Sync iPhoto album & mobileme gallery

Hello! I have a few albums in iPhoto that I want to publish to my mobileme gallery. However, I would like for the albums on mobile me to be automatically updated when I add new photos to my iPhoto albums. So I'm wondering what's the best thing to do: Do I keep my original albums and update the mobile me gallery every time I add photos to the albums? Or do I delete the original albums and use only the published albums? With the first option, I need to update manually(?), with the second option, I lose the album folder structure I currently have... Any thoughts?

Hello Oyvind,
You have outlined your options very well.
1.) Keep the local Albums and the folder structure you created and drag changes from these albums to the MobileMe Gallery Album when you add new pictures.
2.) Get rid of the local Albums and their folder structure and use just the MobileMe Gallery Albums
Those are the only choices I can think of as well. I suppose the question would be, do you make so many changes to your Albums that dragging the changes to the MobileMe Gallery would be so much work?
If you do decide to use only the MobileMe Gallery and get rid of the local Albums, I would highly suggest you keep a regular backup of your computer / iPhoto. And frankly if you care about your information having a backup is essential anyways.
Hope that helps

  • "re-syncing" iphoto with mobileme gallery

Some friends of ours recently uploaded pictures to our mobile me gallery. How do I bring those new photos into an already established iphoto event?

When I select an event and publish it to MobileMe, the MobileMe gallery does not seem to stay linked to my original event. If I add photos to the event they do not sync up to the gallery, and if a user contributes photos it does not go back to my event
We may have a terminology problems here - events do not connect in any way to MobileMe and you can not directly add photos to events - importing photos into iPhoto will create a new event - it is not possible to import photos into an existing event
When you create a MobileMe gallery it appears as a web gallery in the source pane to the left and anything you add to that gallery in iPhoto will be synced to MobileMe based on how you have your syncing preferences set
I do not have any uploaded photos so have not used that feature but I believe that you just look in the web gallery in the source pane of iPhoto and drag the photos you want to the iPhoto library window or select them and create a new event form selection

  • IPhoto 11 & MobileMe Gallery

    iPhoto 11 + MobileMe Gallery.
All the iPhoto Albums are shared (synced) with Me Gallery.
I'd like to know what is the best way to have all the changes synced.
For example, when I make changes in an album (add or delete photos) I' d like to have the changes also appear on Me gallery.

I am not happy. I hope the guy who wrote the new codes will just talk with the people who wrote the iPhoto 9 codes and also talk with the guys who wrote the MobileMe Gallery codes. It gives people the impression that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. This may affect the Apple stock price. Wonder if Steve is aware of the problem; does he use iPhoto 11 and MobileMe; does he permit it; and what is he doing about it. This has been taking way too long to resolve.

  • Syncing iphoto albums with a mobileme gallery

How do I sync a iphoto album with a mobileme gallery?
When I update the album in iphoto, it doesn't update on the gallery on MM.
    Thanks !!

If you update the web gallery album it updates the web (do not do an update during an update - this still can cause problems)
I will request a host move this thread to the iPhoto '08 forum

  • IPhoto 09 MobileMe Gallery Sync

    Friends,
I apologize if this has already been asked. I have searched and searched and searched and just cannot find an answer.
Here's what I am trying to figure out. I have a decent sized photo library being managed by iPhoto 09. I have diligently organized everything into events and take advantage of every iPhoto feature I can. One need I have is to allow family members the ability to upload new photos to my library.
I have tried publishing my events to the MobileMe Gallery and allowing uploads but there are a few problems with this scenario. First, I have hundreds of events and want to publish all of them. So far as I can tell, I must publish each of them one by one. Second, while the upload works, the new photos go to the "MobileMe Gallery" section in iPhoto. I want them synced all the way back to the source event. I know I can copy them over, but again, I have hundreds of events. It would be an impossible and completely manual process with which to manage.
I've tried this with Flickr too but the iPhoto integration works much the same as the MobileMe gallery. I don't care what technologies are in play. I just really want to be able to allow photos to be uploaded to me somehow and have them automagically find their way back into the proper event in iPhoto.
I can't imagine this is a unique requirement. How do others allow family and friends to contribute photos while still being able to organize everything in iPhoto in an effective way?
    Rick

Simply, this is not a feature at this time.

  • Portrait oriented photos are not sync'ed to MobileMe gallery

I've tried to upload some pictures of an event to my MobileMe account:
I've selected the photos, clicked on MobileMe and selected the option to allow downloads.
The photos get synced but those photos that were originally taken in portrait mode (and autorotated by the camera or iPhoto) didn't show up in my MobileMe gallery! Also, those missing photos are still flagged as "not yet sync'ed" in the iPhoto preview of the shared gallery. If I disable the option to allow downloads, all photos are uploaded correctly.
Interestingly, it does not help to rotate the portrait photos to landscape mode, they still don't get synced. And landscaped photos that are rotated to portrait are synced normally. It only affects those photos that were originally taken in portrait mode.
(In case it helps: I used a Canon EOS 450D to take those pictures.)
    Best regards,
    RaCha

    RaCha2:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There should be no problem using autorotated photos in a web gallery. This test gallery is composed entirely of auto-rotated photos from a Canon SD700 and all uploaded and displayed as expected. .
First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and publish again. Next, if needed, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
You don't want to convert to gifs as they only support 256 colors and would make your photo look poorly.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto Journals = MobileMe Gallery Replacement?

    Hi,
This afternoon I down loaded the iPhoto for iOS and was able to export a journal to iCloud.
I also added the rascal to my "Home Page" and mailed the url to myself.
Viewing the url shows all of the journals and clicking on one shows the pictures.
It appears to me that this basically allows one to replace the MobileMe Gallery's by a Collection
of Journals stored in the 'Home Page".
    A couple of questions:
    1) What the heck is the "Home Page" that iPhoto for iOS is referring to?
    2) Do these journals count against the five gig quota for iCloud?
    3) Why can't iPhoto for the Mac do the same thing ie create 'journals' that can be stored
        directly on the 'Home Page'?
    Thanks...
    Jerry

If you create new Journal and add it to "Home Page", you will see in Safari (IE, Mozila, etc), that you can navigate to your "Home Page" from the Journal and this "Album" will also appear in your Home Page. On the other site, if you don't add the new journal to your home Page, you won't see it there and you will not be able to navigate to your Home page from this Journal.
So if you wan't to send some picture to somebody, but you don't want him to be able to access your other pictures, so don't add it to your Home Page...

  • IPhoto and MobileMe gallery

Since switching from MobileMe to iCloud I am unable to add a new album to my MobileMe gallery. If I do add a new album it is removed almost immediately.
I am also unable to 'share' it from MobileMe gallery before it is removed automatically almost immediately it is put on.
Could anybody explain why and how to fix this problem.

I would like to add to this thread.  Same problems with updating to the iPhoto 11 and the "cloud".  The photo's taken on my iPhone are displaying in my "Photo Stream", I add the photo's I want from the Photo stream to my iPhoto library stored locally, and then publish the album to mobile me.
Problem is, as soon as the seldected photo's are published to mobile me I go to the "web" pane on iPhoto in order to send an email to my friends that a new album is posted.  As soon as I select "web" on the right hand selection pane in iPhoto 11, I receive the following:
iPhoto displays "The published album has been removed from Mobile me".
The album is saved from photo stream to my iPhoto album, but the selected photo's will not publish to mobile me.  This is a problem with apples new Lion OS and iPhoto 11.  One more example of how Apple has rolled out new products that are not ready.  I moved from PC to Mac 10 years ago because of this same problem with PC software, now Apple has lost its way and is putting new software on the market that just doesn't work and I suspect the OS will become irrelevant agian if the company doesn't focus on what drew customers to their platform.  So disappointed with Apple again...its becoming very common.

  • Syncing events with MobileMe Gallery

When I select an event and publish it to MobileMe, the MobileMe gallery does not seem to stay linked to my original event. If I add photos to the event they do not sync up to the gallery, and if a user contributes photos it does not go back to my event. It appears that this is intentional, so then what do I do about it? I am not sure which photos are added and/or how to import them back into my original event and I am unsure what to add from my original event into the gallery. If I try to keep the two in sync manually it will be very tedious and error prone. Any ideas?

  • Posting movies from iPhoto to MobileMe Gallery

I have a few 5-8 minute videos taken from a pocket Canon camera that I would like to export to my MobileMe Gallery. How do I downsize the video in iPhoto before I publish the album to the gallery? Right now a subscriber to the gallery has to painfully wait for these video's to load up/stream. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Cliff:
In QT Pro try the File->Export for Web option and then select Desktop. That will produce a folder with several files in it. The one you want to use is the one with the .m4v extension. Check the resulting size of that file and see if it's been reduced enough to make it useable.
I just tried it on a small test movie of 704 KB and it was reduced to 132KB.

  • Syncing iPhoto albums to iPhone 4-is there a limit to number of photos in album

I was able to sync a small album with 69 photos from iPhoto to the iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.5 without a problem. First I synced it as "Last Import" with no edits whatsoever, fresh from downloading from the camera, and then I synced as an album with a number of edits. No problem. When I try to sync an album with about 1100 photos in, only about a quarter of the photos are synced. This not a problem with my first generation 8GB iPod Touch running iOS 3.1.3. What gives?

Same problem!  I have 530 pics in one Album - but when I sync my to my iPhone 4 - only 56 of the pics are transferred.  I have done a full Restore on the iPhone and Rebuilt the database on iPhoto.  This appears to be happening only since Lion 10.7.1.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    AK

  • Problem with Aperture not syncing iPhoto albums to iPad

Want to sync a few choice old photo albums created in iPhoto to my iPad.    Since I am now running that old iPhoto library in Aperture I should be able to sync selected albums via iTunes, Aperture and USB.
I looked at iTune's photo sync screen and saw that iTunes still distinquishes between iPhoto and Aperture libraries, i.e. one needs to make a choice.
I selected Aperature in the "Sync Photos from" popup and got the following err message:
"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications."
My iPhoto/Aperture libary easily opened again in Aperture but for the life of me I can not see a preference provision for previewing Aperture albums in anything other than iLife and iWork which was already enabled.
Perhaps Apple is a bit slow in upgrading the detail in their latest Aperture version or are simply screwing people who favor syncing well chosen albums on their iPad in lieu of using iCloud which would require a lot of extra redundant effort to recreate favorite albums so much more easily created in iPhoto/Aperature.

I was experiencing this exact same problem for days and none of the fixes I have found have worked for me, including the one listed here. Only un-installing Aperture allowed me to again sync my iPhoto albums individually again to my iPad2/iPhone4S. Even after re-generating the library for previews/thumbnails, as other posts have suggested to do in Aperture, I still could not see the option to select individual iPhoto Albums as it was greyed out in iTunes.
So here is the simple and odd fix that has just worked for me. When iTunes tells you: "Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications." Do just the opposite. In Aperture Preferences under Preview, with the dropdown after Share Previews with iLife and iWork: select NEVER.
Now if when you open iTunes again, and your option to select individual folders is still greyed out (as happened to me on occastion clearly) do this. Uncheck Sync Photos from iPhoto, select Keep Photos or not depending on what you want and then quit iTunes and DON'T APPLY changes. When you restart iTunes, you should now be able to select individual iPhoto albums.
I realize this doesn't give you options with syncing Aperture Projects, but hey, hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

  • Sync iPhoto album with iCloud photo stream

I have a couple of albums - used basically as categories.
I want to be able to sync the albums with iCloud. I know you could just add the photos to an iCloud photostream, but it takes a couple extra minutes each time when you do that.
So basically, I want my albums to be copied as iCloud albums, and then just updated automatically when I add a new photo to that album.

Not possible.  Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • IPhoto '09 MobileMe gallery "tell a friend" email not displaying password

It used to be when I clicked on the iPhoto MobileMe Gallery "Tell a Friend" button an email would open and have the username and password.
Now, it shows the username, but the password isn't displaying. Instead it reads PASSWORD.
What happened to make it do this?
How is a friend supposed to know the password if it doesn't display.

Could be a damaged database file in the library. Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
    Launch iPhoto and try again.

  • Syncing iPhoto Albums With My Video iPod

Using OS X.3.9 and iPhoto 6.x:
When I sync iPhoto with my new iPod (video), will I be able to browse the photos on the iPod by the same Album names used in iPhoto? Will the iPod list my Albums?
For example, can I present a slideshow of a certain Album on my iPod, then a totally different Album on the same iPod, etc.?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Connect your iPod and wait for it to be recognized in iTunes.
    Click iTunes > Preferences
    Click the iPod button
Click the photo tab beneath it
You can select to sync your photos from iPhoto
I believe you can also tell it to sync only selected albums, which will enable you to see your photos according to these albums when you browse them on your iPod.
    Hope this is helpful
