Sync conflict with contacts

Which do I choose (address book or iPhone contacts) when I have a sync conflict with my contacts after downloading new iPhone OS?

On the same page it also says Facebook integration is coming this fall. We are all waiting.

  • 'Sync conflicts' with Outlook after upgrading to iTunes 7.4

Since upgrading to iTunes 7.4 2 days ago I now receive a 'sync conflict' error with entries on Outlook calendar when syncing the iPhone. It allows me to view each conflict but I cannot see any differences between the entries that are apparently conflicting.
I can continue and all seems fine, but it happens every time I sync.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks
    Rixta

It is possible to get iTunes 7.4 working with Outlook 2002, in spite of Apple saying that they don't support it. I posted it as Solution to Syncing with Outlook XP (Outlook 2002.)
Just save the following file from your current installation of iTunes 7.3 (you can copy and paste it to your Windows desktop):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Clients\com.apple.Outlook\Contents\Windows\
    com.apple.Outlook
Then be sure you have a current backup of your Outlook.pst file.
Upgrade to iTunes 7.4.3.1, and connect the iPhone. Open the Info tab in iTunes, and check the boxes and use the pull down menus to select Outlook for contacts, calendar and mail. You should then have no problem syncing to the iPhone.
Too bad about the loss of the music you purchased, I would suggest you call Apple and have them give you a credit, as they created the loss through their either accidental or intentional modification of iTunes (actually Apple Mobile Device Support.)

  • Sync difficulties with contacts

I have been having a bit of a confusing time with my contacts.
    * I use a Pearl 9105 running OS6.0 bundle 1479 (v6.0 .0.380, Platform 6.6.0.85) *
To begin with I am a relatively new to the BB interface, so I guess some troubles with adjustment are inevitable, but I'm having difficulty understanding how the contact syncing works.
When I was setting up the phone I was prompted to copy across the contacts that had been stored in the sim card from my old phone. This I did, but the mapping appears to have been slightly different to that used in BlackBerry devices, and consequently many of the names are abbreviated or have strange punctuation marks added to them, such as "-- Texti;/H". A lot of the contacts were also missing after this initial import and it was clear I needed another solution otherwise I'd be manually reentering all my contacts one-by-one. Not an option.
For a while I had no idea how I was going to do this. I had to get my contacts from my old phone, a Sony Ericsson, across to my BlackBerry. Eventually I figured out a way using a third-party app called MyPhone Explorer.
The process was a little bit involved but went as follows: First I synced up my old phone to MyPhone Explorer and exported my contacts to an Excel file. This I was able to open in Excel and save in *.csv format.
Note: There is an option in Gmail to import *.csv files into the Gmail contacts, which I tried, but the mapping was wrong and no names showed up.
So, from there instead I imported the contacts .csv file into Microsoft Outlook using the import csv file option. Using this method there are options that enable you to adjust the mapping during the import. In laymen terms, this means the names in the .csv file get connected to the name field in Outlook's contacts, the work phone number to the work phone field, etc etc.
Once the mapping is set up correctly, you can import the contacts into Outlook and they should make sense.
Outlook is also able to export a (properly mapped) *.csv file. Do this, and then import the second .csv file into your Gmail contacts. The fields should be mapped correctly and everything should look right.
I know that BlackBerry handhelds are able to sync their contacts with contacts in Gmail accounts (among others). I have three email accounts linked to my BB: One is primarily for business, one is my personal email and the other is an old account that I rarely use. Of the three, the contacts of the first two are supposed to be synced but this is where things are getting me confused.
The personal email account now contains basically all of my contacts -- 890 in all, but eventhough it's supposed to be synced to my BlackBerry, the BB contacts folder only shows around 400 contacts in it. This was the number I had during the initial import when I first connected the account, which was before I had imported my phone contacts via Outlook using the method mentioned above.
So, basically, I'm wondering why these contacts aren't all showing up now. It seems that the sync function on my BB has either stopped working, or happens only once in a (long) while. Is there any information on this? I have had a look around but can't see an answer posted elsewhere.
Another question is why are there different sync options available for the contacts from accounts I have connected?
(The account I use for work has a "wireless synchronization option", but this account only has one or two contacts I need, and is a shared, so I can't use it for all my personal contacts.)
Meanwhile, my personal account, which contains all my contacts and which I want to re-sync, does not seem to have the wireless synchronization option and I wish it did. In the contact list properties field all that is shown is the number of contacts from this email account (483) -- no other options available it seems.
My next question concerns merging contacts. OK, so have imported multiple contacts folders / address books from different email accounts and my sim card into my BlackBerry, some of which are out of date. A useful feature available in Gmail allows users to "merge" two separately listed contacts into one, for example where two records have been created for one person using two email addresses or two phone numbers. So, if I have merged a bunch of the contacts I imported into Gmail earlier and now I wish to re-sync this with my phone, what happens? Does the BB get rid of the redundant entries that have been amalgamated into single listings? (something tells me no, but it's worth asking).
Does it replace the BB entries with the Gmail entries? And does it delete entries on the BB that are not found in the Gmail account? Which account acts as the guide and which follows?
If I have made adjustments to my contacts in the BB and then sync this to the Gmail contacts, do these changes a;sp affect my Gmail contacts?
    Am I missing something?
    Fergus

    Go to Solution.

you are syncing with your gmail contacts.
so there is no reason for it to back up or restore on the blackberry.
to disable gmail sync go into contacts icon, menu click to get options, select your gmail account under contact lists and turn off wireless sync. then your contacts will back up and restore in the DM

  • Calendar Sync Conflicts with Blackberry Desktop v7.1

Since upgrading to Desktop v7.1 I have been receiving "silly" messages for conflicts that I need to resolve. The reason I say there are "silly" is that it seems the conflict notification  is looking only at the subject/description. When  have more than one item of the same name it is reported as a conflict even though the  times are different and do no overlap and the contained notes are definitely not identical.
It would be great to have better intelligence than this. If only the subject line is the same and everything else  is different then they are two different entries! )
** Also -  the idea behind the new sync conflict format is great but the display is ridiculously compressed. It should be expanded (or be expandable) to an adequate size to view the conflict info. **
Am I missing a setting or something for conlfict resolution?
    Thanks!!

    BTW.
Software is latest version, I think...

  • Sync issues with Contacts for BB Mac Desktop

Since the BB Uprade Install for the Bold I have not been able to properly sync my device with the Mac.  New contacts and edits don't syc at all and notes on any contacts don't update or synce.
Very frusting but I am sure there is a fix.  PLEASE ADVISE!!!
    Thanks.

I have a Pearl 3G and have had similar problems each time there is an update/upgrade. The one I downloaded and installed this week took a long time, but then the first synchronization would not stop. I eventually had to force it to stop, generating errors. I've had this before.
What I've done previously is cumbersome.
I start with turning off automatic sync.
I turn off sync for most items (contacts, tasks, etc.) and leave only calendars.
I generally have to over-write all the calendar entries on the device or the sync appears to go on forever (hours, even overnight).
I generally start with over-writing only future events, then check the box to include some new and old, increase the new and old range, then eventually sync everything in the calendar. --- Each step requires an additional manual sync.
I then start to sync Contacts, Notes, etc.
BUT ... and this is the very frustrating part ... I have to address up to hundreds of conflicts. This is the part that makes no sense.
I'd like some help and answers on this topic too.

  • Syncing iCloud with contacts and calendar in MS Outlook 2007, will get message that "the set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened."

I install the iCloud Control Panel and information is uploaded from my Outlook Contact folder to iCloud.  ICloud folders are created and syncing process between my iPhone, iCloud, and Outlook works for a while (day or 2).  Then, when I open Outlook after a day of 2, I get the above message that "The set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened."  The only resolve that I have found is to uninstall the iCloud Control Panel, the reboot my Windows computer, then reinstall the iCloud Control Panel and resync contacts and calendar to icloud.  This is getting to be very cumbersome to use this feature.  What is the cause of the problem that it keeps on disconnecting to iCloud?

I have also fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling iCloud, but as you have experienced, the problem recurs without reason.  Apple would/could not help as they say that the problem is with Microsoft's Outlook and that I should talk to them.  Microsoft's techies won't help without me paying some £200 as I have a Professional - a student's - version of Office 2007.  This is scandalous.  It is obvious, from the many who have reported the same problem n this forum, that Microsoft should look into this urgently and create a fix

  • HT1386 Windows 8 Syncing Problem with Contacts and Calendars Office 2007 and iphone 4

I have a new Dell Inspiron 17R and just did a sync with my iphone 4.  It wiped out my contact  and calendar listing.  I have selected the contacts and calenders sync option.  It is almost like the sync process can not fine the pst file on this new Windows 8 computer.

For this particular issue, as suggested by yellowadept, go the the info tab at under the advanced section, choose replace contact information on iphone. This will over write any contact information on the iphone with what you have in address book on the computer.
However, if you are interested in what part of the 111 contacts will be changed, you could open address book first. Then highlight all your contacts and click on file>export>as vcard. Then you could back up all your contacts to your desktop. After you export all your contacts then you could sync the iphone and allow the changes to see what changes were made. If the iphone actually changed anything, then you could delete all your contacts in address book, then import the vcards back in.
Also, keeping a back-up of your contacts and calendars is a pretty good idea.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sync Calendar with Contacts?

Is this possible, if so, how?
I have many birthdays in contacts that I would like to have in calendar, to set reminders.Doing them all manually is a pain.

    I don't think there is a built-in way.
Depending on what phone you have, this program might help:

I believe it is also in Ovi Store.

  • Syncing Lotus Notes Contacts & Calendar to iPad2

I've now got my Lotus Notes email account set up on my iPad, and the push email now works great with Lotus Notes Traveler server at work.
I'd now like to take it a step further and sync my Lotus Notes contacts and calendar entries to my iPad, but have a couple of questions before syncing them over:
    1.  I get the impression that if I do this, I'll lose my personal contacts and calendar entries on my iPad. Is this true, or would the Notes entries be added to my current contacts/calendar entries? I don't want to lose my personal data, but would love it if Notes Traveler information would be ADDED to my personal contacts/calendar.
    2.  My contacts and calendars on my iPad are synced via MobileMe to my Mac and iPhone. Would the MobileMe syncing conflict with Notes Traveler syncing?
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. (And thanks again for the help with getting the push Notes email functioning properly!)

Hmmmmm....over 60 views but no suggestions?
Is no one syncing calendar/contact information with multiple sources (In my question, MobileMe and Lotus Notes thru Exchange Server)?

  • How do I merge contacts rather than replace them during sync conflicts?

I just got my iPhone 4 a few days ago, and the Verizon sales associate transferred the contacts from my previous phone.
Now, when attempting to sync via iTunes 10.4 (80), I'm given only three options after a sync conflict notification regarding contacts synchronizing: Sync Now, Sync Later, Review changes (or something like that): Rather than merge pre-existing Address Book contacts, it wants to override them, regardless of whatever information I already have in the Address Book, assigning the iPhone info priority (so any Address Book entries would just be overwritten).
Why is it doing this? It doesn't strike me as well-designed at all, especially since merging contacts seems a fairly common thing these days. An apparent work-around would be manually editing the ~30 contacts in Address Book, and then deleting each off my iPhone, but surely there's a better and faster way? Please help!
    Thanks for reading.

    Try linking cards:
Open any contact you want to merge, tap on Edit and look at the bottom part of it.  You'll find 'Link Cards' and from there you may select the contact you want to link with the one you're looking at. So if you have:
    Contact 1: John A (job)
Contact 2:  Business Name (who is also John A but you saved it as a different contact)
Contact 3: Something else that's also John A
You can link all three cards into one.  If you choose to, you may unlink them at any time, just tap Edit and then the red circle. Your contacts won't be deleted, but they won't appear under the same ID anymore.

  • HT1692 Have recently installed itunes and outlook on a new computer.  Have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook tho only use contacts and calendar in relation to one of these. Cannot sync itunes with the correct contacts and calendars, Help!

My new computer is 64-bit running Windows 7 pro, SP1 and Microsoft Office 2010 Pro Plus 32-bit
My phone is a 4S runing iOS 6.1.3
Very frustrated now that I have recently installed itunes and outlook on this new computer.  Everything worked perfectly ok on my laptop which was also 64-bit Windows 7 and running 32-bit Microsoft Office 2010 Pro.  I have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook tho only use contacts and calendar in relation to one of these. Cannot sync itunes with the correct contacts and calendars, when I sync the calendar and contacts are empty.  Not sure if there is any way to point itunes to particular address books and calendars.
I have installed and uninstalled itunes 3 times and thank goodness have a backup
    Can anyone help please?
    thanks in anticipation

I had my home computer set up to sync to work's Exchange server. It worked well, but I didn't like seeing work email messages and other programs trying to sync with my default Outlook folder, which was then the Exchange (& work related) .ost file. I know there are various ways to manage those problems using filters, view, subfolders, etc., but it was a hassle for me. I think it could work well for many other folks.
For now, I have published my work calendar and subscribed to that calendar on my home computer. So I have view only access to my calendar on my home computer (and I can add/edit calendar items on my iPad (or Outlook Web Access) when away from work). This is not quite what I wanted, but it may work.
It almost makes me long for the days when I used my Windows Mobile Treo to sync back and forth between exchange at work and outlook at home (but had many sync conflicts as a result).

  • How do I sync my iPhone contacts with the Mac address book

I just bought a Macbook Pro and want to sync my iPhone contacts.  How do I do this?

Use the usb cable that comes with your iPhone to connect it to your Mac. Read the directions that came with the iPhone. Post in the iPhone forums where the iPhone gurus are. Google... Look to the right of your post in the "More Like This" column...
