"sync error" resolved, now follow up questions

Forgive me if I'm too detailed here - I'll try to be brief.
I restored my iPod to factory four days ago, and after that it would not sync. Period. After four days of googling and weeping I tried everything and kept getting the dreaded "unknown error" message. I rebooted, reinstalled, restored (I can't even count how many times), tried manual and auto sync, on two computers; my home without internet and my work with internet. Yesterday the last attempt I made was to use windows to scan/repair the ipod. Reopened itunes and the diagnostics still said the sync test failed. So I went home and thought "what have I got to lose" and tried syncing at home, and by golly it worked.
So here is my two part quandry:
Almost no album art loaded from home, all of that is apparently stored on the work library. I don't know how to locate just album art to sync that to the ipod, and I obviously don't want to change to autosync at work since I got it to work on the other computer at home. OR - the bulk of both libraries is stored on a portable hard drive that I take back and forth. How do I locate and move the art files from the work hard drive itunes to the storage on the portable hard drive?
Second - my home library has about 1000 fewer songs than the work library. Should I just go through each artist and add manually? It will only add what's not already on the ipod, correct? And, if I do that, will it also add the missing artwork?
Or should I just not tempt fate and let sleeping dogs lie.
All help is gratefully appreciated. I've gotten a lot from reading these posts on the forums.

It's a problem when liquids enter computers. If it is just water, you have a better shot at recovery, but coffee is more troublesome. If it is coffee with sugar or dairy, it is looking very bad. Generally when anyone takes a machine in for service regarding something this "vague", service people will find something to replace, and then you run the risk of going back for more repairs when it turns out to be not quite right. Everyone has a different preference in these circumstances, so really it is up to you. My preference-style would be to have the thing serviced (do NOT tell the repair place about the liquid accident), sell it with an explanation of its history, and get a new one.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

If you have a dropbox account, there's a free app (probably more) that syncs photos to your dropbox account - picbox.
There's also PhotoSync that syncs photos to/from a number of different services and devices.

First I would just try deleting the SCInfo folder, restart your computer, open itunes and see if you are still getting the error, at that point if you are it is a permissions error with the computer specificaly and not in itunes.

  • When syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen.  have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing.

when syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen.  have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing.  Ipad does not show up in itunes even though cable plugged in.  Have shut down and restarted Windows 7 computer.

I had done all of that to no avail.  I did call Apple Tech Support and after he suggested I try a USB port in the rear of the Win 7 computer, things starting working again.  I had tried switching the USB port at the front of the machine but that had not helped.  Everything is good to go again.  thanks for  your reply

  • Sync error "erased" songs, now ghost files have me over capacity

Last night when I tried to a routine sync to iTunes using my iPhone (4S), I got the dreaded neverending "Applying changes" error during the sync. This happened a few times in a row. Some help forum advice suggested unchecking the "Sync Songs" box to fix the problem, and that did work, but now there is no music showing as available on my phone (ie, the phone doesn't seem to "see" any music files). iTunes still "thinks" they are there, though, because now when I try to resync including the music it tells me the memory is over capacity, even though my iPhone is functionally empty of music. It seems it didn't recalculate the available disc space after the sync errors.
SO, how do I either delete what may be "ghost" music files on my iPhone, or alternatively how do I make iTunes recognize that there is more space on the device than it is currently "seeing"?

    Hello aubiefan12
If turning off Sync Music and syncing did not remove the files as well as restoring from a back up. Then the only other option is to restore your iPhone and set it up as new and not rely on your back up as it may be corrupted and causing the issue. Alternatively you can back up using iCloud and use that back up to put back on after you have restored. Restoring from an iCloud back up does differ from an iTunes back up and may not bring back any ghost files.

Ive gotten the question mark icon thing, and I just took them off the dock and redragged them onto the dock from the Applications folder again and they worked fine.  Mine were a couple of game type programs nothing major yet.  Just wanted to throw that out there though since I had that happen with a few dock icons.

    Hey deepakmenonfrompune,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes for Windows. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Some Windows customers may experience installation issues while trying to install or open iTunes 11.1.4.
    Symptoms may include:
"The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer"
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 126)”
"Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly"
"Entry point not found: videoTracks@QTMovie@@QBE?AV?$Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverf low@@***@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll”
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
    1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
    2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
    1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
    2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    3. Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

  • Sync error code (-54)

I get the following error code when attempting to sync my 5s on my HP computer running Win 8:
-The iPhone 5s cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (-54).
I purchased AppleCare when I bought this phone and after multiple phone calls with AppleCare the last contact I had, I was told "We will review the diagnostic files you uploaded, and I will call you back."  That was three weeks ago, and after sending two follow up emails, now the supervisor at AppleCare has not and does not call back to resolve. (I think AppleCare is no longer the value it once was).
Has anyone else had the sync error code (-54)?
    How did you resolve it?

On the Windows version of iTunes, error -54 means a general IO error occurred that can be caused by many different things: a file is corrupt, a file is locked, or an .m4a file could not be converted to a lower bit rate.
iTunes Library cannot be saved (Error -54) - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1912814
Unknown error (-54) while syncing ipod - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1082953 - problem was locked files
Why does iTunes keep showing a -54 error when I sync my iPad? - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3727114
Error -54 possibly related to Touch Copy - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3727114 - cleared by deleting preferences on iPad.

  • Synced Error Messages

Had iPad for about one month now and since yesterday everytime I place in dock to sync with iMac I get error message "The iPad cannot be synched. An Internal device error occurred." Followed by the message "The iPad cannot be synched. The required file cannot be found."
I have attempted several restores of the iPad only to find the problem reoccurs every time.
I research some posts and removed "iPod Photo Cache Folder" from Users/Library but it did not work.
Setup the iPad as new iPad thinking that the prior backups may have been corrupted. That worked but when it was docked again and then synched it would result in the same problem. At this point I have restored it as a new iPad but I am not docking it anymore...I re-downloaded purchases apps and books. iPad appears to be functioning fine...wondering if anyone has ideas. I know I can bring it to Apple Genius but problems appear at synch so I am not sure I can replicate with lugging my iMac there too. Very frustrated at the lack of diagnostic utilities for iPad.
    Appreciate anyone's experiences or advice.

Thanks for response. I thought of that and tried docking without dock straight cable to iMac still received the message. I believe it might be related to fast user switching corrupting the iTunes so we disabled the automatic synching when connecting devices as a precaution I really think it's not a hardware issue. I was able to sync it when I turned all sync options like photos, songs, and apps. It's become very time consuming to restore the iPad each time I attempt to sync almost questioning the value of doing it.
