Sync Mail to iPhone functionality hanging in iTunes

I am running OS 10.4.10, iTunes 7.4.2 (4), and I was having this problem both before and after updating to 1.1.1 on my iPhone.
Basically, I have several accounts configured in my mail client in the MacOS, but my .mac account is the only one I access and use on my iPhone. It was working great, and frankly, still does. However, if I have 'Sync selected mail accounts' checked in the Info tab when my iPhone is connected, the syncing process freezes during the 'syncing mail accounts'. I actually walked away, and found it sitting two hours later at the same prompt. When I uncheck it, everythin else syncs perfectly, no issues, and frankly, even when it's not syncing through iTunes, it works fine on wifi and edge, so I am using my phone.
I don't know what functionality I'm losing when I don't sync this email account through iTunes, but whatever it is, I'm not seeing it.
Any ideas as to what this sync does (I did have to type in my mail password on my phone after my last reset), and any ideas on how to fix it? The problem started a few weeks ago under 1.0.2 and I seem to be running good with the function disabled, but I have a feeling when I add more mail accounts (which I intend to do) it may be helpful to have it working.

The option to sync selected Mail accounts transfers email account settings from the Mail application on your Mac (for the selected account or accounts) to the iPhone so you don't need to set up the account or accounts on the iPhone. This process is in one direction only - from your computer to the iPhone. Any changes made to an account's settings on the iPhone is not transferred to the Mail application during the next sync.
So after this is successfully done, you can deselect the option unless you make a change to an account's settings with the Mail application that you want transferred to the account's settings on the iPhone.
This doesn't resolve the problem which should work regardless.
Try selecting "Mail Accounts" below "Replace information on this iPhone" under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences to see if this makes any difference with the next sync process after this is performed.

No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

It seems apple has removed the info tab in itunes in the iphone page attempting to force mavericks users to rely on icloud. It was a great feature of syncing the mail accounts between the iphone and the mac. I dont know why apple is going around pulling out many such great features that used to make its software more friendly than that of its competitors. If this continues, apple might fall from high up the tree.

How do you sync an existing iPhone to a new iTunes install?

I had to reformat my MBP to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard, but now I have a question with iTunes.
I loaded my whole library of songs and apps into the new install of iTunes, but now I need to sync my iPhone 4 and iTunes is trying to overwrite ALL of my apps and their data. I don't want to loose any apps or data that is on the iPhone. So how can I sync my phone again without having the new iTunes overwrite the iPhone? I need iTunes to copy down what is on the phone FIRST and then sync. Not try to overwrite the iPhone.

Ok I did all that.
However, when I got back into the iPhone settings, the Apps Tab, "Sync Apps" is still not checked. When I click on it, I get the same warning message that it will erase all apps and data on the iPhone. Is it really going to do that or will it load all my saved data from when I did "Transfer Purchases"?
I think all the apps will load back fine, but I don't want to loose all the data associated with all the apps and games.

Can you sync your ipad & iphone to the same itunes account yet or?

its been over year now and the iPad 2 is out, its apparently evident that when something goes wrong no one response here with a solution, can you or can you not sync both a iPad and iPhone with the same iTunes account flawlessly yet, because i helped over 4 people to do this and every single method seems to be work arounds.
has anyone figured out how to sync both devices to the same itunes account with out work arounds after all your apps get scattered outside their folders?

You have always been able to sync as many devices as you like to one account/library/computer.
Plug in one device, select what you want to sync, then sync.
Unplug that device.
Plug in the other device, select what you want to sync, then sync.

HT1386 How do I sync my new iPhone to an old iTunes?

I've just bought an iPhone 4. I had an iPod touch before so I already have an iTunes account with all my content on it. I have tried to sync my new iPhone to my iTunes and it says that the the syncing has finished but my songs and apps aren't appearing on my iPhone. Am I doing something wrong?

I have got a new computer, and so obviosuly have had to download a new verison of iTunes to go with it, however, I now cant sync my iPhone (which was linked previously to an iTunes account on my old computer) without it wanting to erase allll my stuff. Any help??

You will need to move your iTunes library (and "all your stuff", like contacts, etc.) from your old computer to your new computer. When you Have it all set up, you can set up your phone to sync with the new library. This will erase the phone, but you can re-sync your media, apps, etc. from the iTunes library you've moved to the new one.
You can NOT use the iPhone to move your library from one machine to another. It is not a backup device.

Sync issues with iPhone 6 Plus and iTunes

I'm having issues with syncing my iPhone and iTunes.
I am running: Mavericks 10.9.3 | iTunes 11.4 | iOS 8.0.2
Every time I try to sync my iPhone 6 Plus with iTunes, the sync process gets stuck on step 5 of 5 (waiting for changes to be applied). The longest this has occurred for is 2hrs. After this time I have stopped the sync and ejected my iPhone.
I had another issue with my phone when playing music. When going to play music, I was given the error message saying that the song could not be found. I connected my iPhone to iTunes and went to the tab in summery page, 'on this iPhone'. I found the song and could see that next to the song was a small what looked like dotted grey circle. After Googling this, I found a video saying that if i was to remove all my music and then add it again, this should fix the problem with this song. I did this and this was when the issue occurred again.
I unticked the option to remove all music but the sync did not finish. So I cancelled the sync, ejected my iPhone and tried again. This time, the summery page of my iPhone said there was no music on my iPhone and the 'on this iPhone' tab, this all so said there was no music however, my music was still on my iPhone including the song that would not play. All played ok.
I have read lots in the Apple forums about lost of difference reason this may be happening. Things like bugs in iOS 8, app updates being transferred during the sync process, the latest iTunes version has bugs and even a dodgy USB cable could cause it. My iPod running iOS 5 syncs all ok but I get this problem as well on my iPad Air.
I all so had this issue with my old iPhone 4S. The problem occurred when running iOS 7 and 8 on the 4S. When I had it on the 4S, I did a restore of the 4S 4 times and thought I had found the issue down too a dodgy app. However, now that it has happened on my new iPhone and still not using that app, could this be an issue with my Mac/iTunes?
I am in contact with Apple Care, but this is such a long process.
So if anybody could please offer any advice on this or steps to try to maybe solve the issue, it would be really helpful. Or if anybody is experiencing the same problem, it would be good to know its not just my devices and Mac producing this sync problem.
I will update my post with any information provided by Apple Care as and when I get it.

Just wanted to updated my original post and give some more information on this issue that I'm having with my iOS devices running iOS 8.0.2 and iTunes 11.4.
Firstly I just want to updated my details about what version of Mavericks I'm running. I'm running 10.9.5 - I put the wrong version down in my original post.
So over the last week, I have had a few phone calls with Apple Care an am dealing with a senior technical advisor about this issue.
I have been given some instructions that I am currently working through to see if it solves the sync issue with iTunes and my iOS devices.
The Apple Care advisor has pointed out that a iTunes version issue with music that I have ripped to iTunes and the current iTunes version could be what is causing the problem. For example, every song that I have purchased from iTunes since having an account, I was told are all exactly the same the same when it comes down the to data/information about that track/album that iTunes stores with the music but when it comes to music that I have added to iTunes myself from a CD, this was added and encoded with the version of iTunes that was running at the time of adding the music. So going through all the music that I added to iTunes over the last 10 years, you can imaging that there was lots of mixed version of iTunes linked to lots of different music.
At the moment, I'm having to go through all my music and find any that I have added and create a new ACC version of that music and delete the old version. However, due to the amount of music that I have, this is going to take a long time. When I was on the phone to the Apple Care advisor, we did several albums as a test and they all synced over to my iPhone. This may just have been luck though at that time.
Now, I'm not saying that this will solve the problem that I have with the sync issue but I am going to try it and see how I get on. The only down side to this fix as far as I can see at the moment, is that when it's all done, I think I will have to fully restore all my iOS devices to get music on to them.
I will of course updated this topic when I have got through all my music and tried to sync my iOS devices.

You can get your photos off your phone. If they are all in Camera Roll just import them to your new computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083). If some of them were synced to your iphone from your computer (i.e., in photo library) just use an app like PhotoSync and send them to your new computer wirelessly. For that matter, you can sync your phone with your new computer without losing your data and settings if you carefully follow this guide: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141. Your only issue will be non-purchased music on your phone which is not in your new iTunes library, which will require 3rd party software such as Touch Copy to transfer from your phone to iTunes (or you will have to rip you CDs again to import them).

Syncing an old iphone with a new itunes

I recently purchased a new computer and I want to sync my old iphone with my new computer. Is there anyway I can take all of the data off of my phone and put it on my new itunes?
I have no way of retrieving the data off of my old computer so backing up the itunes on it would be impossible.
Also, 99.9% of my music has not been purchased through iTunes. I tried transferring my purchases from my phone to the new iphone but only a 3 songs transferred and only a couple of apps did too.

There might be a program out there (can't remember the name) that allows you to move your music back to iTunes. You'll have to google that.
As far as any photos, those will be lost. When you sync photos to the iPhone it doesn't sync the actual jpeg, but rather a VERY low resolution thumb nail.

I got the other accounts setup, but the inboxes aren't syncing up. The inboxes for my email addresses besides gmail show a bunch of messages as unread that I've already read and deleted on my laptop. I have the same problem on my desktop. All I want is the inboxes to sync up. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
You aren't doing anything wrong. The following was copied from my previous post.
You can keep all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account synchronized automatically with each email client used to access the account. This is not possible with a POP account.
You can access a Gmail account as a POP or IMAP account with the email client used to access the account on your computer as well as with the iPhone's mail client. You can access a Hotmail plus or paid account as a POP account only with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account and with the iPhone's mail client.
Messages received with a POP account are downloaded only by the email client used to access the account. The account's Inbox mailbox with a POP account is not kept synchronized with the server. Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
An IMAP account is designed to be assessed with more than one email client with the ability to keep all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.

I can't get 1 book purchased on itunes to sync to my iphone. Songs from itunes sync and books from audible sync, but this one won't

I purchased a book from the itunes store and I can't get it to sync to my iphone. All the music from the itunes store syncs fine and books from audible sync to my iphone fine. Does anyone know why the book from itunes won't sync?

Check the book's info. Some books are iPad only.
