Sync with Google missing in Address Book

Hi there,
My friend purchased Android phone and wants to sync it with iMac Address Book. Procedure is to sync it with GMail account and then it automatically syncs it with a phone.
Sync utility in Address Book is found under PREFERENCES > SYNC WITH GOOGLE. However it is not there! It is there on my 3 iMacs and laptop but it is not there in his iMac. We run update and it picked up Java and some other update but still no that utility. OS X is version 10.5.8 and as I said is all up to date.
How to get that utility so it exists in Address Book?
Thank you,
Zack

I think yes, probably using pacifist to extract address book from the original disc, then you'd need to update it.
I haven't tried this so maybe another contributor can help with the procedure.

  • Iphone no sync with itunes 7.6 & address book or calendar

iphone 1.1.3 will not sync with itunes 7.6 and address book, or calendar.
iphone will not sync to any of the mac I have, it will start to sync when I choose address, calendar, etc, and quit in a few seconds, with no sync.
I tried all the recommendations, and as well re-installing clean itunes. Some folks attributed this to the latest Mac OS 10.5.2 upgrade. In any case, anybody could help please, the frustration level is all time high.
    Thanks, Gabriel

yes it is, if you go to www.iphoneatlas.com/ among other search on google, you will find that there are a lot of folks with the same problem, if you go to macnn web site, as well there are comments.
I restored the iphone, re-installed itunes more than a couple of times, use two different macs, different cables. Follow the recommendations on this site and others. Nothing seems to work. Therefore I assumed that there is something on the upgrade 10.5.2 that screw up the sync. That is the feeling of the rest of the folks that have the same issue and comments on macnn and iphoneatlas.
    Thanks for responding, Gabriel

  • Do I want to sync with Outlook or Windows address book?

I currently have all of my contacts in outlook, but I never use outlook at all.
Is there anything in iTunes that allows you to save and sync your contacts?
Or do you always have to use outlook?
    Whats this Windows address book?
Perhaps that might work better for me since I am not going to be using outlook?

With Windows, the supported applications for syncing contact information is Outlook 2003 or 2007, or the Windows Address Book or Windows Contacts - which is the address book used by Outlook Express with XP, and with Windows Mail with Vista - which is the name change for Outlook Express with Vista.
Is there anything in iTunes that allows you to save and sync your contacts?
iTunes serves as the conduit only for syncing contact information between your iPhone and the supported application on your computer.

I've read your posts guys. Thanks for your speculation on the "synchronizing with Google" problem. I've just returned to Apple after a ten year affair with Microsoft. It confirms what I suspect but don't technically understand. Basically, Apple's programming is undernourished. Applications seem to be fed into the market without thorough testing or with obvious neglect for certain Apple products. If a product is a big seller then Apple concentrate on the iPhone, for example.
After ten years away from Apple, I'm also surprised to find that Apple seem to expect users to rely on discussion boards rather than develop and publish comprehensive, extensively searchable user guides. Apple's present level of support discourages me from advancing my use of Apple applications. The saving grace is bootcamp. Windows runs better on my Macbook than my PC.
So, after heralding Apple for twenty years, I'm disappointed; particularly in today's business world where "How" you do business, how you sell and support product is more important than "What" you sell.

  • Sync with Google - maintain Company classification?

My syncing of Google contacts and Address Book seems to work ok but I classified my contacts as people or companies in Address Book and then found that when they were imported into Google (after deleting all existing Google Contacts) the companies were duplicated both in the first line and in the company line. I then deleted all the first line duplications for Companies and synced. I then lost all the Company classifications in Address Book.
Does anybody know how to prevent this?

  • Address Book sync with Google

I updated my system software to 10.6.4 when the upgrade was released recently and have run into a strange glitch. My Address Book had been set up to sync with Google (in Preferences>Accounts) in previous versions of the software, and it worked without a hitch. After the system software upgrade, however, the sync no longer works. When I check the box next to 'Synchronize with Google', update an address, and then quit, the Address Book forgets the preference and unchecks the box. The result is that when I restart Address Book and go to the preferences, the Google sync box is unchecked.
I've searched around various help forums looking for a fix to this, but have yet to find any workaround.

    +1

  • Address Book Sync with Google Contacts across computers (instead of iCloud with Lion)?

I am trying to get ready for the port to iCloud and i am going to do this while still on Snow Leopard per Roger Wilmut's fantastic documentation. It appear to me I will simply lose Bookmark Sync (until I move to Mountail Lion) which is a small(ish) price to pay to not have to deal with an upgrade at the moment.
The question I am hoping to answer is if it will be possible to SYNC MY CONTACTS across my devices (MacBookPro, MacPro and iPhone) using the Sync with Google Contacts Option in Address Book Preferences.
Does anyone know if checking this option will put these contacts on both of my Machines and on my iPhone?
ALSO, does anyone know if it is possible to put the ADDRESS BOOK CONTACTS in one folder and the GOOGLE CONTACTS in another folder so they don't all get mixed up together?
    TIA

I can't even get manual Google syncing to work with iCloud enabled. Without iCloud, everything works fine.

  • Address Book sync with Google Contacts problem

After creating a Google Apps account for my new domain, I've configured my Address Book application on my Mac-book Air to sync with Google. I created a contact on the Mac-Book and after a sync I saw it in Google's web client. I created a contact on Google's web client and after a sync it appeared in in Address Book.
After two weeks, the sync stopped working. I didn't changed nothing on the computer. Suddenly I noticed that the contacts sync doesn't work anymore.
iCal and Mail are still working great. the problem is only with Address Book.
I searched Google Help. I reset the Sync Services, soft and hard, still not working. I'm not using iCloud or any other sync.
    Do you have any idea?

    can anyone answer this?
at some point, I remember being able to do this. 10.5.x maybe? With 10.6 . . . .
I do recall, however, that I stopped doing it because the sync went haywire. I did it the other way around: I have all my contacts in Address Book, so I exported them and uploaded the vCards to Gmail, after deleting all Gmail contacts. That's not such a great option. Surely this is well-automated by now?

  • No option to sync with google in address book

Hi there, in address book > preferences > general I don't seem to have an option to sync with google. I do however have the option to sync with mobile me, exchange, and yahoo.
Does anyone know why this may be. In address book help > sync it certainly seems to be an option.
    Thanks

I googled it up and found the instructions to enable google Address Book sync:

I tried it and it worked for me.

  • Address Book won't sync with Google Contacts

I enabled Google Contacts syncing in Address Book but nothing ever happens. There is no button in the toolbar or anything. Any ideas?

The background gsync service is broken in 10.6 There are two errors that I will post letter(not at my mac) but needless to say. 1: The task scheduler(launchd) is not lading the job. (It should load the gsync and run it every 15 minutes or so.) 2: Manually running the gsync process from a terminal generates a second error and the contacts never sync.
As a minor workaround you can change your iPhone to use the new Google Mobile Sync (http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=apple) but this doesn't help with the OS X address book.

  • Address Book fails to sync with Google

I am presently syncing my macbook's address book to my google contacts - and this has been working perfectly well up until about a month ago. If I made a change on my android based phone, the changes appeared on gmail contacts - as well as my macbook address book. Any changes from my macbook appeared on my phone - life was great. I recently discovered that my macbook address book was not receiving changes, or updating gmail with any changes. Address Book > Preferences > Accounts > all options were deselected. I selected Synchronize with Google > Configure. I enter my account Google Account and Password and the only thing that happens is "Connecting to Google..." - and that's where it sits. I did a bit of research and found that things were working prior to a MobileMe upgrade - although that is a rough estimate of the last time things were working. I've repaired permissions (as suggested somewhere,) verified my mac is up to date (10.6.6 - and no updates available,) configured MobileMe to sync the contacts only (changes appear correctly on the mobileme site. If I select the Synchronize with Google checkbox and don't attempt to configure - still won't sync. Not sure what else I can do?

I'm also experiencing the exact same thing.... Can't seem to figure it out.

  • Is there a trick to forcing Address Book to update/sync with Google?

I cannot figure out how to force Address Book to update / sync with Google. Every time I go into Address Book preferences and check the box for Google synchronization and type in my information it shows that it is connecting. But the contacts do not update. Then when I close Address Book and open up preferences again, the checkmark for Google synchronization is gone. This happens on my Mac Pro tower and also on my MacBook Air -- both are running OSX 10.6.4. Any ideas?

Try opening up iSync in Applications. Go into preferences and make sure the "Show in Menu Bar" option is selected.
Then you can click iSync in the menu bar and tell it to Sync Now. Might help?
