Sync to a new identity

Hi,
Does anyone know if the Blackberry Desktop Manager will allow you to sync to a second identity instead of the main identity?  I'm syncing with Entourage and would like to use a new identity as the main identity is corrupt.  I don't see an option to change identities to sync with.
Thanks,
Pam

  • Sync to a new Entourage Identity?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the Blackberry Desktop Manager will allow you to sync to a second identity instead of the main identity?  I'm syncing with Entourage and would like to use a new identity as the main identity is corrupt.  I don't see an option to change identities to sync with.
    Thanks,

I've seen that, but that doesn't really help.  I really don't want to restore from my other iTunes folder.   I want to start over on my desktop.  I went through my music on my desktop and I have it set up how I want it.  I just don't want to lose my info.  Plus, I don't have Windows Address Book or Outlook on my computer.
    This is my question:
All of my music is on my desktop, which I want to start syncing with.  I backed up my phone on iCloud today. Can I just restore my phone and then retrieve the backup from iCloud?  All of my data (contacts, apps, notes, etc) will be on there, right?  I don't care about the music...I will add that back.  I just don't want to lose my contacts.
If I do restore from iCloud, can I then start syncing with my desktop as if I never synced with my laptop?

  • IPod touch - more elegant way to sync to a new library?

I recently had to change the motherboard in my machine, and took the opportunity to upgrade the machine and put on a fresh install of the OS.  I had expected my iPod touch to work like every other device I've had and just sync with a new install of iTunes (ie pull everything off the device and onto the host machine and be up and running without further action required), but unfortunately it gives me an error saying:
This iPod "..." is synced with another iTunes library.  Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?
When I click cancel it lets me do most of what I'd like, but unfortunately it won't let me do a firmware update (from 4.3.4 to 5.1.1) as it says that:
There are purchased items on the iPod "..." that have not been transferred to your iTunes library...
I have done a backup of the device successfully, so I'm guessing that I can say yes to the 'erase the iPod' prompt and then just restore it when complete, but before I do that I want to be 100% sure that this process will back everything on the device up (ie after the process will the device function identically to what it is doing now).  Unfortunately the backup process just completes without providing any details, so I have no way to verify that and would appreciate more detail on this front (or if it will restore the link to the old iTunes library as well, at which point I will have just wasted my time)?  As such, I havn't been confident enough in this process to go about risking the erasure.
The other thing I am wondering is whether the syncrhonization process and/or backup functionality store system level settings as well or just the data?  For instance, entering my WPA2 key was a royal PITA when I first got the device as the UI isn't really well designed to handle long, cryptic encryption keys (no way to show the characters as you enter it (ie can't double check it before clicking okay), no way to paste it from an email, etc.) and I don't particularly want to go through that process again.
Ideally, I'd like to find a more elegant way around this (ie I'd really like to avoid having to wipe the device) as this is kind of a ridiculous process to have to go through for such a simple task.  If it helps, I still have all of the old files (the new OS and iTunes were installed on a new HDD, so the old iTunes folder/data is still on the old HDD (can't boot to it on the new hardware, but Ican access the raw files)) so if there is some way to convince iTunes to just load up those files and be done with it I'd be very appreciative.

    You need to:
    Transfer iTunes purchases by:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_USiTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer othre music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - To retain app data and other information, connect the iPod to yur computer and make a backup by right clciking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the Backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

  • I have Yahoo Mail synced on my new macbook pro. Keeps asking for password

I have Yahoo Mail synced on my new macbook pro. It it consistently asking to re-enter the password. Does anyone else have this problem? I have deleted it and reinstalled it several times. It did not do this on my previous macbook.

Does anyone else have this problem?
There are several similar reports on this site every day.
I've never used Yahoo mail and my knowledge of it is second-hand. This is what I've been able to gather.
If you have a free Yahoo account, POP access to incoming mail from a mail client such as Apple Mail is not supported. A free account is accessible only through IMAP (and then perhaps only on mobile devices — the documentation is unclear) or the web interface.
As for a paid Yahoo account, or an account through an ISP such as AT&T, you must enable POP access through the web interface. I've seen reports that you must periodically (every two weeks?) log in to the "Manage Account" page on the website to confirm your identity.
I've also seen reports that eliminating all UPPER CASE letters from the password, and shortening it to no more than 7 characters, may help. That's barely, if at all, adequate for security, and you must be sure to choose the password randomly. It should not be easy to type or remember.
That said, so many problems with Yahoo mail are reported that I can't recommend using Mail as a client for it. You might get better results with another mail client, such as Thunderbird. If not, just use the webmail interface. That's how it was designed to work. Better yet, don't use Yahoo at all.

  • How can i sync my iphone with itnes on a new pc.  when i tried to sync it said it will erase the contents on my iphone to sync with the new pc which has no contents

my old pc was running low in memory and i don't have enough space to back up in order to instal iOS5.  so i got a new pc, installed itunes on it but when i tried to sync my iphone on the new pc, it said it'll erase all contents on my iphone and sync with the new pc which has no contents. it says iphone can only sync with one machine.
    can you pls help

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in iTunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • HT2305 I have a new computer with Windows 8 OS.  Do I need to install drivers so that my Ipod Nano will sync with this new computer:

My daughter gave me a new Ipod (Nano) for Christmas.  I had no problem download my songs from my old Ipod (Shuffle) to the new one.  However - since I do not buy songs on a regular basis, I did not buy a new song until 4/29/13.  Now for information...sometime in March my old laptop died, completely.  I had to go buy a new one - which I did and this new one has Windows 8 Operating System on it (which I hate, btw).
Now, when I bout a song on Tuesday, the song did not go to my new Ipod.   I tried everything and finally had to talk to a tech - who was very kind in helping me and we did get all my songs from Itunes to this new computer.  I thought the song I bought would then go on the Ipod - but it did not.  I had already hung up from the tech - since we had been talking on the phone for about an hour.  He informed me that he was giving me a "courtesy break" because it has been over 90 days since my new Ipod was purchased ---- just my darn luck!
Anyway, I have figured out on my own that the new Ipod Nano is not synced with the new laptop with Windows 8.  I have been trying for the last 2 hours to get it to do so and in doing so, found out that Windows 8 is not mentioned in any of the help forums.  So...my question is:  Do I need to install drivers on the computer or what?  I will not be purchasing anymore music from Itunes until I get this matter resolved.  Any help will be apreciated. Thank you.

  • Syncing iPhone to new iTunes w/o iTunes library file

My MBP's hard drive died and I got it replaced, so it's good as new - everything was clean, iTunes was empty, etc. I'm filling up the computer again, and I realised that I backed up all my music (the mp3 files/iTunes media folder), but I stupidly forgot to back up the iTunes library file.
So I have my iTunes filled with songs but no play count, playlists etc. All the playlists and information, however, still exist in my iPhone 4, which I haven't synced to my new laptop yet.
I'm preeetty sure because of my ****-up with not saving the library file, there's no way, but I still have to ask: is there any way to sync the song data and playlists from the iPhone back into iTunes? It's not the end of the world if I can't, but I built up all the playcounts, playlists, mixtapes over the past few years and I'm a little sad to lose them.

" This iphone already has content on it but I want to add songs from my old computer."
You cannot do this.  You can have content from one and only one computer at a time on the iphone.
Have you tried restoring the iphone?

  • I have recently copied my iTunes to a new computer using the instructions from Apple site, via an external drive. My iPod will not sync on the new computer. The option to sync automatically is greyed out and it won't let me set it. How do I resolve?

I have recently installed iTunes on a new Windows 8 laptop and copied from my old XP system using an external drive. This all went ok. The problem is that i can't get my iPod classic to sync on the new laptop. I did a factory reset and re-install. It still won't sync. When I hit the 'sync' icon it does nothing. In the Options screen the option to automatically sync is greyed out and doesn't allow me to enter anything in the box. How can i resolve this?

You need iTunes on the computer. There is no iTunes for your phone. See:

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

  • 2 questions; how to erase "other memory" on iphone 5 and how to sync to a new computer

Apple support is failing to help my issues so I thought its best to turn to the community. OK so I've talked to Apple before about my "other memory" and I performed a soft reset on my phone and it decreased other memory by maybe a gig. A month later now its higher than it was before at over 5.6 gigs, any way how to make it as little as possible?
Also I just got a new macbook pro and I use to sync my iphone 5 to my macbook (2008), how do I make my macbook pro my primary itunes and still keep all my info on my phone? My new macbook pro itunes says its backed up, but when I plug it in it won't sync any new songs or app data to my itunes, etc.
Any help with these issues will much be appreciated!!

"Other" is all of the data for all of the built in apps. If you delete its contents all of your built in app data will disappear. Some of what is contained in other:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog
Probably a few I've missed. There was a problem in an earlier version where deleted MMS messages left behind their attachments, but that has been fixed as of 6.1. Some people suggest deleting your music on the phone. DON'T DO IT! The reason that deleting music recovers some Other space is because it deletes cover art. But is also screws up your music, which will no longer play correctly.
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 1 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Your Other is so large, however, that there may be corrupt data contained in it (unless you send a lot of MMS messages with large attachments). If this is the case you should restore the phone as New.

For your other question, the easiest way is to copy your iTunes library folder from the old computer to the new computer. For the hard way, see: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • My iPod classic 7th Gen  will not sync with my new computer. itunes is installed and updated.

    fellow iPod classic owners,
the problem is a failure to sync with the new computer. the conditions are as follows: the new computer is a pc. it has the latest iTunes software installed. the iPod is installed properly. i'm fully recognized by my iTunes account. there is nothing lacking other than my iPod's refusal to sync with my new computer. what have i left undone? i could be suffering from a duh, but i'm not the only one. nothing in the apple world is as difficult as this one is, at least on the surface. if it were that simple an issue, no one would be having any problems with it. any more information needed can be provided by request. by the way, the computer being used has been authorized. that is a non-issue.
                                                                                                                 your help is appreciated,

I believe the IPOD (Classic) uses USB 2.0,  and my new laptop uses USB 3.0.  I think they are not compatable because of this.  If you find a solution to this please let me know.

    Hi,
    You have 2 solutions:
1 - You can use 2 differents icloud account
2 - You use the same account but you don't sync yours contacts.
You configure that in  Settings > icloud
You activate or desactivate what you want.
    Have a nice day.
