Sync Key available but Account is gone.

I have my old Sync key for the pre version 29 Firefox Sync.
I believe to have deleted the data associated with it about a week ago. Is there anyway I could restore the data?
It was in error and I don't recall seeing a confirmation.
The reason I deleted the data was because I thought I lost my key but I had two and didn't try the newer one.
I do know how to download the old version to use the old sync and update to the new one so if there is some way to restore the data I would be very glad.

Try using Portable Firefox 28 to make that attempt to recover your data with the "found" Recovery Key.

Install it to you hard drive, then see if you can connect to that old Sync account to recover your data. If you can recover your data that way, use Help > About Firefox in that version to get it updated to Portable Firefox 33.1. Then you will need to update your Sync account.

I am recommending doing it in that manner because Firefox the password manager was changed drastically a few versions ago, and I'm afraid that if you "go back" with a regular version of Firefox you may not get your passwords back in a usable form or "lose" them when updating to Firefox 33.1. And if you aren't successful you aren't risking messing up your current Firefox installation by messing around with that "go back" so many versions.
If you are successful recovering your Sync data, you can then connect your current installation to that Sync account to get your data into the new version 33.1 - and then just delete the Portable version.

Forgot the Sync Key of an account

I have set up a Firefox Sync account lately.
Yesterday, I backed up my laptop but forgot to back up the sync.
Now, I can't set up the Firefox Sync service anymore, as my email address has already registered but don't have a sync key to access.

A couple of options, you can reset the sync key which will delete the details on the Sync servers allowing you to start over again. For details of how to do that see the [[Firefox Sync is not working]] article.
The sync key should be stored in the password manager of the Firefox version that you originally set up Firefox Sync with. Open the Options/Preferences dialog (for Windows, in the Tools menu select Options). In the Options dialog go to the Security panel and click on the "Saved Passwords" button to open the password manager. In the password manager click on the "Show Passwords" button and in the search field type '''chrome''', that should show your sync key.

Sounds as if you are trying to create a new Sync account. You need to treat that software reload as a '''new device''' for purposes of Sync.

Ok. Firefox was my main browser on my old laptop, but I ended up having to wipe it's hard drive a few weeks back.
Before I wiped the hard drive I saved a recovery key. It did not say that I needed an account, just the key, so that is literally all I have. I did not have a firefox account back then. (Note: I'm pretty sure I didn't have an account at least, because when I searched for an account on Firefox with the only two emails that I use it couldn't find an account under either.)
Now that I'm trying to recover my old data, I've read that I have to download a pre-29 version of Fireox, so I got Firefox 28 mobile, but the damn thing insists that I need a Firefox account ALONG WITH the recovery key to gather the old data. It won't recognize my new account info (that I just made when I downloaded the newest version of Firefox before realizing it wouldn't be able to sync), so now here I am. With a seemingly useless sync key, a useless sync account, and all of my old bookmarks and passwords lost to the ages.
Is there anything I can do, or should I just give up?

You are probably trying to use old Sync with Firefox newer than version 29,
and they did make old Sync unusable on fresh installations of newer Firefox.
You can uninstall that newer Firefox, then install Firefox 29 from here:

Apply your sync key code, then update that installation to current Firefox,
then migrate to new Sync:

I don't get "Manage my Account" when I select the Sync tab, but if I try to create a new account it says my userid is already in use. How can I get my password & sync key?

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.
My Firefox version is 4.0.1.
When I try to setup Firefox Sync, I get a choice of "Create a new account" or "Connect".
The first tells me my email address is already in use, but selecting the Sync tab does not give me "Manage my Account."

If you don't have the Sync Key the best thing you can do is to reset it, by deleting the previous account and creating a new one with the same user. You can perform this tasks from your [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ account dashboard].

It needs to be connected to a network to have a chance of locating it - which could be wifi or 3G (if it's a 3G model). And that also applies to if it is rebooted, it would still need to be connected to a network after it reboots. If the iPad is reset (i.e. wiped) then you won't be able to locate it as your info will have been removed from it. If it is lost in another state then you may still be able to locate it (with the above network proviso), but as to whether you could then get it back would depend upon the police in the other state.

Sorry, without your Sync Key you're out of luck. It is used as the decryption key for the data that is stored on the Sync server.
