Sync option isn't showing up in iTunes

I'm trying to help my mother put music on her iPod Touch 2nd gen, but every time I connect the iPod to the laptop through USB, iTunes doesn't give me the option of syncing anything. The device does not showing up on iTunes at all. I have tried restoring the iPod to factory settings and that worked the first time the iPod was connected, but I have more music on my iTunes account now and my mother wants me to put it on the iPod but it wont connect. The only thing that happens is that the iPod charges.
Please help me because this is very frustrating!!

maybe the mobile sync process wasnt started up

or open taskmanger
and click process
and end theses follwoing processes if you dont have one running just ignore and go down the list
Apple mobiledevice
APSDaemon
iTunes
IPodservices
sync server
now got to control panel --->administrative tools --->services--->click on Apple Mobile Device and click stop then restart

Just yesterday, I was getting the iTunes cannot connect message... it's happened prior to the iPhone..it just happens from time to time... I guess sometimes it just has some kind of connection error with the server. Nothing to be concerned about..that's on their side..not yours!

Hey Guys,
Up until four days ago my ipod touch was working perfectly! Now it won't show up on Itunes however it still shows up on my laptop as a camera. I've tried numerous solutions to fix this problem, such as uninstalling/reinstalling itunes, factory reset on the ipod, I've tested it on other computers and it works fine, so I know the problem is with Itunes! I'm using windows 8 as an OS.

Ive been trying to sync my iPod touch for a while now and it doesn't show up in iTunes or on my computer, although it is still charging my iPod. I was hoping that it would be fine when I plugged in my iPhone for the first time yesterday, but it has the same problem. I have taken the steps recommended by Apple and nothing has worked. Does anyone know how to fix this?

have you tried using a different usb port on your computer some are not strong enough, does your cord still charger your phone? if not then maybe its the cord. have you uninstall itunes? ( it has six things to successful unistall it)

The second generation iPod touch cannot be updated beyond 4.2.1.
Instead of importing from iTunes, you can re download purchase for free right on the iPod > Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

I plug it on and for some reason the only device that shows up in iTunes is my ipad, even though that's not plugged into my computer, only my phone is. I have windows and its showing the phone under 'my computer' and I keep resetting the phones settings, I installed and reinstalled iTunes, and nothing's working. I updated iTunes yesterday so I have the latest version. I'm getting very frustrated because I want to put music from my computer onto my phone.

Did you try using another computer? Did you really try everything under Moble Device Support, and USB driver?

Playlist isn't showing up on iTunes?

I created a playlist on my iPod touch but when I plug it into my computer and open up iTunes, the playlist doesn't show up under the "on my device" panel. I'm not sure if iTunes has always been like this, where it does not recognize the playlist maybe because it was created on the device rather than on iTunes or if this is actually a problem. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks.

Problem 3 - You cannot get your playlists. They will only be where you put them. You can log into your account and download your previous purchases, but your brothers girlfrend will not be able to download past purchases from her account for 90 days.
Problem 4 - What does "can't sync" mean? What happens when you try?
