Sync Catagories for Address Book on Mac

So I finally switched to BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac from The Missing Sync but, I noticed that I am no longer able to sync my Address Book Catagories with the contacts on my device. The Contacts sync fine but, their catagories do not. They are still in seperate groups on my Mac but just on the device. I also sync my device with a Windows PC and that's how I noticed that the catagories didn't exist anymore. Does anyone have an idea for how or when this might be fixed? Thanks.

  • Contacts (on Touch) won't sync to my Address Book (on Mac)

Should changes made to "Contacts" on my Touch transfer over to "Address Book" on my Mac when I sync? I noticed today that changes I've made on the Mac ARE moving to the Touch, but not vice versa.

When you plug the iPod in go to the Info tab in iPod preferences. Go all the way to the bottom and there are options to sync contact information the next time you sync. Check that and sync again.

  • How do I change Syncing settings for Address Book, iCal, etc?

I remember when I setup my operating system, it asked what percent of changes
to Address Book, iCal, etc. I wanted to set between my computers, before I was notified. I think the default was 5%. But I'd like to change that setting. Does anyone know where I can find that?
    Thanks,

    Barney-15E,
    Thanks that's it.

  • Sync iPhone to Address Book

I messed up and lost all my contacts from my Address Book. I have all my contacts on my iPhone and want to sync them back to Address Book. Can this be done?
This is my only copy so if I mess this up....

Out of curiosity, in what way did you mess up that caused you to lose all your Mac's Address Book contacts?
The iPhone's sync function for Address Book contacts is bidirectional so this should work but there is always a chance something can go wrong with the sync process which is why maintaining a backup of such data is important.
You need to have a least one contact available in your Mac's Address Book so if one is not currently available and your Mac's Address Book is completely empty, you need to enter at least one contract before syncing.

  • Can't sync address book with .Mac

Hi. I'm posting a question for the first time. I am currently a trial user of .Mac. I was seriously considering becoming a full member until I ran into problems syncing my contacts. My question is very simple. Is .Mac worth the effort? I've wasted many hours so far (intermediate level user) trying to get the addresses to sync and nothing works. I've also seen that many people seem to be in the same boat. What's the consensus out there? Do the other perks (iDisk, for example) make up for Address Book setbacks and headaches?

    Torero,
I have found it invaluable, but then, I'm using the iDisk feature as a holding place for client files. For instance, I have a client who lives outside of town in the "country" and has only a dial-up connection to the internet. For her convenience, I put files there for her to retrieve at night, so she can go to bed while they download! Or, a client needs to have a printer receive files and can give them my .mac address to retrieve the files. This is most useful when the client isn't too web-savvy, as this way the printer gets all of the right files. Or my newsletter clients post photos there for me to get so it takes them less time to upload them that way...
I've not tried to sync to my .mac account but probably will soon, though, and I, too, read these lists first!
Good luck, but in short, I've found my subscription to .mac to have been very worthwhile for my purposes.

  • Sync iCal and Address Book for free (using Google)

This works like a charm. It is really two-way sync, using google as an intermediary.
For Address Book: import your contacts from Address Book to Google Contacts, put them on My contacts list, set sync to Google on Address Book preferences, then set Google as your primary account on your phone's contacts app. Now, any new contacts or changes you make, on the phone or on the computer will sync. You can find more info here.
For iCal: enter your google info under accounts in iCal preferences, set up google as your primary calender on your phone. In iCal you will have to enter events under the google tab for them to be synced to google calendar and then to your phone. And of course, whatever entries or changes done here or there will sync. More info here.
What's nice about this is that you never have to go to google for anything, it's just the middle guy working in the background, invisible.
Could this really be "the missing sync"?

I don't know if you can do this with the Centro. I should have mention that I was talking about webOS (Pre and Pixi). To sync with webOS you need Mac OS 10.5 or later for iCal, and 10.6 for Address Book.

  • How to sync Notes, iCal & Address Book between iPod & Mac?

    Hi, there:
Could someone please be so kind to teach me how to sync Notes, iCal & Address Book between my iPod Touch (with iOS6) & Mac (with OS X10.6.8)?
What file format would it be in when Notes is synced from my iPod Touch into Mac, if possible?
How may I drag photos in my regular photos files (not using iPhoto) from my Mac into iPod Touch?
And........HAPPY NEW YEAR of 2014 to Everyone!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?

  • ICloud not syncing with Address Book on Mac

I've updated my Address Book and now it won't sync to iCloud, which means my contacts are no longer on my iphone either. Why won't iCloud sync with the address book on my computer?

Wanted to post an update for those of you who use Entourage for contacts, have iCloud, and like to sync with your iPhone.
I have Entourage set to update to the Address Book (Entourage Preferences - Sync Services - Sync to Address Book - Combine Data) and after fixing the original problem noted above, I later decided to have my iphone backed up and synced through iCloud.
Well - iCloud and Entourage don't play nice together - so none of my contacts were updating either direction and I had duplicates in Address Book again.  Apple did not have answers for me when I called, so I spent the day trying to fix it and came up with the following and figured I'd pay it forward and post for anyone else with the same issue.
The only option at this time is to sync your Contacts with iTunes instead.  Even though Entourage used to update wirelessly with MobileMe - it does not work with iCloud due to different CalDav systems.  You can still do iPhone backups and sync your calendars and photos over iCloud (which I am still doing), but Contacts just won't work.
    Steps:
    1. Backup your good list of contacts somewhere (I ensured everything on Entourage was right and did an archive)
    2. To be extra safe, be sure you have a good phone back up too (either over iCloud or iTunes)
    3. Uncheck sync to Address Book in Entourage
    4. Delete everything in Address Book and uncheck sync/account to iCloud
    5. Go into System Preferences - iCloud, and uncheck sync Contacts.  When it asks you if you want to delete what's on your mac - you can say yes - it will not delete anything in Entourage.  By now all your contacts in Address Book, iCloud and on your phone should be gone (it's scary I know)
    6. Go to your phone settings - iCloud and turn off Contacts there too
    7. Entourage - Preferences - Sync Services - turn on syncing with Address Book/Mobile Me (I chose to Combine data assuming this would allow data to travel both directions in the future).  It should populate address book in just a minute or two
    8. Plug your phone into your computer and open iTunes
    9. Check "Sync Contacts" and hit Apply.  I'd suggest syncing it right there with your phone plugged in.
After that, you can either sync each time you plug in and open iTunes, or you can sync over your own wifi network when your phone is plugged in.  It will not sync over any wifi like it used to do with MobileMe - so still far from an optimum solution, but hopefully Apple and/or Entourage will fix this soon.  The only other solution I could think of was to switch to Mail & Contacts since I like to use them both in same place, but I really didn't want to do that (mail isn't that great and I didn't want to take the time to make the switch).
If anyone has anything better to suggest, please let us know!!!

  • Sync is currently unavailable for address book because of wireless sync

I am trying to sync by calendar and address book.
Works for the Calendar but not Address Book.
I get the following Sycn Warning message. Synchronization unavailable for: Address Book because the application(s) is (are) configured for wireless synchronization. Desktop synchronization for the above application(s) will be disabled. click here for information how to disable wireless sync on your device.
Followed instructions to the letter numerous times and it doesn't work.
    HELP!

Are you connected to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server? If so you can delete one service book on your device, and this will allow you to sync your device through the wire.
To do this go to: Option> Advanced Options> Service Book. In here look for the Desktop  [SYNC] service book. Press the menu key and choose delete.
Now you should be able to sync your device with Outlook. Once the sync is done go back to: Option> Advanced Options> Service Book. Press the menu key and choose undelete.
    Hope this helps.

  • Syncing Address Book on Mac and Address Book on .Mac

As I sit here my computer is syncing away between the address book on my iMac and the address book / contacts on my .Mac and it will keep whirring away to no avail, because no matter what I do I cannot get the two address books to reflect the same addresses. I have tried and tried. I've made sure to turn on the syncing in the .Mac field in the System Preferences .Mac pane , and also in Address Book, and also in .Mac and it simply will not work.
What ends up happening is that the contacts on .Mac continue to reflect a list that I had weeks ago, and even if I delete all the contacts and then sync to the Address Book on my iMac, it just comes up with the old contacts list again !
So, what is going wrong ? I believe that I am doing all that is right at my end. That means that at the .Mac server end there must be something not working right, I believe. I see that a number of people are having the same problem from the various posts that I have read.
So, come on Apple / .Mac Get it sorted at your end and give us decent syncing. Please !
I'm using Address Book Version 4.0.4 (485.1) All other software is bang up to date. My .Mac membership is all paid up and active.

Not sure why syncing failed but you can do the following: download the free app My Contacts Backup and use it on your phone.  It will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email.  Send the email to yourself and open it on your mac.  Double-click the attachment and your mac should import the contacts into Address Book.

  • Syncing address book on Mac to iphone?

my phone has deleted all contacts and I don't see them on my itunes BUT i Do see them on my mac address book? How to sync?  Much thanks!!

You won't see your contacts in iTunes.  iTunes manages the sync from the Address Book.  Simply select your phone in iTunes, go to the info tab at the top and check sync Address Book.

  • Let's say I sync my address book with .Mac. Now...

...if I add to my address book using an Internet browser on another computer, will my Mac be updated with this new address as well? If not, how do I make it so it is?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you log onto your .Mac account and change data displayed in your address book on .Mac, then—following the next scheduled synchronization event—the change will be reflected on all of the devices included in that event.
What Apple hasn't explained outside of the developer community is that you are not actually synchronizing applications [like iCal or the Address Book] or servers [like .Mac] or devices [like your mobile handset or a Palm organizer] when you initiate a synchronization. What you are really doing is triggering an interaction with one or more of these and the SyncServices engine, which maintains what is termed the 'truth database'—or simply, the 'truth'—to which is pushed, or from which is pulled, the current state of data maintained in fields and records for one or more specific data types. Because of the way this process works, it is not necessary to have all synchronized devices available or attached when a synchronization event occurs.
So you can make a change to your .Mac address book records and, during a subsequent synchronization, exchange the most current data maintained in the truth with the updated information from .Mac, and then, hours later, plug in your iPod, an action which will trigger iTunes to pull the latest data from the truth and write it to the iPod, updating your contact and calendaring records. The same is true for other applications, servers and devices.

  • Is there a download for address book.

I deleted address book from our G3 because it wasn't being used. But would like to get it back because we are getting a .Mac account with a new Imac next month. We want to be able to use Address Book with .Mac on both computers.
    1. I ran spotlight and didn't find it.
    2. I could not find just an Address Book download.
    3. I upgraded to 10.3.9. combined and ran spotlight again. This time I found an application but it did not have the correct icon. It had an application icon and would not open.
    4. I don't want to try and upgrade to Tiger (only 128mb & $$).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Use Pacifist to extract Address Book from the Mac OS X installation disks and install it in /Applications/.
If the version of the system software on your installation disks is earlier than what you're using now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you're using, to bring Address Book back in sync with the rest of the system:

  • Outlook 2011 problem syncing contacts with address book

I am aware that Lion has broken the sync ability of Outlook 2011 with Address Book. Hopefullly this will be fixed at some point.
So my problem is that I have decided to use a workaround to get my Address Book contents into Outlook 2011. I am not concerned with further syncing at this point. I just want to get my addresses into Outlook and hope a better fix is offered at some point.
About the only way I could figure out how to do this was to export my Address Book as vCard. I then imported the vCard file into Gmail and then exported that as a CSV file. It contained 550 addresses. I opened it in Excel and it contained 550 rows. Great so far.
I then Imported into Outlook 2011 and chose import a text file. When the mapping window opened, it showed over 890 files instead of 550 and the fields were not mapped correctly. I could not complete the import because it was so screwed up.
So I'm back to square one and very frustrated. There must be others who have the same issue and maybe have figured out a way to do this. Please help.

  • IPhone not syncing Contacts to Address Book

I noticed that my iPhone (both original iPhone and iPhone 3G) was not syncing contacts with Address Book. I tried to Reset Sync History in iSync, and when I have tried to replace the contacts on iPhone under the Advanced options, I lose all my contacts on the iPhone!
The only way to get some contacts back is restoring from backup, but unfortunately as iTunes performs a backup of the iPhone on sync, these backups also have no contacts! I have an old backup that fortunately has not been overwritten but the contact list is a bit out of date.
Address Book on the Mac seems to be fine and this is backed up.
It would appear that iTunes has somehow lost its "connection" to Address Book, which is why when I chose to replace the Contacts on the iPhone with the information on the computer I lost them all!
iCal still seems to sync fine with Calendar.
Can I re-link Address Book with iTunes?

    Jason L wrote:
    Hey lim_my,
Are contacts syncing with MobileMe or any other applications?
    I don't have MobileMe.
Now you mention it, Address Book did not appear to even update if I updated a contact in Mail.
Can you sync contacts in another User account? to create another user account goto System Preferences> Accounts> click the lock to make changes> click the + button to add another user account.
Yes I can! I only tried to sync Contacts, leaving all other options i.e Calendars Bookmarks Ringtones Music Videos Applications untouched, and now I have some test Contacts on the iPhone.
You can try Resetting the SyncServices folder, Just follow the steps in this article to stop the service and then delete the SyncServices folder in your user library.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
I had tried this before, within iSync, which did not work. I then tried the command in Terminal as per the above link, then went and deleted the /user/Library/ Sync Services folder. Still no joy.
So it looks as though I have a broken Address Book rather than iTunes. Should I post this in the OS X Leopard section of Discussions?
