Sync iWeb Across Two Macs

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Recently I have had the urge to start a website/blog and would like to do so using iWeb. I plan to do some work from each computer. I have a MobileMe subscription. Is there a way to sync my iWeb site across the two machines using MobileMe?
I am on iLife '09 and SnowLeopard.

Scott ~ Rather than trying to use MobileMe's Sync feature, you'll perhaps have better control simply manually copying iWeb's Domain file to your other Mac via your iDisk on MobileMe:

Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries or all comments or unable to publish, etc. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:

There are several third-party solutions. When I was without .Mac I used Address-O-Sync. You can find others on versiontracker.

  • Using one Itunes database across two macs

Using one itunes database across two macs
I currently run a 2010 MBP (500gb hd) at home and on the road and a 2013 Imac (1Tb hd) at work. I have a large lossless itunes library of about 300gb and would like to increase the library further.
My MBP started running slowly and I realised that my iTunes library was choking the whole computer. I started to explore ways to store my library on a remote disk and bought a G drive 1Tb portable drive.
My efforts to carry out the transfer were only partially successful with most of my library transferring but a significant number of tracks displaying the ! sign which means they couldn't be located.
I have also got an Imac at work and what I had hoped to achieve was to have my iTunes database on the 1tb portable drive and use the portable disk on both my MBP and iMac.
Our technical support company are dubious about whether this will work because the local specific itunes library data on each machine will differ and each machine will not operate correctly with the underlying data on the portable drive.
I am not very technical and I am finding it difficult to follow the various posts on this board and elsewhere. Many seem to comment on splitting their library across multiple disks but I cant really seem to get to the bottom of storing my library on one disk and using it across multiple computers.
Is what I am trying to achieve practical?
If it is, can someone point me to an article/post please? Or alternatively could someone explain how I might achieve my goal.
Thanks in a advance for your help.

  • Can you just sync playlists across 2 macs with identical libraries

can you just sync playlists across 2 macs with identical libraries. i have done a carbon copy of my home mac itunes library to a work mac.  i'll then switch itunes match on on the home mac, and i am assumign i won't need to redownload everything to my work mac.   my question is though, is it possibnle to use itunes match to just sync playlists as really i dont want to have to upload my contetn to the cloud as its nearly all not goign to be on itunes match in the cloud (obscure stuff).  so if i keep libraries in sync myself, can i jsut use match to sync my playlists?
    cheers

No you can't. Match is an all or nothing service.
However, depending on the size of your library and your upload speeds, you may be surprised at how quickly the match/upload process takes, and by the amount of stuff that does match.
Depending on how big an issue the subscription fee is to you, it may be worth giving it a go. I use match mainly to keep my iTunes libraries in sync and it is the solution that I've been looking for for years.

  • Staying in sync across two Macs

I use Lightroom 4 on two Macs and try to keep them in sync. I keep my Lightroom data in my Box sync folder so that it syncs with the Box servers, and between the Macs. That way I, in theory, have the same data on both machines and backed up in the cloud.
The trouble is, the same data doesn't appear on both Macs. I've tried navigating to different Lighroom catologs and backups, but don't seem to be able to find the right files. I think I'm a bit confused as to how catologs work and how to find the most recent file.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

What do you mean when you refer to "Lightroom data"? That could mean a lot of different things.
How quickly is this software able to upload changes from one computer so that they can be read by the 2nd computer? I would imagine that a large catalog file might take a while to upload from one computer and then download to the 2nd computer.

  • Sync folders between two Macs

    Howdy,
I want Mail on two of my Macs to be in sync. I have a lot of rules set up and once the rules are applied the mail is sorted in local folders so it disappears from the inbox. This of course causes it to no longer be available on the other Mac.
Looking for an application that can sync files I select between two Macs whenever a change is detected on either of them, in this case my Mail folder and peferences. This can go directly or through an OS X server that's running 24/7. I don't want to move my folders to the mailserver but keep them local.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I've had a Macbook Pro for about a year and a half and love it so much that this Christmas I decided to buy myself a second Mac. I got a refurbished 24 inch iMac and just set it up last night. During the setup it occurred to me that there are certain folders on both computers (documents, pictures, audio, downloads, etc) that I would like to have available and synchronized between both computers. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to do this. Does this functionality exist in Snow Leopard?
no. not unless you want to use a command line tool like rsync.
If not, are there any 3rd party apps that will solve my problem?
you can use Chronosync or ForkLift. also, you can sync not directly between computers but via a cloud. there are many services that do that. there is apple's own mobileme. another very popular one is DropBox.

  • Syncing iweb to multiple macs

I'm using iweb on my mac mini, but also have a mac book that i use when i'm not at home. I was wondering if anyone knew how to be able to work on the same website on both computers. If there is some setting i'm not seeing or some kind of software i can get to do this. Also the same thing with i photo and some of the other ilife programs.

I had this SAME issue, and after much Googling, this is what I came up with and it works perfect. (and makes it easy to back it up)
You'll need to have an external drive, or a USB flash drive.. or some kind of portable storage unit to transport a file to the other mac (even a time capsule would work).
There is a file that is called Domain in your Library Folder (Username > Library > Application Support > iWeb > Domain.site
If you copy this file onto the external device, and double click the file once on the secondary machine, it will then open up iWeb.
And Vala! You can edit your iWeb Project on two machines.
You can copy this file onto the other mac... or you can keep it on the external device to make it eay to transport between the two machines.

  • Sync documents across 2 macs

Is there a way to sync folders across both of my mac computers? So that when I make an alteration to a document it will be updated on both computers?

There has to be an easier way than doing it with that external program though isn't there?
    Easier than Dropbox?
I don't know of anything easier than:
    1) Install Dropbox, and enter your Username & Password
    2) Save files into Dropbox folder.
it seems easy enough to have 2 computers sync up and mirror each other. Isn't it?
To do syncing properly is actually very complicated. When you're dealing with people's data, you have to build in so many safeguards to avoid data corruption, overwriting of the wrong files, connecting through firewalls, routers, multiple networks.
That's why Dropbox is so good. It simplifies everything down to a few clicks.

  • How to sync documents on two Macs?

    Hi,
I have two Macs and want to sync the documents on a specific folder on both of them. In these folders I collect a lot of PDFs from the Internet.
I want to periodically update the "superset" of the documents on a specific folder on both macs.
How can I do this? Is it possible to do this with a batch script that is run in the background?

OSX apps are not "synced", neither the ibooks, music or apps from iOS are. They are held available for you in iOS' appstore and Mac Appstore to re-download them later again. Apps, books, etc do not appear in your personal cloud at all. They are not part of your 5GB account.
Music/Video purchases from iTunes in the cloud  are not available in every country.
Question:  How can I sync my mac mini to the same iCloud account? Other than logging in with the same Apple ID. I am not sure what else I can do.
using the same Apple-ID you use on your other iCloud devices, this is the way to sync. Nothing wrong there.

  • Can't sync calendars on two Macs since iOS4

I just upgraded my Touch (2G) to iOS4, and things are basically okay except for Calendar Syncing.
I've got a home computer as my source for all media plus Contacts and Calendar. I've got a work Mac that I just sync Contacts and Calendars. I'm using manual syncing. This has been working fine, until today. Now, my home computer will not update to include the work computer stuff, and in fact, it lost the work events it had on it previously. I've synched between the two machines multiple times, but it doesn't "take" on the home computer. In fact, it appears that syncing with the home computer takes the work events OFF of the Touch until I resync with work.
And yes, I choose "Merge Data" for all syncs.
Both computers have the same calendars.

I am seeing the same issues. I have a G5 Power Mac and MacBook Pro and a iPod touch that I am syncing between the two computers. I have not tried doing this before IOS 4.0 as I just got the iTouch.
Anyone know if it is possible to sync a calendar between one Mac and the iPod Touch and then have the iPod Touch sync the calendar on the second Mac. I did this between these two Macs using my Palm Centro (using palm desk top on each Mac) AND a Dell PC at work. All three computers had the same calendar info and making a change on the Palm would change the data on all three computers.

  • Sync contacts between two macs

I would like to use iCloud to sync my Contacts between two Macs. How do I get the Contacts "On My Mac" to do this?
    Thanks,

Thanks. You said: "When you setup iCloud the On my Mac contacts should've been moved to iCloud I think (can't remember what happened in my case)."
Actually that does not happen, or at least it didn't happen to me.

  • Sync iphone between two macs

How do I sync my iphone between two macs. An imac at home and a macbook pro. I want them to work equally if possible
    thanks

I want to be able to sync my iphone to both the imac and the macbook pro. Everything equally. Apps, music, photos etc.
When I updated to ios, using the macbook pro, it wiped everything out. I had to go to my imac and do a restore from a previous version to get things back. I want both macs to be equal when I synch with them.
    Can I do this?
    thanks

  • Syncing iTunes between two macs, possible?

    Hi,
A feature I really miss is the possibility to sync my iTunes music between two computers.
For instance, If I buy one song on Mac1 it syncs with Mac2, with just a few mouseclicks or so.
Right now it can be quite chaotic to keep track of both libraries, and would be nice with a program or a feature that can update the libraries easy, not matter if i'm deleting songs, adding, changing location, and so on.
    Is this possible some how?
    Thanks in advance

There are a few utilities specifically designed to help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:
    TuneRanger
    SuperSync

  • Sync iCal to two macs

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to sync my ical calendars (one on my imac and one on my mbp- both running lion) wirelessly or using air dorp or anyother way?

    Greetings Carolyn,
To sync calendars between several Macs you have some choices:
    - If you are a current MobileMe member, you can use MobileMe to sync the calendars. If you are not a MobileMe member at present, it will be replaced in the fall by iCloud which will have a similar calendar sharing ability: http://www.apple.com/icloud/
    - Use a free calendar service like Google Calendars. (Type in "Set up a calendar account in iCal" in the iCal help menu for details or just ask if you want more info on that option)
    - Use a sync program to sync the calendars across the Macs: http://www.busymac.com/busysync/
If you would like more details on one of these options just ask.
    Cheers.
