  • Syncing MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone

    MacBook Pro runs OSX Mountain Lion. Pages is the program I use most often. Ordered an iPad w/ Retina Display and it will arrive Wednesday. Looking for tips and hints on how to optimally sync my devices. For example I would like to be typing a document in Pages on one device and have it shared with the other; be able to navigate back and forth as though I own two laptops. Safari Reader is another feature I use often. I would like to have it such that when I put an article on my reading list on one device it'll automatically be on the other. Any tips and hints would be appreciated. By the way my iPhone is a 4s but I am not all that interested in syncing it with the other devices all that much.

    Actually, i just signed into iCloud and yep, its all there but only the stuff on my computer and ipad, not my phone. Looks like my computer, ipad and iCloud aren't doing a correct sync with my phone...

  • Replacing macbook with iPad 3 and time capsule

    ive been looking at an ipad for some time and am wondering if i could replace my macbook with it and a timecapsule. i need to be able to sync my iphone etc or will i still need the macbook? i have searched and found a thread from march last year but that refered to the ipad2, it said it couldnt be done but im wondering if this has changed on ipad 3.
    paul

    You cannot backup an iPad or an iPhone to a Time Capsule because there is no Time Machine for either one. You can only back them up to iCloud provided you have a wireless connection.
    And, an iPad is not a computer. It cannot do everything the computer can do. It's intended to supplement the computer not replace it.

  • Sync iCal with iPad--missing data

    I recently bought an iPad2 and synced it with my iCal on my MacBook.  It synced fine for everything except all the data on the iCal in the past; that is, from the date I first Synced it.  Subsequent syncs have done the same thing--I cannot get data transferred from the iCal on my MacBook to the calendar on my iPad2 that occurred before I bought the iPad. Can you help me with this? I am using  USB connection to  sync.
    Thanks

    I have a similar problem with getting Calendar info to transfer from my MBP (10.6.x).
    I just got an iPad2 but when I sync the Calendars, all that I get are birthdays! Even when I tell it to sync my "Work" calendar only, nothing shows up except Birthdays!
    I have looked at the settings in iTunes and in the iPad2 and they all seem to be correct (as far as I can tell...).
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • How Do I Sync Photos With iPad Using iTunes?

    Since updating to OS X 10.10.3, iTunes 12.1.2.27, and Photos, I cannot sync any photos to any devices.  Previously, I would connect a device, choose photo albums in iTunes, and sync.  Now, I connect a device and no matter what I choose in the photos tab on iTunes, the number of pictures is 0.  Also, it shows iPhoto as the source.  How do I correct this so I can get my pictures on my devices again?
    Note:  I am not going to store my photos in iCloud.
    Thank you in advance.
    Ted

    Pics taken with ipad are not part of the sync process at all.
    You import them as you would from any digital camera.

  • Syncing issues with iPad 2

    Here is my setup:
    iPAD 2 (64gb, no 3G)
    Windows 7 PC
    Everytime I connect my iPAD via USB to iTunes, iTunes keeps claiming it can't sync with it.  Reinstalled iTunes twice, same result.  ITunes wants me to restore my iPad everytime.  On the times that I do, when it finishes, it tells me it can't sync, but it opens the iPad summary page.  If you click on the checkboxes under the options, every time you check a box, the capacity flops between a 4gb max capacity to a 64gb max capacity.
    Is this caused by the fact that USB on a PC can't output the power needed to charge the iPAD?  My current theory is that not only can they not charge the ipad, I think it can't power it enough to sync it with iTunes, and may have caused damage to the hard drive.
    Has anyone else come across this problem and know of a solution?
    Thanks

    I have the same ipad 2 configuration and am also using Windows 7, 64 bit. I am having the exact same issue. The interesting thing is that a year ago, when my daughter bought her iPod Touch, *it* had the exact same issue. We went through all the support trees, deleted, hand-deleted registry, reinstalled, etc....EVERYTHING. A couple of times. Nothing helped. We took it to the Genius bar...nothinig. Finally, one guy on the telephone support said that it was a "communication failure" between iTunes and Windows 7. He suggested I try it on Windows XP if I had that lying around anywhere. Turns out, my husband's netbook uses XP and already had a mirror of our iTunes on it. Plugged in her iPod Touch and it worked like it should have all along. Sadly for me, he is away on business and has his netbook with him, so I am out of luck there for now for my iPad.
    Another interesting thing is that one of my sons has an old nano (3rd gen) and it works just FINE with Windows 7 and iTunes. It is just the iPod Touch and iPad that seem to be having problems.
    What I don't get is why Apple isn't fixing it. I was shocked when I sat here a year later with my new iPad and encountered the exact same problem.

  • Issues when syncing photos with iPad

    It just gets better...iPhoto 11 will not sync with iPad library if it contains old iPhoto 9 pictures. Excellent, a communication device that can longer communicate (Spot the irony). Aperture sync with iPad is OK

    I may be doing something wrong... I'm trying to sync my pictures folder, and within it, I have one folder per year, and within them, one folder per month.
    When I synch'ed my iPad, all 5,000 photos were in just one album, making it quite impractical to browse through them.
    This is my folder structure:
    My pictures
    \-- 2009
    \-- 2009-01
    \-- 2009-02
    \-- etc
    \-- 2010
    \-- 2010-01
    Is there any way to replicate that into albums in the iPad?
    Thanks!!

  • Aperture 3.0.3 will not sync images with iPad via iTunes correctly

    I've read the forums looking for a solution to why my Aperture 3 library will not sync with my iPad when it is connected in iTunes. I have tried creating another Aperture library (which I then fill with a few images) and iTunes is able to see and import images onto my iPad. But when I switch back to my real Aperture library, iTunes can show the folders and projects but the number of photos in the folders and projects is not showing at all (i.e. 0). The sync process just hangs and does not continue from that point.
    I've also tried another suggestion about repairing permissions, removing the .aplibrary extention and using a new "dummy" library and then switching back to the original library. Nothing seems to work. It just seems buggy and slow i.e. spinning beach ball. Otherwise (beyond syncing to the iPad) Aperture runs fine, exports, e-mails, adjustments all works fine and quickly.
    I have a fast 1TB hard drive WD Caviar Black with 32 MB cache and only 350 Gigs used as the system hard drive. The Aperture library is located on the system disk and the referenced files are on a FW800 external drive.
    Anyone having these same issues? I can't seem to figure it out.
    I guess the only workaround at this point is to just export the photos I want to sync to my iPad into another folder or into iPhoto and import them that way. But it's rather annoying to have a "professional" application which doesn't seem to work as advertised (if Aperture is indeed the culprit).

    Here is what I have found out. iTunes will only sync to the last Aperture 3 library opened, and will only update when you close Aperture 3 and then reopen iTunes. Thats the building shared previews thing I guess.
    I am using iPhoto to sync photos to my iPad and iPhone, not Aperture 3. I export from Aperture 3 as original size JPG then bring in the exported photos into iPhoto. That way I can have multiple Aperture 3 Libraries and not have to worry about iTunes finding the wrong stuff. I know it takes out some of the automagic stuff but at least it works. But remember to close both iPhoto and iTunes before you try to sync, then reopen iTunes. I don't resize any of the photos for the device I let iTunes do that for me.
    Hope this helps

  • Foto sync problem with ipad

    Hi all
    after having synced my ipad all fotos have dropped out of their folders. they were still there, but not in the folders anymore they belong to. after a number of syncs later, all pictures got lost at the ipad (they are still at the pc). How to fix?
    Cheers
    SfH

    Look what I just found (could that be the problem) here?:
    4. My iPad gives me an error upon sync to my Windows 7 computer.
    I learned this one the hard way. Some computers with motherboards based on the Intel P55 chipset and running Win 7 can produce inexplicable errors when syncing both the iPhone and iPad. Motherboards from Gigabyte, MSI and Asus can be affected. The fix must be done at the deepest levels of your computer's software controls, the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) on your motherboard. Tinkering with your BIOS used to be a you-better-know-what-you're-doing proposition, but these days, updating it is generally a simple process that can be done within the Windows OS. Check with the manufacturer of your motherboard or computer to see if they've issued a BIOS upgrade to fix the problem. If not, you might want to give a call to the company's technical support line and give ‘em an earful.

  • ICal v4.0.4/OSX.6.8 sync problem with iPad 3

    I've asked for help on the iPad forum twice now without a single response, so I am thinking that it might be an iCal/iTunes problem rather then iPad/Calendar one!
    I'll repeat the basics here and post this link (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21740855#21740855) to my iPad thread post which explains in more detail.
    Essentially, syncing between my iCal v4.0.4 (1395.7) under MacOSX.6.8 Build 10K549 and my Calendards under iOS 6.1.3 (10B329) on an iPad 3rd generation is erratic and unreliable.  I do not use iCloud and syncing is done via USB cable and iTunes v11.0.2 (26).
    What makes it worse is that the symptoms change!
    Currently, appointments created on the iPad do not sync across to iCal but appointments created in iCal do sync across to the iPad.
    Previously, existing appointments shown in iCal but which are subsequently edited show in iCal as expected but on the iPad as both the old and new entry.  Also, when creating an appointment in iCal the edit panel opens in the default calendar which is then changed to the correct calendar and actual data - the default panel and edited data both appreaded on the iPad.
    I have recently noticed that iCal periodically, yet rarely, presents a message when opening: Upgrading iCal Calendars and when this has completed, syncing returns to normal.  However, I have no idea what prompts that message nor how I could manually start an "upgrading" so that I can force a syncing correction.
    Complicated?  Well, it is rather difficult to explain what I mean as the problem is so erratic and inconsistent.
    I have tried the Apple suggestion here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627 and it made no difference whatsoever.
    In short, how can I get the iCal and Calendars to sync reliably and acurately?
    My forehead is somewhat flattened after I have spent many hours beating my head against a brick wall over this - please help before the wall gets damaged beyond repair!

    Well, being a bit short of time (and an alleged alpha type male who always rushes ahead of common sense!) I followed your instructions and added a few thoughts of my own along the way - specifically that iTunes might somehow be implicated in this curious affair as that was being used for the syncing. process.
    The result is, I hope you'll be delighted to know, success - syncing is now back to what I would have expected and what nature intended.
    For now that is, because there have been false dawns before and I expect the problem to return and haunt me again at some stage.
    But next time I'll be ready and will know how to confound and defeat the Apple Agents of Confusion!.
    What I did was ...
    backed up iCal to the Desktop in case it all went horribly wrong;
    sync'd without iCal/Calendars being checked in iTunes and thus all iPad calendars were initialised;
    powered off the iPad to remove any "RAM" type data being maintained;
    as earlier, deleted the iCal plist and all iCal/Calendar cache files but this time not only from the main user but from my DropBox and MacMate on-line back-ups (but not from Time Capsule as I wanted to have a fall-back position if it all went pear-shaped) by using Spotlight to look for all Calendar cache files wherever they might be.  I found a number of "document" files called Calendar Cache 17-22-4n n, one per day, stretching back to 23 03 2013 and these were located in my Dropbox folder.  Maybe that's the date when the current errors started to arise?  I really can't remember, but why would the iPad be looking for such files in my DropBox folder?  Most odd.
    reset the SyncServices folder;
    deleted the iTunes plist in case the "memories" of earlier appointments were in there - a long shot and probably a useless step, but I couldn't see any harm in doing it;
    logged out of my user and then back in again;
    relaunched iTunes to recreate a clean plist and then reset my preferences.  Quit iTunes;
    relaunched iCal to recreat a clean plist and then reset my preferences;
    turned on the iPad and connected it via USB lead;
    opened iTunes and reset the syncing options which were erased by resetting the SyncServices folder ealrier;
    sync'd the two devices.  iTunes reported that the iPad was "sync'd with another user" and asked if I wanted to Merge the data or Replace the data on the iPad - I guess that meant all data and not just iCal data as the latter had been cleaned from the iPad in the second stepo above.
    Selected Replace data and sync'd;
    entered a new appointment on iCal, another new one on the iPad and edited the times of an existing appointment on each device and re-sync'd ...
    ... and Robert's your mother's sister's brother's other brother!  Or Bob's your uncle, for short.
    Oh, I missed the final and most important step ...
    breathed a sigh of relief and hit the caffeine!
    I have no idea of which step is the one which resolved the issue so when (note when, not if) it happens again I'll repeat the process one step at a time (re-syncing each step) to see just where in the process the incorrect data is held.
    I'll report back on this thread if I do manage to narrow down the steps to the vital one(s) as I cannot imagine that I'm the only person in the world experiencing this bizarre behaviour.
    As I mentioned in other posts, this has happened more than once before but on those occasions it resolved itself without my intervention - save for me uttering a fair number of good old-fashioned Anglo-Saxon Oaths and Curses all the while the syncing was incorrect - and it was only recently that I noticed it corrected itself after an "iCal upgrade".  That may have been a coincidence, though, as forcing an upgrade deliberately did not cure it this time.
    So I'm pretty confdent it will happen again, but just what triggers this untoward behaviour is beyond me - I can't think of anything that I might do which causes it, nor can I begin to imagine from where the iPad collects the "historical" deleted appointment data which it then displays in addition to the "current" data on appointments.  Nor can I think why it suddenly takes it upon itself to sync (albeit incorrectly) from iCal to iPad but not the other way round.
    I didn't mention this before, but at one point I discussed this with an AppleCare Level 2 Support dweeb in Cork - and he was totally unable to fix it no matter what he tried, nor could he explain what was happenig and why!
    Many thanks for your advice and patience - you may consider yourself a Level 3 (or higher!) surrogate AppleCare Genius!

  • I can't sync Outlook with IPad and IPhone with the new itunes. Any solution?

    Since the new version of Itunes. A lot of things don'r work. I need to be able to sync again with Outlook.

    Try a Restart.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
    You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
    Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
