So another yes and no answer
Will you get duplicates? Kind of. Since the data is the same it will duplicate things, however because of the way the synergy feature works it links this data together. So if you look at your contacts from a first glance it will not look like you have duplicates, but going into the actual contact will show that you do have that same contact in multiple places. Also data will only appear duplicated on your Pre not in Google itself.
If you are transitioning to Google you should get the few contacts that are not in Google over there.
After you get them in Google follow these steps to erase your palm profile and then start over so you don't get the "duplicate" contacts ( of course assuming you want to do this, as it will erase your entire palm profile and you will have to add everything back on the phone, Contacts are in google though )
To erase your backup do the following
1. Launch backup
2. Turn backup off
3. Close backup
4. Launch Device Info
5. Select reset options
6. Partial Erase
7. Sign back into existing profile
8. Add your Google account to get your contacts
9. Remove contacts from palm desktop.
10. Run DTA if you need to get Calendar or anything else from palm desktop
Make sure you have verified your palm profile before performing above steps

  • ITunes on Win 7 64 bit will not sync Google Contacts to iPad

This was particularly infuriating for a few solid hours one evening. I had originally synced my iPad to a Macbook Pro. I sold the MacBook, and had to do a warranty swap @ the Apple store with the iPad. This meant I needed to sync my new iPad with iTunes on my desktop, a computer running Windows 7 64 bit. Everything synced up just fine, except iTunes refused to sync my Google Contacts with the iPad. I went through the process again and again, ensuring I was choosing Google Contacts on the Info screen, correctly entering my account info, etc. I would sync, then check the Contacts on the iPad, and nothing.
I was going to call Apple support from work the next day, but just for the heck of it before I did I connected the iPad to my work computer, a Win XP Pro box, and tried to sync the Google Contacts from that copy of iTunes. It worked just fine, and loaded all my Google Contacts on to the iPad. Both my home Win 7 64 box and my work XP box had the most up-to-date version of iTunes at the time (9.1.1 I believe).
Any clue as to why iTunes refuses to sync Google Contacts on Win 7 64? I have to sync through iTunes, since Apple sees fit to only allow one Exchange account in iPhone OS 3.x.x and I have my work email setup as the Exchange account, and thusly cannot setup Gmail as the Exchange account.

Just for the heck of it, I did a factory reset on the iPad again, and gave it another shot on the Win 7 64 machine at home. I uninstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, installed iTunes 9.1.1 64 bit for Windows, and achieved the exact same results: impossible to get iTunes to sync Google Contacts to the iPad. It goes through the motions, but never delivers any contacts to the iPad.

  • How to sync Google Contacts without iTunes

First, I know this looks like a duplicated question (of other with same title) but if you look you will see that question is pretty different.
Also, I've seen some suggestions visiting m.google.com/sync, but that is not available anymore, at least for iOS 5.
I have many Google Contacts that came from more than one Android Devices. Using iTunes, (Device, Info, Sync Google Contacts) I managed to download all those contacts. Problem of this solution is: contacts added in the iOS device (in my iPod) are only uploaded to Google Contacts (therefore for the android devices) when I connect my to itunes - with is a pretty bad solution for many reasons.
So I found a kind of a solution that is using an exchange account just for the contacts, refer here:
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740
problem is, whatever I do (after validating and getting information that i'ts correct) when I access the address book it's prompted the password, I put it and I always get wrong password. I found many people with the same problem but no clear solution?
Anyone knows a workaround or another solution ?

In answer to actionmarker: i have windows xp servie pack 3
In answer to Julian Wright: I just want a backup in case something happens to my ipad I  have no need for instant access on my computer as i rarely use it. I do not want to have to purchase outlook to backup and as far as i can tell even sycning with google calander (which i would need to setup as I do not already have but as i have a gmail account assume I can signup) seems to require outlook.
So if i do nothing and worse comes to worse a restore of my ipad would recover my calander data?
I am hoping that with iclouds and ios5 release that as far as i can tell from what i have read calander will be instanlty backed up over wifi when the ipad is connected to a powersource. I'm just hoping that it won't still require outlook (as it does not in mobile me).
The other big risk is that the act of updating to iso5 will wipe my calander data or that i will be in need of a backup prior to iso5 coming out.
So if anyone has any suggestions.....

  • How to sync Google Contacts groups to iPhone?

I can sync my contacts both ways between Google Contacts and my iPhone's phone book.
Contacts in Google contact are grouped. When contacts are synced to the phone, grouping information is lost.
How do I preserve grouping information?
Related question: I only want to have a few selected groups in Google to sync with my phone. How do I do that?
why when I sync google contact at itune, the" selected groups" is gray?

Hi - from the"iPhone 6 User Guide for iOS 8.1",I followed the following steps:
Use your Google contacts: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, tap your Google account,
    then turn on Contacts.
So I entered Gmail and password. Then withing Contacts app I pressed the Sync link.  Afterwards I've got all contacts in one big list, just not categorized by Google groups.

How do i  sync google contacts in mac os 10.8.2 ?

I was finally able to get PSE 11 to install by downloading the free trial. But first, I had to upgrade Adobe's Application Manager. I was then able to use the serial number contained in the confirmation email Adobe sent me from when I purchased it online.
Adobe sure makes it difficult to spend my hard-earned money!

  • ITunes Unable to Sync Google Contact Groups?

Seems the previous topic on "iTunes Unable to Sync Google Contact Groups?" was archived without a fix being reported!
I have iTunes (version 9.0.3.15) running on Windows Vista and iPhone 3Gs (version 3.1.1) and this issue with not being able to select sub groups in Google Contacts is still buggin' me... a lot!
Has anyone heard if Apple have fixed this?
    Thanks, Adam.

I just got off the phone with Apple support. They said this feature is not supported. It was, but not anymore.
You would think that this would be pretty easy to figure out.
I'm just as frustrated as the rest of you.

  • Sync Google Contacts via iTunes not working

    Hi
Just got a new Macbook with Yosemite and am syncing my Google Mail, Calendar, Contacts with the Macbook without difficulty,  I have disabled iCloud syncing for Mail, Calendar, and Contacts.
Now, I want to get Google Contacts set up on my old iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) as a stop gap before getting a new iPhone down the line.  However, I can't find a reliable way of getting my Google Contacts on to the iPhone 3G.
Exchange Sync and CardDAV do not work.  I don't mind syncing via iTunes but I can't set this up either.  Despite telling iTunes to sync 'All Contacts' it won't sync those from my Google account.  Only contacts in 'On My Mac' group sync across, but I don't want to manually keep track of and copy new Google contacts into this group just to sync.
Why won't iTunes sync the Google contacts group - currently it is the only group in my OS X Contacts.
I have reset sync and reinitialised the iPhone to factory image - neither works.
    Any advice appreciated.

    try rebooting the appletv.
also, you have a first generation appletv but have posted in the second generation appletv forum.

  • Sync google contacts via itunes

do the contact go to contact book?

In order to make the sync work the way you describe I would have to manually export the contacts from Google, manually import them into Outlook. Then manually export the Outlook contacts back out and re-import them back into Google. Then hope that duplicates don't occur. This would all be done without using iTunes.
iTunes doesn't support syncing directly with a csv file. Syncing with iTunes works without any issue to get contacts to and from the phone. However, those contacts will not get into Google's server. And any contacts that came from Google will never sync with iTunes.
What I want is a way to do this automatically. You are right however, MobileMe might be the only way to do this with Outlook. But I have Outlook XP (2002), I would need to upgrade to Outlook 2007 in order to use this. In addition it says the following: "If you use Microsoft Outlook in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange Server, MobileMe will not sync your contacts or calendars with Outlook." So I am back once again to not being able to sync with all 3 (phone, outlook and exchange "cloud"). Maybe this is why that didn't work for your buddy.
MobileMe also costs $100/year. A little steep if you ask me, considering exchange through Google is free.

  • Syncing Google Contacts with iPod Touch iOS 1.1.5

I have one of the first iPod touch models ever released.  It does not even support the App store, the only apps it has is the default iPod apps put on there by Apple.  I was always able to sync my Google contacts with the contacts on my iPod whenever I synced with iTunes on my Windows PC, under the info tab there was an option for Syncing contacts with Google, Outlook, and Windows Contacts but after the last iTunes update I no longer see this option available on iTunes.  I have researched this alot and tried all of the other "work arounds" for this like the one explained in this discussion thread:
After upgrading itunes 11.1, sync with google contacts option disappear.
    and
how do i get ipod touch to sync contacts w/gmail
    and
    Contacts syncing with Gmail
but since my iPod is has iOS 1.1.5 and will never be able to upgrade any higher when I add my Gmail account to my Mail app there is no option or "Contacts" button anywhere to be found, I am guessing this contact syncing feature wasn't added until later iOS versions.
So my question is now that iTunes no longer syncs contacts with Google, is there any work around you guys know of that will work with my primitive stone age iOS 1.1.5 iPod touch?
    Thanks alot!

First I would update to iOS 3.1.3., the late update for your model iPod
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
    https://buy.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLegacyLandingPage
    Then try again.
To more easily find compatible apps for your iPod
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

  • IPhone 4 & iTunes 10 won't sync Google contacts after initial sync

I've set up and successfully synced iTunes 10.0.1.22 with my Google contacts and iPhone 4 once initially. When I change or revise my Google contacts either online with Gmail/Google or on the phone and re-sync nothing updates. New phone contacts don't update to Gmail nor does new Gmail contact info sync and update to phone.
Music, pictures, ringtones and apps all update and sync fine.
I do have the sync set to Google and have authenticated the account and password for Google.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I have the same issue where new contacts are not updated on iphone or google accounts, it seems the contacts do not automatically sync when checking mail. I previously used an android phone which synced all google data easily, though this remains a bug with apple iphone.
*Google contacts are only updated and synced when you connect your iphone to itunes and re-sync contacts.* This does not happen through 'push' notifications or syncs with google mail.
Shame, for such an expensive mobile, there are more faults with it than publicised. I've been an apple user for more than a decade, so many people were saying how amazing iphone is, though my experience has shown it still has many bugs to solve. Android completes some tasks much better than an iphone, where iphone excels in others. You can't have it all.

  • 9320 - how to sync gmail contacts only, not email

    Hi there,
I'm looking for a way to sync my Gmail contacts with my BB, but without having to sync my emails from that account as well.
The reason is that I use my BB for professional email only and want to keep my personal email out of it. The device is far from user friendly when you get several emails per day on both accounts. Besides, I already sync my personal email with another device, so I don't want to do the same work twice.
I'm also really happy with the way Google syncs my contacts, keeps them backed up, easily sorted, etc. As for my BB, my contacts are on the device and nowhere else, meaning they are easy to lose (as happened to me a couple of months ago when my device died and technical support couldn't bring it back to life and had to replace it). And I don't mind to have the contacts all mixed up, they're easy to find in both devices so it's fine.
Anyway, I hope anyone can help me.
    Best regards!

No need to export your address book to your computer as suggested above ...
If you have iOS 7, all you need to do is set up your Gmail account (Settings/ Mail, Contacts, Calendars) and your Google contacts will sync directly to your iPhone's Contacts app.  Simple, no fuss, and changes you make on either end are updated periodically through the day.
Note that you don't have to use the Mail app for your mail if you prefer to use the Gmail app, you can choose to just sync your Google contacts with the iOS setting above if you prefer.

  • Can you use iCloud to sync contacts and still sync google contacts too

Just switched my contacts over to sync using icloud between my imac, iphone and ipad. Im wondering, can I sync the contacts somehow with google also? Would be great to gave everyting together and have web access to contacts on any computer.

I should've just tried it before I asked this question.  Once I disconnected my internet completely, I was able to fully see and use my iCloud Documents, etc... They must be stored elsewhere on the computer instead of somewhere obvious like the Documents folder.
I was able to open, edit, etc... and it appears that once you do connect to the internet that the new edits will sync with what's stored on iCloud, and then become accessible to your other devices.
Of course, I then after doing all this, found a similar question which already had answers.  Sorry to clutter up the forums.

  • Feature Requests for BlackBerry10 OS: Sync Google contact grops to BB Contact groups

    Hi,
I am using my Z10 and as well a Q10 for already one year now.
What I am still missing dramatically is the opportunity that my google contact groups get also synced into groups in the BB device.
I am using several groups to inform different teams with emails or SMS. All of them are organized in groups on google - unfortunately BB10 is still not able to sync these groups - and I am talking about 390 contacts :-/
Is there any plan to integrate this feature?

I don't know if there is any coming funciton for that.
You can create those Address Book Groups in your device Contacts app.
