Sync SUN Ldap with Windows

Hi Folks,
We have SUN Java Directory Server 5.2 / MS Windows 2003 server Active Directory. And we have successfully configured Synchronization for Windows. Both LDAP are hierarchical structure.....e.g ou=poeple,ou=unit,ou=dept,o=organization...etc
Now we have to move SUN Java Directory Server 5.2 to flat structure where all the user are under one container (Flat Structure). BUT our Active Directory is still hierarchical....My question is is there any way we can sync Flat LDAP to hierarchical Active Directory...???? or create dynamic sync list.....???
Any thought/suggestion.....ll much appreciate....

I tired once to create two SULs which share the same base DN on the Sun Directory Server side but each SUL remove the users from the other one as they don't exist in their base DN on AD side.
In our case, the synchronization flows from AD to Sun DS. And in the SUL the users from suborganisations of the AD base DN are synchronized into the Sun DS base DN like this:
samaccountname=foo1,ou=bar2,o=users,dc=myorg (AD) -> uid=foo1,ou=people,dc=myorg (DS)
samaccountname=foo2,ou=bar2,o=users,dc=myorg (AD) -> uid=foo2,ou=people,dc=myorg (DS)
So if you select the dc=myorg as base DN for the AD side you will have hierarchical to flat replication from AD to DS. And if you don't want to synchronize everybody, you can still put a filter in the SUL.
If you want to synchronize the other way (flat to hierarchical), I have no idea if it's possible.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer.

Unable to sync 30GB Ipod with Windows Vista

Hi! I just got a new laptop today - it has 64 bit Vista on it. I downloaded the 64 bit version of Itunes and was able to transfer my music to the computer into itunes. But it will not sync. The ipod is formatted with FAT 32 which is what I think maybe the problem but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea how to make this sync? Thanks!

This seems to be a really common problem with Vista. I have been trying for weeks to get it to work; sometimes it syncs a little, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it appears in the Devices list, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it appears for a few seconds and then disappears. I find that, if I disable the Ipod Service and the ItunesHelper service and then restarts Itunes, I get a better, albeit still unreliable, connection but still rarely will it sync.
Tried it with Windows Firewall on, off and all points in between in terms of opening the requisite ports. Tried it with iTunes 7.2 and still no better. Tried resetting the Apple TV numerous times at various stages of this marathon.
What I have NOT tried yet is to completely remove iTunes 7.1.1 AND Quicktime and then reinstall everything and that will be tonight's exercise.
I am currently connecting and syncing quite happily from my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop so there is definitely no problem with the Apple TV.
I will post the results of my iTunes reinstallation attempt once I have it.
Has anyone got a working Vista implementation that we can discuss?

I have been using iPod touch and iTunes with Windows XP - no problems. I now have a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. When I try to sync the iPod with Windows 7 and iTunes it will not transfer all my photographs. What can I do?

When I tried to sync my iPod Touch with my new computer none of the photographs were synced. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. When I did it the first time the photographs were all muddled up in their albums. When I tried to sync again the photographs were all removed. On the third try I received an error message something like 'Unable to sync photographs program cannot be found.' Can anyone help. (It may be to do with Windows 7 and Libraries??)

I read the posting regarding the options on Hotsyncing for Windows 7; however, I have some questions as I have a 64-bit system.
I have a Visor Pro that I'm trying to Sync up with my new laptop which is running Windows 7.
Steps I have taken:
* installed the Visor Palm Desktop 3.0.1 that came with the Visor (which the installation went well)
* The issue arises when I push the "Sync" button on the cradle and the following error message appears "The connection between your handheld computer and the destktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Since I have a 64-bit OS it appears that I have 2 options: 1) bluetooth or 2) Infrared.
I have to admit I don't know know how to do either of these (how can I tell if this Handspring Visor Pro has bluetooth (which I don't it does)?).
Then how about the Infrared option? I see on the PDA it has a red area that one can "beam" info. Is this the same as Infrared or my 2nd option?
I love my Visor and want to continue using it, but need to backup the valuable info!
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Hello lwalbring and welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Visor, as you suspect, does not have Bluetooth, so you must use the IR HotSync option. Since you are using Windows 7 64-bit, I believe that you are going to have to upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.2.2 to make things work from an OS/Driver perspective.
Since you are using such an old device, you are also going to have to download and install the PalmHotSyncSetup Utility from Pimlico. This update turns on support for old Palm OS PDAs in Palm Desktop 6.2.2. Without the update, you won't be able to sync your Visor with Palm Desktop 6.2.2. The software is free and the link is all the way at the bottom of the screen.
Lastly, if your PC doesn't have an IR port on it, you will need to purchase a USB to IR adapter. Some laptops still have IR ports and most desktops don't.
Once you have all the pieces, you'll want to go back to the Windows 7 and Vista HotSync thread again, and follow the directions for setting up and configuring IR HotSyncs.

Syncing iphone calendar with Windows Live Mail

Hi guys - I just upraded to Windows 7 and I'm looking to see if it's possible to sync the calendar with the Windows Live Mail calendar? I'm thinking the only option at this time is MS Outlook, but just thought I'd ask. I searched and read through 3 other similar questions on here but didn't find any answer, hence the new post. Thanks!

Calendar works with Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft Outlook, iCal, MobileMe, and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for enterprise.
Not Windows Calendar.

How to Sync reading list with Windows

Have anyone actually gotten the reading list to sync with Windows (Vista)? I have the Windows iCloud app installed but the reading list syncs randomly. It's more rare that it actually syncs.

Currently, there is no way to sync your reading list between your devices. Since the reading list is just webpages without all of the ads and a more reader-like experience, it's just like a bookmark. But, you have to make all of those reading list items into bookmarks to sync between devices. The reading list is for on-device only.

Sync N8 calender with windows 7 Calender

I am trying to sync my N* with my laptop and cannot get the calender to migrate. N8 tells me I need Windows caslender installed but this is not available on Windows 7, the calender is part of the Windows Live Mail package. Is there a solution?

You can use Outlook to sync.
Or set up a Windows Live account and create a "Mail for Exchange" account on the N8 to sync the Windows Live items (e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks).

WiFi sync of iPad with Windows 7 iTunes

My iPad will not wifi sync with iTunes on my Windows 7 PC. All the relevant boxes in iTunes are ticked. The latest version of iTunes has. been fully uninstalled and installed in the recommended manner several times. I have Kaspersky Internet security and have tried disabling the firewall. I can sync my iPad with iTunes using my usb cable. When my iPad attempts a WiFi sync an icon appears top right and a whirling dot. The dot stops and the icon disappears. Just occasionally ( no specific conditions) the full iPad icon appears as it has been recognised by iTunes.But my iPad will still not WiFi sync with iTunes although I am able to select music or photos to sync and click apply. However the sync fails. Can anyone make a suggestion. I am getting very frustrated. I was going to try using msconfig check for conflicts.

Were you using the latest version of iTunes - 10.1.2.x ?
For Windows machines there is a specific order of deinstallation that must be followed. If you didn't do it the way Apple specifies you may not have actually reinstalled the failing item.

If neither of those items are your problem... I'll have to let someone smarter than myself have a go at it ;-/
