Sync deleted all of my contacts, how can I get them back?

I recently got an iPhone 4s. I synced it to iTunes for the first time to transfer all the music and apps from my iPod touch to my iPhone. In the process all of my contacts, messages, and notes were deleted. I checked for a backup but there hasn't been a backup for my iPhone yet, is there any way I can get my contacts back?

It really is very simple.
First of all look in the recycle bin where your songs may still be.
If not, and they're deleted from the computer, and your iPod, there is no way to get them back without using some data recovery software such as PodSalvage.

Have you synced back up to your iTunes account? This happened to me too, and when I synced back up with iTunes, all of my photos were backed up to my iTunes account and loaded back onto my iPhone.

Thanks, but I checked iCloud and it has none of them.
If it backed up to my laptop, that died and I just got the new computer. The one that's crashed won't even boot, so there's no way to even tell if it was syncing the contacts along with all the phone photos. Literally happened at the same time - it was because I had the new computer that I was finally able to pull the photos off the phone and make room for the upgrade. It had refused to upgrade for lack of space for some time.
I had thought it was set to sync to iCloud but it vanished from BOTH my phone and the cloud. That's why I'm so angry about it.

Contacts are not a part of backup (only favourites and recent calls list are backed up). Contacts are synced with a compatible programme on your computer (Outlook, Windows Contacts, Addressbook etc) or with a cloud service (iCloud, Yahoo, Google).
Sync them back from the programme you were using for backing up your contacts.
If you have not been backing up your contacts to either of these programmes, then they are gone.

The iphone is designed to be sycned to your computer regularly.
The contact will be in whatever program he has chosen to sync. Sync them back to the iphone form there.

Some of the notes were created after I last synced my iPhone to iTunes so restoring backup will not recover all of them but is better than nothing and my last resort if there is no other solution to this problem. The reason why they got deleted was because I had notes synced to my Yahoo mail without knowing it. When I found the notes on my yahoo mail, I tried to delete all of them because I only wanted them on my phone. However Ymail was not working very well (as usual) and I tried deleting them several times without success (like they are still there). So I realized that I could actually stop syncing notes to my email, which was what I did in Settings. Then I decided to delete my email account on my iPhone because I hardly use it anyway. When I later opened the Notes app, I found that it's empty.
Please help! Those notes are really important to me and I really would like to have them back!

Do you see them on the phone? If not, they are NOT "still in the phones hardware".
It's hard to suggest a course of action when we don't know what you did and you are unable to tell us.
If they are not on your computer, and they are not on the phone, I don't know what else to suggest...
Were you using iCloud? Did you have photo stream enabled? If you did, they would have been uploaded to iCloud. If you did not, then they are gone.

I have lost all of my changes -- How can I get them back?

I have made changes to many files in many folders. I have successfully moved several of those folders from my laptop to a USB external hard drive (as my laptop just cannot hold all photos).
This week, I purchased an installed a Network Attached Storage drive . . . and I copied all folders and photographs from my USB hard drive to the new networked drive. Then I disconnected my USB drive. Instead of then "locating" the "missing" folders (and re-mapping them one by one to the network drive), I "removed" the old folders from lightroom and re "imported" them from the new location on the network drive.
UNFORTUNATELY - none of my changes are there. How do I get these back?

Use a backup of your catalog that you made before you did this. If you don't have one, the changes are gone.
