Sync Mac to Apple TV to view internet on big TV

I asked the guy at Dixons how to link my Mac air to my TV so I can see internet on a bigger screen and he said Apple TV. It doesn't seem to work. I have since been told this is not achievable.
Help - have I been sold something which is no good for what I want?

Mountain Lion has been around for a while now, in fact, it is about to be superseded by OSX 10.9.   But 10.8 supports airplay mirroring with appleTV (works exactly like what you want).  As long as your hardware supports airplay, just upgrade your OS, and you are good to go.
You could also buy a displayport to HDMI adapter and plug into your TV with an HDMI cable.  Use this if your Mac Air is older than mid-2011.

  • View iTunes movies on Apple TV, no active Internet connection.

How can I view my iTunes movies on my Apple TV with no Internet connection? I have set up a local wireless network using an Airport Express that has my MacBook Air, time capsule and Apple TV all connected. I can view non iTunes movies fine. I have home sharing turned on and signed in to my iTunes account (both when connected to the Internet at my parents house.)
The Apple TV prompts me to authorise my computer which I can't do as I've no Internet connection, the computer is already authorised, from previous time on the net.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Where are the movies from, are they iTunes movies.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

  • .mac sync error (com.apple.palm.calendars.Category)?

[NOTE: this exception originated in the server.]
    No such entity named com.apple.palm.calendars.Category
The above is the error message that I receive when I try to sync Contacts and/or iCal from my G5-2.0 running 10.4.10 to my .mac account. Even if I try to reset the sync from my computer to replace what's on my .mac account, I'm can't due to the error message above. Would anyone be able to suggest or provide a solution? Is this due to the iPhone being released today, or with the 10.4.10 update? Thank you.
    Ivor
    Dual G5-2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

It likely has nothing to do with either event. These registered entities are tied to your registration of the .Mac Sync client:
    • com.apple.palm.calendars.Category
    • com.apple.palm.contacts.Category
If your platform reports that one or the other, or both, are not present, you can only correct this by unregistering and reregistering your .Mac Sync client. There is no other way a user can have any impact on this issue.

  • Can you dual sync your bluetooth apple keyboard to both your ipad2 and your mac?

I want to link a keyboard to my ipad2...can i sync my bletooth apple keyboard and bluetooth mouse to my ipad2 and keep it synced with my mac mini?

I haven't done it intentionally, but while it seems to be technically possible to have the bluetooth keyboard "connect" to one and then the other, it gets messy if both devices are on at the same time and near each other. I don't recommend it.
A mouse doesn't have any utility with a finger and gesture based iOS device so that will be Mac Mini only.

Which folders do you have to home share on your mac to be able to view film rentals on an Apple tv which are being downloaded from itunes?

Home sharing will access your will iTunes library. The film has to be completely downloaded before it will be viewable on Apple TV.

  • I have just purchased the osx upgrade to 10.7 lion butb my mac is not connected to the internet. I have an apple id but it seems that i need my mac to be connected to the net to downolad the up grade. can i save the upgrade to my windows pc and transfer?

As I Said..I just wondered if it was possible to upgrade my software without having to connect my mac to the net..I have never connected it as a precaution against any nasties. It seems that i have been sent a password protected PDf with  a link to the MAC APP Store..but you can only access the mac app store if you have a mac connected to the web. any ideas..?

    Hi,
if connecting that specific Mac to the web is an issue, what you will need, anyway, is another Mac computer with OS X 10.6.8 so you can start the Mac App Store in order to download the Lion installer.
On that second computer, you can copy the Lion installer on a USB stick or other storage solution, and then copy the installer on the Mac-you-cannot-connect-to-the-internet .
You could even burn a Lion install DVD from the installer. More info about this here

  • Using a Mac, OSX 10.6.8; My internet connection is working properly, yet I get the following message in iTunes:  "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unkown error occurred (-54)."

Using a Mac, OSX 10.6.8; My internet connection is working properly, I can reach all sites via browser, yet I get the following message in iTunes:  "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unkown error occurred (-54)."

I have the same issue with almost exactly the same environment...
    iPhone4S (32GB) running iOS5.0
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    iTunes 10.5.2.11
iPhone has been set up to wirelessly sync when on charge yet I get this error when the iPhone is not even charging!
I work for a mobile network operator and although this isn't something we support anyway, we would usually stumble across something like this when customers call us for advice prior to contacting the manufacturer for support, yet this hasn't been a call driver so I'd imagine this is isolated... (either that or not many people have updated their device and set up the wireless sync lol)...
    Hey Apple! Any ideas? :-)

  • Using Apple tv to receive internet.

I just purchased Apple tv in hope of receiving internet content in addition to movies. I would like to use my Sony HDTV to view internet content via my Safari browser. Is this possible with Apple tv, or do I have to buy something else to be able to view internet content such as: msnbc, cnn, hulu, etc. Or, do I have to directly connect my MacBook Pro to my TV to view internet content. Please help.

The ATV does not have a browser, thus cannot be used to browse the Internet. I replaced my ATV1 with a Mac mini on my A/V system and, of course, I can browse the Internet with it. I can watch video from any of the video sites in full screen mode at whatever maximum resolution they are streaming the video in. I use it to watch Netflix with Safari and both the audio and HD video quality are excellent.
You could connect your MacBook Pro to your TV with an appropriate adapter cable and watch most Internet video sites on your TV. If it's a newer MBP you could use a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to get both audio and video through HDMI. You wouldn't get as high a resolution with an MBP as you would with a Mac mini because you'd have to use desktop mirroring, but you would be able to watch Internet video directly from the web, which is something the ATV can't do.

  • Syncing iPad to apple tv

How do you sync iPad to apple tv

If you mean have the display be mirrored to the Apple TV, displaying what you see on the iPad onto the TV, you'd need an iPad 2. Visit the link below to learn more.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/airplay.html
If you mean sync as in put the media you have on your iPad onto your Apple TV, you will have to go to the 'Internet' section of the Apple TV, and scroll down to Photo Stream to view your photos. To stream your music from the cloud, you will need to pay a subscription to iTunes Match, which is $24.99 a year, allowing you to stream all of your music on all of your iDevices while upgrading your ripped CDs and music acquired from other sources to iTunes quality music. Or you can leave your computer on and ultilize the 'Home Sharing' feature under the 'Computers' section in Apple TV.

  • Can I sync mac book pro version 10.4.11 with ipad?

can I sync mac book pro version 10.4.11 with ipad?

No. The minimum requirements are Leopard 10.5.8. you will have to upgrade the Mac OS if you can.
Apple ID (required for some features)
    Internet access6
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.6 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

  • FCP 7/ Sync issue in the canvas and viewer-not in timeline.

I am using FCP 7 on a Mac Pro.  I am seeing an audio/ video sync issue in the canvas and viewer if I display at anything less than 50%.  at 50% the video is choppy, but will play in sync.  If I adjust between 50% and 25% or less, I can actually see the frame change without moving the play head.  Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

Thank you for the advice MtD.  This content was encoded using H264 compression, but I have the option within my media encoder application to create only i frames-no B or P frames.  This gives me a high quality file that is supposed to be much more "edit friendly" than standard H264.
I'm in an environment where re-rendering to Apple ProRes is not always an option.  I have imported H264 content before and found no issue when trying to playback in the canvas.  One odd thing I did encounter with my "problematic" file is that though I capture this at 23.976fps, Quicktime Player identifies the frame rate as 23.97fps and Final Cut then interprets this as 59.94fps.  I thought this might be the culprit, but even after adjusting my frame rate to 23.98fps, and FCP7 importing as 23.98fps-the odd sync issue still appears in the canvas when displaying at less than 50%.
I will take your advise and re-render to Apple ProRes when that is a possibility.
    Thank you.

  • I have OSX 10.5.8 how do i update that so i can sync with current apple products?

i have OSX 10.5.8. How do i update that so i can sync with current apple products?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
