Sync only selected songs (not playlists)?

How do I sync my whole library with the exception of some selected songs (they all don't fit)?

You have two options that I can think of:
1) Uncheck the songs you don't want to sync. Set the option on the iPod to only sync checked items. Problem: You can't play songs in iTunes that aren't checked.
2) Create a playlist with all the songs except the few you don't want. Sync that playlist instead of the whole library.

how do you sync only selected songs to your ipod using the new version of itunes?

Same way you did with the previous versions of iTunes.
To view the iPod in iTunes, Ctrl S to show the sidebar.
Create a playlist, add songs and sync that playlist.
Or drag songs to the iPod in iTunes.

7th gen nano syncs only certain songs, not my full library.  Ipad and old nano sync fine.  How do I get 500 songs v. 63?

**1. Separate these out first without deleting anything from i tunes libary?**
    iTunes:
Set up 2 iTunes playlist, one for songs & the other for talking books.
**2. Then simply transfer my 500 odd tracks of music to my new nano?**
Connect new iPod to computer & set it to manually sync.
Move your music playlist to Devices. Music will sync to your new iPod.
*3. Once all this done, delete songs (only) from the old nano just leaving my talking books?
    Connect old nano to computer.
Under Devices-Music: Start deleting all the songs including any song headings you have in the left column under Music. This will delete from the iPod yet leave your iTunes library intact.
Read the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide for other suggestions.

  • I deleted all songs from the iPad multiple times.  Each time I reconnect and sync all of these songs sync instead of the chosen playlist. Settings on Summary page are Sync Only Selected Songs and Videos. Music only the playlist is checked.

How to I stop iTunes from reloading what was on the iPad instead of what I have selected?  Summary screen shows "Sync only checked songs and videos"  Music has only the selected playlist.  All songs were deleted from iPad by swiping them to the left and hitting delete (very time consuming).  Sync is set to manual.  However whenever I hit Sync, the old music gets put back on the iPad.  I have had this happen at least 6 times.

Solved it.  "Automatically fill free space with songs" was checked on the Music page.  Worked perfectly once this was unchecked.

  • Sync only checked song and videos - not working

On my iTouch, the only way I can get music on it is manually or through a playlist. The "Sync only checked song and videos" will not work. Am I doing something wrong?

Under the 'Music' tab (when you connect the iPT, and under the 'Devices'), make sure that 'Sync all Music' is selected, not the 'Sync playlists' option.

  • I can't sync selected songs and playlists with itunes

On my laptop - I am unable to tick the "selected songs and playlists" to sync a cd i've imported. It only gives the option of replacing entire music library?

Is entire music library selected now in additon to Sync Music being selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences?
If you have manually manage music and videos currently selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and you want to switch to syncing, you must select Sync Music under the Music tab first followed by selecting "selected songs and playlists" and your selections below. This will erase all music currently on your iPhone first. In regards to manually managing music and syncing music, you can do one or the other, not both at the same time.

  • HT1386 How can I sync only selected playlists from my library in iTunes to iPhone?

Option to sync only selected playlists is grayed out in iTunes for my iPhone. How can I make it so I don't have to sync my entire library?

    know this might sound silly
    but make sure that
    1) sync music is checked
    2) you have playlist with songs in them
    3) your songs have some sort of sorting form on them (artist, genre, album, etc.)
    also try
rebooting pc and device and reconnecting
if all else fails, redownload itunes

  • I have an iPhone 5s and in my iTunes music library have the songs checked that I want downloaded onto my phone. Instead of doing this, it is syncing all songs whether they are checked or not even tho I have the "sync only checked songs" box checked.

I have an iPhone 5s and in my iTunes music library have the songs checked that I want downloaded onto my phone. Instead of doing this, it is syncing all songs whether they are checked or not even tho I have the "sync only checked songs" box checked. So basically it's syncing all of the songs when I just want the checked ones on. This is very frustrating.

When your device is connected, check the tabs at the top ("Summary" "Apps" "Music," etc. Under the Music one, check to see if "Sync Music>entire music library" is checked. If it is, that may be why all the songs are syncing.

  • Syncing only part of the playlists

    Hi,
Is it possible to sync only part of the playlists? It seems that if I remove some of the songs from my hard drives, iTunes removes the files from my iPod as well. For example, in my iPod I have a playlist called ABC that contains a song DEF and GHI. If my hard drive no longer has these songs and the playlist's removed in PLAYLISTS, playlist ABC and the songs in my iPod will be deleted after I do a sync. How do I keep the songs in my iPod when they're no longer in my hard drive?
    Thanks,
    Sun

If I select just one of the many playlists I want to update, it seems to update just that playlist and remove everything else.
iTunes won't remove anything from the iPod if you are Manually managing your music.
To remove songs from the iPod, YOU have to select the songs and delete them yourself.
Just like if you want any songs on the iPod, YOU have to select them and drag them to the iPod.
So it doesn't do incremental synchronizing?
If you are manually managing your music on the iPod, it doesn't do ANY syncing.

  • ITunes 64 bit cutting text off labels, for example it says "sync only ticked songs and vi..."

Can anyone help me with this query?
I have 64x bit iTunes on my dell studio xps laptop. The problem is that most of the text is being cut off. This is not a new problem, its been like this for years. Its just that now i've realised i'm missing some valuble info. I'll provide some examples of what is happening:
    "Sync with this iPhone over..."
"Sync only ticked songs and vi..."
    "Manually manage music and..."
I'm guessing its one of those fiddly resolution problems? The strange thing is, its not like i have run out off room on the screen? So i don't understand why its cutting text off? There is LOADS of space left? Can anyone help with this?
    Thank you in advance,

Have you selected a larger than standard font size in display preferences?

  • Inconvenient: Cannot burn disc of selected songs from playlist

    Hi,
with former versions of iTunes there was a context menu that could be used with any selection of songs of a playlist to burn an audiodisc of only these songs. You did not have to create a new playlist with just these songs but could simply burn a disc from any selection that you chose.
With the new udpate I suddenly find that this option is gone. Instead you now have only two optons:
    a) Have iTunes "burn the playlist to several discs" which only works if you actually want all songs burned (and is also flawed because the first of these discs did not show the titles and other infos, while the second one was OK).
    b) Or create a new playlist just with the songs you want to burn and have iTunes burn the entire list.
Compared to the previous flexibilty with the context menu I cannot help but find these new restrictions cumbersome. Why not simply leave the option of burning only selected songs? I would really appreciate if this option could be reintegrated into the next update.

Since about iTunes 8, the support of burning has been diminishing. Both Apple and its customers seem to be losing interest. However, if you would like to give feedback directly to Apple, you can use this page:

  • Sync only checked songs isn't working

I recently bought a nano for my husband (I already have an iPod classic). Since our music is pretty similar, I decided to choose the "sync only checked songs" option.
I thought I followed the instructions appropriately. I plugged in the device and selected it. When the summary came up, under options, I selected "sync only checked songs and videos". Then it did the sync, but that's NOT what it did-- it synced EVERYTHING! Then when I exited iTunes and went back in, the option didn't "stick." Am I doing something wrong? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because it's driving me crazy

*I selected "sync only checked songs and videos". Then it did the sync, but that's NOT what it did-- it synced EVERYTHING ...... then when I exited iTunes and went back in, the option didn't "stick."*
Did you click "Apply" down in the right hand corner of the Summary screen before syncing the iPod and/or before exiting iTunes?

  • What's the dif  "sync only checked songs and videos"&"manually manage music

Can someone please explain the difference between "sync only checked songs and videos" and "manually manage music and videos"
It probably makes sense to someone that uses many iTunes features but I just download podcasts and music.

Okay , I had "*Manually Managed*" checked in the summery and had restored the iPod to get rid of some videos that wouldn't go away. When I went to Music and checked *Sync Music* Selected Playlists, etc. it appears that the *Manually Manage* box in the Summery un-checked itself.
    Interesting,
So just to clarify ; When *Manually Managed* is checked you can only drag things into the device from your library (outside the device), using the Music tab within the device will negate this ?

  • Ipod only displays songs in playlists..Help!

Help - my Ipod nano only displays songs as playlists - in other words I cannot view songs as album, song, genre etc.....how on earth do you solve this??? Thanks!

Try putting the iPod into disk mode. I know that you said a reset was unsuccessful, but just try.
-hold menu + select buttons for 10 - 15 seconds
-when you see the apple logo fade away and come back on the screen IMMEDIATELY switch to holding the select and play/pause button
If you get the checkmark with OK to disconnect, that is a plus. Plug it into your computer and it should switch to "Do Not Disconnect - Disk Mode" At that point it should be recognized by your itunes and you should be able to transfer your purchased items off of it.
If not - iPod will need repaired.

  • Synching only selected songs from library

My library is in iTunes 9.1.1. When I go to the summary tab, I am only given the option of synching the entire library OR selected playlists, artists, genres. I used to be able to select (check) specific songs to be synced. Why is that no longer an option ? I don't want the entire library, nor do I want every song by an artist, which is what I get if I choose the "selected playlists,etc... option in the summary tab. The library is shared by myself and kids, who have their own playlists for synching their ipods. Synching selected songs is critical ( don't need Xmas songs or Miley Cyrus on my ipod).
    Solutions ?
    Thanks

Make your own playlists with the music that you like. You can exclude Christmas music or Miley Cyrus from your playlists.
You should still be abel to sync checked music. There should be a box to sync only selected/checked music.
I would still recommend using playlists. If the ipod crashes or if you want to play the unchecked songs in a shuffle or mix, you will run into issues. It is easier, in my opinion, to simply make playlists/smart playlists and then choose whatever playlists that you like to your device.
