Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unkown error (GET fail 503 in log)

I'm getting an unknown error while firefox is trying to sync. The log is available at http://pastebin.mozilla.org/6474503
I disconnected/connected again, created a new profile but the error persists.
Thank you in advance!!!

Two of these in a row.
GET fail 503 https://sync-105-us-west-2.sync.services.mozilla.com/1.5/6884533/info/collections
Another thread was started about a similar GET fail on that same server about ten hours after your issue.
I'll file a Bug report and hopefully someone can look into that tomorrow.
Sorry you're having that problem.

  • Encountered this error message when my firefox syncssync encountered an error while syncing unknown error

    Hi,
When my firefox syncs (be it on my desktop or mac) this error message will pop up. It was working fine a couple of days ago but this just popped-up. I tried de-linking and linking my firefoxes but to no avail.
I used about:sync-log and I have the log but I do not understand what is wrong. The log file is too long to be posted here.
    Anyway, thanks in advance.

Sorry, it's Firefox 31 with no master password. I will try to do a clean install and see whether it works.

I had the same problem and I fixed it as following (See if it's the same case for you) :
    1. Goto Tools > Options.
    2. Under Advanced, select the Network Tab.
    3. Click on Settings in the "Connection" box (open connection settings).
    4. Check if "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL" is selected. If it is so, select "No proxy" instead or manually enter your proxy if you are using one.
The option "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL" was the culprit for me and some others as well and selecting "No proxy" instead cured our problems. It is a bug and has already been reported on Bugzilla as you can see here :

I have also tried TDK, Maxell, Verbatim and Sony media
Me too. Out of that list the only brand that has NEVER produced a coaster (on the same burner as yours) is Verbatim DVD-R and Fuji DVD-R. All the others produced a 25-50% failure rate.
Have you tried burning at a slower speed?
Using 16x DVD media is fine - in fact it is difficult to buy any other - but there is a consensus in the Apple Support Forums that a slower burn is a better burn i.e. 2x or 4x (slow burns are better burns!). I always use Toast for burning.
The term "Best" means the fastest speed that the drive told Toast it can write to a specific disc. The drive's firmware and info on the disc decide what speed burns are available. When you press the speed setting button in Toast (after inserting a disc) you'll likely see some speeds in italics and some in bold face. The ones in bold face are supported by that media on that drive. The fastest one is what Toast calls Best.
Audio CDs in particular should be burned at the lowest supported speed.
Verification is a good indicator the disc is burned okay. However, other DVD players can still have problems with the disc. Media problems with various drives is not uncommon. Slower burning may reduce the chance of those problems, and is one of the reasons why RW (read/write) media is always rated slower than DVD-R.
There are some interesting facts here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm and here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm
But many will tell you that the 'slower burn is best' theory is outdated. Who really knows? At the end of the day, if your home-made DVD was verified by Toast and will play anywhere on anybody's DVD player, then that is the result we are all after!

  • How to fix "Sync encountered an error while syncing:Unknown error."

In mid July, after the firefox update, I had decided to close firefox like I usually do before I open the client for my MMORPG Aion, so I did. I end up not turning on firefox for a few days and when I did my bookmarks were gone as well as my toolbar bookmarks and my history. I start to wonder what happened and then I realised that there was a grey bar at the bottom of my browser stating, "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action.." I had no idea why this would happen as I never had this problem before so I look at the firefox support database but since I'm quite the greenhorn when it comes to programming there was only so much I could understand. I did try looking for corrupt or locked profiles but I saw none. Now as of today it's going on 2 months since the problem began and just today I recieved the firefox 32.0 update but still have this problem so I'm at my wits end and I not sure if I'll ever get it working again. Also my sync account is the one under the new system I had updated a few days before the problem began it also seems to be working on my other devices. Im lost without my bookmarks please help.

  • Sync encountered an error while synchronising: Unknown error

I'm using Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
I set up a sync account to transfer my history, etc. from my old desktop to my new laptop (details above). Since then, i haven't used my desktop, just the laptop.
For about the last week or so, the following error message keeps popping up at the foot of the screen:
"Sync encountered an error while synchronising: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." And there is a 'Sync now' button.
I can't think of anything that I've done (installing extensions, etc.) to cause this to happen.
Any ideas, anyone? All help appreciated.

Go to [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ your sync account], log in, and click clear your sync data.
Then click the Sync now button on the error message.
The error went away for me.

  • Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error.

    Bookmarks vanished on multiple computers.
Error message on all platforms: Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error.
Android device seems unaffected. Attempts to re-sync good data from android device have no effect.
I filed a bug report but after over 15 days it was marked as a duplicate and rolled into another bug report.
The solutions there are way (WAY) beyond my technical level of expertise, and look to be for the unix OS.
    Something about a corrupt root.
I've been very reluctant to clear my sync data, because the impression I get is that I'll lose all my bookmarks. The entire reason I started using Sync was to back them up!

    Computer2: Win7 enterprise sp1, 64bit. Firefox 17.0.1

If you've lost bookmarks then you should make a backup copy of the JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Firefox sync encountered an error while syncing

For the past week or so I've been getting an error bar at the bottom of Firefox stating "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." If I click the Server Status button it says the server is working fine. I've tried resetting Firefox, no good. I've also tried removing this machine from my sync account, deleting places.sqlite and readding it to sync, also no good. Log is below:

  • "sync encountered an error while syncing" (Firefox 4.0b12pre)

Fore weeks now, Firefox 4.0b12pre has not been able to sync. I get the following error message in the status-bar: "''Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action" [Sync Now]''
I have the nightly build on 2 PCs (Windows 7 64-bit). I have tried "Reset Sync" with no success. All of my backup bookmarks are from after the problem manifested itself (so I didn't do a restore from backup).

There was a server out last week. see below. now everything works great. thanks for the follow up.
