Sync doesn't completely transfer browsing history information

Here's some context of the question. I'm the developer of [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fromwheretowhere/ FromWhereToWhere] , an addon that can display browsing history in Firefox in threaded view, which takes advantage of the part of stored history in Firefox that tells which page you visit one page from. For example, often people visit some page from the search result page of some search engines. I find this 'from-to' record a very important part of the browsing history.
I just tested with Sync between FF 7.0.1 on desktop Ubuntu and Fennec 4.0.1 on Windows. It seems the 'from-to' information is stripped from the history that I sent to the server, as the 'from_visit' field of the table 'moz_historyvisits' in the file places.sqlite in the profile of Fennec is 0 for all the history I sync-ed from Ubuntu.
I wonder if this is designed that only flat history is stored in Sync. I can see the difficulty in keeping the 'from-to' information, as the 'id' and 'place_id' in multiple history databases can overlap, and some extra work is needed to keep the merged data consistent. Still I wonder if Sync will make improvements about this in the near future.

I will recommend you to post your suggestion into the developers mailing list [email protected] where the audience is more technical and you can get better insights from the developer team.

  • Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history in the address bar

No matter what you do with Firefox in clearing the browsing history by going to History -> Clear Recent History and deleting everything or resetting FF by going to Troubleshooting information, Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history. The website you have browsed still appear in the address bar.
Several people already have complained about this issue (see thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939028) and the answer from the Firefox staff is that there is got to be a malware. This is not true, I've seen versions of Firefox in clean computers both Windows and Mac with Firefox doing the same thing, or more like not doing what it's supposed to do: clean the browsing history.
How unsafe is that. Where is your privacy? Firefox has to find a way to fix this glitch. Something tells me they're doing it on purpose because it hasn't been fixed after the complains.

You can delete the places.sqlite file if you aren't able to clear all history.

Are that entries that appear if you click the arrow at the far right of the location bar?
Do these items have a star to indicate that they are bookmarks?

  • Sync doesn't complete (Contacts)

I have my iTunes set to sync with "Google Contacts". When I initially set it up, I told iTunes to merge the two, which was fine.
I logged onto my Gmail, did some manually cleaning & getting rid of random E-mail addresses that had mysteriously appeared into my contact list. Resync'd and something still was still off.
low & behold, it turns out not ALL of my contacts will transfer from my iPhone to Gmail Contacts. Is there anything I can do so I won't have to manually do this on Google contacts myself? Is this a bug?

My iPhone 4 is also turning itself on and off, so I think the solution is to replace it with an iPhone 6.

  • ITunes to iPad 2 Music Sync Doesn't Completely Sync All Music

I've just updates my iTunes to 11.1.4 and iOS to 7.0.4.
Now I attempted to sync all my music and books from my Macbook OSX 10.8.5 to my iPad 2.
The books sync works perfectly. However, when I try to sync the music, only first song of each album are synced while the rest are not.
When I eject and reconnect the iPad, all the song are detected on the "On My iPad" tab, however the song don't appear on the iPad.
On the HD usage bar below, the unlisted songs are written as "Others", not as "Audio".
Anyone has idea what happened, and how to fix it? I've try restoring my iPad to erase all data, but the same issue happened over and over again each time I synced them.

I've figured out the main problem.
When I try to sync my iPad with iTunes, at some point usually it automatically cancels the sync.
I've tried to unselect the song from syncing with manual sync, but it still automatically cancels.
I've also tried unchecked and rechecked the Sync Music checkbox but the problem still presist.
Please, anyone can help me? Cause I need my iPad to be able to be synced with my iTunes.

  • Manipulating the browser history

ColdFusion doesn't work with 'browser history'-- 'window.history.go(-1)'.

    BKBK,
    our case is more complicated:
    one 'page.cfm' has 2 html  <FORM NAME="state1" METHOD="post" >, <FORM NAME="state2" METHOD="post" > and 1 <cfgrid ... >.
    It moves from one <form 1... > to <cfgrid ... > and then to <<form 2... > from <cfgrid ... > on the same page . On last <<form 2... > we have button< ... onClick="history.go(-1);" >.
It works on CF 8,9,10 but doesn't work on CF 11.
    Chrome complains:
This webpage requires data that you entered earlier in order to be properly displayed. You can send this data again, but by doing so you will repeat any action this page previously performed.
    Reload this webpage
Press the reload button to resubmit the data needed to load the page.
    Error code: ERR_CACHE_MISS.
I think it's setup of CF 11 (page history).

  • When I sync iTunes between my iPhone 4 and my PC, does it also download my iPhone browser history to my PC? My PC is not a Mac and doesn't have Safari. Thanks!

When I sync iTunes between my iPhone 4 and my PC, does it also download my iPhone browser history to my PC? My PC is not a Mac and doesn't have Safari. Thanks!

I'm not sure but I think as browser history is just a series of URL links they would work with any browser. I found this info
    Symptoms
When syncing iPhone or iPod touch bookmarks between Safari and Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows, the Favorites bar in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 may not refresh to reflect changes or updates to the bookmarks.
For example, if you sync Safari bookmarks to your device and then make changes to the bookmarks on the device (such as deleting some bookmarks, editing the web address, re-arranging the order of the bookmarks), when you then sync those bookmarks to Internet Explorer, the changes will not be reflected in the Favorites bar for Internet Explorer.
    Resolution
To refresh the Favorites bar, quit and reopen Internet Explorer.
Seems to indicate they work with internet Explorer

  • Can browser history transfer over to a PC when updating songs on the phone?

Can browser history from your iPhone get transfered over to your PC web browser history after syncing your phone through iTunes?  There have been some sites showing up on our PC web browser history that neither my wife nor I have visited and our Malware/Spyware/Virus program has not found anything.  These websites have been visited during times that nobody is at home however an iPhone was lent to our son with data blocked but his school has free WiFi.  So could websites that he has visited while at school on their WiFi also then transfer over to our browser history when he updates music in iTunes?

Ok, I have never used one of those, and have no intention of doing so.  Wasn't even aware people would put that on an iPhone since it strikes me as less than good security.

  • Autofill enabled, still doesn't complete, also checked the suggest history/bookmarks (websites under bookmarks don't show)

    About:config -->
    browser.urlbar.* all set to default
    browser.urlbar.autoFill
    browser.urlbar.autoFill.typed both set to true.
    Firefox --> Options --> Privacy
History is set to not remember
Location bar is set to suggest history & bookmarks
Example: I've got www.gogoanime.com and I type in the address bar www. or gogo no autofill is started, only a dropdown window for autocomplete.

hello firefoxuser1993, per default firefox does only auto-complete entries in the url bar that you have once typed in manually & since you have switched off history, this information is not available. you could either change your privacy settings to allow your browsing history to be remembered or you could change ''browser.urlbar.autoFill.typed'' to false, so that autocomplete works at least for bookmarked entries.

  • Mobile account doesn't complete initial creation and sync process

I'm trying to setup a mobile account for a network account but it won't complete the sync process on the client MacBook Pro. Both the server and the MacBook Pro are running 10.5.5.
When I login to client it prompts me to create a Mobile account and proceeds with the sync to create the account, but when the sync is complete it just logs in with the default account setup. None of the user files or settings (desktop image, preferences, etc) appear. The sync process says "Checking..." for all the files that supposedly get copied to the client, but it looks like it doesn't complete.
Is there a way of knowing what the problem is? Is there an issue with the user's home directory, some file that prevents the sync and mobile home creation from completing?
    Thanks.

I solved this myself. The user ended up have a folder on his desktop that contained a backup home folder from an old powerbook that he was trying to save. It was a complete home folder, Documents, Library, etc and I thought it might be interfering with the sync of the normal home folder. So I created a folder called Bad Stuff in the home folder and copied the old powerbook home folder into it. Then opened up the Sync Settings and excluded the Bad Stuff folder from the sync. And it worked, the sync when fine and is resyncing fine.
Hope that helps with other people with a similar problem.

  • When I try to sync my iPod iCal with my MBP iCal via WiFi I get a message saying "Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" but I am connected to a local network and thus the syncing does not complete"

When I try to sync my iPod iCal with my MBP (OS 10.7) iCal via iTunes and WiFi I get a message saying "Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" but I am connected to a local network and thus the syncing does not complete because the downloading never completes because I am not connected to the internet.
Why does syncing iCal need Safari Safe Browsing Data?  How can I turn this off?

    See:
iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi Syncing
"Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" is just some data that is synce with the computer. To turn off on the Mac go to System Preferencs>iCloud and turn off Safari

  • My iPhone 4S is not recognised by my computer when I try to sync. I am looking to upgrade, is it just easier to purchase a new one, then manually transfer data and information?

My iPhone 4S is not recognised by my computer when I try to sync. I am looking to upgrade, is it just easier to purchase a new one, then manually transfer data and information? I don't want to try syncing and backing up data to just lose it all. As the new one I plan to get is a newer model, I'm thinking it is just better to do it manually, but then I have the issue of syncing the new one to start.

    Hello Smeebo,
Thank you for asking your question! It sounds like your iPhone is not recognzied in iTunes when you connect it to back it up, or update the device. I would try the troubleshooting in either of these 2 articles depending on what operating system you have:

firefox installed automatically the latest version. Now my google browser, history etc. doesn't work anymore. It doesn't respond. I can't run searches from the browser. youtube button is missing. I've tried opening firefox in safe mode but that doesn't work

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • My browser history doesn't show yesterday's, last week's history etc. HELP PLEASE!!

I LOVE portable firefox and it's the only browser I ever use. Today, something happened and I am desperate to get help on this. Normally when the browser crashes, I reopen and hit "restore previous session" and I also open another window that may have had 5-6 tabs (it's normal for me to have 5-6 tabs in two diff windows). Today, I opened an older firedox version by mistake and now I can't get back to the 15 or so tabs I had originally! Worse yet, when I look at browser history, I see only two options: Today's browser history (which contains the single home page tab!) and "older than 6 months option" which is not what I want. I really need to see my browser history from the last couple of weeks! What went wrong when firefox never let me down before. I am freaking out here, help please!!
I am on a Windows 7 machine. My question is relevant to firefox portable version 37.01

The portable Firefox version comes with its own Firefox profile folder that is located in its installation folder.
    *X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile
So if you switch to a different portable installation then you get the profile folder from that version.
This is different then the normal release that uses the profiles.ini file.
You would have to locate the Firefox profile folder of that other version if you didn't uninstall it and copy the relevant files to the portable version that you currently use.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder (I assume that this work in the portable version as well):
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
