Sync iPod and iPhone to same MacBook

i currently have an ipod touch with OS 3.1.2 that sync's calendar & contacts via mobile me, and everything else via USB to itunes on my MacBook Pro.
in two weeks i'll take delivery of an iphone & would then like to keep both this and the ipod touch up to date with contacts, calendar etc.
will there be any problem with synching both the ipod and iphone with itunes on the same laptop ?
and also - would i be correct to assume that i will need to download / buy any apps i want on the new iphone again & that if i sync with itunes it won't transfer everything over from the ipod ?
btw - this is probably irrelevant to these questions, but i also have an MacBook Air synchronised via mobile me but don't connect that MBA to the ipod.
thanks,
mark

You can sync as many ipods and iphones as you like to one computer.
Each is a different device and you can put whatever yo like on each.
You can share the same apps between the two devices - no need to repurchase.

  • Syncing iPod and iPhone to same library

When I purchased my iPhone it connected to the iTunes library I already had for my iPod, however when I tried to connect my iPod to this library it said it was synced to another library. I cut my losses and erased and synced the iPod to the phone library. Ive just purchased some albums from iTunes and synced them to my iPod but now the iPhone keeps saying it is synced to another library and is giving me the option to erase and sync, why is this? I have songs on the phone that I have purchased on iTunes before i had the phone that synced to it but I will lose them if I erase and sync.

You can sync as many iphones and/or ipods as you like to one library.
We have two iphones and three ipods synced to our one library/computer.
The iphone will sync with ONE library/computer at a time. If you sync to a different computer, it will first erase the content from the iphone, then replace with content from the new computer.

  • How to sync ipod touch & iphone on same machine ?

Greetings to all from the Greekislands !
    I'm a new member here,Bought an ipod touch 2nd gen. last year,very happy with it.Just bought an iphone 3gs 32 gb.Even happier...Hands down...iphone rocks !
One question, my ipod touch is 16 gb,my iphone is 32 gb,I already have 20 + gb on iphone....How do i sync both from the same machine ?
    Any info much appreciated !

Each of the panes in iTunes allows you to sync only selected playlists, ringtones, podcasts, movies, photo albums, contact groups, applications, etc. iTunes will treat your iPhone and your iPod as completely separate and distinct devices and you can sync each as you like. The choices you make for your iPod can be the same or completely different from your iPhone choices.
I have over 5800 songs in my iTunes library, but only 1030 of them on my iPhone. I use several playlists and sync my music by choosing to sync selected play lists in the music tab.
Several playlists never change, these are my favorites. I have another playlist that I use to cycle songs on and off the phone. I add and delete songs from this playlist frequently.
If you haven't used playlists before, watch this video tutorial: http://www.apple.com/itunes/tutorials/#video-createplaylists
You can also elect to manually manage your music and videos on your iPhone. Select “Manually manage music and videos” in the iPhone's summary pane in iTunes to turn off automatic syncing in the Music and Video settings panes. See “Manually Managing Content” on page 73 of the manual: http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
I personally think the playlist method is easier, but others prefer the manual method. I prefer not to use the check and uncheck procedure as unchecked songs are ignored by iTunes for most anything.

  • HT4236 Auto Sync ipod and iphone question

I have a iphone and my son has ipod and when ever he gets a new ap it goes to my phone hes 7 and so its alot of crazy things I googled to see how to stop and I came across to go to itunes under edit go tp preferences and then device and check don't allow auto sync between iphone ipod ipad but will that effect my icloud and my sync to itunes when we connect to computer. Thank you for your time

Sounds like you are sharing the same Apple ID for the iTunes Store.
If so, on your iPhone go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads. Turn all off on your iPhone. If your son doesn't want to receive any of your downloads done direct with your iPhone, he needs to do the same on his iPod Touch.
iTunes on your computer includes the same but there is an option under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes to not automatically install new apps in iTunes on your iPhone when syncing.

  • TS1398 I have an ipod and iphone on same computer-is that an issue?

I have an ipod & an iphone. The iphone is mine though and my daughter has the ipod of course for just games and music. I am having issues when I hook up to Itunes, it wanted at first to add all my apps to her ipod & add all her games on mine. So I figured out a solution instead of her using my email address, I set her up one of her own. I also set her up an apple ID & password. Now, my only problem is that it won't let her update her apps without asking for MY email address, even though on her itunes store, it shoes her apple ID as her email address and not mine. So I having hard time dealing with this, it's awful. She has 7 updates ready and cannot download them. Im really upset.
Now on my Iphone, my email address is the same, but, it says my security code on my account is invalid. I've had the same credit card on the account every since I had the phone, never had any problems with it till now. I add another card, and still says any number I add is invalid. So I really do NEED HELP!  I have sent out an email to the App store itself to see if they could help me, but of course that takes 48 hours! I have 6 updates and I can't update mine bec of a security code & hers won't bec of email issues. Any help would be very appreciated! THANKS.

    - Apps are permanently locked to the account that purchased them. You have to log into that account to update the apps. If you have apps that need update from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased form one account. Apps can't be moved form one account to another.
    - For the CC issue, see if this helps:
iTunes Store: My credit card's security code or zip code does not match my bank's records

  • Connecting iPod and iPhone on same computer

    Hi all !
I have an iPhone which I sync with iTunes on my notebook.
My son has an iPod Touch, and he sync it on his own computer.
I want to upgrade his iPod to OS 3.1 but I'm not nuts, I didn't put my payment informations in his iTune.
How can I buy the update with my Apple ID (on my notebook), and give him for installation on his computer ?
I know, I can't compare, but in the past I had big troubles connecting 2 blackberries on the same computer at work. All the data were mixed on both devices, so I prefer not to connect a 2nd device on my notebook.
    Thank you for help

    The answer was simple :
I connected to my son's iTune with my AppleID and bought the update...
For information : Apple told me not to update but "restore and update" to reorganize the iPod

  • Synching with Ipod and Iphone on same account?

I own both an Iphone and an Ipod. Can I connect both to Itunes under my account? Will connecting one affect the other when it is connected?

Hello, I have both an iPhone and an iPod. I wiped out my iTunes library, I believe when I synced my iPhone as I had downloaded new apps for the iPhone. How can I avoid doing this again? I would think that since the device connected to my pc is distinguished for such, the iPhone or iPod, this shouldn't have been a problem. Your advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Syncing ipad and iphone to new macbook pro

I have a pre-intel tower mac that the iphone and ipad are currently synced to.
I want to sync them both now to my new macbook pro. I am unsure about syncing in general as I haven't done it myself yet.
I'm a little worried about loosing data, and wondering what happens to the old tower they are currently synced with.. can I not longer sync them to it once they are synced to the MAcbook pro?
    any tips will be helpful.

Connect to the MacBook. It will ask you if you want to sync with the MacBook. It should then ask if you want to save what is on the iPad. Tell it yes, and it should do so. You should have your iPad apps backed up anyway, but I am pretty sure that you do not lose anything by transferring to another machine. The iPad does not care if it was a Mac or PC that it is synced with, it is not in either format. You do need to go and authorize your Macbook on your iTunes account.
Besides there is a step by step instruction on [How to transfer or sync iPad contents to Mac|http://www.softwarebbs.com/wiki/Howto_transfer_or_sync_iPad_contents_toMac].
Hope it can do you a favor.

  • Syncing IPad and IPhone on same account

I was setting an IPad up on Itunes for the first time. I was told that the user did not have an apple accout so clicked New User in ITunes. After I did this and setup the account my friends spouse does have an apple account with an Iphone. The apps on the Iphone syncs to Ttunes but when I plug the Ipad in the apps will not sync to the Ipad. I have successfully setup other Iphones and Ipad combinations to sync to each other on itunes. I have the lates copy of itunes loaded. I have uninstalled itunes and stated over from scratch. I can't seem to get back to the orginal page where it ask if you have an accout or a new user.

Probably because you should have used the spouse's account not a new one. Try logging into the iTunes store with the Apple ID and password for the account under which the apps already exist. You can then have as many different iDevices sync with iTunes. Each device needs a unique name so iTunes will keep track of what should be synced to each device.
But if you use a new account with a new Apple ID, password, credit card, etc., then prior purchases via the other account are not recognized and she/he will need to purchase all over again.

I've updated my 2007 MacBook to 10.6.8, and now my iPhone 3 (used as iPod) and iPhone 4 aren't recognized to be synced anymore or I get an error message telling me to update my phone to 11.1 or something. When I do that is appears to update and when finished nothing appears to have updated.

It is possible one of the 10.6.8 updates may help:

  • Why there isnt direct cable or Bluetooth sync link between iPod and iPhone?

I own both the iPod and the iPhone, both linked to iTunes. It is only possible to sync between the iPod to iTunes or between the iPhone to iTunes.
Why there is no possibility to directly link and sync between the iPod and iPhone ?
I will explain why this is bothering me so much. While on vacation I bought some songs from iTunes directly from my iPhone.
When i needed these songs on my iPod, it was inpossible, becouse my PC was left at home.
Because of this I am wondering don't you think irrational the impossibility to have a direct link and sync between the iPod and iPhone via white cable or via Bluetooth connections meant only for the link sync with PC ?
I mean even Nintendo DS and SONY PSP have this kind of sync links.
Message was edited by: Arkam Knight

Rationally this means that if I can download the same things on both my devices
form the same PC based iTunes software, there must be some way to link the
same both devices directly by cable or radio frequency.
Sorry, but I do not see the logic here at all. The statement simply means iTunes can connect with multiple devices. It does not say iPods (or iPhones) can connect with each other at all. It simply doesn't work that way. I can pull a trailer with my car. You can pull a trailer with your car. Therefore my trailer should be able to pull your trailer? I don't think so.
