  • Windows 8.1 Pro Sync Center Has Vanished

A few weeks ago I somehow inadvertently turned on a sync setting for a NAS folder that came across onto my small SSD on my Windows 8.1 Machine.
I remember that I was able to turn it off but noticed my SSD in use size was being reported as around +25GB more than what I actually could see on the drive. Having used third party software I could see a offline copy of the folder in question sitting
    on my C drive.
I cannot locate either Sync Center or Manage Offline Files on my Windows 8.1 Pro machine now, I have no idea why as I can see it on another Windows 8.1 Pro system I have.
I have in the meantime using advise on these forums to delete the CSC folder.
Anyone help me locate or reinstall sync center??

If the offline setting is enabled, even you delete the CSC folder, it will be recreated.
Please follow this suggestion to disable offline files:

  • Sync Center Issue in Windows 8.1

I purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop Model SVT11125CNS with Windows 8 64 Bit Single User Pre-installed. Subsequently, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 with Freee Upgrade. Te con figuration of my Laptop is: Processor-Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.7 GHz; RAM-4 GB
(3.88 GB Usable), System Type-64-bit operating system x64-based processor.
I have an office Network System and the file server OS is Server 2003. My Network s WORKGROUP Based. I log on to my Office Network through Wireless.
Earlier, I had been using another lap top with Windows 7 OS in th same networking environment. I was able to use the Sync Centre to create Sync partnership with the files and folders in the server for offline
    working.
Now, even though I am able to see the Sync Center, I am unable to create any Sync partnership with my Server with Server 2003 OS and I am unable to make the files and folders in the server available for Offline
    working.
    Please provide me a solution.

    Hi Krishnakumar R Sennar,
We wonder which version of Windows 8.1 you are running.
To the best of my knowledge, Sync Center does require Windows Client to be at the Professional level edition or higher in Windows 7 and Vista.
Unfortunately we have no standard edition license for test due to limitation of our test environment. However, your issue is exactly same with Windows 7 Home Premium so I am supposing it would be root cause if you are running Windows 8.1 standard edition.
If you are running Windows 8.1 standard, we suggest you do some simple test to check if it works with share folder on another computer before you purchasing the Windows 8.1 Pro Pack.
If it works on on other share folder or you are running Windows 8.1 PRO, please let me know and we will provide further support.

  • Fix sync center's errors/conflicts through server

    Hi all,
Our system relies on folder redirection and roaming profile.
I can see some type of errors/conflicts on sync center, such as an error states "cannot access the file because it's being used by another process", a conflict asking delete/keep one/keep both file(s).
The person used to work before me said, he checks every single end user's computer every day for checking those errors/conflicts and resolving.
I wonder is there any place that I can check the status of syncing, and solve it through server instead of checking every computer physically.
Our server is 2012 R2, user computers are win7 or 8.1 pro.
Thank you very much for your answer in advance.

    Hi JJay1231,
You can view sync errors on the Sync Results screen in Sync Center. Once you understand what is causing the sync error, you can try to fix it. A sync error usually occurs when
there is a problem with the device, computer, or folder you are trying to sync with, such as a device that is not plugged in or turned on when you try to sync with it. Errors usually block sync from completing. If you have a sync error that you don't fix,
you will probably end up with files that are not in sync, so it's a good idea to try to fix sync errors when they occur.

  • Windows Offline Files / Sync Center - 99GB?? bug?

Currently have a laptop connected to a domain where the user's My Documents folder is set up in Sync Center... while the laptop is on the network everything is fine and dandy, however once the user disconnects a good portion of the files and folder show
a gray X indicating that they haven't sync'd over a local copy. When going into the 'Disk usage' tab for Sync Center, everything shows as 99GB used, 99GB available and the drive size is 999GB. If I do a manual sync I see that it fails due to not enough offline
cache space. Attempts to change it with the 'Change size' button have failed as nothing shows up when I click on that button. Free disk space shows up as roughly 24GB free and Windows Scan Disk reveals nothing wrong with the drive. Help!

Did this issue occur before ? Did the machines in the domain share the same issue with you?

  • Sync center issue in Windows 7: sync conflict zeroing out remote file

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 RTM Prof Eng x64 on my laptop, and I'm making available offline a folder on a remote share with Offline files. The remote share is hosted on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Ent Eng x86 server. The server is a domain controller, but the laptop is not joined to the domain. The remote folder is like 320 MB, mainly images, doc, pdf and xls files.
Synching is usually working, but sometimes I observe the following: I modify a file on my machine, and later Sync center reports a sync conflict, although nobody else modified the remote file. When I check the remote file, it is full with NULLS, e.g. if it is a doc file, it opens as a lot of empty pages.
I used the same setup with Windows Vista without problems, it just started to occur when I switched to Win 7.
I could not reproduce the issue, but the problem could be related to the network setting:
    - it is something like: laptop ---|public network|--- server ---|private network|
    - I usually access the server from the laptop on a public network with just its netbios name, i.e. \\server. But from this network it is also accessible from \\server.domain.com and \\server-public-ip The small sync icon appears near the folder name only when I view it as \\server, and not in the other two cases.
    - when I connect to with WLAN, then the laptop is connected to the private network. Here the server is accessible via \\server-private-ip or \\server.domain2.local. When I open \\server only the offline folder is visible (the server is also a firewall, which blocks SMB going out to the public network).
    - the clocks of the two machines are not synchronized, but the difference is below 10 seconds
I could understand a sync conflict or not detecting that the local and remote file are the same, but the zeroing out the remote file part is quite mysterious. Have anyone seen something like that?
    Thanks for the help,
    Zoltan

    Hi,
Did you find a solution to this issue? We are experiencing the same.
We have had users reporting that they have created a word doc whilst on the network. Saved it, then logged off and taken their laptops home. Worked on the file for a few hours, with several saves, closes and reedits. Then finally saved the file, logged off.
When returning to work and logging in whilst connected to the network the file then becomes 0KB. The file appears to be unrecoverable as backups are only of the server version. There is no previous versions recorded and the last edited is the data of the
original blank file. It would appear that the server version (Older) is overwriting the Local cached version (Newer).
This is obviously causing some serious issues for staff who have lost hours of work done at home. Has anyone else experienced this.
Servers run Windows 2008 R2, Clients Windows 7 Professional. Offline Files setup by Group Policy.

    Fraser

  • Cannot Remove Offline Files from Sync Center

I believe I have searched the history of Sync Center issues enough that this is an issue that has not yet been addressed.  If so, please point me to the proper article.  Thanks!
I was making folders available for offline use in my Win 7 Ultimate edition.  We are in the process of moving to NAS servers (with new network names) and I know syncing with NAS servers is not working correctly right now.
So I have unchecked all the folders to make then unavailable for offline.  I have also gone to "Manage Offline Files" and tried deleting all offline files for the network drive.  However, there is one Network Drive that I cannot get to delete no matter what I try.  I have tried Deleting Offline Copy for the drive (which it says is successful), but the network drive and a folder hierarchy remain when I view Offline Files.  Also, when I view this folder path in Windows Explorer, it gives a status of "Offline Availability: Available".  I find this odd since the Make Available Offline box is not set for any of the files or folders in this path.  Also, this message seems odd to me since the only valid messages I have found for this status are "Always Available" or "Not Available".
I have also tried making all of these files and folders available offline again and removed and deleted, but I still have the same problem.  I have also tried the registry key to reset the cache for offline files and that did not work either.
Please help me get rid of this because it is driving me nuts!
    Thanks.

OMG!!!!THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!You have no idea how long I've been trying to get rid of those files!I've had those files for about a year or longer & no one could tell me how to
get rid of 'em,& plus I know a lot about computers(:/ I'm somewhat of a hacker too,you could say)so you(not you specifically, but people who are not knowledge based with computers)can only imagine how
FRUSTRATING it is to not no the answer!I mean I had just short of
50GB eating up space/memory on my computer, just because the other computer was renamed, and placed under a new server & wireless network;so I couldn't re-sync them under the same partnership because the associated computer wasn't/couldn't
be found, even though I had changed the computer name back & tweaked both the server & wireless network to match the original proportions or requirements for the partnership!I mean I was even thinking of removing my hard drive & mounting to another
computers hard drive(proverbially the partnered computer)to get deep within the system files without causing any structural damage to the motherboard or operating system(kinda like the time I accidentally compressed the boot the boot drive!:'(
That was not fun,it took me about a week to repair that thing!)by some sort of computer failure! So I made this new Windows Live account(I forgot my other one)just to say thank you! This really helped!:)

  • Cannot use Offline Files with DFS share: "Access denied" error for DfsrPrivate in Sync Center

    Hello,
I have an infrastructure that uses DFS to move files to different sites and we are using a GPO to define Offline Files for users at those sites. Whenever we try to initiate a manual sync, an error stating "Access
denied" is generated for all DfsrPrivate directories and the Sync Center reports it as a failed sync. We have tried giving Domain Users, Everyone, and invidiual accounts Write, Modify and even Full Control permissions to the DfsrPrivate directories and
as it seems, only users with administrative access and allowed to sync properly. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?
    -Girard

    Hi,
I cannot help test on this moment but we should not create offline files on DfsrPrivate folders which will cause issue. Try to exclude those folders as Offline Files and it should work in Sync Center.

  • Sync.Center Not Working

Just got off the phone with Apple Care. The solution they came up with involved locating a file " libxml2.dll. Look for it in the "computer> windows folder/system folder/ sysmwow64 folder." Check in all three folders. When you find it move it to the desktop.
Restart the computer. Now try Itunes and sync up phone. Give it time. It took about 20-30 minutes for the phone to be found in Itunes, and for it to back up.
But Ladies and Gentleman, My Phone is Back!!!!!

It is now working just fine.

  • How do I prevent offline files from syncing accross WAN

I have multiple sites connected via smaller WAN links (1.5 meg).  I am trying to prevent any Offline Folder Syncing across the WAN.
When users travel to other sites there is an issue where their laptop wants to sync their MyDocs folder across the WAN.  Since the user has several Gig of Data at the remote site this could take all day and can consumes all of our bandwidth between
the sites.  This doesn't happen unless the users have their MyDocs folder set to 'make available for Offline Use'.
The users MyDocs folder is automatically redirected to a network file server at the users main location.
I have tried setting the Network Transparency to 64 ms (64) but that doesn't seem to help.  Normal latency between sites (based off of a ping) is 75-100 ms (unless under heavy load).
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?  I tried looking at the below technote but I couldn't seem to get a setting that made this issue go away.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff633429(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_EnablingTransparentCaching
Any help you can offer will greatly be appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
The article you looking at is not for preventing the offline file sync. So what's your requirement? If you don't want the offline file sync, just disable the it in the sync center:
    1. Open the Control Panel, click on the Sync Center icon.
    2. In the left pane, click on the Manage offline files link.
    3. Click on the Disable offline files button.
    4. Click on OK and restart the computer(see screenshot below).
If you want to sync the offline file, the guide you refer is the optimal solution for you. Since your file is too big. However, I suggest you sync it completely if you really need it when slow network or disconnection from the Server. It won't copy
the whole file every time. It just sync the new version of the file when it checked the file has be changed.

  • Windows 7 Sync - Slow

    Good Morning,
We have Windows Sync setup on some staff laptops, but when the laptop is syncing it makes it so slow - virtually unusable.
If we turn sync off it is fine.
I am thinking about just installing Direct Access, but this obviously only any good if the user has an internet connection.
Any thoughts how we can stop Windows 7 sync center slowing pcs right down.
It used to be fine in XP when it just done a sync at log off!!!!!

How much data did you transfer? What is the result if we disable synchronization on some files, and only sync some small files?
make sure the network speed is fine and update the driver for the network adapter.

  • How can I determine what machines have Offline Sync running and are using it

    Hi everyone,
I am working on a project where a Windows feature was rolled out but we do not know to whom exactly?
I need to run a script that will tell me for all the machines/PCs in our estates which ones are actually using the Offline Files/Sync Center in Windows 7.
Is there a way to do this via Reporting? I'm actually using SCCM 2012 SP1 but there was no option for this in the drop-down.
If anyone has any samples or scripts - that I could utilise then I would appreciate this.
    Thanks

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
A Quick Bing search revealed several scripts that will allow you to determine offline data. I would start with one of those then, write the results to WMI. Once that is done CM12 can inventory the results and you can then create a report in this data.

  • Offline Files (Background) Sync makes File Explorer and other programs responding slow

    Hi TechNet,
I have a problem with Offline Files and
    especially with VPN users.
    For VPN users, the slow-link
policy is activated with a background
sync interval of one hour. But, when Offline Files is syncing, their File Explorer is hanging (not responding) by creating new files/folders, deleting files/folder, or rename files/folders. This happens only in their (redirected)UserData
folder or with other DFS shares which are cached locally. In other programs (Outlook or Office 2010) when they save data in the UserData folder exactly the same things happens (not responding).
This problem occurs in both the
internal network and via VPN, so bandwidth is
not the problem. When the sync is finished, everything is working fine again.
    I've tested:
    - Offline mode with scheduled background sync: problem occurs
    - Online mode with manual sync: problem occurs
    - Rebuild offline cache database: no effect
    - Tested with fresh Windows 8(.1) installations and user profiles: problem occurs
    - Monitoring SMB traffic with WireShark: no result
    - Montoring Windows 8(.1) clients with procmon: no result
    - Tested with full DFS paths: problem occurs
    - Disable IPv6: problem occurs
    - Disable Windows Search: problem occurs
    - Browsing in the Offline Files folder (Sync Center -> Manage Offline Files -> View Offline Files) is very slow (with +- 200 files). This occurs also when Offline Files is not syncing.
Does anyone have an idea how I can solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Bas

      Hello Steven,
First, sorry for the late response, I have tested a few things for you:
Offline mode with background sync over a VPN connection: During scheduled sync File Explorer hangs. When bypass the cache by using a UNC path (State: Online) there is also a delay, but this is caused by bandwidth.
Online Mode with Manual Sync over a LAN connection: During sync File Explorer hangs in (redirected)UserData Folders (They are always available offline, maybe this is a problem?). With UNC paths, there is no delay…
The first folder/file is created slowly, but the second is fast.
    It's like csc
    still
    must initialize
    the cache…or something…
    I m  I made some
print screens, but I can not upload them because my account is not verified.......

  • USB Sync stopping Windows 7 upgrade

When I purchased my Compaq CQ5110F (Vista) it was just immediately before Windows 7 came out but my previous one crashed so I couldn't wait and was given a Windows 7 upgrade package. As Vista suited me and I've been working with it until now ok but decided to take the plunge and upgrade. I've done all of the updates, backups, whatever, and went to install just now and it's telling me that the HP USB Sync is stopping the upgrade, although when I printed out the whole 12 pages of the compatability report, that wasn't specifically mentioned. I had previously had an HP Ipaq which was syncd to the computer but I uninstalled it yesterday as I no longer use it. When I look in the Sync Center there is nothing in there and I can't find anything that just says USB Sync - so now I'm stuck with the upgrade, it won't go further and I don't know what to do - other than abandon the upgrade, can anyone help?  I'm off work at the moment so it seemed the ideal time to do this ...   Many thanks.

I've finally managed it and everything seems to be working well without removing any further things, and re-installing -with the exception of Quickbooks 2010.  I did get it to open but there was a constant box saying Windows was trying to configure QB but was failing.  I'm closing it down and see if it does the same thing tomorrow but am I correct in assuming I'll need to uninstall it - that always makes me nervous.
A further question nothing to do with tech things - when I first registered it said I was a guest, now it says I'm a student, I didn't put that in and don't see where I can change it in the profile??
