Sync notes to iCloud mail account

I can sync notes using my iPhone 5 and Mail under OS 10.7.5 using the "Show Notes in Inbox" option using mail preferences with a .Mac account. The same option does not even exist under mail for OS 10.8.3 when synchronizing with notes for an iPhone 4S with an iCloud account. What is the difference?

Hi rwpinto,
With the introduction of OS X Mountain Lion, Notes were moved to their own standalone application. Therefore, iCloud will sync notes with the Notes application instead of Mail:
Notes: Set up notes for your accounts

OS X Mountain Lion: Apps included with your Mac

Thanks,
Matt M.

  • How do I set "days to sync" for an iCloud mail account on an iOS7 device?

My iPhone has recently decided to download years worth of iCloud email resulting in constant dummy mail alerts, where it is sucking down mail from 2009 etc.
This is also using space on the device, which is wasted.
Is there a setting which will allow me to keep only 2 months of mail on the phone?
My iPad seems happy to do so...
    Thank you.
    Nick.

You used to be able to restrict the number of messages that download.  Unfortunately, that setting is no longer available in iOS 7.

So I basically won't run into any trouble? I
There should be no issues. Its designed to work like that.  You don't change Apple IDs just because you get a new device.

Is there any chance that the phones can fall out of sync?
Unlikely. But nothing is impossible.   Though I don;t see how that would happen. As long as both are signed into the Same Apple ID / iCloud Account they will be N'Sync. (Bad Joke)

If I get a message or buy an app or take a photo on the iPhone 5, how do I get those things onto the iPhone 6?
If you buy an App, you have 2 ways to get it to the iPhone6: If Automatic Downloads is enabled in Settings->iTunes & App Store, it will automatically download to the iPhone 6 when you buy it on the 5 and vice versa if you buy it on the 6, it will download to the 5.
Alternatively, you can simply go to the App Store App->Updates->Purchased and look for the App there and download it. Purchased Apps will not require payment again. i.e They'll be free to download to the iPhone 6 once purchased.
SMS Messages will sync over using Continuity as long as they are on the same Wifi network. Otherwise, restoring the iPhone 5 backup to the iPhone 6 will transfer all messages received up until the backup was made onto the iPhone 6.
Images, can be transferred either through Photo Stream
My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
Or any Cloud service you want such as Dropbox, or One Drive.

Also, something i forgot to ask initially: Should I update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8 first or does that not matter?
If you want the Continuity features as explained above you need to update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8. Otherwise its not all that important.

  • Iphone5 - lost my contacts when moving from BT Yahoo to BT Mail. I do not back up to iCloud and I did not use my mail account for contacts.  Can anyone help to find and restore my contacts?

IPhone5. I have lost my contacts when moving from BT Yahoo to BT Mail. I do not backup to iCloud and do not use my mail account to store contacts.  Can anyone help find the contacts on my phone and restore them?

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service like Gmail, iCloud, or an Exchange server.
Have you failed to use the device as designed?

  • Cant sync notes to iCloud using gmail account

My notes aren´t syncing with my Ipad, so I went to Settings, iCloud and the Notes button is Off. I tried to put On but when I pull the button it appears the following message: "Create a free @icloud.com email address to turn on Notes", but I´m already syncing with my gmail account... What can i do?

An iCloud email account is required to sync notes with iCloud.  You don't have to use the email account but it must be present on your phone.  Just create the account, then go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Mail section) and make sure this is set to your Gmail account.  Then just ignore the iCloud email account.

II am not receiving email on my iCloud mail account what should I do?

iTunes gift cards are only valid on accounts based in the country in which the card was issued - so if you have a US account then you can only use US gift cards. Do you know anybody in the country where you bought it from that you could sell or give it to ? Or you could try selling it on a site such as eBay.

  • ICloud mail account could not be enabled

Since I have updated to Mavericks I have been having difficulty with "Mail".  I had 4 accounts; two of which were gmail accounts.
After reading about the gmail issues, I was hoping that the recent "Mail Update for Mavericks" would solve my issue. Unfortuantely my issues remain.
The problem first began with the program taking minutes (up to 10 min) to load; forcing me to force quit the program many times.
I slowly deleted the various accounts from my icloud account. Interestingly in the System Preferences under "internet accounts" it would initially not display all of the accounts that I had listed in the mail program. It would also take 10 min to load the accounts into the Accounts Pane on the "internet Account" dialog.
Even after deleting each of the accounts; including my icloud account and then only re-enabling my icloud account things didn't get better.
Now "mail" doesn't load at all. And I can't enable "mail" in the Icloud system preferences.
It times out after 3-5 minutes saying "Your iCloud mail account could not be enabled. Try enabling it again". Of course; trying again gets the same message.
So I'm stuck not using "Mail" at all; and I don't know what the issue is.
I've moved on to "AirMail" and it is working fine. But would like to use "Mail".
    Any one else getting this???

I had this problem & found these instructions, it worked everything as it was before the upgrade now, except I've lost the old email accounts I deleted.
The problem was caused by dodgy entries in the accounts.plist file in my User Library folder. It appears that either when I upgraded to Mavericks this file gained many thousands of duplicate entries, or maybe these entries were in there before but previously the OSX/Mail combination was more tolerant. When I removed these the problem with Mail disappeared. Here’s what I did….
1> Make the user Library folder visible - in Mavericks this is a lot easier than Lion/Mountain Lion. Simply open up your user directory in Finder, select menu View>Show View Options, and select “Show Library Folder”
2> Navigate through username>Library>Mail>V2>MailData and select the Accounts.plist file. If this file is multiple megabytes (mine was 40+mb) then this is likely the cause of your problem (once sorted mine ended up at 19k in size!)
3> To be safe, make a copy of this file (I placed the copy on my desktop).
4> Using your chosen text editor (I used Text Wrangler but I’m sure TextEdit would work just fine) open the Accounts.plist in the MailData folder (not your backup copy) and take a look. If it’s the same as me you will find hundreds and hundreds of entries for the same mailbox repeated in there. Mine was an old MSN mailbox that I never use any more (I’ve seen in other forums that other Hotmail type accounts also seem to be the culprits in this context). There will likely be two lots of repeated data, one in the XML “DeliveryAccounts” <array> section, and one lot in the “MailAccounts” <array> section.
5> Delete (keeping in mind the need to select the XML sections correctly from <dict> to </dict> completely) all those extra entries that you found, keeping the mail accounts you do need, in the XML and save the file.
6> Mail should open up nice and fast again and not eat your system
7> If this did not work, and causes problems because of over eager deleting in <5> you can replace your broken Accounts.plist file with your backup and try again.

  • My iCloud mail account is not working.

I checked the settings and confirmed the password.  Then I got a message that the Incoming Mail Server can't be blank.   However, it is greyed out and I can't change it.  Any ideas?
I read somewhere on the net that someone deleted their iCloud mail account and recreated it and that worked for them.  I can't delete mine though.

Duh! Stupid me.  I tried my new Apple password and now its working.

  • TS3991 can't sync Notes in iCloud with Notes in my Macbook Pro

can't sync Notes in iCloud with Notes in my Macbook Pro

You can't sync contacts on your Mac with iCloud running Snow Leopard (10.6.8).  That requires Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  If your system can't run this, you'll have to go to turn of contact syncing with iCloud and either start syncing them with iTunes, or use an alternative service such as a Google contacts.  You could, for example, go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, turn contacts off, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, then set up a Gmail account and sync them as explained here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/2753077?hl=en.

  • How do I recreate my iCloud mail account on my iPad Air.

Took my iPad Air to Genius Bar at Apple store bekse of frequent system crashes/freezes.  Tech removed all apps and system, then reloaded iOS.  Result was like having a new device with no Settings/ apps.  Tried to recreate settings, including mail accounts. All OK until tried to recreate iCloud mail account.  Won't allow me to recreate bkse keep getting notices email user name is already in use (it is, it is mine!), and SMTP ICloud server is not responding/ accepting email name.  How do I recreate my iCloud mail account so that it works on my IPad?  Suggestions?

Let's try deleting the iCloud account from your iPad, then adding it back.
If you have any photo stream photos on your iPad, save them to your camera roll by opening your My Photo Stream alburm, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  The force close the Mail app by double-tapping the home button, locating Mail in the list at the bottom, tap and hold Mail until it wiggles, tap to close it, then tap the home button agian.
Then to delete the iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Delete from My iPad when prompted.  This only deletes the account and your iPad data from your iPad, not from iCloud.  Then go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in and turn on your sync settings, confirming that Mail is set to On.  Your iCloud data will reappear on your iPad after a brief delay as it redownloads.  Open Mail and see if your iCloud account is there now.

  • What is the advantage of an iCloud mail account?

I recently updated to iOS 5 on my 64GB iPad 2 +3G. I signed up for iCloud using the same Apple ID I have been using all along.
I was also able to create a new iCloud mail account using @me.com.  What is the advantage of having this new email account?
I kind of understand the function of iCloud. It enables me to access the same content via all my iOS devices.  If I have a photo in my iPad 2, for example, iCloud could push that same photo to my iPhone if I had one.  (It is not much use to me now as I have no other devices besides my iPad 2. I guess I could use the computer at the library and access stuff at iCloud.com.)
The two email accounts I already have are already accessible using other devices.
I can access the same Yahoo account using my iPad 2, an iPhone, or a computer at the local library. So, why do I really need this iCloud account?
I have seen postings from others who have had prior Apple IDs, @me.com accounts, and something called MobileMe. My head spins when reading those posts.
I am new to the Apple world, so luckily I don't have those problems concerning the use of previously established stuff.
I used the same Apple ID I already had to set up my iCloud, but I used a slightly different variation of that email address to set up the iCloud mail account.
Was that a mistake? I am now wondering if I should have kept it all the same. It tells you you cannot change the @me.com address once it is established anyway.
Also, the iPad is considered superior to other tablets because of the wealth of apps available (140,000). Isn't that a little hyped?
There seem to be a lot of duplicative apps that are not too useful. For example, there are tons of calculator, alarm clock, and reminder apps in the app store.
Thanks for any insights you can provide.

"What is the advantage of having this new email account?"
It is simply an extra email if you wish to use it. You don't have to.
"Also, the iPad is considered superior to other tablets because of the wealth of apps available (140,000). Isn't that a little hyped?"
No. It is actually +600,000 apps.
The 140,000 is iPad specific apps. You can also run iPhone apps and universal apps just fine.
Sure there are lots of duplicates and a bunch of apps are lame but there are definitely plenty of very good quality apps.
