Sync doesn't sync, it just adds
I've yet to find an explanation of how sync is supposed to work. But after some fits and starts, I apparently have two computers "syncing." But it doesn't really sync bookmarks; it simply adds the two sets of bookmarks, hundreds of which are duplicates. They're in folders that have the same name with the same urls bookmarked. There's just two of them.
That's not really "syncing."
You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Previously I had a blackberry, if I wanted to add a song, all i had to to was drop and drag it to the device. Is there a way to just ADD a song and not have to sync the whole library? In effect this is a DNS block.
You can do it.
You need to be in an Admin Mac User Account that has non blank password.
Go to the Applications/Utilities folder and open Terminal.
You should see your shortname (the one under the Little House icon) followed by the $ symbol
Copy and paste the bold text below into Terminal after the $ symbol.
sudo pico /etc/hosts
This will load the file "hosts" into and editor that works in Terminal.
Use the arrow keys to get to the line with Verisign in it.
Now type the # symbol and it will be added in front of the character that is highlighted.
The # symbol is either Shift +3 or ALT+ 3 depending on your keyboard layout
Now use CTRL and O keys together.
This Saves the changes.
Quit Terminal.

I have a large book of contacts on my mac. I want to include just a subset on my iPhone. I have grouped the contacts on the mac. The iTunes sync offers just syncing specific groups, but it must refer to groups on the iPhone, because my mac contact groups don't show up. WHat am I missing?
Yes, connect your iPhone to your computer, click onthe name of your iPhone then click on the apps tab in iTunes.

Had to reinstall Lion. Backed up my music to an external hard drive. When I plug in my iPod a prompt msg says it's synced w/another iTunes library and asks if I want to "erase and sync" (to what is now an empty library) or "Transfer purchases". Do i "erase and sync" and re-add music from the hard drive once that's done?
You just need to tell iTunes where the library is located. If you want it back on your internal drive, copy the entite iTunes folder. Follow the instructions below.

We each have our own laptops.Hmm.
Probably easier for me to put all my stuff on my wife's computer I suppose.
Rebuilding all those iTunes playlists is not very fun though.
And of course anything new that I want on my laptop I will have to duplicate on her laptop in the future.
Not sure how iCloud works just yet.
So you can't have two laptops and manually sync both people's stuff to one iPad? -
My ipod touch 4th gen does not show up in iTunes when I plug it in. It charges, but I cannot sync it or add new music. I am using iTunes on a MacBook.

I have search on this and other forums regarding syncing my itunes music library with my 4s. I've tried all the usual, clicking on the iphone icon, clicking on the music tab etc, etc. but the window does not show a check box to sync music, just one that says sync voice memos!!! Plus a sentance that says" itunes match is on" "music can be downloaded and listened to with from icloud blah blah" But not if you have no signal and just want to listen to the music ive bought and paid for!!!

i tied to sync my ipod to the itunes but, the apps wont sync it just says the apps will be replaced with the ones on the itunes library,but there isnt any apps on there, i deleted all the apps after i use to use the library for my old iphone helpp, the ipod used to be synced with a another i tunes libary that i have deleted now

You can only sync with one ITunes library. It you switch iTunes library iTunes will erase the iPod and replace it contents with what is in the library of the new computer. -
hey there, so im making a video for a family event..
i drag in an audio clip all of a sudden this becomes the be all and end all, and i want to sync some vid clips to that audio track, so let's say i drag in a 10 second video clip, at the end of the 10 seconds, i want to add a transition to fade to black.. i go to the transition window.. choose the cross dissolve or fade to colour, but it will not allow me to drag it on that video clip.. it always ends up on the audio track. this bloody application is so confusing compared to final cut. please help!Ahhh, now I see the problem, Grasshopper. If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline. And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor. Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right). Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top. Drag it left for however much fade you wish. (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio. Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing. -
how can I avoid duplicates on contacts and how do I get contacts created on iPhone/ipad synchronized on my mac? so far it doesn't work correctly, just sometimes. same for icalendar
On your Mac, for duplicates, switching Contacts off then back on in System Preferences > iCloud may prevent duplicates.
On the iPhone / iPad tap Settings > iCloud. Make sure Contacts and Calendars are swtiched on.
Try restarting your Mac and your iOS devices when items won't sync as they should.
To restart an iOS device: Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. -
My question is to anyone that can help..I downloaded 2-300 photos on my iPad and want to reload a few hundred more. The last time I did this I lost the first batch of photos I loaded a week before. How do I just add without losing what is already on iPad?
You need to add the new photos to the ones that are currently on the iPad and (re-)sync them all - only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad, not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad (as you've found out).
You can use third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos to the Photos app via your wifi network, but they will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album, and not into a 'proper' album. -
How prevent shuffle autosync; keep contents and just add a few songs
My wife is very frustrated with her first-generation shuffle.
Problem 1: She often just wants to charge it on the iMac without changing its contents. Is there any other way than configuring iTunes not to come up when she plugs it in?
Problem 2: She often wants to leave the shuffle's current contents in place and just add a few songs from various folders, but the shuffle starts syncing/autofilling automatically. The Help says you can add songs manually in addition to or INSTEAD OF autofilling, but I cannot find how to prevent the autofill, and the fact that there is a button for autofill implies it can be a manual operation.
Does anyone know how to prevent the automatic syncing/filling?
My advice to her was to create a "Current iPod" folder, specify that as the folder for autofilling, and drag the songs into that folder, but she thinks that is clumsy, and wants to drag directly to her iPod without having it automatically sync or fill. Does anyone have any better suggestions?
Thanks!You can set it to manually manage your music in the Summary page and manually drag songs to it. Be sure to click Apply after you select it. Be sure you do not delete songs from your iTunes library or it will delete them from the Shuffle when you connect it.

EvelynAn audio file that is attached to an object or a slide, will play when that object or slide become visible. I don't know what you mean by 'has an audio file incorporated'? Do you mean that it is attached to the button in its audio part of the Properties, which is in the Options tab? In that case the audio will just play when that button gets visible, if it is at the start of a slide, audio will play at the start of that slide.
If you want an audio clip to play only when a button is clicked, you need to use an action 'Play audio', or make an audio object visible.

Beware: if you do this with a simple action triggered by the button, the playhead will be released if that button has a pausing point.
