Sync Problems After Installing Vista Service Pack 1

I just installed Vista service pack 1. Hotsync ceased to work. So, after checking Palm online help, I downloaded and installed Desktop 6.2 and Hotsync 7. The instructions said not to uninstall my previous version of Desktop 4.2 and Hotsync 6.01. After completing the installation, I find that my data had not been moved to the new location and that some Hotsync items had changed such as Quick Intall to Install. And, I still can't Hotsync. So, here's a series of questions:
How can I get my data over to Desktop 6.2?
Do I want to move the data over or should I reinstall Desktop 4.2? (I use an XP machine to print my schedule and usually simply copy the user folder from the Vista system to the XP system. There's no Vista print driver available for my hp printer.)
Is Palm trying to become Microsoft by changing where they store information to the confusion of a power user?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Post relates to: Palm Vx

The version 6.2 of Palm desktop does not support your Vx.
Click here for the support page for 6.2; http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html
The only handhelds supported are Palm TX, Z22; Tungsten E2.
You will need to install the version that is on the CD that came with the Vx. You will need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop on the Vista PC in order to re-install the older version of Palm desktop.
First thing to consider is, where is the current data. On the device or in the PC?
If you have the data in Palm desktop 6.2, do an export of the data for backup. After the re-install of the older palm desktop, import the data for each category. Since you are still using the XP PC and has data on that system, you can export the data from that PC.
In Vista, the userfolder is in documents-palm os desktop. One caveat here, the data format in the 6.2 user folder is not compatible with the data format in earlier versions of Palm desktop so you cannot copy and paste the entire user folder into the older version of Palm desktop.
Here is a procedure for backing up your data.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
To do the "clean" uninstall on the Vista PC, here are the instructions.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
Disregard the first step above because your data is on the XP PC and we are just going to import the data.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
PalmOne
C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
did not sync before create a hotsync name.

  • Performance problems after installing XP Service Pack 3

    Hello,
    After upgrading my client XP-machine to Service Pack 3, I have serious performance issues working with ApEx. Firstly, establishing the connection to the ApEx Workspace and then logging in both are very slow. Navigating through the workspace works fine, however when I then open any page for editing and/or try to run it, again it is very slow. As we work with PL/sql Embedded gateway I have changed the parameter SHARED_SERVERS to 10, but this did not make any difference. Remotely connecting to this server in other ways such as ping, connecting to xmlpserver, mapping network drives and connecting to the database all work fine.
    My collegues also working witk Service Pack 3 have no performance issues. However when I performed a rollback of the XP Service Pack 3, the performance issue was gone!
    Does anyone know of any issues similar to this problem?
    Regards,
    Ben van Dort

    This issue is probably related to an update of InternetExplorer by Service Pack 3. Working with Firefox instead of IE gives no performance problems whatsoever.
    Version of IE after Service Pack 3: 6.0.2900.5512.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236CO

  • Display problem after update XP service pack 2

    Can anyone advice me on the following :
    I installed the XP service 2 (Xp pro) on my Satellite Pro 2100 and ever since I have at the right side of the display a black border that is not used of about 2 cm wide.
    I've tried installing the latest nvidia geforce driver but that didn't solve the problem.
    Before the update my resolution was put to 1024x768 32 bit colors, but now I can only put it to 969 x 768 ? Never heard of this resolution before but now my screen is no longer jumping from left to right.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks already,
    pLippo

    Hi pLippo,
    it seems the display driver is not compatible to the Service Pack 2. I understand your issue in this way, you have this problem after installing the Service Pack and not before.
    In my opinion you could download and install the latest display driver from toshiba (https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com) under Support and Download page.
    If this doesn't solve the problem you could wait until toshiba releases a new display driver or you uninstall the service pack 2.

  • Intel 945GM display driver problem after installing Vista on A100 PSAA8

    After upgrading to Vista on Satellite *A100-207 PSAA8E-180049EN*, display adaptor "*Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family*" does not work. In Device Manager, it reports "*This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)*". Using the Vista driver on Toshiba Website and also tired latest driver from Intel Website to no avail. Re-installed all Vista drivers in the order recommended on Toshiba Website. Also tried multiple removals and re-additons of various drivers to no avail.
    If someone out there has the same model, I would appreciate if you could send a snapshot of device manager screen (collapsed to show sub-devices under main devices). Also a second snapshot of device manager showing resources (Device Manager / View / Resources by type). My e-mail address is: [email protected]
    Greatful for any other ideas or suggestions.

    Problem resolved by a fresh install of Vista followed by all Vista drivers in order as described in the document on the Toshiba website. Thanks to all who reviewed this question. Don't hesitate to e-mail me for details at [email protected] Happy New Year!

  • Problem after Installing Vista - Anyone know how to make it Mac by default?

    Sup everyone,
    I have Leopard installed on my iMac (the new one), and i installed windows Vista, but now every time i turn on my iMac, it goes straight to Vista. I want it to start on Apple by default.
    How do i do that exactly(step by step)? besides having to hold the option key at start-up...
    Thanxz in advance to whoever helps me solve this...

    While in Mac, go to System Preferences/Startup Disk - click on Mac OS 10xxx and if you want, in the lower left of this window you can lock your selection.
    Also, there is an option while in Vista, open the Boot Camp tray. I would not select either Mac or Vista there, since if you have to restart Vista after a windows upgrade, it might restart in Mac. Then to get back to Vista, you would have to shut down Mac, then use the option key to get back into windows. (This part is a little iffy since I haven't had any upgrades in Vista yet)!

  • Hi, after installing WinXp Service Pack 3 Firefox no longer browses. I get Server not found.

    All other computers on my local network connect
    and browsers work fine. Ping works on affected machine.
    The network connections are all ok and the status of the internet
    gateway show traffic in and out. Both windows and norton firewalls
    are temporarily disabled but no effect. Any help greatly appreciated

    Hi, ping works on any internet IP. Tried alternate pages, same problem.
    All other machines on local network
    do not have this problem. They have normal access to internet. Both firefox
    and ie8 do not work on this machine. I've tried to repair the connection
    through windows and IE, but same problem. From the IE diagnostic log a
    message 12007 crops up that says limited or no connectivity. I'm beginning
    to suspect SP3 overwrote an ethernet driver. It's an old card. But when I
    tried to system restore, the message was no changes had been detected.
    That was curious since my workgroup name had reverted back to the XP default.
    I fixed that problem so my lan file and printer sharing all work ok.

  • DW CS3 preview issue after installing Vista SP2

    I have DW CS3 installed on my desktop and laptop computers. One computer uses vista64 and the other vista32. After installing vista service pack 2, I now have the following issue previewing PHP pages under Apache: All browsers give me a "cannot display the webpage" error UNLESS I am connected to some kind of network--it could be the internet or my peer-to-peer network. My destop computer is attached to a printer via RJ45 cable. If the printer is turned on, I can preview webpages in DW. If the printer is turned off, I cannot! Or, if I am connected to the internet through my wireless internet card, I can preview pages, otherwise, not.
    Previous to installing SP2, I was able to preview pages on both computers without the need to be connected to a network, so I am pretty sure that SP2 is involved in this new issue.
    When Apache and MySQL start up in the XAMPP control panel, there are no errors, and I can go into PHPMyAdmin just fine.
    Has anyone else run into this? Any thoughts?

    I'm just following up here. I have not solved the issue, but I did figure out that the problem isn't with vista service pack 2 but with Kaspersky anti-virus 2009.

  • Vista Service Pack 2 incompatible with Acrobat 8.1.6?

    On 6/13/09 I installed Vista Service Pack 2 and then around 6/16 or 6/17 I installed the 8.1.6 Acrobat update.  By 6/18 I could no longer print to PDF from any application; even printing a test page failed.  I tried re-installing Acrobat this morning, but I am still getting error messages in the Adobe PDF print queue.  Everything seemed to work fine with the Adobe PDF printer before the 8.1.6 update, so I am guessing that there is some kind of incompatibility latent in Vista Service Pack 2 that is now actively preventing printing to the Adobe PDF printer.  I would rather not have to use another PDF printer, though I did download one that seems to work for now, until the Acrobat issue is resolved.
    Has anyone else experienced this, or found a solution? Thanks!

    I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with SP2 installed  and use Acrobat 8 Pro.     Recently Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 installed automatically and I then began having problems with producing a document from my scanner (EPSON CX3200 all in one).   My system is all up to date, drivers, programs, and Windows, Norton 360 etc.    After debugging I found I was having problems with the ADMPlugin.apl....repeat  ADMPlugin.apl...NOT ADMPlugin.api.
    I ran repair several times on my Adobe Acrobat and nothing changed.  I read the knowledge bases and found that the ADMPlugin.apl was causing other problems with other users also.    Since my ADMPlugin.apl file was NOT updated with the latest Acrobat update it remained dated 5/10/2007.
    I went into my Acrobat Reader 9.0 directory and found the ADMPlugin.apl dated 2/27/2009 and copied it to my Acrobat Pro 8.0 directory and now everything is working fine.   I would suggest anyone research the ADMPlugin.apl problems.
    The same day I solved this problem, Windows Vista updated SP3....(when will it end?) but everything is working fine for me now.  Stay tuned.
    From my own experience with Adobe programs and Windows.....almost everytime there is a major update, there are problems with the same programs or often their interaction with other programs.  On the bright side!  I learn the how's and why's of all this stuff and at least can carry on a somewhat intelligent conversation with other users.  Hope this helps...good luck.
    P.S.  ADOBE-----perhaps you should check that ADMPlugin.apl  with an "L" in the SPPlugins Folder.

  • With Vista Service Pack 2 NO SOUND on HP530 with Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2.

    Last night I installed Vista service pack 2. Now I get the message "No audio output device is installed".
    Drivers are up to date - that is, there are no new drivers for this Vista release to be found (yet).
    Tried to roll back as suggested in another post. However, no new driver was installed so no roll back.
    It looks as if Vista SP2 needs new drivers from HP. Does anyone have any suggestions??
    Btw, HP instant support reports "the information you entered is not of a currently supported mode". Bought that model 1,5 year ago..... ;-(

    This is a worldwide issue with several audio drivers after a recent Windows update.  Microsoft's website shows a disclaimer saying that it is not responsible and that we should approach the Original Equipment Manufacturer about the problem.  Obviously, our OEM is HP who, to date, have neither communicated a fix to their customers, nor have they issued a recall.  <text deleted>
    Please see the other thread in this forum entitled:  HP Quicktouch On Screen Display has stopped working and no audio output device is detected.

  • Upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 on my Satellite L305-S5955...now there's no sound!

    Last night I upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 and today it says I don't have a soundcard.  Out of all of computers, this is my only Vista, so I'm having trouble fixing this problem.
    I tried to upgrade the drivers from the Toshiba website, but it's not a driver issue; there is no card being recognized.
    So, I used the "Add New Hardware" wizard to re-add the soundcard.  Doesn't work.
    I see lots of people having trouble with this.  And also, when the sound was working, it was really quiet.  I'd have to turn off the dishwasher, heat, laundry machines, etc to hear anything!
    Hope someone can help me on this.

  • My Satellite A205-S5800 Is InCompatible With Microsoft Vista Service Packs

    I don't know where Toshiba gets off saying they're compatible with the Vista Service Packs when they are most certainly NOT.  I have had the SAME exact problem with SP1 & SP2.  I bought this paperweight at Best Buy (NEVER shop there), with Vista Home Basic, and ran into problems one month later, when I tried upgrading to SP1 (via Windows Update).  It rebooted, and then refused to load.  I had to reinstall everything.  Again and again this happened.  I took it to Best Buy, and they told me it was a faulty hard drive.  Replaced, the problems reoccurred again.  So, Best Buy claimed it was the Motherboard.  A fresh one installed, SP1 finally worked from stand alone download.  For 9 months, no problem.  Then I stupidly decided to update to SP2 (via Windows Update).  The SAME exact problem.  Files were corrupted.  Restore points vanished.  Always with reinstalling to original format.  I get SP2 standalone to work, and then Microsoft Update tells me I need to update with something or other.  Rebooting ONCE AGAIN prevents me from loading up anything.  Bets Buy now claims it's a software issue.
    So, 3 different problems caused the exact same problem.  Always with Windows Update, and almost always with Service Packs.  This is compatibility?  Toshiba sold me a lemon, a giant paper weight.  I cannot upgrade it to Service Packs, and who knows which update next will frell me over.  Especially since Microsoft forces updates on us from time to time.  I have every right to update this laptop to the latest Service pack or other such necessary update to keep my system secure.  What happens when my vulnerable machine is hijacked and zombieifed by nogoodnicks, and the police come knocking at my door?  After all is said and done, and they chastise me about not updating my system, do I tell them, "No, it's OK.  Toshiba says it's totally cool not to.  They think Microsoft Service packs are evil"?  Believe me, this situation can and has happened before.  Machines can be compromised, and police will think it's you first.
    Now, who at Toshiba do I speak to about a refund/replacement?  I Lemon Law (via California) you, Toshiba.  You sold me a worthless hunk of junk, and that is unacceptable.  I will not use a system that can't be updated because you don't like Service Packs and Windows Update.  and money was not spent to not use a laptop.

    I think your tinfoil hat is on too tight.  If it was a problem with that model, then nobldy would be able to update Windows, and there would be thousands of posts all over the Internet.
    Problems are usually caused by software, sometimes installed by the user, and sometimes installed without the users knowledge.  What's the state of your malware protection?  Have you scanned for rootkits?
    You also might want to run the System Update Readiness Tool to find problems.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 Full Version and VISTA Service Pack 2

    I have brought CS4 Full and recall seeing VISTA Service Pack 1 as requirement.  I keep getting prompted by my computer to download and install Service Pack 2.  What to do:
    1.  Install Photoshop on current setup (SP 1) and then upgrade to SP 2
    2.  Install SP 2 and then load Photoshop
    Thanks for any insight.

    SP2 is very stable, uses less ram, and also less hard drive space. If you have not installed CS4 yet just do the SP2 update then CS4. Don't forget to update CS4 to 11.0.1.
    Also either way you want to install works. I installed SP2 with PS CS4 on the system and there were no problems running CS4 afterwards.

  • Windows Vista Service Pack 1

    Company I work for just got some new MSDN CD & DVD's and included in the pack was the official Windows Vista Service Pack 1 DVD. Just curious if anyone else has tried it with Boot Camp and had any issues? Was considering installing it but just wanted to check the forums to see what's up.

    The general public release of Vista SP1 is out today and supposedly available through Windows Update, yet it does not appear as an available update when I check for it. Microsoft says that will happen in a number of cases, one being if there are incompatible drivers installed (which Microsoft knows about presumably). I'm wondering if anyone running Vista via Boot Camp has been able to access SP1 through Windows Update. It can also be downloaded, but I don't want to try it if it's not going to work. Another problem might be that I only have around 1.75 gigabytes left on the Windows partition. Any advice appreciated.
