Sync Personal IMAP E-mail

On my iphone, all my e-mails would sync because it was imap. From what i understand, the way i set up my personal e-mail on my blackberry is imap. why is it that i only have e-mails displayed from the date that i set up the e-mail account on my blackberry?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Because that's the way BB's work. They do not replicate the entire mailbox under any circumstances, even with BES. They are designed to begin forwarding new emails to the BB at the point of configuring the email account.
Good luck!

  • How can I automatically sync my IMAP (AOL) Mail to the Mail App

I have an AOL mail account and I use the Mail App on my Mac to check my mail and so on.
My question is how do I keep all the Mail (including messages and attachemtns) on the AOL Server as a copy on my Mac Hard Drive.
For examples, I have 20 Sub-Folders on the AOL Server, can they automatically since to duplicate folders on my Mac?  Or is there an easy way to do it.
Currently, I am manually moving my messages to the folders I created in the "On My Mac".
There must be an easier and automatic way to do this that I am missing right?  We are in 2014!
    Please Help!

I'm unable to send and receive email through Apple Mail 4.  I've checked my settings on Preferences, and my password to Gmail is up to date for syncing with IMAP, but it still won't connect.  Suggestions?

I think it's trying to open it in a gMail eMail & is losing your gMail password that it needs log into gMail, but not 100% positive.
Have you tried Right clicking or Control+click on the eMail link & choose Copy? Works on some, not others.

  • Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail.app does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.
Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?
    Thanks,
    SF

I have the same problem. The recent Mavericks update fixed the original Gmail problem (of not being able to get rid of mail from the in box), but this problem is there and very frustrating. Exactly the same as the original post - Mail on my Mac does not reflect the emails filed, moved, deleted etc from my iPad or iPhone. Gmail, iPad and iPhone are all in perfect sync, but the Mac is not.
The only way to force the Mac into line is to QUIT Mail and relaunch.
(By the way, I don't have any anti-virus on my machine, so it's nothing to do with that - its a Mavericks issue).
I have been looking at alternative mail clients as I have now lost all faith in Apple Mail. (I am committed to IMAP and Gmail, on 3 different email accounts).
Yersterday I tried Outlook (as I happen to have a copy with Office-2011 for Mac). I liked it apart from the fact that it won't work with iCloud contacts... so its no good for me.
I'm looking at Mailplane now.... doesn't seem to be available via App store, but I'm going to try a free 15 day trial I found online. I'd say that's how long Apple has to fix this problem as far as I'm concerned.

  • Leopard Mail is stuck in an infinte loop, crashing, while syncing over IMAP

I'm trying to setup an IMAP account on Mail in Leopard.
Didn't realise it was going to be so painful
I set up the basic IMAP account OK, and can send and receive emails.
Now I'm trying to copy over my existing mailboxes so that they're on the IMAP server.
I'm carefully moving about 50 messages at a time from a folder 'On my Mac' into an IMAP folder.
One of the messages was 10MB in size, and I realised this wasn't a great idea. So during the upload, I clicked the little 'cancel' X in the progress bar.
That seemed to work OK, and I carried on for 10 min or so, but now Mail is suddenly caught in an infinite loop.
I get repeated warning messages saying:
"Some actions were taken while the account was offline could not be completed". It seems to be still trying to copy the 10MB email message, and I get more and more copies of that message appearing in a temporary local folder. Then Mail just crashes.
Each time I open mail, it's the same, thing. A few warning messages, then crash. So I'm stuck in an infinite loop.
Be warned people: IMAP over Mail is still pretty buggy.

This forum is for troubleshooting Mail under Mac OS 10.4 Tiger, not Leopard. You'll probably want to post your question in the Leopard Mail discussions:

  • Problems when I changed from POP3 to IMAP in Mail

When using POP3 protocol on my Mac I was able to have a sound played to let me know when new mail came in.  Since I switched to IMAP protocol, I can't seem to make that happen.
I am running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and using the Mail program for our email.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad and saw that using the POP3 protocol, when I read/delete my mail on one of the devices I have to repeat the same actions on all of the devices to keep them in sync.  I was advised that using the IMAP protocol on all of the devices would keep the mail in sync on all of them, so I switched.  That's when the sound stopped playing for newly received email.
I tried defining a rule that says play sound when specific conditions are met, but it is working counterintuitively (i.e. when I am sending a message but not when a new one comes in.)
Clearly, I am missing something.  Is there a setting somewhere that allows me to have a sound played whenever a new piece of mail comes in?  Looking for the support of the community on this one.  Thanks in advance.

You need to make sure you have the correct settings in the mail servers: incoming and outgoing. Make sure they are imap server settings and not POP servers. You will have to check them on all devices. If it's POP on the other devices, it will not sync with IMAP.

  • N8 IMAP e-mail bug when deleting mail

    Bug :
When I open my IMAP (Google) mail with N8's native mail client (configured as IMAP because push e-mail still isn't fixed on the N8 after 3 months of usage !!!) it often starts syncing. When I delete an e-mail before the sync is over, it doesn't get deleted ... allthough it dissappears from  the inbox ...It IS still showing up in the widget however. When closing and reopening the mailclient again .. it reappears in the inbox.
So mail can only be really deleted when waiting for the sync to finish.
This is BAD programming ! Please fix

    Hi Netherlands,
Many, many rules active. Perhaps 100. None of which use the action "Delete Message." I have had these rules enforced for quite a long time. Years. Also I've ruled out a rules problem since their application is fairly instant. I've seen these E-mail. Gone back and replied to them. Gone back and seen them again and THEN they disappear.
Negative on the Auto Synch feature: it is not nor ever has been checked.
Thanks for your time and response.
    Con mucho Appreciado,
    Wm

  • Mail imap problems: Mail created random folders and saves multiple drafts

Hi there, I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and set up Mail to imap my two primary email accounts (new to discussion forum and forums in general):
I have two imap accounts set up: Gmail and Network Solutions (my work webmail). Gmail is working fine.
    Network Solutions imap account:
    - Saves numerous copies of drafts of the same email as I type, and when I try to delete them (select them all, delete, or select all and move to trash), I get a message saying the Network Solutions server on port 143 has timed out. So I have a bunch of drafts that I can't clear.
Mail menu on lefthand side of Mail window looks like:
    Mailboxes
    Inbox icon with dropdown to
    Gmail Inbox icon
    Net Sol Inbox icon
    Drafts icon with dropdown to
    Gmail Drafts icon
Net Sol Drafts icon (this is where all those drafts keep saving and can't be deleted from)
    Sent icon with dropdown to
Gmail Sent icon (only about a dozen sent emails are shown here)
Net Sol Sent icon (only about ten sent emails are shown here)
    Trash icon with dropdown to
Gmail Trash icon (seems to be all my trash)
Net Sol Trash icon (seems to be all my trash)
    REMINDERS
    ON MY MAC
    RSS
    GMAIL drop down to
[Gmail] white folder icon that has the following sub folders:
All Mail (appears to have all mail from gmail in here)
    Drafts
Sent Mail (appears to have all sent mail here)
    Spam
    Starred
    Trash
    NET SOL (drop down triangle)
    Draft folder (empty folder)
locker folder (empty, no idea what this is, did not come from Net Sol)
Sent (does not refresh properly, always missing recent msgs)
    Sent Items (empty folder)
    Trash
The thing is, that in Network Solutions, prior to imapping with Mail, I had these folders:
    Inbox
    Deleted Messages
    Drafts
    Sent
    Trash
NOW, after setting up imap to Mail, new folders have appeared in Network Solutions:
    Folder Name
    INBOX
    Deleted Messages (Bolded)
    Draft
    Drafts
    INBOX
Sent Messages (Bolded) (all recent sent msgs are in here now)
Sent (Bolded) (all sent msgs from Nov 6 and earlier are in here)
    Sent Items
    Trash
If I want to reference an email I sent after Nov 6, I have to log onto my Network Solutions webmail and go to that Sent Messages folder, move them to the Sent folder, then log out and update my Mail, at which point, I can see them on Mail.
I have not made a single folder in Mail -- what's there is a result of me setting up the two imap accounts.
Network Solutions has no idea what that "locker" folder is, it is not a Network Solutions-generated folder, does not appear in my Network Solutions webmail folder list, and I did not make it.
Can anyone help me clean this up, explain these mysterious folders, why I can't delete Net Sol drafts, why I can't get my sent messages that are more recent than Nov 6 into Mail, even though I've been primarily using Mail to send and receive mail for both Gmail and Network Solutions?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
    -Sunny

Hi. I posted again, and no one has answered either, here is the other post, it's more detailed in scope:
I am having a very strange problem here which started about a week ago, maybe someone can point me in the right direction:
    1) I use both gmail and my domain's server email which load into Mail.app. I use gmail because I like their spam filter and I use their SMTP because where I am, my ISP SMTP server isn't very reliable. Gmail solves my outgoing mail problem, but doesn't support showing when mail has been answered and that is a useful feature.
    2) My procedure is to open up gmail in my browser, mark and delete the spam (IMAP Account), then close the browser and open mail.app
    3) I have a rule in mail.app which moves my gmail to my domain mail Inbox where I organized with folders and subfolders and use many signatures to send different email out to customers. Mail has been very good as you can do quite a lot with it compared to most other email clients for OSX. I do this for three domains, with several email addresses within each domain.
    4) In mail.app, I can choose which mailbox to use for sent mail, junk, etc. This way I am sending from my domain, the email response shows and is linked to that mail so I can look for old responses fast and organize things by department. Spotlight or search works fast and perfectly. It's a good solution which I have used for well over a year (whenever gmail released IMAP services), or was, until a week ago.
Problem 1) As of now, when I open the mail account, the domain subfolders which should be below my Inbox are no longer there. If I look lower to the account folder, sometimes the folders show up there, sometimes they do not show up at all, but they are online in my web-based mail with my hosting company. The mails are not lost, but mail.app is not connecting with the host correctly as they appear and disappear randomly.
Problem 2) Every time I open mail.app now, most of my email inbox folders have to download all of the mail and their attachments again, even though I have the boxes in preferences correctly checked. Once the inbox loads all of the mail, then the subfolders disappear. This is very consistent. As long as there is no mail showing in the inbox, then the subfolders are showing correctly. As soon as the inbox is loaded showing mails, then the subfolders either disappear or move.
Problem 3). The mailboxes that my hosting's webmail service creates (like deleted mail, mail to delete, trash, trash delete, whatever, it's a Windows server) keep showing up in Mail. They never did that before. Once I deleted them, I could see them online, but not in mail. All was as it should be. Now they keep coming back every time I reconnect and I often have to reset which mailbox is being used for junk, sent mail, drafts, etc.
Problem 4). This same problem happens on all three of my machines, two being PPC and one Intel, running 10.4.11 and 10.5.5 respectively. The problem started happening on all my machines at the same time. This is also connection from three different ISPs.
Solution? My hosting company says that they have changed nothing in their settings (IMAP uses Port 143 and I do get a time-out error sometimes but not often). They have tried it in Outlook and do not get the same results, they say it's working fine. I have tried to subscribe in Leopard (you can't do this is Tiger, only in Leopard, but Mail.app says I have no subscribed folders, which is not true). The Quota Limits shows the standard Mail.app mailboxes, the Subscription List shows nothing, and no way to change it).
I tried Thunderbird and it connects faster, downloads faster and the folders are OK, but I still get mail folders appearing randomly. Sometimes I get mail folders appearing that I have not ever created with names like "System Mail". Sometimes I get mail boxes which are stored On My Mac which appear on IMAP suddenly. (Also, Thunderbird has poor signature file support, so I would prefer to use Mail, it's a better program overall.)
I have tried rebuilding the mail accounts, have done this, realistically, 25 times. Yesterday I did a complete reinstall of 10.5.5 just because I am at the end of my rope. Now I am about ready to change hosting companies as I am still having the same trouble. I am in the process of archiving all of my mail into Gmail so I can switch hosts if that is the problem. But, I would like to know first if that is actually the problem, since overall I am pretty happy with my hosting company. They are in Arizona and speak my language and they are easy to talk with. However, they do not have a Mac there so they cannot test my situation from their facility.
It's a strange problem in that one, I have used the system fine for well over a year with perfect results. Two, it happens on three different Mac used in three different places (office, home, and another person's home), and three, I have not changed hosting companies, I have been using the same host for two years and they deny changing any settings on their end.
The hosting company has no answer for me, they are not Mac users, and say that it's perfect in Outlook, but it's not actually perfect in Outlook either as mailboxes still appear randomly and sent mail ends up in my inbox randomly even in Outlook. They just don't realize it as they are not watching my mail boxes except when I am on the phone with them.
I am not having trouble with my websites. I do not have this problem with Gmail, only with my domain webmail.
I have to use Windows because of a particular shopping cart system I use, but IMAP systems should be the same on Windows or anything else. Some how, some where, some one has changed some thing. Any idea what and how to solve the problem?
    Thanks,
    John

  • Syncing read/unread e-mail for a non-mobileme account

    Hi
While mobileme accounts sync fine. My work account doesn't. So if I use Mail on my iPhone, I have to go through my e-mail twice. Every e-mail on the server is marked as unread so I have hundreds of e-mail waiting to be downloaded to my iPhone.
    Is there a way to sync read/unread e-mail for a non-mobileme account?

The reason this is available with your MobileMe account is because your MM account is an IMAP account. An IMAP account is designed for this very thing - accessing an email account with more than one email client on different computers and/or devices keeping all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
The same is available with any IMAP account, and this is supported with an Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync with the iPhone's mail client.
Your work account must be a POP account, which isn't supported with a POP account. Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP
account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.

  • Moving from POP on Eudora to IMAP on Mail - Help!

After much deliberation and perhaps with some regret I am finally moving from Eudora to Mail using IMAP. I have never really used IMAP and have a few queries.
I will be setting up IMAP with my office Groupwise system which archives email after 3 months. I would like to keep all copies of messages on my computer within Mail and within preferences (Accounts > Advanced) and I have set Mail to "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing: All messages and their attachments"
What will happen to messages that I am keeping on Mail when they are archived on my office Groupwise system, will they stay on my computer or disappear??
Has anyone out there made the move from Eudora to Mail, would welcome any comments on your experience.......
I also have a MobileMe account. Does email stay on the Apple servers forever or does archiving occur?
    Thanks in advance
    Tony

    +I am an IMAP newbie....+
IMAP is great if you have a number of devices that you get mail on. In my case, a few computers at the office, one at home, and my iPhone. Because I'm using the IMAP protocol, mail is kept "in sync" on all devices.... Mail that is read on one, is received and marked as read on the others, so you don't have to read the messages again on each device. Likewise, sent mail (and attachments) is also propagated to the Send Mail folder on all devices as well. So mail that I send to someone from the office, shows up in my Sent Mail box at home, including attachments.
Mobile Me uses IMAP as well, so if you have more than one computer, your Mobile Me mail is automatically kept in sync across computers and other devices.
So in your case, it all depends on how the archive procedure is implemented at your office.... if mail is removed from the server and archived, that will automatically remove them from your computer(s) as well. On the other hand, if the messages are just copied and archived, then they will remain on your computer(s).
You can save any mail message on your computer.
    1. under the Mailbox menu, create a new Mailbox. You'll want to save it "On My Mac". Once that is done, it should show up in the left hand pane.
    2. Find the message or messages you want to save, highlight them, and control-click and you can copy them to your new mailbox. Now, the messages have been copied and saved on your computer, so it won't matter what the archive process does to messages on the server, you've got a copy.
Now, you could also just drag messages to your new box, but that will remove them from the server. I would guess that it's not totally possible to delete the emails from the server without them being archived, but again, it's going to depend on how your mail system is set up at work. Bottom line is that IMAP mail clients reflect what is currently on the mail server they access.
+If I need to reclaim space on my MobileMe account, what is the best way of doing this without losing email on Mail?+
Well assuming your reaching the end of your online storage, you could move your Mobile Me mail on your computer to a mailbox that is on your computer. Just be aware that moving mail out of the inbox will delete it from the server. You can copy it to a new mailbox and it will remain on the server, but that obviously won't free up any space on Mobile Me.
And of course, you can dynamically allocate space on Mobile Me between storage and email, so increasing one or the other may solve your problem

  • Imap to mail, read messages not saving

Hi -- I keep asking this of the "mac geniuses" and in the other discussions and I am getting nowhere.
I use Mail to access my AOL mailbox (I know, I know). AOL uses IMAP.
Mail does NOT save read or sent mail more than the X number of days specified by whatever AOL sets it at. My mailbox keeps synching with AOL and then NOT saving my read messages. Why aren't my read messages saved into my IN box? I do not want them saved ad infinitum on AOL's server, I just want them on my computer, automatically, so I can peruse read messages and make use of them six months from now. Why won't Mail let my read messages remain? Why must it overwrite my in box with what's in my AOL mailbox? HOW DO I AUTOMATE THIS?
This seems simple, yet I have had two Mac geniuses argue with me that "it's already doing that" and one mac support person say "I can try to troubleshoot that for $49.95" and I am getting nowhere.
How do I get Mail to SAVE MY READ MAIL?
Thanks in advance. But I am not very hopeful. This kinda *****.

Since an AOL account must be created as an IMAP type account in Mail and the same with other email clients other than the AOL program, mailboxes stored on the server for IMAP type accounts in Mail and with other email clients are synchronized with the server.
This is an AOL setting or problem at their server. You need to contact AOL regarding changing this setting for automatically removing messages from the server. There is no setting in Mail that causes this. When AOL automatically removes messages from a server stored mailbox after a designated period of time, the Mail.app is only synchronizing server stored mailboxes with the server.
When creating an IMAP type account in Mail, the only account mailbox that is stored on the server by default is the account's Inbox mailbox which cannot be changed.
You have the choice to save the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server or locally on the hard drive which is available under the Special Mailboxes tab for the account preferences.
To fix the Sent messages problem, do not store Sent messages on the server. When storing sent messages locally on the hard drive, it doesn't matter what AOL does.
For messages received by the account, utilize an existing or create a new "On My Mac" location mailbox which is stored locally on the hard drive. Once a week or so or daily, transfer messages from the account's Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" mailbox which will store the transferred messages locally on the hard drive and remove the messages from the server at the same time.

  • Will iPad Air support IMAP e-mail server

I have an iPod whereupon my Sky IMAP e-mail account works fine, I am close to buying the new iPad Air, but read many off putting comments about IMAP e-mail not working with iOS7 within the support communities forum?
    Can you advise according please
    Kind regards

I use Mail+ (the app JimHdk linked to) to access my work exchange mail via the web exchange portal our company runs (at work I just use Outlook, as my work machine is a Win7 box).  It works quite well and the developer is very active in adding improvements and enhancements as well as being very responsive to questions.
If your Outlook mail is accessible via an Outlook Web page, it is one possible alternative.  For me it means I have my work email on my personal iPhone and iPad without having to accept and live with our IT security settings in place on my own devices.

  • Can I set up personal folders in Mail?

Can I set up personal folders in mail like I do in yahoo mail or outlook? I have multiple clients at a time and would like to set up folders for each one. I find it irritating to scroll through all the emails looking for what I need.

  • Yes/No using personalized printer e-mail?

I'm assuming HP has a problem on their end with the new printer e-mail personalization, but whom do you notify?
I have two c310a printers that worked until I personalized their e-mail address when the service became available-now I get a return e-mail saying the job has been received, but it does not appear on the ePrint website under job history, and after a few days, still no test prints on either of my printers.
Trying to find out if others are also having this problem, so sound off with a yes/no if you've had any luck with the new service!
If others are having the same problem, I'll assume it's on HP's end (mebbe they're aware of it)?
If it's working for others, guess I'll try to troubleshoot on my end, but I don't really know what I could do under the circumstances?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Problem solved using following steps (c310a printer):
    From ePrint website, removed printer.
From printer control panel, removed web services (access using ePrint icon).
Leave printer panel at this page, and wait a few seconds.
Re-enable web services from front panel of printer.
Wait for printer to print instruction page with new self-generated e-mail address.
Go back to ePrint website and added new printer using self-generated e-mail address.
Sent myself a test e-mail using self-generated addresses, which worked on both printers.
Customized e-mail address now that ePrint working again (with self-generated e-mail address).
One printer still did not work, but did so after unplugging, waiting a minute, then plugging back in.
Don’t remember if I did the power down/up before or after personalizing e-mail address.
Basically,  I followed steps for someone adding a new printer, but for some reason since I was already on the service, simply customizing my e-mail address did not seem to work, even after trying the power down/up step.
Everything seems to work-only problem is I’ve lost my two preferred personalized e-mail addresses for 6 months? (until I can try registering them again).
