Sync in Progress Problem

I have a 2g Itouch and 2.1 software. Im using itunes 8 with Windows Vista. When i connect the itouch to my computer itunes says "Syncing Ipod" and my itouch says "Sync in Progress" the problem is that it never syncs anything into my itouch. The circle with the arrows just keeps spinning it never finishes syncing. It worked the first day but it does not want to sync. Its my 2nd day with the touch.
Any ideas?

I had the exact same problem in conjunction with the iPhone continually copying songs that it already had on the device. As a solution to both problems, I took the route posted here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451).
*Before you try this*, read about the woes I'm experiencing because of taking that route. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10229813&#10229813)
I'll be updating the other post to cross reference this one so we can hit this problem from both sides.

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • When I try to transfer songs from itunes library to ipod touch it says sync in progress but songs are not on my ipod touch?

When I  transfer music from itunes library to my ipod touch, it says sync in progress on ipod touch, however, the songs don't show up on ipod touch. I have transferred songs in the past with no problem.  Not sure what is different now or what I'm doing wrong-I am very new at this and any help is greatly appreciated.

How is your iPod configured to sync music? In other words, what options and configurations do you have enabled from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs in iTunes?
Maybe have a look at this article as well to verify your iPod is set up for syncing music.

  • Itunes won't open after 2.0 update and ipod says sync in progress

I have downloaded the ipod 2.0 update after hours of trying, it did what it was supposed to, then it got to "resotring back-up files to ipod touch" , the little progress bar showed up, now itunes is in the toolbar on the bottom, my ipod says sync in progress and it has been like that for more than 20 minutes.
I have windows XP, and the task manager says it isnt responding.
WHat do i do? i dont wanna lose everything i had..
    Thanks in advance

I am having the same problem - I upgraded to iTunes 6.0 and now I cannot open iTunes or Quicktime. Any ideas?

  • Please help! My itunes just stops during sync, but says "Sync In Progress"

Ok I've tried syncing my iphone to itunes and it just says Sync in Progress. It never stops. Now it makes it through the "Backing up iPhone" portion but as soon as it gets to syncing contacts, it just sits there saying its "Syncing contacts with "iphone"". Now Im not sure why its doing this, this just happened out of nowhere, so I've even restored the phone twice, once as a new phone and then again with the option it left from restoring it the first time. It syncs the music, apps, and videos when I uncheck everything in the Info tab, such as contacts, calendar, etc. So its something to do with everything in the Info tab. But how do i fix this problem?? =\

It sounds like when replacing the hard drive for whatever reason your contacts were not loaded on your new drive.  Syncing the device does not put contacts on your drive.
If you still have the old drive, you could reinstall it and export the contacts from whatever contact management app you use, then remove the old drive and reinstall the new drive, importing the contacts back into your contact management app.
If you have your contacts backed up elsewhere, that would be the simplest solution.  Simply restore them or import them back into your contact management app.
Personally, I would not trust the iTunes backup as a solution for keeping my contacts.  I choose to use MobileMe and Google contacts to provide backups and sync points for my contacts.

  • Lockscreen message won't change to "Sync in Progress" when syncing

Since today, I tried to sync my iPhone 4 with iTunes 10.2 on my Mac, but my iPhone 4's lockscreen wouldn't change it's message from current time & date to "Sync in Progress", interestingly it's still can be synced and I could unlock my iPhone but couldn't lock my iPhone again during syncing. I tried to restart both Mac and iPhone 4 but it didn't solve the problem.
    How's that happening?
    What is the problem here?

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Sync in Progress screen is blank

Not sure if this is an issue or not but recently when I've been syncing my 3G iPhone the Sync in Progress screen shows but there is no battery graphic displayed underneath it as there usually has been in the past. Is this an issue anyone else has encountered and should I be concerned?
    Thanks.

I am having the same exact problem. My phone is not showing "Sync in Progress" but my computer is. Applications are being installed while i am doing things on my iPhone as I am typing this.
Now iTunes is not showing at the top that it is syncing with my iPhone, but on the left had side under devices, it shows the spinning wheel that means it is syncing.
This all started when i clicked cancel sync.
    Any Luck?

  • Sync in Progress...FOREVER

My iPhone says sync in progress forever. I literally left it plugged in to "sync" for 5 hours and it never finished. What is the issue? How can I fix it?
I have done plenty of syncs before with my iPhone and they have gone fast. Since installing iTunes 9.2 the sync will take forever and a day. Please help, my patience is running low.

For me, this problem started with Mavericks.

  • "Sync In Progress" during music playback on computer?

I have my iPhone 3GS plugged into my computer to play its music through iTunes.
Why does the iPhone show the "Sync In Progress" screen almost every time I skip a song (shows the spinning arrows in iTunes as well)? It's not a huge deal, but it seems to occasionally slow down the skipping of songs and sometimes freezes iTunes. It's frustrating to try and skip a song and end up having to wait longer than normal or have to force quit and restart.
Why is it syncing for almost every song skip?

I'm also having this problem, and have for a while: whenever my iPhone is connected to my computer and I'm in iTunes listening to songs, whenever I want to skip to another song iTunes freezes and my iPhone shows a "Sync in Progress" menu, and I'm unable to do anything until it's done, which sometimes takes only a few seconds (still annoying, though) but other times can take 15-20 seconds.
I've had auto-sync disabled in iTunes from the get-go, since my music collection is far larger than the amount of room on my iPhone or iPod, so I manually manage everything.
Can I do anything to fix this? It's really annoying to have the system freeze every time I play a song to see if I want to keep it on there or delete it.

  • Invisible corrupted music files / progressive problem

I just discovered I have a growing corruption problem in iTunes. It seems to be affecting only songs which I have created myself from my own commercial CDs. Sons acquired over the internet are not affected.
All of my songs show up in the master list on iTunes. I am syncing to a 1st generation 4gig Nano. I am at the capacity limit or within 25 mgs below the limit. I recently realized that I wasn't listening to some of my music & I thought that was odd. I then discovered that the songs are invisible & cannot be accessed on the Nano.
I removed the songs from iTunes & trashed the files. I tried to recreate the songs again from the original comercial CD. I again found out I could not sync them to the Nano. The message I recieved was that the songs in selected playlists could not be added because they exceeded the storage amount on the Nano. iTunes indicated the total storage amount on the Library was at 3.75mgs at this point.
I found that if I deleted them again & synced, I could. So far so good.
Now I have found that even after going through the ENTIRE library and trashing every single file that appeared in the library but did not show up on my Nano, this problem is a progressive problem & is converting what I thought to be safe files into corrupted files.
What can I do about this? I am now spending 1 hr each time I want to sync & is becoming a night mare.
I also considered trashing iTunes & reinstalling, but I
    a) cannot find the root application on the HD
    b) cannot find the original iTunes older (not 7.02) application anywhere.

Have you done the '5 R's' to your Nano? http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
FYI - the Nano will not actually hold 4 gig - it will be a little less - but you knew that.
All tunes on the Nano/iPod are 'invisible' by default when viewed via the Finder. You can view the files by using a program that will show you invisible files such as TinkerTool.
Your iTunes app should be in the Applications folder. If not then do a Spotlight search of your HD.
To find older versions of iTunes go here http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php
You will need to remove from the HD>Library>Receipts>iTunesX.pkg - move the iTunesX.pkg to the trash along with the iTunes app.

  • I can't sync my iphone to my computer. when i connect to the computer it says 'sync in progress' and on computer it says 'backing up your iphone' but that goes on forever and nothing happens....what to do?

I am having trouble syncing my Iphone to the computer. Everytime I connect it....it says 'sync in progress' and on Itunes it says 'backing up in progress' but nothing really happens. It goes on forever...I end up disconnecting......please advise.

If you ever want to cut down on back up times eject your SIM card before starting...you should see the over all time go down a noticable amount.
Disclaimer: this does not mean that it will zip like lightning, just move faster than it dies with the card in...
let me know what you see happen.

I have been syncing outlook calendar and contacts from my PC to my iPhone with no problems. I have version 1.1.2 on my iPhone and 7.5 or whatever the latest is on iTunes software. The syncs were fine until recently and now I cant sync and get an error message that says "outlook sync client encountered problem" What could possibly have happened....I read some posts that say to go back to iTunes 7.3 etc....this has to be a common problem....any suggestions.

  • How do I sync game progress between iphone and ipad

I have several  "long term progress" games on my iphone 5.I bought an ipad mini and would like to sync the progress of each game on both devises.I have have game game progress erased in the past, possible from incorrect procedure.
What is the best was to sync devises. I was told at the Apple store to sign in each game with Facebook and the progress would then be the same on either devise. Any proven methods that work ?

    Hey Lkr100,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to sync calendar events between your iPhone and iPad (3rd gen). I would recommend using iCloud, which you can read about here:

  • Syncing and Charging Problem with 1st gen iPod nano

I purchased a 1st generation iPod nano via eBay about 3 months ago and have developed an interesting syncing and charging problem.  When I plug the nano to my iMac, frequently neither the computer nor iTunes will recognize it.  I have done "the five R's" with occasional success.  I've tried jiggling the cable in the computer port and sometimes it works in getting iTunes to recognize the nano, sometimes it doesn't.  Even when I am able to get iTunes to recognize the nano, I have frequently found that the nano hasn't charged up at all.  In fact, a couple of times I found it almost totally drained of power after having been connected to my computer.  Yes, I have the most recent version of iTunes installed on my iMac and my iMac, by the way, is relatively new - having been purchased in May of this year.  What is interesting is that I've taken my nano to work and it has absolutely no problem charging up on my Dell (yuk!).  For the record, I do not have iTunes installed on my work computer and I am not allowed to add any apps to my work computer without the consent of my supervisor.  The chances of getting iTunes installed on my Dell at work are pretty much nil.  Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

I bought a new USB dock connector and hoped, with fingers and toes crossed, that something positive would happen.  Sure enough, I was able to sync and recharge my old iPod nano.  I guess the original USB dock cable is on its last legs.  Not totally broken, but no longer reliable.  I consider my problem solved!    My thanks to everyone who took the time to read and try to solve my iPod problem.  I greatly appreciate it!
