Sync session failed to finish.

I can't sync my iphone it fails at the last step and says "sync session failed to finish" - help.....

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data doing a reset.
For some users deselect the photo sync option and syncing again after the photos were deleted solved the problem. You may also try to delete the photo cache before. iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder

Getting message "The iPad “Jennifer iPad” could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."  Or it looks like its going to sync but then I see it flash, "Cancelling Sync."  The only thing I can think I have done differently is I purchased a video from iTunes on my iMac.  Want to transfer it to the iPad.
    Thanks... this is so frustrating!!!

Not sure if this will help but I would try disconnecting your iPad then restarting your computer. Also reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appear. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem. After both have started back up reconnect your iPad and try to sync again.
Im presumming here that you had been able to sync your ipad before you purchased the new video. If it fails to sync after the restart I would deselect the new video you purchased and try syncing. It just could be there is something wrong with that video file.

  • The iPod "Username iPod" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish.

    Is there any solution to failed iPod syncs with the following error message;
"The iPod “Username’s iPod” could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
I tried the Apple Support article at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3697 without any improvement at all. I noticed this article had a problem when the sync I executed to remove all the photos from the iPod failed. Then subsequent syncs to resotre the photos also fail.
I have about 15,000 photos, but there should be plenty of room on my 64GB 4th generation iPod.
I started having this problem after ugrading to iOS5. Very, very frustrating.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • The iPad could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish

    Please help.
I've tried resetting my iPad several times and yet when I simply try to sync to iMac and deselect everything but music all I get is the message:
The iPad "J's Ipad" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish.
I've tried everything - any advice would be gratefully received!
    Thanks,
    J.

Make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes. If not update and then try again. Of you still receive this error then attempt to backup the iPad. Then perform a restore from the backup.
The only time I have received this error was because iTunes was not updated to the most recent release.

  • Sync problems with iOS5. "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."

    Hi,
I have updated my iPhone 3GS 32GB to iOS5 and iTunes to version 10.5.
All music, videos and ringtones purchased were deleted on the device and now it is impossible at all to sync the iPhone with the computer, both by USB and Wi Fi.
It always appears at step 5 of the syncronization the message:
"The iPhone “iPhone” could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
Has anyone experienced the same problem and has found the solution or we have to wait a bug fix from Apple?
    Thanks.

Just made one very simple move without having to restore iPhone or reinstall iTunes..
1st step:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 *Read 'in my case' in here first before following this link*
Follow that link to restart (or if necessary) reinstall your Apple mobile device support.
In my case, Leave iPhone connected all the way. I first exit iTunes. Then i stopped the Apple Mobile device support (by following a part on that link above in step 1) which Effectively made my iPhone undetectable on itunes but discoverable by windows as a 'camera device'. Then while device is still connected, i started the Apple mobile dev support again. Now i open itunes and there my iPhone re-appears.
2nd step: After your iphone re-appears on iTunes, press Sync and all is well...
P.S, Mine is iPhone 4 running on iOS 5, iTunes 10.5, Windows 7..

  • "The iPhone could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish"   Help!

So i have multiple devices synced to my macbook pro including an iphone 3g, 4, and 4s. 3g running 4.2.1, 4 running ios 5, and the 4s running ios 5 as well. I've had no trouble in the past month syncing the phones whether it be music, photos, contacts, etc. Now that i have updated my iTunes to the latest software i am getting a message saying "the iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish". It shows this error message with every device that i plug into my mac including ipods. I've tried restoring all these devices, deleted all backups, and unchecked/checked libraries to sync one at a time. Nothing works. Please help!!!!!

Open itunes and connect iphone to itunes, syncing (=failed), exit itunes without unplugging and then open itunes again. if this doesnt work, uncheck apps & photos, sync again, before finish syncing stop it, then check it again.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • I get this when trying to update my iPhone: "could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish." Have lost many apps and date. Hope it's not permanent.

    Help?

I know you said everything is up to date, but just to make sure....iTunes is at least 10.5, right?
Have you tried resetting sync history? (Edit>Preferences>Device>Reset Sync History: It won't delete any of your information)
Also, you can run a iTunes diagnostics test just to make sure everything passes.
I would also try to backup your back up files on an external drive (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2529) and delete the backups in your system, to see if anything in there was stopping the syncs from going through?

  • Upgraded to iOS5, now when I try to sync I get "sync session failed to finish"

This happens on both my iPad 2 and iPhone 3GS. It stopped happening (for the moment) by doing a total reset/restore on the iPad, but now it started on the iPhone and I'm not willing to go through that process again. There is clearly something wrong with the sync process.
This happens whether it is a USB or WiFi sync.
    Please fix this!

Okay, after screaming a huge "Oh Crap" (other words were spoken, but we'll leave it at this) at Apple and everything about them, I calmed down enough to where I think I have it fixed now. The restore is finally up and running after doing the iOS 5 update. Here's what I did which appears to have fixed my restore problem on my phone.
Configured iTunes to not automatically sync or start when the phone is connected.
Closed iTunes and disconnected the phone. I also checked the Windows Task Manager to ensure that iTunes was fully stopped.
Connected the phone back to the USB and manually started iTunes
From the Devices menu, I selected Restore and then picked the most current backup file and started the restore manually.
All of the data within each of my applications is now back to where it should be and the phone is fully restored.
By the way, the indication I had on my iPhone 4 was that all of the restored data after the update was placed in one huge, 18.6GB file in the Other data area. I had to restore the phone to factory defaults which deleted this file, allowing space for the restore and then I completed the steps above.

  • My phone won't sync suddenly with iTunes and I am getting a message thatthe phone is not able to sync because the sync session failed. Help?

When trying to sync my iPhone I am now getting a message that  says "...the iPhone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start. I have been unable to discover what, if anything has changed in my settings or what I need to do differently. Help?

    What fixed it for me:
On your computer, open iTunes > My iPhone (or whatever name you gave your iPhone) > "Music" page
    Uncheck "Sync Music"
    Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
    Let it run and finish
Uncheck the box for every song, playlist, etc.
Click "Sync" button (bottom right) (This step may be unnecessary, but I did it and got the result I wanted.)
    Let it run and finish
Check the boxes for the music you want on your iPhone
    Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
    Let it run and finish
See if that doesn't work for you.  I tried a lot of things that did nothing, but this seems to have fixed it, and quickly.

  • Cannot sync. Error message says "sync session failed to start"

I am not able to sync my ipod. The error message "the ipod could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" keeps popping up. I have tried both syncing it plugged in and by wifi and the same message appears

Same problem today. Took five times to reinstall without any error messages. Apple has posted a way to fix and you should follow their's first. I finally got to upldate correctly by doing their fix but with one difference. I did the following:
    1) Went to the C:\program files (x86)\iTunes and C:\program files\iTunes folders and moved every file ending in .dll to the desktop (even if two files in same location had the same name, just replace)
    2) Restarted computer and still got error message
    3) Uninstalled all apple programs possible in the following order......itunes, apples software update, apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.....all performed using the microsoft control panel
    4) put all the .dll files on the desktop in the trash and emptied (this is a step apple support did not specifically put in their fix but for a final try I wanted to delete everything apple).
    5) Restarted computer.
    6) Re-installed itunes from apple website
No error messages during re-install and was able to open shortcut in one try. Even updated my ipad to make sure everything was working.
