Sync old ipod to new ipod

I would like to sync my new 7th gen ipod to my current 5th gen ipod. I do not want to sync it to my Library.
How do I do this?
Thx.

For songs, Apps, and Photos, sync the iPod the same way you did as the old one.  For all of your App data and other things that are included in the iTunes backup, simply restore the iPod from that backup.  iTunes should ask you if you would like to do this at some point the first time you connect it to your iTunes library.

  • Itunes won't sync to my brand new ipod classic.  It says "The Ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found.

I have been onto Apple by phone, and into the Apple store where both of them recomended that it gets replaced.  I did, got a brand new ipod classic, and i still have the same problem.
I have attempted to restore, but it won't let me for the same reason.
On a couple of occations it starts to sync!!  however it goes through practicly the whole syncing process (12,000 songs, heaps of videos) and then just freezes up! The little rainbow orb spins forever until i have to force quit.
I have had my old ipod and my partners ipod regestered and used on the one itunes with no complications whatsoever, our old ipods sync perfectly with no problems at all.
    very frustrated.
    Is it my Ipod Box?
    Or is it Itunes?
or does it not like me having more than two ipods registered?
with the last new ipod which was replaced and the current new ipod that's a total of 4 ipods regestered on the one itunes
My partner has a Dell Laptop with Microsoft.  I downloaded Itunes on there, ripped one cd, formatted the current new ipod, and it synced the one cd i ripped with no trouble at all.
Has anyone else had the same problem with their Ipod Classic?

Is iTunes up to date (10.7)?  Have you tried plugging the iPod into a different USB or using a different USB cable?
I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread to check your Hard Drive's health.  He always covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • Moving files from old ipod to new ipod

I purchased a new generation 5.5 30g video ipod. How can I transfer all the audio books and photos and music from the old ipod back to itunes and then to the new ipod?
    thanks
Photo IPOD   Windows XP   changing to new ipos

For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
If you copied photos to your iPod using the full resolution option, enable disk use, open your iPod in "my computer", open the photos folder then open the "full resolution" folder and drag the photos out of that folder to your desktop. For enabling disk use look here.
    Disk Use.
If you only copied the photos as thumbnails, you can't do this so you'll need a program such as this one.
    CopyPod Photo
Photos as thumbnails won't be of the original quality when copied back to your computer.

  • Syncing songs to my new ipod

My ipod touch was not working for I took it to the apple store and ultimately received a new ipod since they did not know what was wrong. Its the same iPod touch I originally had. 8 GB first gen one. Well for some reason when I tried connecting it to my itunes it wouldn't sync any of my songs. I had all the songs I wanted check marked and nothing happens. Only my apps sync up. No error pops up or anything.
Well after some time messing with it I learned that the only way I can put songs on my iPod is by putting all the songs in this specific setlist called "Scott's Ipod Selection" and THEN syncing them. Its alright for right now but I don't understand why I need to put every song I have in that playlist. Its a hassle because its the only playlist that I can actually create and sync on to my iPod. If I want to create another playlist I gotta create it on my ipod. Also this makes checkmarking songs useless. It doesn't matter if they are checked or unchecked, if they are in that playlist regardless then it is going to get synced to my iPod.
I tried deleting the playlist to see if that worked but it only made it so I couldn't sync any song at all. Left me no choice but to restore and get "Scott's Ipod Selection" back.
I don't know if its the newer versions of itunes since I last had a working ipod(old iPod was broken a good month before I got the new one), something screwed up with the fact I do have a new iPod or some combination of both but its annoying me. Again, no errors, no nothing, it just won't sync without being in that specific playlist. Any help solving this is appreciated. Thanks.

For non-iTunes purchased music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • Old iTunes with new iPod

    Hi,
Here's my question. I have an older iPod from circa 2004. I want to get one of the new 'iPod videos'. If I do this can I use the new iPod with the iTunes that I have on my PC or is the iTunes only allowed to interface with the initial iPod that it was sync'd with.
    thanks guys,
    Dennis

You can use the new iPod without problems. Just make sure that all your tracks are in iTunes (i.e. you don't have any that are just on your old iPod and not in iTunes) and when you connect the new iPod, you'll be stepped through getting it set up, just as when you first connected your old iPod.
If you plan to use both iPods with the same iTunes library, take a look here:

  • Have iPod that about 8 years old. Want to transfer music from old iPod to new iPod.

My ipod is about 8 years. Want to transfer music fron old ipod to new one. Can that be done ?

    Hello try again
All your media should be in iTunes so you can sync using iTunes to get the music over. If you have any purchases from the iTunes Store you may transfer them to your iTunes library.

This is the Mac OS X Technologies > iSync forum. According to your sig you are a Windows user...
iSync is a Mac OS X only application for syncing Contacts and Calendars to mobile phones and PDAs. It has nothing whatsover to do with Windows, iPods or iTunes.
Try the iTunes for Windows forum instead.

  • Transfer songs from old ipod to new ipod

is it possible to transfer songs from my old ipod to my new one?? any thoughts???

Is what is on your old iPod on your computer? If so then simply connect the new iPod and sync the same library onto it.
If the stuff on the old iPod is NOT on your computer, first step is to move it from the old iPod to the computer...

  • Transfering Old Playlists to New IPod

The Old Ipod fell from my bag... and it was not turned in to lost and found.. go figure. A great time to purchase the big 60 w/vido.. but I want to keep all my old playlist. Before I download the new software on my computer, I was wondering if U can tell me if my wish can come true

    Hello rontar,
If your old playlists still exist in iTunes on your computer, when you connect your new iPod it will automatically sync with the library and it will be identical to what you had before.
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
