Sync-ing Library to New Device

My current library is tied to my 5th generation iPod. I'm getting an iPhone 4 tomorrow, and no longer plan on using my iPod. Will I simply be able to open my library, plug in the iPhone, and sync my existing library to the new device? Or will I have to create a whole new library for my new iPhone?

That's what I would've assumed...yet when I began searching for the answer, I found countless articles saying how difficult it is to transfer music to a new device and touting the need for third-party software to get it done. Got me concerned it was going to be a more difficult process that I planned on. I presume third party software is only needed for those not using or wanting to use iTunes on their PC?

I don't know how to transfer my music library to my new device.  I have just purchased an iPod classic

"Transferring library" term is usually used with computers, If you still have old classic, you also should have computer that content came from. Once you connect your new classic to that computer- all your library will sync automatically (after registration). If you do not have computer, then it may present a bit of a problem, because as far as I know, Apple's way allows you to transfer only purchased in itunes store content - instructions in link below and you still going to need a computer. If you search these forums and Google, you will find multiple guides on using nonApple solutions. Please try to check references for those.

  • Sync old library to new

Hi. I have an iPod that I used with PC/iTunes for PC. I have a new Mac, set up iTunes, bought some music and realized my library didn't transfer. So I hooked up my iPod and had to open the old library. The problem is now I have two libraries and I'd like them to be one. How do I do this without losing my music??

    Tinay,
Photos on the iPhone will only sync one direction. If you originally synced the photos from your old computer, they will not be able to sync back to your new computer. Any pictures that you have taken with the iPhone will be able to sync back to your new computer, however.
Here is an article that explains the different ways the iPhone syncs with your computer:

    Hope this helps,

  • Syncing my library onto other devices

I have an Ipod Touch with 3.1.3 on it.. I have an Ipad2 with the latest IOS.  I have a nano also.
I want to take my libraries.. I have more than one on different computers .. and put everything on my IPAD..
How do I do that?  How do I tell the I-Pad to just receive the stuff it doesn't have and not overrite everything?

The most straightforward way is to get all the iTunes content on ONE computer, then sync the iPad to that computer's iTunes library.  For most iTunes Store content, including Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, and Books, you can now re-download previous purchases to any computer that is associated with your Apple ID.  For music and other media content that did not come from the iTunes Store, you can transfer it from one computer to the "master" computer using an external drive, flash drive, or network (file sharing) connection.  Once everything is set up in iTunes on one computer, set up how you want to sync, and sync the iPad.
With iOS 5 and iCloud, an iPad can act as an independent computer (instead of syncing).  iCloud is free.  For music, if you subscribe to the optional iTunes Match service ($25 per year), your music will become available on any supported computer or device (up to 10 can be associated with your Apple ID) through iCloud.  So, you don't have to sync with a wired connection, and take up valuable space on your iPad with the entire music library.  The iPad will download "on demand" any song in your library that you want to hear (that is not already stored on the iPad) from the Internet through iCloud.
An older iPod touch with 3.1.3 and iPod nano are not supported for iCloud, but you can continue to sync them directly from your computer using the docking cable.  So it is still beneficial to consolidate all of your iTunes content onto one computer.

  • Will sync-ing iPad to new Macbook lose files other than music files?

I bought my first Macbook (first Mac laptop, and first Mac in over a decade) a few months ago and have been a little reluctant to sync my iPad to it. Will I lose anything other than my iTunes files? e.g. Will my Pages files or iBooks or Kindle files disappear? What will happen to my apps? My hard drive crashed late last year and I have lost some things that I won't be getting back, so I just want to make sure that when I do sync I'm doing it with full knowledge of what's going to happen. (i.e. I can try emailing all of my Pages docs to myself first.)
Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Syncing existing Library with new computer.

I recently bought a new computer and installed iTunes hoping to transfer my music library from my old computer to my new. When I connect my iPod to my new computer it says that it is already synced with another Library. Is there any way to override this and transfer all of my music to the new computer? It would be a real annoyance if I have to rip 50gigs of music onto my new computer. Thanks!

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • SYNCING OLD LIBRARY TO NEW ITUNES

recently had our computer guy clean up our laptop and im getting a popup that reads "you're ipod is synced with another itunes library. do you want to erase this ipos and sync with this itunes library. An ipos can only be synced with one itunes library at a time. erasing and syncing relpaces the contents of this ipos with the contents of this itunes library" My options are to erase and sync or cancel. Does that mean I am going to lose the songs i already have in there because the new itunes is empty? help!

You want to get everything off the iPod and back into your new iTunes library.

  • How do I sync game scores to new device?

Game Center shows scores and achievements for the games I migrated to my new iPhone 5c, but the games boot up without them, as if brand new. How can I get them to acknowledge the Game Center data?
Sideline: Why does Apple permit bogus high scores in Game Center? That hack must be 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 years old.

    Hi Sonnyboy89,
I am a little unclear as to what you are trying to do with Game Center on the iPads, but you can enter each user’s Apple ID in Game Center on their device using the steps in this article -

  • IOS 6 Gamecenter ID did not require email address. iOS 7 does, how do I sync Game Center on new device

My kid's have 3 iPod Touch's, 4th gen running iOS 6. We all share one Apple ID for purchases, but they each have their own Game Center ID. iOS6 Game Center DID NOT require an email address to use. Now I have bought them all iPad mini's that are running iOS 7. iOS7 REQUIRES an Apple ID to use. How do I import their Game Center info onto the Mini's?

  • HT4913 sync entire library to IOS device

Is there a way to download all of the music stored on the iCloud to an iPhone withouth having to download albums or tracks individually?

If you go into the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app and select Music, tap on 'Not on This iPhone', then 'All Songs', and you should then get a screen with all of the songs that aren't on your iPhone with a Download All button at the top right of the screen - or you can select an artist instead of 'All Songs' and then 'Download all' if you just want to download a particular artist.

  • Reinstall MI Client with new device ID

    Hi guys,
In MI 7.0 I removed a device ID and uninstalled the client.
After reinstallation, I created same user locally and after first sync I received a new device ID.
Then I assigned the xAPPL to the device ID and run new sync.
After sucessfully instalation the old device ID is assigned back to the device.
Therefore I cannot perform any sync since the old device ID has been removed from the server.
    Any tips?
    Regards,
    Renato

    Hi Oliver,
As feedback I found the cause of the problem. Since I'm installing the pilot client in a Windows Vista laptop, program files were installed in:
    C:/Program Files/SAP Mobile Infrastructure
I don't know why, when you start the application, these files are
    transfered to:
    C:\Users\<my user>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SAP Mobile Infrastructure
All time I was uninstalling the MI client, only the C:\Program Files\SAP Mobile Infrastructure were being deleted, but not the other route.
After uninstalling the application I manually deleted the other route.
With new installation, the aplication received a new device ID and it was not assigned automatically to the old one.
    Best regards,
    Renato
