Sync iPhone to Address Book

I messed up and lost all my contacts from my Address Book. I have all my contacts on my iPhone and want to sync them back to Address Book. Can this be done?
This is my only copy so if I mess this up....

Out of curiosity, in what way did you mess up that caused you to lose all your Mac's Address Book contacts?
The iPhone's sync function for Address Book contacts is bidirectional so this should work but there is always a chance something can go wrong with the sync process which is why maintaining a backup of such data is important.
You need to have a least one contact available in your Mac's Address Book so if one is not currently available and your Mac's Address Book is completely empty, you need to enter at least one contract before syncing.

  • Question about syncing iPhone and Address book

I recently deleted some unwanted and outdated contact information from my address book on my computer. It synced correctly to my iPhone, but did not prompt me about the lost contact information. I also added one or two new contacts to my iPhone but when synced, it did not transfer these to the address book. Does one device take precedence over the other? Is there a way to set the preferences to prompt me before it deletes contacts from my iPhone? Thanks!

Ah, never mind. I'll give up on this thread and bug my IT guy instead.

  • IPhone not syncing Contacts to Address Book

I noticed that my iPhone (both original iPhone and iPhone 3G) was not syncing contacts with Address Book. I tried to Reset Sync History in iSync, and when I have tried to replace the contacts on iPhone under the Advanced options, I lose all my contacts on the iPhone!
The only way to get some contacts back is restoring from backup, but unfortunately as iTunes performs a backup of the iPhone on sync, these backups also have no contacts! I have an old backup that fortunately has not been overwritten but the contact list is a bit out of date.
Address Book on the Mac seems to be fine and this is backed up.
It would appear that iTunes has somehow lost its "connection" to Address Book, which is why when I chose to replace the Contacts on the iPhone with the information on the computer I lost them all!
iCal still seems to sync fine with Calendar.
Can I re-link Address Book with iTunes?

    Hey lim_my,
Are contacts syncing with MobileMe or any other applications?
    I don't have MobileMe.
Now you mention it, Address Book did not appear to even update if I updated a contact in Mail.
Can you sync contacts in another User account? to create another user account goto System Preferences> Accounts> click the lock to make changes> click the + button to add another user account.
Yes I can! I only tried to sync Contacts, leaving all other options i.e Calendars Bookmarks Ringtones Music Videos Applications untouched, and now I have some test Contacts on the iPhone.
You can try Resetting the SyncServices folder, Just follow the steps in this article to stop the service and then delete the SyncServices folder in your user library.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
I had tried this before, within iSync, which did not work. I then tried the command in Terminal as per the above link, then went and deleted the /user/Library/ Sync Services folder. Still no joy.
So it looks as though I have a broken Address Book rather than iTunes. Should I post this in the OS X Leopard section of Discussions?

  • IPhone 4 address book won't sync with MacBook Air

I've been Googlin' my butt off, and called support three times (in which they won't help me because they say it's an iPhone issue)... Anyway, just purchased a MacBook Air; and my iPhone contacts will not sync with the address book.
Any help would be amazing.  Thank you very much!

    Hey,
So I kept looking for another answer and found this answer in another thread:
"It is called "sync" for the reason it not called a transfer.  It wants and is designed to "sync" make each other match.  If it deleted all on the phone it is because you just had zero contacts in the address book on the computer (which on first sync is considered master copy).  If you put one dummy contact into address book on computer then try to sync it will see it needs to "merge" to get the sync process coordinated."
I tried it out and it worked.  I originally already had one contact in my address book, but it was me and apparently I don't count as a human being, so I added the dummy contact and it worked after I clicked 'Merge'. Hope it works for you too.

  • Iphone does not sync with Yahoo Address Book

Hi My iPhone does not sync with Yahoo Address book. iTunes comes back with an error
"iTunes could not sync with Yahoo Address Book.Because an Internet connection not available"
This make no sense as I am conected to the internet. iTunes can acess the iTunes Store without a problem. I can also access the Web.
    Any ideas?

I ran into this problem just within the past couple of weeks.  I found someting on another discussion group on the net about someone with the same problem.  They said that it was because one of their notes was too long.
I looked at my notes and wouldn't you know it, I created a couple of extra long notes a couple of weeks ago!  I deleted them and I am able to sync without errors again.  I didn't know there was a size limit for a note on the iphone.
PS.  I have an iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1, iTunes 10.6.3.25

  • Sync a non iPhone with address book

I love my iPhone and got a second non iPhone phone for my wife (she gets my Nano now and this iPhone when new ones come out). Hers is a $200 Samsung and it is murder to do anything on it compared to the iPhone. I want to get a phone that will sync with my address book and is easy to use if there is such a thing besides the iPhone. Any suggestions?

Almost any phone with Bluetooth will sync with the Mac Address Book (and iCal) via iSync. Here's one list of supported phones:

  • IPhone to address book sync problem - bidirectional?

I have just bought a Mac and I want to sync all my contacts from my iPhone into Address Book.
When I went into iTunes and ticked Sync Address Book contacts, the one contact I had in Address Book appeared on my iPhone, but none of my iPhone contacts were in Address Book. I thought the sync was supposed to be bidirectional? I am new Mac user, I am just doing something stupid?

    OK, do this:
Launch isync from your applications folder, make sure itunes is NOT running. In isync, under preferences, click reset sync history. Give it a minute to run, then reboot your computer. Launch itunes, under preferences, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC, control click the phone in the device pane & select reset warnings. On the info tab, make sure there are checks in the boxes labeled "Sync Address Book Contacts" & "Sync all Contacts". Once this is done & confirmed, sync. This should regenerate the merge or replace prompt, select merge.

  • IPhone and Address Book sync issue

I have an iPhone 3G (bought 7/08). Been a Mac user 13 years. "Mail" email is syncing fine. Address Book and iCal not so much.
When I updgraded to 3.0 a few months ago, most of my iCal events became doubled - meaning each event was repeated. Anyone know why or how to fix it?
And the same with my Address Book. If I choose "All Contacts" from the "Groups" folder, I get double entries. If I choose "All from My Mac" from the "Groups" folder, I get single entries. And neither the new entries from my Mac (MacBook Pro) or the iPhone update on the other A glitch with 3.0? Like I said, "Mail" (my .me account), is fine, iCal is updating through the "cloud", but I get double entries from everything that was already in my Calender before the upgrade. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Since you are syncing contacts over the air with your MobileMe account and syncing contacts direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process is the reason why your contacts are duplicated on your iPhone. Assuming you are syncing contacts with the Address Book on your Mac with your MobileMe online address book, any contact that you entered on your iPhone should be available with your MobileMe online address book.
Check your MobileMe online address book to confirm all contacts are available there.
If so, deselect sync contacts direct with the Address Book on your Mac under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select Apply.
On your iPhone, go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. This will erase all contacts downloaded from your MobileMe online address book, but it won't delete contacts that were transferred direct from the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.
Wait a minute or two for the online contacts to be deleted.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.
    The duplicates will be eliminated.

  • How do i import contacts from iPhone to address book?

how do i import contacts from iphone to address book?

Ok, I knew it was a long shot.  The merge prompt normally is only available when you first sync your device.  I'm not sure how things got out of sync in the first place, but you may have to manually delete the contacts from your phone that you don't want there at this point.  I would try adding a new contact on your phone followed by sync to confirm that it's picking up new contacts though.
Unfortunately I need to go now, so if you're still having problems I suggest your start a new post in the forum to see if someone else can help.  Good luck!

  • Sync. problem with Address Book

    Dear all,
I had a sync problem between my iPhone and the Mac Address Book, when I update some contacts with a picture and then when I try to sync iPhone the contacts came without the picture.
I add some pics from the iPhone to the iPhone contact and try to sync and it was working.
Is it only one sync or we should be able to do that from Address Book to iPhone and iPhone to Address Book.
    Thanks for your advice.
    Regards
    Florian

    Hi...
First, sorry about my, english... rsss
To repair this problem, you need make some steps:
    0. Backup your adress book first anything.
    1. Create a new Folder, put group per group of your adress book inside.
    2. Close Itunes and Adress Book
    3. Put the Isync preferences, inside system preferences to "Manually".
    4. Delete all inside the: ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
    5. Open Adress Book, that is empty.
    6. Create your first group, and click in the correspondent group inside the folder created.
    7. After put all contact back, use Itunes that is ok now....

  • How to i get my contacts on my phone to sync into my address book on my macbook?

i synced my phone to my macbook and the newer contacts wont show up in the addressbook on the laptop. how do i make them sync to the address book from my phone?

What Operating System is your Macbook running? If it's Lion, then you can go into the iCloud control panel in System Preferences, sign in with your Apple ID, and check "Contacts". Then it should sync with your iPhone contacts.
Oh, and make sure your phone is set up with iCloud as well. Of course, only if your Mac is running Lion.

  • Copy contacts from iPhone to Address Book in Outlook

    Hi there,
I'm asking to see whether it's possible to copy contacts from an iPhone to the Address Book in Outlook, reason why I ask is that I am trying to help my Managing Director with his wife's Outlook issue as described in the following link http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/outlook-cont acts-wont-display-in-address-book/e7c919cd-3e68-4cab-9b21-4e0080827e21?tm=142262 7591302, if so please could you either instruct me on how to do this or to point me to some references on how to go about this.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim

I have the same problem, sort of. When syncing iPhone with Windows Address Book, address entries that have more than one email address, get synced with only one email address. My only work around was to switch syncing address books from Windows Address Book to Outlook 2003. Now that iTunes 4 had messed up iPhone syncs with Outlook 2003's I've done one final sync with Windows Address Book, turn off the sync address feature in the sync window, and manually updated my address entries manually on the iPhone. I hope that Apple fixes this issue with Outlook 2003 soon, cause this is not why I shelled out $599 for a Treo upgrade!

  • Entourage Sync with iCal & Address Book - Fixed!

Finally found a solution that really works.
    Background
I had the infamous issue of trying to get Entourage Calendar and Contacts to Sync with iCal & Address book for the purpose of syncing with iTunes on my iPhone.
I've had most of the symptoms listed on this site.
It only syncs one way, Entourage Calendar shows up in iCal, but it's blank, Entourage Calendar does not show up at all in iCal, but contacts show up in Address book.
I've read nearly every post about it and tried all the various fixes listed, but none of them worked, or at least not consistently.
    My setup:
OS X 10.5.5 MacBook Pro (latest updates)
    Entourage 2004 (latest patches)
(If your using Mobile me, log out before you do this)
Here's what you'll need to do:
    1. Backup your Main Identity which contains all your entourage info, email, contacts, calendars, etc. (Just in case you goof something up)
It's located in your home user account ~User/youraccount/documents/Microsoft User Data (Backup this whole folder)
If you don't know all your email credentials such as username, password, smtp, pop info, jott it down as it will save you some time later.
    2. Launch Entourage and uncheck the Sync Services. Quit Entourage and all Office Apps.
Also you should archive all your entourage data if you want to copy it to the new setup.
Archive the contacts and Calendar Events separately.
    3. Launch iCal and manually delete the Entourage Calendar (if present) Quit iCal.
    4. Now open your documents folder and locate the folder named Microsoft User Data and rename the folder to Microsoft User Data Original
    5. Create a new OS X User from the System Preferences... Accounts
    6. Logoff your current user account and login to your new user account.
    7. Launch Entourage and enter your email info.
    8. Now create a single calendar event.
    9. Go to Entourage Preferences, and check the Sync Services. (click OK, etc.)
    10. Wait 5 minutes, then launch iCal and you will see the Entourage Calendar with your single event.
You should also see your contact that was created when you setup email in the Address Book.
If this worked you've isolated the syncing problem to a corrupt file in your user account or corrupt data in your entourage account.
You can go back to your original user account and delete all the info from entourage to see if you had corrupt data in entourage, (youd did back it up first, right?) or you can follow the procedures below to move all your stuff over to the new login account.
Now you'll need to migrate your data from your Old login account to your new login account.
(I've tried just moving the new Entourage identity back to the old account, and it didn't always work)
The easiest way to move data between accounts is to login as root.
To enable the root user, Go to Utilities, Directory Utility, and under the edit menu, select enable root user, enter a unique password, later you can disable root login when your all done)
Logout of your new login and login as root with the new password you just created
When it prompts for a username type "root". If you don't have that option click the Other login and then type in root as the username and the new password.
Once your logged in as root, be careful as you can pretty much trash anything without any warnings.
Now Open your original user folder located in ~User/youraccount as well as the new user you just created
    (not the root account)
Open the folders side by side and drag the contents from old to new:
    Desktop
    Documents
    iTunes
    Movies
    Music
plus any other info you need.
Log back into your new user account, and run a repair permissions from disk utility.
Launch Entourage and enter a new event and contact. Then wait a few minutes and verify that it made it over to iCal & Address book.
If it did, and it should have, you can then import your entourage archives, do contacts first, then wait a few minutes and verify it shows up in Address Book, then do your Calendar events and verify.
When everything is syncing between entourage and iCal/Address Book you can connect your iPhone and enable syncing.
    A few important notes:
-If you have Years worth of Calendar Items in entourage, you will most likely run into problems, so archive your old Events and only restore that which you need.
-You may also need to retrieve old application preferences.
-Once your sure you've got everything, you can delete the Microsoft User Data Original folder that we renamed and put in your Documents Folder.
    Hope this helps somebody out.

Entourage calendar does not sync as you are expecting, with iCal.
Turn your Entourage sync services on (to sync your calendar) and you will notice in iCal a new calendar on the left, called Entourage. Mind has a purple color to it, for example.
Now, in iCal, create a new appointment and assign it TO the Entourage calendar. Now sync, and hey presto it shows up in Entourage.
This is by design, Entourage does not sync ALL of your iCal calendars, it will only sync the Entourage calendar which is created in iCal.
For example, I have Home, Work, Personal and Entourage calendars in iCal - appointments I make with my Home, Work or Personal calendar will not appear in Entourage, period. Only appointments made in iCal using the Entourage calendar will appear in Entourage (after a sync).
Likewise, appointments made IN Entourage Calendar, are sync'd to iCal and are only visible if you show the Entourage calendar in iCal - (it's switched ON by default, but can be switched off by un-ticking the calendar in the left pane of iCal).
    Does this make sense?
