Sync mystery

After using Entourage for years, then upgrading to Entourage 2008, the reliability has diminished. So I started using I Cal as the default Calendar when syncing to my HTC HD using Missing Sync, it works, but this is a strange function. I first started a: (mac overwrites to Device), this worked, and as it did, I noticed the events were counted up; all 955 of them. Then I added in ICal 5 new events, then performed only a synchronize. During this, I noticed again the events counted up, now all 960. Question, should this not have been a fast, easy update to the Device and not have written back to the Device as it did in an initial overwrite?

I borrowed a friend's Sony DSR-11 the other day and started recapturing some tapes. The first two tape synced up just fine. The next set of tapes showed the same sync problem but not nearly as far out of sync as the DSR-20. This is crazy.
I'm wondering if one of the cameras could be at fault but I cannot see consistent discrepancies.
In trouble shooting I have captured 2 sets of tapes (from cam A and B) 4 times each. 2 times on the DSR-20 and 2 times on the DSR-11. I throw all 4 captures of a single tape into a multiclip and none are in sync! The TC is in sync and the picture is not. I have my preferences set to abort on dropped frames and the system has not aborted any captures nor reported and issues upon capture.
I have trashed prefs and started back up with all DV settings. I'm lost.

  • IPOD auto-sync mystery

I am a relatively new user to ipods (about 2 months). I have ITunes set up to sync only the songs in my library that are checked. I rate these songs either 3,4, or 5 stars. Songs that are considered 'Recently Added' will sync correctly no matter what the rating. But after time (when they are no longer 'Recently Added'), all of my 3 star songs will delete from my ipod, even though they are still checked in my library. Only 4 and 5 star songs will auto-sync. I have the latest 7.1 itunes. Is there a mystery setting I don't know about? Thanks for any help. I would like not to rate all my songs 4 or 5.

It may be that both systems think they "own" your iPod. I don't know if this will help, but give this a try:
First, make sure that your home system is set to auto-sync and that it's synchronizing to your iPod correctly.
    Then, on your work system:
    1) locate the iTunes Library file (it normally will be in your users Home -> Music -> iTunes folder) and delete the folder.
    2) While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Command and Option keys. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
    3) Set the iPod preferences to manual synchronization. You should then, of course, be able to play tracks from your iPod.
Take the iPod home and connect it to your home system. If luck holds, it will then not switch it to manual.
Again, I don't know if this will help, but it's worth a try. Let us know if it works.
    Good luck.

  • Calendar sync mystery

HI I have a torch 6800, I have been having issues with the calender mail (was using google sync app which is now defunct) and have managed to add my main email address which is a google aps for business, so the email address doesn't end @gmail.com, its my business email address. Now I need to sync the calender form this to my phone, but when the email address is added to the BB it doesn't give calender as an option to sync?
Any ideas how I can change this?
    many thanks

I've used One Media Hub as a replacement for Google Sync. There's a free BlackBerry app and you can even import your Google Calendar to it.

  • ITunes Sync Mystery

Here is a strange one! My iPhone will not sync with iTunes, but there is a twist:
+*If I reinstall iTunes, it works until I shut down and restart.*+ It is not just my iPhone – I observe the same behavior with my iPod Nano as well.
Here are some of the relevant facts:
    • New MB Pro 15
    • OS X 10.6.3
    • iTunes v 9.1.1 (12)
    Any ideas on this one?

you could try *removing iTunes completely* (click here and follow the instructions), then reinstalling it.
you could also try to_*remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service*_.

  • Sync Mystery with Outook 2007 and iTunes 9.2.15 Continues

I have had a painful week trying to get iTunes to Sync again with Outlook 2007.
The problem started after upgrading. After exhaustive troubleshooting, I strongly believe the culprit is a cached sync file within iTunes.
I have reset my iTouch, removed all of my Outlook Syncs, reset synched history, forced sync, etc.
I treated my iTouch as a brand new device (factory reset) and started over.
When I had iTunes resync Outlook with my iTouch (again for the first time), it Synced OLD OUTLOOK DATA... ie, It did not read the new data from Outlook. And, I read through the log files. The log files are pulling the fresh data from Outlook (I see the fresh data in the logs) and the sync, according to the logs, PASSES. The iTunes diagnostics also PASSES.
My question is... how do I clear this old sync file?

Sync now working. In Outlook, selected View, Current View, Events. Then View, Current View, Customize Current View, then Fields, all appointment fields, and moved reminder into the view. Then clicked every event that had a reminder, set the reminder to none, and eventually returned to the Day Week Month view. Next sync, all events synced both ways.
    Success. !!

  • Selected 'wallpaper' appears in Camera Roll

I have selected a particular image as my 'wallpaper' from the ones provided in my iPhone 3G. After syncing with my computer, that image appears in Camera Roll on my 'phone. How? Why?
Shoukd it be doing that? It means that there is a danger that if I sync photos, the wallpaper image will be synced to iPhoto, and the next time back to the iPhone. Before I realized what was happening, I ended up with 5 copies of the wallpaper image in the Albums on the 'phone.
I should be grateful to be told (a) why this is happening, and (b) how to stop it (other than by deleting the image from the 'phone before each sync operation).

I have made a discovery concerning this bizarre phenomenon. It has nothing to do with syncing.
I keep my 'phone in a soft, felt-like Apple pouch. If I withdraw it only just enough to allow me to switch on the 'phone by means of the on-off button at the top (not the Home button at the bottom), the 'phone sometimes photographs its own startup screen — wallpaper, time, date and all. I have not been able to discover why it does this sometimes but not always, nor why it does it at all, though it may have something to do with the pressure exerted by the thumb of my left hand (holding the 'phone in its pouch) as I press the on-off button with my right hand. So the syncing mystery has dissolved, only to be replaced by another.
I now know how to prevent my album from filling up with unwanted replicas of the startup screen, but I should still be interested to learn what the reason for this strange behaviour is.

  • Ipod 20gb photo mounts and unmounts quickly

I'm having a problem trying to get my brand new (just opened it) ipod to work with my G5 DP1.8 powermac running 10.3.9.
when i first plugged in the ipod, it initiallized as expected: asked me the 'do you want to sync automatically', etc. questions. and it sync'd.
I prefer disk mode, so i also set that. and, i had to manually eject the ipod.
now, i've had nothing but trouble. on more than several occasions i plug in the ipod and it briefly shows up in the 'source' list of iTunes for 1/2 a second and automatically ejects.
so, i made a new playlist with about 20mb of song not on the ipod and that gave me time to look in the preferences while it synced. mysteriously, the 'disk mode' box was unchecked. so, i checked it again.
even in disk mode, the ipod automatically ejected itself after the sync.
when i plugged it in again it treated the ipod as new...asked me if i wanted to auto-sync with this computer. then, it told me there was not enough space on the ipod to hold the music on this computer AND what was on the ipod. so, i chose 'erase and sync' (or some message similar).
it took 25 minutes to sync and auto ejected (with disk mode verified on).
now, i'm back to square one. when i plug in the ipod it auto ejects 1/2 second after it appears in itunes.
I cannot even restore the software as, the computer says no ipod is attached--or in the brief 1/2 second it is mounted presents a message that the (current) updater is not compatible with this ipod.
I have also tried resetting the ipod.
    any suggestions?

So, as a followup, I successfully got my misbehaving muic duo to work by doing the following:
    - as soon as the iPod is mounted, going into iPod options and selecting to automatically syncing one playlist
    - once completed, manually checking off one to five more, depending on how well things are going
    - it took about an hour, but things started working better as I went along, with the most I could load successfully at 500 songs.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is my Skype account frozen somehow?

Hi there, I wasn't sure where to post my question but anyway it's been this way for about a week now. my account seems frozen in some way. I'm signed in, online but when I make a call to another skype account, there is no dialling tune (the blue thing just whirls around) and eventually fails or just rings out. The same contacts for the entire week look to be online which I know there not (no change in online&offline contacts). I uninstalled and reinstalled software on iPhone & PC but no joy. I sign in and the same contacts are'online' and I can't make any calls. Any ideas how to resolve this? Your help is really appreciated as Ive moved cities & skype is great for keeping in touch

seems like the usual syncing mystery to me.

  • Is my Skype account monitored?

I sign in to my skype account both from home (laptop), and office (desktop pc), but when I log in at home and chat with someone, it is not shown in my skype account history when I log in at office. Also when I chat via Skype in the office it shows as a missed call at home. It is as if these two accounts are not synchronized with eachother!!! Could it be possible that my account is somehow monitored in the office?

  • Is my Skype spam-calling someone?

A few months ago I received a voice mail from some man who was very angry about getting spam called, and just last week I got another voice mail from the same man, still angry, about spam calls.  I have never called this person before and nothing in my Skype outbound calls shows his number having ever been called.  I do not know if he is calling and leaving a message on the wrong number (mine), or if he is legitmately experiencing harrassment from my Skype.
I paid for a Canadian Skype number and I am at a loss as to what to do about this other than nothing at all, but I am afraid of some bogus harrassment charges being brought against me for something I have never done and have no idea how it could be done.
Has anyone heard of this ever happening?  My concern is because it was the same guy calling while a considerable amount of time had passed, making me think that he might be occasionally calling the wrong number, but my Skype number being unique I do not see how this could be, or occur twice.  I have googled searched and looked for an explanation to what is happening, if my Skype account could possibly be doing this, but so far I cannot find anything.

seems like the usual syncing mystery to me.

  • Thanks for the crappy software that nuked my Curve. My decision to get an iPhone just got easier.

After the initial sync, my Curve now looks like I just bought it. No more emails on my device, calendar failed to sync, mysterious error messages with no corresponding KB article here, it even forgot my timezone. Thanks for the lip service, but I'm taking my business back to Apple where they have engineers who give a **bleep**.

I'm having the same issues as the first user and this is now the third time that it appears I am going to have to rebuild/restore my entire berry.  I'm sorry guys, but I don't want to have to do this once a month - if I was a fan of restores and repairs, I'd get a PC.
When I first restore, syncing works fine.  Then, within a week or so, my syncing only works properly if I do it one way.  (By clicking "Replace all contacts on this Blackberry device" - if I don't select that option, one of two things will happen.  The Blackberry will miraculously have duplicates of every entry in the address book OR the syncs will fail right at the outset.  So for a few weeks, I have to remember to click that little option to replace the contacts.  Inevitably, later that month (3 times now), no syncs will work.  I'll just get repeated 'sync' failed efforts.  No amount of restarts or power cycles will fix anything and essentially, the BB is screwed.  The second time it happened, the BB actually replaced every one of my contacts with a random contact in the list.  I had the same Richard repeated 300+ times.
It's a good thing I do regular back-ups, except that the back-ups don't remember any of my preferences and I have to redo all my settings and accounts.  Essentially, this is a load of BS.  The berry itself works fine as long as I power cycle it once a day - but the syncing application is a disaster.
Furthermore, the calendar sync has NEVER worked.  All I ever get is a blank calendar, which is silly since my iCal is packed with events.  Also, the Clear Device Data never works, which is also a bit crap - because that seems to me to be the easiest way to fix this.
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to be harassing my provider to get me a new handheld because the Desktop Manager Software ruined mine.
The next time this happens, I imagine I'll be switching to an iPhone.  (Which I absolutely DO NOT want to do because I detest the touch screen keyboard an would much rather prefer to use my Curve's tactile QWERTY.)

  • Mystery- how has my old nano been updated with my new playlists in iTunes when I haven't synced it?

I got given a 2gb nano in 2005, which I filled up with imported cd music, not wanting an Apple account and not wanting to pay for music that I already have on cd (was in music industry for years, and like to own the physical product rather than a download that then needs backing up). Anway, lovely bf has bought me a 7th gen 160gb pod for Xmas, so I was merrily organising playlists and preparing to load the whole 45gb of music onto my new shiny ipod. Got my old nano out yesterday, and found that all the playlists that were there have been replaced by the first few new playlists I've made in iTunes. I am not using Match, or thieving Cloud, and I haven't had the nano anywhere near the computer for the last 3 or 4 years! I don't remember registering the nano with Apple, but the new one has definitely been registered (several conversations with Apple because Amazon sent us a "new" iPod that had already been opened, language and clock set to Australian time (the London clock said 9.47pm  YESTERDAY), and replaced it with another "new" one with the same issues (replacement hadn't even been shrinkwrapped, just the bare and slightly battered box).
Is this something that the cloud has done? And if so, how come it's done it to my baby nano, and not to the new Classic 160gb? It means it ran out of space, so effectively it's wiped off all the music that has been on there for years, and replaced it with as much as it could fit on, working from the top of the playlist list........
Having read about how the cloud nicks things and won't let you access them if you disconnect from cloud (not that I'm aware of having connected to the **** thing anyway), I'm now going to have to do a back up so that when I tell cloud to bog off, I can still copy any missing music back into iTunes.
Has anyone got an explanation for how my nano's content has been changed without me doing anything except changing my playlists in iTunes, and has it happened to anyone else?
Also, why did nobody at Apple stop to thing that "pushing" data to all your Apple devices is bound to cause problems when each device's capacity is so different from the others? My iPad is the first and small one (32gb I think), the nano is 2gb, my new Pod is 160gb, and what's in iTunes is 35gb. It's also tried to put my music library onto the iPad, announced there wasn't room (I had already selectively downloaded some music on to it when I got it 2 years ago), and wiped off all the music that was on that. It currently says there's nothing on it BUT also says it's full. I'm not very happy with Apple at the moment!
The only device listed in iTunes is the iPad, dated as Xmas 2010. Should I remove that from there?
iTunes is ALWAYS set to "prevent automatic sync" because until now, I haven't had a device with sufficient capacity to put the whole library on to, so even if I had plugged the nano in, I would have had to have selected the whole library in order for this mysterious over-writing to have happened.
    Answers, anyone?
    Thanks in advance :-)
    Nikki

When iTunes removed the ping feature they replaced it with an internal check on feeds - based on the frequency of new episodes - so your feed may take a week or more to show up the changes.
    http://www.nobodydanceshere.com/blog/feed/podcast/
Looking at your feed it is showing a last build date of 5/26/2012 - so the next time iTunes checks your feed it should update your info.
But since it has been since 2010 since your last update - you do need to wait a bit before iTunes checks your feed again.

  • IPod mysteriously dying during sync

About a month ago, I received a 3rd gen refurbished iPod Touch 32gb as a replacement for my original faulty product. However, whenever I try to sync it to my computer, the iPod makes it about half-way through the sync process before suddenly shutting off and showing the Apple logo. No error report is given on iTunes. At this point, it begins a cycle of shutting off and then attempting to reboot every 10 seconds or so. Most of the time it will not let me put my iPod into recovery mode. Sometimes, my iPod will mysteriously recover for no apparent reason and then return to normal functionality, albeit without any songs or videos loaded onto the hard drive. Usually, however, I must leave my iPod unplugged and let the battery drain before it will be recognized in iTunes once again. However, usually the exact same cycle occurs when I attempt to resync. The problem never seems to be perfectly consistent--on some occasions I have encountered an error message when attempting to sync.
I am running iOS 4.2, OS X 10.6.5, and iTunes 10.1, and my original device had no problem syncing with iTunes. I have run through all of the troubleshooting options offered on Apple.com, scavenged trough many forums but still have not found any solutions to this problem. I even sent it in to Apple, but they said that there was no problem with the device. I guess it would make sense why they did not find an issue since it usually restores just fine. And now, of course, they want to charge me for a phone call. I am extremely frustrated since I have not had a fully operational product ever since I ordered my original device in July! Sorry, had to rant just a little bit...
    Somebody please help!

    Just an update:
I took the iPod to work where I have a much smaller library, about 5 GB (my iPod is an 80 GB model). I reset it and synced to the work computer and it worked. It seems that it can only handle a smaller database? I also ran some diagnostic tests ala
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
It won't pass the FW / USB detect test. Perhaps the unit is faulty. In any case, my next step is to try to return it for exchange at Best Buy, though it is 5 days over the 30 day period. How convenient! Nothing about this exprience has been convenient. They should call this thing the iClod.

  • Using DropBox to Sync Address Book -- Mystery!

I've read several postings online about using DropBox to sync AddressBook between two Macs. The process involves moving the AddressBook folder from Library/Application Support to DropBox on the primary Mac, deleting it from the folder on the secondary Mac, and then creating symlinks from the folder in DropBox to the Application Support folders on each of the two Macs.
Seems both simple and logical. But I've been trying for a week and it almost works -- but not quite. I'm stumped.
    *The "Almost" Part*
    1) If I change or add a picture to a contact on one computer, the picture instantly syncs and appears with the contact on the other computer.
    2) If I edit a contact or add a new contact, DropBox activates on both computers and says that the data file has been changed on both machines.
    *The "Mystery" Part*
Although the DropBox link appears to be active, and although both Macs are getting their information from the folder in DropBox (both have only symlinks in the Library), the data never changes. I can add a new contact on computer #1 and it never shows up on computer #2. I can change a phone number or a note on a contact on computer #2 and it never shows up on computer #1 -- despite the fact that the new picture for that contact syncs with no problem.
Can anybody explain this? Since the two machines are sharing the same AddressBook folder in DropBox, and since the connection works well enough to update photos, why does the data never sync?
    All suggestions welcomed!
+(And yes, I'm careful not to run the Address Book on both machines simultaneously -- so it's not an issue of two programs trying to access the same data at the same time. One is a desktop at my office, the other a laptop used only on weekends or while traveling when the desktop is off.)+

Hi, I can't imagine what is doing it, but since nobody has replied yet, I'll throw this out...
Have you tried "Look for Duplicate Entries..." in the Card menu?
    Might also see this...

  • ICal mysteriously no longer syncs with my iPhone 3gs via iTunes sync

My iCal mysteriously no longer syncs with my iPhone 3gs via iTunes sync. It worked great until about a month ago. I've made over 300 Calendar changes to my iPhone 3gs' Calendar, but not a single item has synced back to my iCal on my iMac, when I sync my iTunes (which I do almost daily). In addition, I've created some items on my iCal, as a test, and none of them sync onto my iPhone 3gs.
    What gives? Ideas? Suggestions?
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I was able to manually sync my iPhone to my iCal one time, but haven't been able to get it to sync Calendar info since then. It was moderately successful, so I could export an iCal backup file. However, I ended up with about 200 MORE duplicate items on my iPhone, and what's weird is that many of these duplicates do NOT have any "edit" functionality! So I a, stuck with them being on the day they are at right now. Grrrrrr
