Sync older iPod classic to new mac

Hi folks
I have just bought my first mac computer and my ipod classic will not sync. It is connecting and listed in devices but the content is greyed out. It will not sync to pick up new purchases.
Is this due to it only being used on a windows pc before?
How due I preserve my music and get the sync working?
Regards
John

Ralph
The third article seems to answer my problem. The ipod can only be used with a windows computer unless I restore it on the mac computer.
I still have a laptop on windows so will use it there.
All I have to do now is get rid of the hundreds of duplicates in itunes!!
Many thnks
John

  • Hoe do I sync my iPod to my new Mac - platform change

I recently got my first Mac in 10 years (Hooray!) but my iPod has been synced to my old computer, which was a PC.  How can I sync it to the new computer/bring songs and whatnot over when it's a different platform?  TIA!

Move the music to the new computer:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
Connect the iPod to the new computer and transfer iTunes pruchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Move/copy the iPod backup from the the old to new computer.  It is located here:
iTunes gives your backup a unique name for each device. To find the backup you just created, sort the window view by date and time created or last modified. iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Connect the iPod to the new computer and restore the iPod from backup.  Then sync as necessary.

  • Syncing older Ipod Classic to Itunes

For the first time, I am unable to sync my Itune selections to my Ipod. It will only download 11 songs (I have 3000 aprx that normally sync) and these I just purchased yesterday. I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting, am up to date with my Itunes but still cannot get it to sync any more songs - do these ipods eventually wear out or what?  Please help!

    Hello boff
If you are trying to migrate your music from your iPod to your new computer, it will only move over any purchased content associated Apple ID. If you want to move over your music, check out one of the many options to move your music from your old computer.

  • Connecting ipod classic to new iPad (4th generation)?

Which adapter connects older ipod classic to new iPad (4th generation)?

The "connection" for the iPod needs to go through iTunes on a computer.  You cannot connect your iPod directly to an iPad.
So (for example), if your intent is to transfer songs from iPad to iPod, you need to use the copy of the songs that are on the computer and use iTunes to sync them to the iPod.  If you can't do that because you bought the songs on the iPad from the iTunes Store, you can use the Purchased screen in iTunes (on the computer) to re-download them (at no cost) into your iTunes library.  The link to Purchased is on the iTunes Store Home screen, to the right, under QUICK LINKS.
You can then sync those songs to the iPod.

Once you have successfully, moved all your content from your iPod back over to your new computer, erase and sync your iPod with iTunes.

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.

  • I am having trouble with syncing my ipod classic to my new computor with itunes

When I have tried to sync my ipod classic to my new computor is asks of I want to erase and sync or transfer.  I selected erase and sync and it pops up with a bubble asking for my e-mail and password.  The computor has been authorized and it takes my e-mail and password but then pops up with three other e-mals form other people.  What do I do?  Should I restore the ipod classic????????

Kim, sorry, but I couldn't get what you are trying to do.
    iTunes jargon
RESTORE - to erase all data, ie music, address, video etc in the connected iPod and populate them with factory settings.
Why do we need to do this? When the iPod hardisk filesystem is corrupted and the iTunes cant map the iPod hardisk file structure, to add new data, music, videos etc.
SYNC - The process, where iTunes overrides all data, music, videos in the iPod, with the iTunes Library. So if the iTunes library in your PC is blank, then iTunes will erase your iPod, till blank.
iTunes Library - the folder in your PC/MAC that contains all your data/music/video etc. The iTunes does not treat the iPod as a store, but rather as huge landfill, so you need 3rd party software to recover any data from the iPod back to the PC/MAC.

  • How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (windows 8). It synced with my old computer (windows XP) but not with my new one (windows8)

How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (Windows8).? It synced with my old computer (WindowsXP) but will not do so on the new computer?

    Hi Lechwe,
I had this issue recently, due to changing HD for an SSD.
In my case, since the library in my iPod was synced to the HD it was not syncing to the library in the SSD, though they were the same (had the same contents).
I found there's this checkbox in iTunes > iPod > [Settings] Music, called "Sync Music". Mine was unchecked, I guess due to iPod being synced to the old library. I marked the checkbox and clicked then in Sync. iTunes asked me if I was sure I wanted to sync the iPod with the "new" library, i clicked yes, and the it started determining the song to sync. Since the library was essentially the same (just a couple songs more in the new one), it synced the couple new songs and that was it.
    Hope it helps!
    Regards,
    Awlo.

  • HT1369 Brand new computer with Windows 8.1 will not sync with iPod Classic 120G.  Windows does not recognize anything but iPod Touch?  Is there a simple sloution?

Brand new computer with Windows 8.1 will not sync to iPod Classic 120G.  Windows does not recognize anything but iPod Touch?  Is there a simple solution.  Diagnostics have run and failed to point to a fix.

Might be worth tearing down the whole iTunes install and starting over...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.
