Sync iPod Video- iTunes

When I connect my iPod Video, iTunes, after trying to sync, says that the iPod can't be found, however the computer still detects it. What's wrong?

When itunes states that it cannot detect the ipod, is the Do Not Disconnect still on the ipod screen?
If not, how long does it take itunes to throw this error once the ipod is connected.

  • I synced ipod to itunes (windows), it removed all my single purchased songs. I can see the songs in itunes, but they are gray

I synced ipod to itunes (windows), itunes removed all my single purchased songs from my iphone. I can see the songs in itunes, but they are gray and I can't move them back to my iphone or to any other device.  I can't play them on the computer in itunes, I can't move them back to my iphone (where original purchase was made), and I can't move them into another ipod.

I had the Itunes store do this to one song out of three I downloaded. I went back to the Itunes store and reclicked on the song to download it again. It ran the download again and got the complete song this second time. Then I just resynced with my Itunes and all is fixed.

Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up on new computer, only songs which tansferred were songs bought on new computer after set up, tried to sync songs and it deleted old songs from ipod.  How can I get them back on ipod??  They are showing in music library on itunes still.

If the iPod database gets corrupted, it will add files to "Other" instead of where they really belong.
Restoring the iPod will erase this database and recreate it.
And if I do this, won't I just have the same issue when my iPod is re-updated to the most recent version again?
No, it shouldn't. This is why you Restore the iPod. It erases the corrupt database.

  • Syncing IPOD Video 30G w/Itunes - Windows XP

I'm trying to get my songs from the library while in Itunes to sync up with my IPOD, but no such luck. _My IPOD comes back and says: songs on the IPOD "Belinda's IPOD" cannot be synced because all of the the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist_. I know this isn't true because I see all the information while in Itunes. Why can't all the info be sent over to the IPOD? What more do I need to do? I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 w/ an Intel Core 2 Duo machine (custom built -- Antec/gaming machine). Oh yes, the itunes version is 7.7.1.11 with Quicktime 7.6.4. Itunes is not running in safe mode, itunes helper is currently not running either. Seems like mostly everything is running fine (working properly and such). I did a diagnostic test on this machine while I had the Itunes opened last night. Can someone please help! I'm going batty without my IPOD. Has anyone else on this forum has these problems?
I also had this problem that I posted under the Forum: *Using your Fifth Generation IPOD* and the subject +Syncing IPOD+.
    Thanks, Desperate

If everything is in your iTunes library then just go ahead and sync the iPod telling it to ignore that playlist. It may have somehow lost the link to that playlist but when it syncs, it should resync that list as a new one.

  • Song order sometimes changes when I sync iPod to iTunes

Hi, I have a problem when syncing my iPod Video 30GB (software version 1.2, I think, it's the latest one anyway) to iTunes (version 7).
After completed sync, for some albums, the song order on the iPod does not match the song order in iTunes. Of course, I want the songs of the albums to appear in the correct order on the iPod.
Please note that all my "shuffle/random" settings are off.
One thing I have noticed is that if I uncheck a song in iTunes, a song that has already been synced into the iPod once, the song is not erased from the iPod after new sync. Instead, it appers before the first song of the album, which is a bit irritating. But my problem is larger that this; the reordering of songs also happens with albums for which I haven't unchecked any songs in iTunes.

More background. When I export my iTunes library to an xml file, and view the file in a text editor, I see that the tracks that appear in the wrong order on the iPod are in the correct order in the xml file, with the correct track numbers. On the way to the iPod, something weird happens.
Would be great if someone could take a shot at this.

  • Fried hard drive. can I sync ipod to itunes and resurrect former itunes?

The hard drive on my old computer fried taking with it my itunes library. Is there a way to sync my ipod with my new computer and resurrect all of the songs in my library to itunes?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • NEW IPOD VIDEO/ ITUNES ISSUES. HELP!!

OK here is my problem. I recently recieved my IPOD Video. Attempted to sync with PC... everything ok. Then tried to sync w/ ITunes... Big problem apparently I need to format all my songs to a new AAC?? Not even sure what that means. Any suggestions? I called Apple and they said I would have to do this everytime I copied a cd to my ipod. Is that correct? If so, the IPod Video will be sent back. There has to be an easier way. Please help!

I need to format all my songs to a new AAC
That's not necessarily true. The don't NEED to be in AAC. They just need to be in a format that the iPod can play.
There are several formats you can use.
    They are:
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF
What format are your tracks in now?

  • Syncing iPod freezes iTunes

I've had my 80GB iPod classic for almost a year. In that time it has blanked itself of all music upwards of 10 times, been restored to it factory settings the same amount of times and totally refused to load video and games. All this I could deal with. It was annoying as ****, but I could deal with it.
However most recently my iPod has taken to freezing my iTunes in the middle of a sync. In the past hour, it has done this 4 times. My computer is now telling me that "Your iPod needs to be reformatted for use with Windows."
Now, this may not seem like that big of a deal, but I have over 12GB of music and reloading all of it onto my iPod, while praying that it will actually work, is time consuming and a royal pain in the ***.
Has anyone else encountered any of these problems? If so, how do I make it stop?

I have a potential solution for you:
I have a 5G iPod video that was freezing in the middle of a sync. I tried restoring, which worked fine--but the same issue came up when I went to sync again.
I eventually tried this, and it worked for me:
    1) Plug in the iPod (your computer should recognize it. If it doesn't, I can't help.)
    2) Go into OS X's disk Utility, choose the iPod's disk, and select "Erase". (Note: If the iPod doesn't show up, you may need to Enable Disk Use for it in iTunes).
    3) After erasing, go into iTunes and restore. These steps fixed the problems for me.

  • Syncing ipod with itunes in windows7

I have an issue with syncing my ipod classic to itunes using windows 7 64bit. I've just recenlty bought a new pc running windows 7 64bit using an i7 processor. I downloaded itunes 64bit, which installed ok. Then managed to transfer all my music/videos etc from an external hard drive to the itunes folder. The problem comes when syncing my ipod to itunes. It will transfer all the music videos etc (i think) but i have photos which i would like on there to. The ipod will get to a certain point of the sync and stop (photos not on ipod). Itunes says its still syncing but the ipod says its connected and THATS IT (not syncing)!!!!!
    Can anyone help?

    Perfect information, thank you Bob.

  • Syncing IPod to Itunes on G5

I had posted this on the "IPod" forum. So far no response, so I would like to try it here.
After 5 plus years of success I can no longer sync my classic IPod to ITunes on my G5. It will sync for a short time and move some songs to the IPod, but then will stop with the following message:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "my ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I can repeat the attempts to sync by dismissing the message and asking it to sync again. The process will repeat as before, but the sync time will decrease until it will refuse to sync. The message comes up every time.
I have tried about everything I can think of or get from support here and at Apple.
Here is the crazy part. I have a G5 (power PC) and a laptop (Intel) and the classic IPod (40 GB about 5 1/2 years old) and a new Nano. I cannot sync the classic IPod on the G5 but can on the laptop; w/o problem. I can also sync the Nano on the G5 (or the laptop) w/o any problem.
It seems to be that the PowerPC G5 will no longer talk to the classic IPod.
I have reset and restored the IPod; I have re-created my ITunes library; I have tried the two USB 2.0 ports on the G5 tower, and I have tried three different cables. Nothing fixes the problem.
I thought it might be related to ITunes 9.0.3; but nothing changed when I went to ITunes 9.1.
Anyone else seeing this? Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate some new approach that I have not tried.
    Thanks
    John

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for purchases from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
NOTE:  Previous purchases from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded to your new computer at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.
Once the song files are on your Mac, you can add them to the iTunes library.  Be careful, if there are songs that exist already in your iTunes library.  If you just add them all, you may have a lot of duplicates to deal with and sort.  Once your music is is complete in your iTunes library, you can sync your iPod.

  • Syncing iPod to iTunes on Windows 7

I bought and installed Windows 7 today and I downloaded iTunes with the intent of copying the songs from my iPod to iTunes as I have done on other computers before. But, when I open iTunes it starts to sync my iPod, but nothing happens. It doesn't copy my songs into the iTunes library, and it doesn't erase my iPod either.
Is there something special I need to do since I'm on Windows 7 now?
If there's anything else that I could provide that would help, let me know.

It is saying that the iPod does not have enough free storage to sync all the items yu have selected to sync to the iPod. You need 2.48 GB more free on the iPod. You need either to select less to sync or delete some content form the iPod.

  • Syncing iPod Video with Firewire

I was wondering why we're unable to sync our music onto our iPod video's via Firewire? I recently needed to erase my iPod and reinstall my library. I had over 9400+ songs, which took over 24 hours to sync. Why can't music be added via Firewire? Thanks
    Ted

The 5th Gen iPod does not have the necessary firewire controller hardware in it, which makes firewire data transfer impossible.

  • Syncing iPod with iTunes with greater file size than iPod capacity

    Hi,
My wife has a large iTunes library. It is composed of a large number of mpg files converted from CDs. Many of the songs she doesn't care to have on her iPod, they merely came with the CD.
The iTunes Library has grown so large that there are more songs than there is capacity for her iPod to hold. She likes using the auto sync feature. Is there a way for her to "mark" the songs she wants to sync and have iTunes keep, but ignore the songs she doesn't want on her iPod?
    Thank you,
    TPK
Is there a way for her to use the auto synchronization feature, yet still limit the tunes that are stored on the iPod?

Note that unchecking items will cause them to not be played in iTunes either — the preferred solution is to make a playlist for your iPod and sync only that playlist.
