Sync iCal between OSX 10.4.11 and OSX 10.5.8

In what ways can iCal be synced between OSX 10.4.11 and OSX 10.5.8?
Can iCal 2.0.5 be installed on OSX 10.5.8 so both OS run the same version of iCal?
If so, how?
Can iCal Calendars be moved to an external drive, and both iCal installs pointed to same location?
From OSX10.5.8, I've copied files in ~/Library/Calendars/
to a folder on the external drive, then pointing OSX10.5.8 ~/Library/Calendars/ to the external drive folder.
As far as I can tell, iCal works fine, and I've deleted and edited calendars.
I then pointed OSX10.4.11 ~/Library/Calendars/ and OSX10.4.11 ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/ to the same calendar folder on the external drive.
Different calendars displayed in iCal 2.0.5 on OSX10.4.11 than on OSX10.5.8 and kept reappearing after deleting and restarting iCal 2.0.5.
I deleted 10.4.11 ~/Library/Calendars/ after finding reference indicating that iCal on OSX10.4.11 has different structure with data stored at ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/ instead of at ~/Library/Calendars/ on OSX10.5.8
(I must have mistakenly thought there was a ~/Library/Calendars/ folder in iCal 2.0.5 on OSX10.4.11)
I then deleted all the calendars from iCal 2.0.5 on OSX10.4.11 except one which would not allow deletion, and they remained deleted after shutting down and restarting iCal 2.0.5, but calendars stored on external drive still do not appear in iCal 2.0.5 on OSX10.4.11
Calendar .ics exports from iCal on 10.5.8 can be imported to iCal 2.0.5 on OSX10.4.11, but they do not retain structure.
Data from several calendars get mixed up together for some reason.
Any suggestions on how to get the two versions of iCal synced?
I have 2 drive partitions that I use and need to be able to share calendars between the OSX versions.

Hello.
Most MacBooks can run at least 10.6, some can run 10.7 needed for iCloud.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
   * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It looks like they might still have it...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
Lion/101.7 System requirements
    •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    •    At least 2GB of memory, I say 6 GB
    •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
    •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, I say 50 GB.
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • How can I get iCloud to sync between iOS 6.1.3, OSX 10.6.8 and OSX 10.8.3?

I am running both OSX 10.6.8 and OSX 10.8.3 on my iMac with iOS 6.1.3 on my iPod Touch.
Everything is checked ON in the iCloud settings where those are available, in iOS, OSX 10.8 and in iCloud.com on my OSX 10.6.8 system.
I either get no synchronisation, or a duplication of events. Apple Store Events which need to be clumsily downloaded from the website, double clicked on and hopefully added to Calendar, only randomly appear and rarely get announced. I can't see a pattern to anything.
It currently won't sync between iCloud.com and Address Book, Calendar etc on the Mac let alone with iDevices (my wife has an iPad as well), despite partially syncing previously.
It is erratic, obscure and totally unreliable as well as being a huge waste of my time.
If I follow the iTunes instructions as well as the iCloud.com instructions generally nothing happens.
In the Advanced pane of iCloud.com settings, I have selected the “In-app notifications” checkbox, and Saved. Doesn't work. Then I unselected and saved and closed iCloud.com. Then checked it all over again, still doesn't work.
According to the settings it says it is sharing with the iPod Touch, but nothing happens.
Previously a few events appeared belatedly at some later time, often after the event they were supposed to announce. Currently nothing is syncing.
Most frustratingly I can't sync my Address Book/Contacts so have to manually include all the contact info in all my individual devices and systems.
Has anybody got a surefire method of making the sync happen?

That's correct but your 10.6.8 machine has no way to put it there unless you manually enter it on the website.
That to sync data from iCal and Address Book in Snow Leopard to the iCloud server you must manually register and connect to the iCloud.com website which I have done.
You can't sync from Address Book or iCal in Snow Leopard.

The syncing to the same data in Mountain Lion is done via the System Preferences > iCloud, which I have done.
Supposedly that means the data on the iCloud server is then shared between the iPod Touch, SL and ML, but it is not.
Because data entered on the SL machine never makes it from iCal or AB to iCloud or from iCloud to AB or iCal, the link breaks there.. You can use a 3rd party app (Soho) and use it instead of AB and iCal.
But the problem exists on ML as well.
I get only some Contacts and iCal events transferring.
What you are seeing is probably from SL account which I use 95% of the time. Particularly my Address Book entries. I hardly entered any of those in ML, they virtually all come from SL and seem to have transferred previously. Possibly before the latest iOS updates, but I can't swear to that as I didn't check before/after.
The vast majority of my Address Book entries appear in both iCloud.com and my iPod Touch, but not my latest changes.
This is far from the "It just happens!" promised by Apple.

  • TS1627 Sync iCal between MacBook and iPhone5

I have searched for weeks/months to be able to find a fix for sync'ing iCal between MacBook (Snow Leopard OS) and iPhone 5
There are many workarounds that looked way too complicated to install.
This fix is simple and works - recommended to anyone

Synching mail on a computer and an iPhone doesn't synch the actual mail, but rather the account settings.
As to why you're deleting emails on your macbook and yet still seeing them on your phone is that you most likely have a POP account, and not an IMAP or Exchange.  This is a function of the type of mail account you have, not of the synching between the phone and computer.

  • How to sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?

    Hello,
How can I sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?
I'm still using MobileMe, but I will stop soon.
I'm using my iPhone in India a lot to create new events or to add new contacts. At the end of the day I would like to able to sync it with my MacBookPro without using MobileMe. Internet Connection is often very bad in that area. The iPhone I only use without UMTS and all that Data Transfering stuff. Best for me would be to sync directly by wire or Bluetooth if possible. If you have a solution with and without Internet Connection, that would be very helpfull to me.

On the Mac, in iTunes with iPhone attached, click on the iPhone section. Go to the "info" tab. There you will see a list of items that can be synced. Make sure that "sync addressbook contacts" is checked, along with the appropriate choices under it.
Don't know what else to say, it works fine here.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT5225 Syncing data between devices vs. sharing data and drop box files.

As you most likely kwow, I've been told that only Lion will allow one to use the cloud to share music, contacts, photos, and etc. between one's phone, iPad, and computer. Let's say I have 4000 photos on my desktop; and I don't wish to see all them on my other devices. Can I choose only the ones I need by connecting the iphone to the pc or iPad by using iTunes- or should I drag and drop all contacts, etc. that I wish to put in icloud - or should I use my drop box for all or some files? For instance, none of my iPhone phone number contacts came with there existing email addresses. I should say that I have many contacts and songs on an older version - leopard that is not compatible with iCloud. What would do?
    Steve

Having played around more with PadSync, I find that I can drag files into PadSync (which then sync to the iPad), but when a revised version is synced back to PadSync, I can double click the icon to open the file in the mac's native application, but I can't drag the file out to a destination folder or use any other means of getting it out of PadSync.
    Am I missing something?
---- ah, I found the way. I was looking at the files in PadSync using icon view. When I switched to list view, I can then drag files out of PadSync. Funny, I can't drag files out using icon view.

  • Sync iCal between 2 Macs?

    Hi,
New to iCal, I have 2 Macs and I am trying to sync my different calendars to each machine. Do I have to publish each calendar or suscribe? Don't really understand what I am doing..... I have selected Sync iCal in .MAC pref but no where the system is asking me info for the 2 Macs, how do the system know what and where to Sync????
BTW I have a .Mac account, Macbook and PowerMac G5 both 10.4.8 and latest updates for all the apps.....
    Thanks

While you can synchronize both published and subscribed calendars, it is not necessary to publish a calendar in order to synchronize it. The process of synchronization has no relationship to publication or subscription.
The synchronize calendars using .Mac Sync, follow the instructions shown here:
    http://www.mac.com/1/learningcenter/Modules/qgdmSynct1.html
Calendar synchronization is an all-or-nothing proposition: you cannot select which individual calendars are synchronized, all are or none are.

  • Can I sync iCal between two iPhones?

My wife and I each have a Mac and an iPhone and MobileMe. We each use iCal, which syncs wonderfully well for each of us, separately. What I want to do is be able to enter some shared events and have them sync to both desktops and both iPhones. I know I can create a shared calendar and publish it to MobileMe and then have her subscribe it, BUT that puts the event in a read-only status on her desktop only, and not on the iPhone.
I'm led to believe that OS 3.0 will solve this. Is that true? Is there a solution now, and if so, is there one that I won't have to undo when 3.0 comes out?

We have one MM account for the both of us [email protected]
Ok i'll try the instructions bit now
All this is done from the MM web interface
First we stopped the home computers syncing to MM
Then we set up two email aliases [email protected] and [email protected]
that way we can each have an individual email address and a shared one as well
We then filter the email coming in so they go to a folder named for each of us or if it's sent to the main MM email account it stays in the inbox (though you can just leave it so all mail to both of you along with the main email will go into the inbox)
choose Actions(the little gear symbol)>Preferences>Aliases tab to manage aliases
For calendars you go to the calendar view
Then on the left click on the + symbol or right click and choose to create new calendar we created three "us" (for shared events), "myself" (for me), "mywife" (for my wife) and assigned a colour to each
    on the iPhone
go to settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar>(appropriate calendar for each iPhone)
This means that when you create a calendar entry it will default to being in your colour
If you want to create a calendar entry for your wife when you add a new event there is an option to choose the calendar you add it to, once the event is added though you can't edit this afterwards.
The default view is to see all calendar entries for everyone if you just want to see your events open Calendar>Calendars then select the appropriate calendar to just view that calendars events the calendar will remember this setting for next time
Once this was done we re-sync'd the home computers to MobileMe and they picked up the multiple calendars and displayed the entries accordingly so no setup was required on them.
Hope this helps if you want me to expand on any points let me know as i tried to keep it as brief as possible while still providing a reasonable guide.

  • Syncing ical between 2 macs without .mac account, is it possible?

    Hi all,
I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro and want to be able to sync iCal over the 2 machines so that entries added/updated on one will appear on the other.
I don't have a .mac account and don't really want to get one as this is all I would be using it for. So is this possible without a .mac account?
The two computers are not yet networked (I think) however they do share the same broadband internet connection through the same Belkin router, so I presume I can connect the two through this way (that will be my next question!!!)
How is the easiest way to achieve this?
    Cheers,
    Andrew

take a look at busysync, I think that will help you achieve what you want to do with your two computers over a local network.

  • ITunes 11 cannot sync iCal between phone and macbook?

Is no one else having this issue? It seems that with iTunes 11 they have taken away the option to sync your calendar events through iTunes and now you can only do it through iCloud. Well if you're running OS 10.6 you don't have iCloud. Is there anyway around this? I uninstalled iTunes 11 and installed 10.6.3 but then it wouldn't open because my iTunes library was created by a new version. So I just gave up and went back to iTunes 11. I have a lot of events on my macbook's iCal that would take forever for me to transfer manually, especially since iOS 6 still doesn't even allow you to copy and paste events. I'm beyond frustrated. Does anyone have an easy solution to this? I've tried GMail but all of the tutorials were confusing, and when I tried to set up my GMail account in iCal on my Macbook pro and it kept giving me errors and saying it couldn't communicate with the server or something. I believe all of this is a huge oversight by Apple and it's alienating a lof of users.

I have the same problem. This is very recent, and seems to be because I upgraded the OS in both cases. Before I did that, everything was fine. So, now, any event that I input on the Iphone 3GS fails to show up on the Macbook Air. Not only that, when I tried the override button in Itunes, as my calendar entries in the computer were now newly made, it would not synch it on my phone.
The final straw is that any calendar invite I get, refuses to be assigned on my calendar...
Took it to the Apple Support folks here, and after 3-4 hours, all they did was what I told them I had already done - to do a full restore...  nothing happens. In fact, whenever I do this, I get an additional repitition of calendar entries from the older events... so, I have 6 anniversaries of my own now, and 3 birthday renditions of my friends - on the same date... !

  • Sync iCal between macs

Events are not showing up between my Powerbook G4 and desktop iMac G5. This is a recent problem. I followed the "help" guidelines for resetting sync but that did not fix things. ICal preferences and .mac sync appear to be set correctly on both computers.

While you can synchronize both published and subscribed calendars, it is not necessary to publish a calendar in order to synchronize it. The process of synchronization has no relationship to publication or subscription.
The synchronize calendars using .Mac Sync, follow the instructions shown here:

  • Syncing iCal between multiple users

My iMac is set up with multiple accounts (one for me, one for my wife and one for my son). We all use iCal to schedule events, etc. How in the world do I sync up all of our versions of iCal so that we can automatically see the events that each of us has created? iCal is useless unless we can have it auto sync between all users.

iCal really is not designed to work for more than one user.
However, you can each publish your calendars so that the others can subscribe:
Select a calendar from the list on the left of the screen.
Under the calendar menu, choose 'publish'
If you don't have .Mac you will need to choose the publish on a Private Server option. (If you do this, there's a good one at iCalx.com where you can create a new account.)
Look at the options when you do this, you will probably want at least to choose the auto update one.
Once you have published successfully, you can choose to send a mail to those who you wish to share with.
Your wife and son need just to open the mail and select the subscribe link.
IF you repeat this process for each of you, you will then have a view of what each of you is doing and when. Biggest downside I see to this, is if more than one of you is doing the same thing, you'll get repetition of that event.
In addition, there are numerous 3rd party solutions that you can find through something like versiontracker.com.
