Sync used new iPad with iTunes w/o setting as new device or restoring

Hi,
few weeks after using new iPad that never synced with iTunes (backing up to iCloud), i want to sync iBooks and Aperture photos from iTunes library.
But, when i connect my iPad to iTunes using usb cable, there are only two choices: Set as new device or restore from older backup. I dont want to sync anything but iBooks and photos. What could i do?

Hmm, is Whitson's iPad the current name of the device, or an earlier iPad? Does that image you've shown occupy the entire iTunes window or is the usual column of library sources and playlists shown down the left-hand side. If the list is there then the iPad should appear as a device that you can right/option/cmd-click on. Failing that with all your purchases having come from the store you should be able to set up as new device and then reacquire all your store content but that would lose any data and settings. I suppose that after restoring as new, then backing up to the machine, you could then try restoring the backup from the cloud, and then if needed go through the original process as I suggested.
You might find that if you opt to set up as new nothing actually changes until you choose some content to sync, which may give you the opportunity to use the process I've previously outlined. Sorry I can't be clearer but I know that method has worked for a few people who have had to switch computers after a crash. I'm not personally familiar with the process under your precise circumstances.
The "cut the cord" feature which allowed you to set up the device without connecting to a computer is all well and good but if you have to go through this sort of effort when the time comes that you want to hook up your device to a library on your computer it becomes a complete nightmare.

  • New iPad with iTunes 10.3.1 and Snow Leopard?

Just got a new iPad (iPad "3") and want to transfer a bunch of photos from my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.3.1--
CAN I DO THIS using the cable connector (not WiFi)?  I do this every day with my iPod Touch (Gen 1, Dec 2007 running iOS 3.1.3).  I will be moving to Mac OS Lion (10.7.3) soon - but not immediately.
    Thanks for any feedback here.
    Best regards,

The new iPad needs iTunes 10.6+ (from here). You could use a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos over via your wifi network, but they will only go into the Camera Roll album - though you can then 'copy' them into new albums.

  • Can I sync my work iPad with iTunes at home without affecting my work email and contacts?

Does anyone know if I sync my work iPad with my home iTunes account will my work email etc be effected or deleted??
    thanks

You may use your own content purchased through the iTunes stores on any device that you own or that is in your control. So, as long as you are not sharing the iPad 2 with other employees, you can sync it with your home computer. It is a bad idea to sync the iPad to both computers, as each will completely erase what the other computer synced before syncing.

  • Sync new iPad with iTunes

When I am trying to sync my new iPad the new one asks for a password.  I cannot use my current iPad password, nor my ITunes password and it keeps resetting.

  • Spinning wheel in Photos tab when syncing iPhone or iPad with iTunes

I can't be certain when this started, but when I attempt to sync both my iPad and iPhone photos through iTunes, I'm not presented with any options, just a spinning wheel that never finishes loading. I've looked in multiple discussions with similar problems but none of the solutions seem to help. So far, I've tried:
    Different USB cable.
Creating new "dummy" libraries in both Aperture and iPhoto (local disks, not on network disks).
    Rebooting
    Restarting devices
    Permissions repair
Repairing permissions in the Aperture library
    Rebulidng the iPhoto database.
Deleting the iPod Photo Cache inside the Aperture library (which doesn't seem to get rebuilt)
Updating the software.I was using 10.9.2 and 11.1.5 iTunes, but upgrading using the Mavericks public beta hoping that would fix it. It did not.
In iTunes, going to File-->Home Sharing-->Choose Photos to share with AppleTV brings up the same spinning wheel.
Deleting all kinds of preferences, com.apple.itunes, etc.
Oddly enough, my wife's user account which has its own iPad and iPhone synced with its own iPhoto library is doing the exact same thing.
I've spent hours on this and have no idea what else to do. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

I think I fixed it thanks to the answers here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/10331322?messageID=10331322#10331322?messa geID=10331322
It involves reloading the iLifeMediaBrowser from the Mavericks installer.

  • Syncing iPhone and iPad with iTunes

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 which I sync to the same iTunes on my home PC. Every time I connect my iPhone to my iTunes, it invariably gets synced with whatever apps, music, movies and books which I synced to my iPad 2.   How do I configure my iTunes in such a way that I sync different sets of apps, movies, music, etc. to both my iPhone and iPad? Thank you.

  • We have stopped getting any software updates, and now we can't sync our new iPad with iTunes, b/c it won't update.  It says it's up to date, but it's still on a 10 version.

Our computer won't update.  We can't hook up a new printer, or hook up any new i-devices, b/c the software updates are not working.

Backup just your users files off the machine before doing anything and unmount and disconnect the drive.
Upgrade to Snow Leopard and run the Software update until clear
Provided your machine is working good, Snow Leopard is a darn good upgrade for a 10.5 box. Especially if it's freshly installed.
Do not upgrade that older machine to OS X 10.7 or later (or to Mavericks 10.9) it's too out of date (old), it will be slow and your PPC based software will no longer work. (will under Snow Leopard/Rosetta)
Currently 10.6.8 is fine with your iOS devices and geting security updates, we still have 25% OS X market share still, but eventually a new machine is likely in order for you soon.
I advise breaking in a new Mavericks 10.9 machine, avoid upgrading that older one past 10.7, use it for backup or sell it.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still

  • I use multiple libraries with itunes - should I create a new library for a 2nd iphone

I use multiple iTunes libraries to manage multiple devices from the same PC.  I'm purchasing an iPhone 6 and currently have a library for my iPhone 4.  Would I create a new library for this new device?  Also, to restore all content to my new phone, Will this restore be done from the existing iPhone 4 library?  Is this process documented?

I can't address specific issues regarding iPhones, but in general you can manage multiple iDevices from a single iTunes library.  The test approach is to maintain one or more playlists for each iDevice you use, and configure the latter to sync only from the relevant playlists:

  • Cannot sync the ipad with iTunes

I synced the new iPad with iTunes and every photo I had on the Mac (I didn't know that I wouldn't be ask first) went to the iPad.  Now I cannot sync the iPad to delete the photos because there is not enough memory to properly sync with iTunes.  Can anyone help me correct this?

This is not selected by itself - this is selected under the Photos tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes, which must be manually selected or is selected automatically when transferring the backup from another iOS device to the iPad if this is selected under the Photos tab for the other iOS device.
Have you tried deselecting Sync Photos under the Photos tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes?

Use iCloud to backup the iPad. Many users don't use their iPads with iTunes at all anymore. Personally, I would never rely only on iCloud, but I would guess that millions of iOS users are now using only iCloud and not backing up with iTunes at all.

My wife had an iPad for a year and synced to our computer with no problem.  I recently received an ipad2 and when I tried to sync using separate apple and iTunes passwords, under her computer user name, it appears I over-road her account and synced all her apps with my apps on my iPad.  I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync.  I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library.  How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • HT1386 trying to sync my ipad with itunes and keep getting a message that itunes on my ipad needs to be v10.7 but ipad is brand new

I am trying to sync my brand new ipad with my imac (itunes) and i keep getting a message to update itunes on my ipad.  how do i update software on my ipad? my ipad device is not displaying in itunes on my imac to be able to sync.  Can anyone advise?

That message refers to iTunes on the computer and not anything on the iPad. If you're using a Mac, it needs to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM.

If it's not too late, see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. As long as you have a backup of the device when the device still held your photos you should stand a chance of recovering them using a tool such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

iPad can connect only in one iTunes Library. If you want to connect it to a iTunes Library then you have to erase it. You can erase it from iTunes. Make sure you iPad doesn't have a password, or if it has a password make sure that you connect to the computer and enter the password of your iPad
