Sync contants with categories?

how do you get your contacts to be in certain categories in the iphone. all the categories show up in my phone from entourage but there are no contacts in the categories... does anyone know how to solve this?

You will need to change the hotsync conduit to "do nothing" for the conduits you do not want to sync to Outlook.
Click on the hotsync manager icon and select settings-applications-highlight the application conduit and then click on configure. In the next dialog box, select "do nothing" and put a check in the "set as default" box. This will disable the conduit from sync'ing.
FYI, the application conduit should state Outlook in parentheses.

Two laptops one with XP sp3 with office/outlook 2003 and the other vista 64bit with office/outlook 2007
The sync of both the Address book and Tasks are great as I can use the catergories "map field" in both of these options.
The device and the application "outlook 2007/2003" both have the catergories field.
The problem is I am unable to sync The Calendar with categories map fields.
The device side of the map field does'nt have the catergories option but the application side "outlook 2007/2003" does.
From the main menu on the BB Desktop manager / Synchronization / Synchronization tab / Advanced Tab / Calendar / Map Fields Tab
The left side of the screen is the Device listing and the right side is Microsoft outlook.
Is their a way I can add this field to the map fields option for the device?

Sync nano with Address Book but the categories are gone!!??

I have more than 200 contacts in my Address Book, but when I finished syncing it with my ipod nano, the categories are missing. I have to search the entire list to get to a contact I want. Can anyone tell me if that is normal?? Is there anything I can do about it?

Yes, it's normal. The iPod address book does not support sorting by categories.

How do I stop Google from attempting to sync contacts with my iMac?

Hey folks, i'm new to Mac and keep getting this annoying sync notice that if I allow Google Contants to sync it will change pretty much all my contacts. First off, I'm not really sure what contacts it's trying to sync with. Is it trying to sync with my iCloud contacts? i don't think i have any contact info saved on my hard disk. Second, i have searched the discussion threads about this topic and see posts saying i need to go to Address Book > Preferences > and uncheck Google Sync....but the only Address Book i am aware of is the app labeled "Contacts" which holds everything from my iCloud account. Is Address Book a separate app/database?

I don't know if this helps much, but Address Book was basically the same application in a previous version of the Mac OS. Folks still seem to use the terms interchangably though. Similarly, Calendar used to be "iCal."
I believe syncing contacts with Google or iCloud is an either/or proposition - you can't do both. When you sync with either, a copy is saved to your Mac for faster access (like a web browser's cache). I believe there's still an option to save contacts exclusively to your Mac (HD), but I don't think it's either preferred or occurs by default if you have an account such as Gmail/google or iCloud already set up.
I've never played with preferences in Contacts (Address Book), but I do have both google and iCloud accounts associated with my Mac. Under System Preferences:Mail, Contacts & Calendars, you can specify what accounts do on your Mac. If you have multiple accounts set up, a list will appear on the left side. As you select each one, a list of check boxes appear to the right for each service you want to associate with that account. For example, I have an iCloud account for mail, calendars, contacts, and Safari (among others). I have a Gmail account for mail, although it gives me the option of using this account for calendars, etc. For Gmail, the only item I have checked is mail. It's never asked me if I wanted to sync my addresses with Google.
I hope this helps... at least a little. If nothing else, I hope I've solved the "Address Book" mystery ;-)

Can't sync contact with my MBP

My MBP is osx 10.6.8 and iPhone4 5.1.1
Last week my iphone can't sync contacts with MBP, it sync with my gmail contacts!
I try to reset my iphone and sync again, but it can't work.
Only contacts have problem, calender is work fine.
Anyone know how to fix this?

i got oultook notes to sync with my iphone 5 thru itunes. iphone imports the notes but disregards the categories, so the notes come out sorted by date created; however, you could do a search.

I have now changed from a Blackberry Q10 to an iPhone 5s and all my contacts have synced across via outlook exchange. But they have not synced into their relevant/groups and none of the contact photos have synced across either.
Apple Care now tell me that this will not happen with the iPhone due to the way that this information is stored on the phone.
Do you, or anyone else there, have any other views on this please?

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

HI, if I did this, then I believe that I cloud would then hold my info which I don't want. Is that the case? The reason is that I'm an old git, therefore used to not giving out info. Would I be right?

Just got a new iphone and am syncing it with itunes, but it will not transfer my new music or voice memos. Help?

I just got a new iphone 3GS and was trying to sync it with my itunes information from my old phone. However, I keep getting multiple error messages and after the sync is complete, I find that everything has transferred except my purchased itunes music and voice memos (I record my class lectures). I am not sure what I can do to fix this. Any ideas?

The error messages are:
-"Attempting to copy to the disk 'My Iphone' failed. An unknown error occured (-69)."
-"The iphone 'My Iphone' cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in itunes library."

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I have an iPhone 4 which is synced with a non apple laptop and wish to sync it with my new iMac. I have backed the phone up with the laptop and am not sure how to sync it with the iMac without loosing any contacts, emails or photos from my phone.

How do I make my iPhone 'sent' mail folder sync exactly with my iMac 'sent' folder?

I've got an email set up through IMAP on my iPhone and on my mac and I've been using it for years but I've realized all of my folders sync exactly with the exception of my "sent" mailbox. For some reason, when I send something on my comp, it doesn't show in the sent folder on my phone? Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be and how I get them to sync like the rest?

Because everything is on the same home network, all are wireless except the mini, I'd rather not do a cloud base setup. It doesn't make sence to upload then download if all are on the same network. Maybe I'm asking how to setup a secure home network.

When i try to back up purchased items being apps etc its keeps asking for the old one. help

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. But you'll still need the password.
Once you have the computer authorized to use the account she could change the password again to stop you buying apps on her card (assuming it's not on yours!). It would lock you out of upgrading them too but they should work unless she uses the deathorize all feature.
It depends on how amicable the split is...

ITunes sync prob with macbook pro & iphone4s

I can't get my iTunes on Macbook pro to transfer or sync tunes with my iphone4s. It only transfers the other way from phone to MBpro. If I click on sync, it spins the symbol but nothing happens. It can only "share" when physically connected.

I found iTunes version 10.6.3! Solved... for now.
