Sync with an updated computer?
Hello. I hope someone in the forum can help me with this...
Recently my laptop has been upgraded. In the process, the hard drive was wiped and Windows 7 installed. Prior to this, I had saved all of my files onto an external hard drive.
Now, with the updated laptop, when I attach my ipod touch (8gb, 3rd generation, still on software 4.3.5), it will not sync properly. It runs through a "syncing 1 of 1" whereas it used to do "syncing item 1 of 4" to begin the sync process.
- I have re-downloaded iTunes to the updated computer
- I have transferred my iTunes library to the computer from my external hard drive
Through iTunes, I am able to view my iTouch; however I have no editing capabilities (like moving apps from one screen to another, deleting them, etc).
How can I regain the ability to fully use/modify/sync/etc my iTouch on the computer, without losing the information saved in the apps (I really don't want to start my Nike Training Club back at 0 minutes of working out!!!).
Thanks so much for any help that the community can provide!
Hello Hilda Louise
Start with the article below to get your iPhone to be recognized in iTunes again. Then you will probably need to restore it to get it back up and running.

fellow iPod classic owners,
the problem is a failure to sync with the new computer. the conditions are as follows: the new computer is a pc. it has the latest iTunes software installed. the iPod is installed properly. i'm fully recognized by my iTunes account. there is nothing lacking other than my iPod's refusal to sync with my new computer. what have i left undone? i could be suffering from a duh, but i'm not the only one. nothing in the apple world is as difficult as this one is, at least on the surface. if it were that simple an issue, no one would be having any problems with it. any more information needed can be provided by request. by the way, the computer being used has been authorized. that is a non-issue.
your help is appreciated,
hardphil.I believe the IPOD (Classic) uses USB 2.0, and my new laptop uses USB 3.0. I think they are not compatable because of this. If you find a solution to this please let me know.
Thanks, -
I just decomissioned my windows pc in favor of a new (to me) MacBook Pro. When I attempt to sync my iPad I get a warning that I will erase all content on the ipad in order to sync with the new computer. How do avoid erasing all the data on the iPad, and get the iPad and the new Mac/iTunes to be friends?
Best option is to use Windows Migration Assistant as Ralph noted.
Here's a better (updated) link to Windows Migration Assistant for Lion -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796
Or if you only want iTunes (Migration Assistant let's you choose) copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from your PC to /Music/ on the Mac.
FYI: A MacBook is not a PowerBook. PowerBooks were discontinued in 2005. -
I have forgotten my appleID password and the email it is linked to is deactivated, security questions aren't working. This is on my iPhone and iTunes acs so I can't sync with my new computer. How do I merge AppleID accounts and shut down the old one (when I have no password and the security questions aren't working?)
You cannot merge Apple ID accounts, that has never been supported.
You can contact the Apple ID Security folks per the listing in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 and they can help reset security questions and get the account working. -

I wish to transfer all the music on my ipod (synced with my home computer) to my itunes on my work computer. Is this possible? I am concerned if I plug my ipod into the work computer, which has itunes but no music content, that it will automatically sync and wipe all the content from ipod. Can anyone advise?
Only if you use a third-party utility such as Phone to PC and only if you use the same Apple ID for your other computer.

I've recently purchased a macbook but my iphone 4 is synced with another computer. How can I sync with my new computer and keep my information?
Sync the iTunes content from the iPhone to the new computer.
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
And... launch iTunes on the new computer. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer. -
How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (Windows8).? It synced with my old computer (WindowsXP) but will not do so on the new computer?
Hi Lechwe,
I had this issue recently, due to changing HD for an SSD.
In my case, since the library in my iPod was synced to the HD it was not syncing to the library in the SSD, though they were the same (had the same contents).
I found there's this checkbox in iTunes > iPod > [Settings] Music, called "Sync Music". Mine was unchecked, I guess due to iPod being synced to the old library. I marked the checkbox and clicked then in Sync. iTunes asked me if I was sure I wanted to sync the iPod with the "new" library, i clicked yes, and the it started determining the song to sync. Since the library was essentially the same (just a couple songs more in the new one), it synced the couple new songs and that was it.
Hope it helps!
Regards,
Awlo. -
I no longer have access to the computer to which my iPod touch is synced. Can I de-sync it without accessing said computer and set up a sync with my new computer without losing all my purchases?
You can transfer Itunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
You can transfer other stuff with the info provided in this previous discussion:
Best iPod to PC
You can also redownload apps at no additional cost:
How to redownload purchased apps from the App Store
Once you get the stuff in the iTunes library of you new computer let iTunes erase your iPod and replace its contents with what is now in your iTunes library. -

How to get my iPhone to sync with a new computer after the home computer crashes?
My iPhone was synced with my work computer. That computer crashed now I am not able to get any other computer to recognize my iPhone, so it is not fully functional, as I can't add music, download large apps, etc. Please help!
Nothing happens, I only get the pop up window about transferring pics, so it obviously recognizes the plug-in, but in iTunes, nothing happens, my iPhione doesn't appear on the left side, so I can't snyc it:(

I have an iPhone and when I got it, I had a Toshiba laptop. Now I have a MacBook Pro, but when I try to wi-fi sync my iphone and new computer, it doesn't work because on my iphone it is still trying to sync with my old computer. How I can fix this?
Move the content from the old computer to the new computer.
Sync the iPhone via cable to the new computer and enable Wi-Fi syncing.
It should now be possible to sync via Wi-Fi to the new computer. -
