Sync Libraries across multiple Macs

I have an iMac which is my primary machine as well as a MacBook Pro. I want to be able to work on my images ubiquitously across both machines. Does anyone know of any sort of utility that would allow me to work on one machine then have a daily sync to the other so that all changes are replicated across both computers?

Aperture has some of this ability built-in. If you make changes in one library, and attempt to import it to a second library, Aperture will just sync the changes. I'd encourage you to read up on the documentation on this area.
I have a little trepidation recommending it for a solution for everyday sync. But it's certainly something I encourage you to check out and investigate it, though if it were me I'd do initial experimentation on some trial libraries.
And I have much trepidation about using something like ChronoSync to do this. They simply don't understand Aperture's library structure, and frankly I think the chances that you'll eventually corrupt the database (say if you forget to close Aperture on one machine and then sync) over time are very, very high.

  • Best practices for sharing iPhoto libraries across multiple Macs

I have a pair of iMacs running 10.6.x. and iPhoto 11 connected via Ethernet to an Airport Extreme. I am looking for a way to share my iPhoto library between the two Macs.
I found an Apple Support note on the topic (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198) which states that a disk image is a supported location for a shared iPhoto library (with limitations acceptable to me) and it strikes me that this would be a way of hosting a shared iPhoto library onto a NAS device.
Am I missing a simpler solution or, more importantly, am I missing any blindingly obvious caveats? I'd love to hear from anybody who has tried this (successfully or otherwise) or anybody who has a better idea. I haven't bought a NAS device yet, so I'm open to alternative suggestions.
    Specific requirements:
Members of my family use either one of a pair of iMacs.
The only user who edits the iPhoto library is me and I only need read/write access from one machine.
iPhoto library access limited to one user at a time is acceptable and practical in my case.

    Easiest:
If the other users only get to see the Library then just use iPhoto Sharing.
Enable sharing in the iPhoto Preferences on the Host machine, then go to the other macgine and in the same location enable 'Look for Shared Libraries'
Other forms of sharing will give the users read/write access to the Library.
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • Sync iCal across multiple macs WITHOUT internet

Here is something for the experts out there...
I have a Mac at home, with my iCal.
I have a Mac at work, with an iCal.
How do i get these two computers to sync back and forth WITHOUT using the internet (i don't have the NET at home)...
I can sync my iPOD to my home calander, but when i get to work, it doesn't matter, because i would need my WORK computer to sync to my iPOD's calander, then i can update my work, put it BACK onto my iPOD and then do the same at home, but there doesn't seem to be this feature.. i need to be able to alter calander files and take them with me...

Interesting, never knew there was an iCloud website.  Ironically, it wouldn't open in Safari (just got a spinning progress wheel), but it opened up fine in Chrome.  :/
So, I logged into iCloud under my wife's Apple ID, clicked on the calendar icon, then clicked on those icons to the right of the two calendars shown (Home and Work), selected Private Calendar, and added my email address which is linked to my Apple ID. I hoped that would do the trick to allow me to see her calendar entries in iCal in my account, but it didn't.
Am I correct that the process outlined above should display my wife's entries onto my iCal calendar?  Or do I need to go view her calendar online somewhere instead of seeing the entries on my own iCal calendar?

  • Can you just sync playlists across 2 macs with identical libraries

can you just sync playlists across 2 macs with identical libraries. i have done a carbon copy of my home mac itunes library to a work mac.  i'll then switch itunes match on on the home mac, and i am assumign i won't need to redownload everything to my work mac.   my question is though, is it possibnle to use itunes match to just sync playlists as really i dont want to have to upload my contetn to the cloud as its nearly all not goign to be on itunes match in the cloud (obscure stuff).  so if i keep libraries in sync myself, can i jsut use match to sync my playlists?
    cheers

No you can't. Match is an all or nothing service.
However, depending on the size of your library and your upload speeds, you may be surprised at how quickly the match/upload process takes, and by the amount of stuff that does match.
Depending on how big an issue the subscription fee is to you, it may be worth giving it a go. I use match mainly to keep my iTunes libraries in sync and it is the solution that I've been looking for for years.

  • Syncing safari tabs across multiple macs

I have a Mac Mini as my primary mac and a MBA as my "leisure" Mac. I thought with syncing that all my Safari tabs would be the same in both, like is done well with Mail, Contacts, and Calendar. However, I've just changed my Mini Safari tabs, and I went to my MBA expecting to see the same framework, and it has not updated. What do I need to do to sync across multiple macs?

The tabs are not synced, just the bookmarks. Tabs are not data or content, just a window frame for different URLs.

Using home sharing, can you sync libraries between multiple users in a household?

    Hey lindsay146,
Home Sharing lets you to stream or transfer music, movies, and more with up to five authorized computers in your household. You can learn more about it in this link:

  • Sync data across multiple clients

I am create an application in flex that pulls and pushes data to a MySQL database.  This program will have multiple clients logged in at the same time.  I am wondering what the best way to ensure that the data is accurately updated across all of the clients would be.

Can you explain what you mean exactly by sockets?
Is there any way to Sync data across multiple clients without the crazy expensive cost of LCDS?

  • Syncing ical across multiple computers without .mac

    Hi,
Is it possible to sync ical calendars across multiple computers in the same network or over the internet without .Mac? If I have a website or ftp server, can I use that instead to synce over the internet or is there an easier way? Thanks.

    This is another related question.
Having at last extracted a decade of diaries from Palm Desktop as vCal (since you ask I had to go back to Classic as the app quit without writing the export file in Tiger and Leopard, even tho it is otherwise OK) I now have something I can import rather messily into iCal.
However as I have really bad internet access in the Boondocks where I live I don't want to use .Mac to sync between my iMac and iBook. Palm ran very happily from a thumb drive, but I don't see how I can do it as the powers that be seem to have made the data file invisible.
I'd like to move it to the thumb drive and have an alias on each Mac where the data should be - as I do with Palm.
Does anyone know the path, and if there is a problem doing it between Tiger and Leopard?
    Cheers, Colin

  • How do i sync iphone with multiple macs? and few questions

    Hi
I would appreciate if anyone would help me.
    1. I would like to know how to sync my iphone with different macs. I have a macbook 13 and a macbook 15 and would like to use BOTH to be able to transfer data without losing them. (address, apps, photos and music)
would like to use this feature if I were to be suddenly on a trip and a friend would like to share some of his files (audio, apps, photos..etc)
    2. is it possible to use internet tethering on multiple macs or example a "spontanious" mac? (ex. if I were suddenly to use internet through usb on a friends mac while we were on a trip but it were programmed on my mac at home)
    3. my internet tethering is only working on one mac which I usually use to sync everything... i tried just using tethering through usb on the other mac wihtout any sync but somehow it didnt work... usually i just plug and play and start using firefox... by automatic detection...
    4. is there also a way to copy files from iphone onto a mac which would not be one of my libraries?
    5. why cant i use iphone like the ipod as a disk use?
I am aware that these things are somewhat possible because i have read quiet a few artivles but they are sadly enough not so current... any help appreciated.

#1: As has been said, you can't get around it. An iPhone cannot be synched to more than one computer for any media content (it can be for contacts and calendar information, I believe).
#4: You can transfer items purchased from the iTunes Store to another computer but only if you disallow synchronization and authorize that computer to your iTunes Store account. There are third-party utilities that can transfer non-iTunes Store content.
#5: there is no disk mode in an iPhone and no way to enable one, at least not in the sense of disk mode in earlier iPods. There are third-party apps that allow some file transfer to and from an iPhone.
I can't help with tethering questions.

  • Sync documents across 2 macs

Is there a way to sync folders across both of my mac computers? So that when I make an alteration to a document it will be updated on both computers?

There has to be an easier way than doing it with that external program though isn't there?
    Easier than Dropbox?
I don't know of anything easier than:
    1) Install Dropbox, and enter your Username & Password
    2) Save files into Dropbox folder.
it seems easy enough to have 2 computers sync up and mirror each other. Isn't it?
To do syncing properly is actually very complicated. When you're dealing with people's data, you have to build in so many safeguards to avoid data corruption, overwriting of the wrong files, connecting through firewalls, routers, multiple networks.
That's why Dropbox is so good. It simplifies everything down to a few clicks.

  • Sync iWeb Across Two Macs

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Recently I have had the urge to start a website/blog and would like to do so using iWeb. I plan to do some work from each computer. I have a MobileMe subscription. Is there a way to sync my iWeb site across the two machines using MobileMe?
I am on iLife '09 and SnowLeopard.

Scott ~ Rather than trying to use MobileMe's Sync feature, you'll perhaps have better control simply manually copying iWeb's Domain file to your other Mac via your iDisk on MobileMe:

Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries or all comments or unable to publish, etc. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:

  • Sync Thunderbird across multiple devices

Can anyone tell me how to sync my Thunderbird email accounts across multiple devices?  I've got this weird situation where incoming emails are showing up on one device but not another, and the contents of the inboxes are different across iMac; Macbook; iPad and iPhone.  I'm using IMAP  but just can't get the inboxes to look the same across each device.  I use this account for work so it's very frustrating.

I have the same setup here for me any my wife. We each have a separate apple ID used for iCloud (but share one ID for iTunes).
We each have personal calendars but we also have a shared one (named shared). On icloud.com we have that calendar shared where we can each add/edit the events. And it is shared accross our iPad and iPhones.

  • Sync books across multiple iPads & accounts

    Hey everyone,
I've got what is probably not that an unusual question. My company has a resource of PDF documents we want to be able to sync across multiple iPads. It's ok with the ones we own as we control the accounts but we have staff with their own iPads who want access to the documents through iBooks. I know there are workarounds like e-mailing them or using dropbox but we're talking upwards of 100 documents. Is there a way to sync a library like that without deleting the books the preson has purchased?
    Thanks in advance

  • Syncing contacts over multiple macs

I'm linking up multiple macs and one iphone and syncing through icloud. the calendars work. but the contacts are not syncing. the laptop has old contacts that i need to update to the main computer contacts.
Any ideas on what I'm not doing or why they are not syncing?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Contacts (Address Book).
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
