Sync files to computer from iPod after hard drive crash

My main hard drive crashed that had all of my music. I'm guessing only a few sectors failed since I was able to recover 95% of my music library but all of my songs had since been transferred to my 64gb gen 5 iPod touch.So now I want to pull all of my music off of my iPod and compare it to the songs I was able to recover (I have already added the recovered songs to itunes).
My problem is that when I sync my iPod I don't see any music at all. When I first connect the iPod it doesn't even show any audio files on the device but when I backup the device it shows the correct size amount for the files (24.88gb). Even though the bar at the bottoms shows that I have 24.88gb of audio files nothing is shown when I click on Music under my device. *** is going on here. I refuse to believe that I can't get the songs FROM my iPod.
Any help here would be much appreciated

My hard drive failed. Fortunately all of my songs were backed up on my iPod. Got a new computer and can't figure out how to get the songs from my iPod back to my computer. Some songs were purchased from iTunes, some from CDs. I tried the import function and all it does is bring the titles into my library but cannot find them when I try to play them on my computer. You may already be using the iPod in manual update mode in which case you can ignore the rest of this post. In manual mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased. However if you are getting a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, click *No*. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list. Change the update setting in Preferences>iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists" Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, on Windows, hold down Shift + Ctrl. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

Cannot sync iPod after hard drive crash

Hard drive crashed last week so reinstalled new from Dell. Data all backed up. Since new drive in cannot sync iPod. USB cable OK, iTunes "sees" iPod name and can download to iTunes but no sync. Do not get any kind of error msg that iPod registered on "another" computer (which it was). Still under warranty.

Try restoring the iPod in itunes. This should assure that it sync with the current computer it's hooked up to.

Sync iPod after Hard Drive crash

The Hard Drive in my daughter's Macbook recently died and was replaced. I was able to restore from Time Machine but the last time she backed up was about 6 months ago.
She has several albums that she'd imported in the last 6 months and are now residing on her iPod but not on her iTunes.
My question is this: If she syncs her iPod will the music she has on the iPod but not in iTunes be deleted or imported?

Thanks - some old info there and a couple of the links no longer work, but I was able to find an app called senuti at http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ with a free trial that allows transfer of 1000 songs - way more than I needed.

Recovering music from Ipod after hard drive failure.

My hard drive failed and was replaced. I had most of my music backed up, but not all of it. Can I recover songs from my Ipod and put them pack into Itunes? Can I also recover playlist? I did not have those backed up.

SImpler solution, if your not too comfortable using terminal, Is to simlply download the trail version of Music Rescue.

The trails free forever, it just has an annoying popup every 50 songs you take off your ipod, it works exactly like a reverse iTunes.

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:

My hard drive AND my backup drive crashed. I sent my G4 into Apple for a new drive which came back, of course, virgin. However, if I synch my iPod to the new iTunes-which has nothing in it-- I will strip everything on the iPod. Is there a way to get what is on my iPod into iTunes without losing the entire content?

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.

I just survived and am recovering from a hard drive crash. For some reason, on my backup, I only retained about 500 of my 2500 songs in my library. All of my music is intact on the ipod however.
