Sync Photos app without iCloud

Can I sync Photos on my iPhone 5S, & iPad Mini (iOS 8.3) with my MacBookPro (OS 10.10.3) Photos app (1.0) without the cloud. I have too many photos to use the cloud affordably. Please advise a workaround if you know of one.

  • Can i setup the 'find my phone' app without icloud?

I'm still using Snow Leopard for work reasons which means no iCloud. Can I use the 'find my phone' app without iCloud? Is there a way? Thanks

If you had Find My iPhone enabled on your phone, then as well as using the Find My iPhone app on another iOS device, you can also use log into the account on http://icloud.com and try locating the phone via that

  • Sync photos wirelessly without opening an app

Hey all - I'm wondering if anyone knows of a sync solution that doesn't require opening an app. I've been able to sync photos wirelessly to my computer using applications like Phototomac but need a solution where I don't have to open up an app to select photos.
Is there any way to connect to the iPad and when a photo hits the photo library it would show up on my computer as well? Or even manually be able to select photos from a browser to transfer.
    Thanks!

With the exception of a few apps, like Safari, the answer is no.

  • Transfering apps without iCloud?

A friend recently gave me her iphone 4, however it has not been updated, so it doesn't have iCloud. We were expecting to transfer her purchased apps through iCloud, but when I try to update the phone, it will erase all of the apps. How would I be able to transfer her apps on her new iphone 5, without downloading iCloud first, or how would I update my iphone to get iCloud, without it deleting the apps off of the phone?

If I understand your original post correctly, the iPhone 4 is still in the same state it was in when your friend gave it to you.  If that's true, then all she has to do is sync the iPhone to her computer's iTunes before you (plural) do anything else.  Then she'll have her own copy of everything.
By the way, you should both make sure you have the latest iTunes (11.0.1).
The next thing I would recommend is for you to prepare to "move in" to the iPhone.  Do that by discarding everything on it, and making the iPhone look like it was just purchased by doing Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.
Then you can proceed to set the iPhone up as your own, with your Apple ID, and pick up her apps as described above.

  • Can't sync Datavault app using iCloud

I can't sync my data vault app via iCloud has anyone?

Hm, were the notes on your iPad created before you enabled iCloud notes sync?
I am thinking that iCloud will only sync notes added subsequently to you enabling Notes sync.

  • New Photos app and iCloud backup.

I have recently downloaded a beta version of the new Apple Photos App brought in to replace iPhoto. It stores all your images in the Cloud so they can be accessed and viewed on all your devices without the limitations of photo stream. This is what I gather anyway. What is not clear is whether original copies of all my photos will remain on my hard drive, or will they only be backed up in the Cloud and then deleted from computer? I know eventually everything is going to be stored in the Cloud, but I would still like to all my photographs backed up on my mac as well!

You can't at this time.  Photos is still in beta and is lacking quite a few of the features that iPhoto has.  I strongly suggest you continue with iPhoto until Photos is officially released and has all of the features in iPhoto that you require.  Right now it's really not ready for prime time IMO.

  • Will the new photos app and icloud photos library support all formats of pics and videos from my iphoto library?

I will be migrating my whole 200gb iPhoto library 9.5.1 mavericks over to Yosemite iPhoto 9.6.1 and then migrate to the new photos app and hopefully to the icloud.photos online. Does this all support all of my formats such as AVI videos in my iPhoto library. I don't want to lose those through migration.

I have this 31% issue too - when I attempt to update my iPhoto library to the new Photo app.
I have a few libraries - one on my mac, and two on a NAS. I access the NAS via wifi.
The mac based library did update, but the two network albums have yet to be successfully migrated over to Photo.
    It's driving me insane!!!

  • OSx 10.10.3 Photos app and iCloud storage

What does OSx 10.10.3 Photo app do if iCloud is enabled and photo library exceeds size if iCloud storage?

thank you for the fat response
actually on system preferences it says 52.8gb of photos and videos
    and on photos app 70.47gb
when i go to photos app in finder and go to "show package" and then get info for  the folder "Masters" it says   55.45gb
a bit weird but according to the thing you mentioned obviously the uploading process involved uploading specific  parts of my library and not the whole thing

  • What's the ultimate function of replicating progrommes to icloud because you can always download the programmes that you want to backup in icloud from apps without icloud

As we can always download the programmes that we want to backup in icloud from apps directly without icloud, then what's the ultimate utility of uploading programme files to icloud?
    thanks a lot!

Backing up to iCloud is an alternative way for apple customers to be able to save data apart from contact, calendars, notes, etc. Now it might be pointless to you and to me, but some customers do not have computer to back up to or have their CD's that they import those songs from, so they need to save it.
To me backing up to icloud is only for 8GB iphones, any other devices will take up more than the free 5GB icloud has or you buy more storage, so it does not make sense to me or some people.

  • How to add photo from Photos app as iCloud/user avatar?

    Hello,
I would like to change my login and iCloud user avatar. I have photos in the new Photos app, but I can't import or drag&drop files on the settings screen from Photos.
"Take a photo with your iOS device or manually add photos from the Photos app." - I would like to do that, but how?
    Thank you!

  • How can I use Airplay Mirror of Photos app without slideshow?

Every time i try to use airplay mirror and go to the photos app it starts the slideshow feature.
I can't find a way to disable the slide show. I want simply to mirror my photos so I can zoom them and move around.
Did anyone figure out a way to do that?

    Hi
To use airplay you need an airplay capable device such as Apple TV and an iPhone that is 4s or higher, mine is only 4 so I can't access airplay. Once both the Apple TV and phone or iPad are connected to the same wireless notwork you will be able to mirror your screens.
    I hope this helps.

  • Yosemite new photo app and icloud: uploading photos

I have upload problems: it looks as if uploading c.100,000 photos of c. 1 TB will take 10,000 days at c. 10 photos per day (my current speed) ! What am I doing wrong? I understand I need to not do this on wifi and my upload speed of less than 1Mbps may prohibit a reasonable upload time. Any advice? I'm moving the photos to icloud and not keeping them on the mac to free space (it only has 1 TB) - I therefore need to keep original size which may be a problem if each individual image is large....

Your photos are likely fine, however are you saying your updated your computer and do not back it up regularly? If so then you photo library is not only likely fine it also has a backup. If you have not been backing up, you should begin doing this regularly. Sooner or later without a backup plan you will lose precious data. Apple has included Time Machine in OS X for about 7 years so there is absolutely no reason to not be backing up.
So take a deep breath, relax and let Photo's do it's thing and then learn how to use the app.
Finally, giving idle threats to Apple serves no value. I have asked the moderator to remove that portion of your post as it is off topic and violates the Terms of Use you agreed to.

  • How to sync two computers without iCloud?

My wife & I used to sync our Mac laptops.
I think we used Mobile Me. ($99 per yr ?)
    1) Does Mobile Me still exist?
***She has MBP 10.6.8 and can access iCloud.
I have MBP 10.5.8 and cannot access iCloud.
    2) How can we sync our Address Books and iCalendars without using iCloud?

    MobileMe has been discontinued.

  • Sync iPhone contacts without iCloud by using Bittorrent Sync?

iCloud (or iTunes) has messed up my contacts again, duplicating and altering some. Bittorrent Sync is highly recommended for syncing folders between multiple devices without going through any cloud server. It would be perfect for syncing contacts but it's not possible to find the contacts data on an iPhone. Is there a way?

    Ask Bittorrent

  • Can I sync a document without iCloud

    Hi guys,
Does anyone know if I can get pages or numbers for iPhone and just use the cable to sync documents with my macbook pro? I'd rather not use iCloud. Thanks!

You should be able to sync via iTunes as in the pre-cloud days. Connect your iPhone to your MBP which should open iTunes. Click on the iPhone in the Devices section of the left sidebar then click on Apps. Scroll down to File Sharing & select Pages. Then, below the right panel click Add then navigate to the files you want to sync, click Add in the dialog box then Sync next to the Add button.
