SYNC WITHOUT ERASING ?!?

I recently had to install itunes on a new computer. I'm trying to sync my 3gs iphone but don't want itunes to erase all my purchased content.
I have not connected my iphone to a itunes in several months and have a ton of music and apps that I downloaded thru wi-fi. I get the warning messages that all content will be erased if I try to sync....What's up with this?? I know you can't have more than one computer for the itunes but there must be a solution to this.
Any help is mucho appreciated!!!

So if I complete those two tasks, I should be able to sync and update my iphone without itunes erasing anything?
If the iPhone only contains content from the iTunes Store, yes. The Transfer Purchases option won't move content from elsewhere.

My hard drive crashed on my imac and was replaced. I have no iphone backup. How do I sync without erasing my iphone?

    You don't.
The iPhone is not a backup device. You can use File>Transfer purchases in iTunes to extract media and apps purchased from the iTunes store. If you have music on your phone that came from other sources, you will need to retrieve the originals or purchase 3rd party software to extract it from the phone.

  • IPhone 6 Plus will not allow sync without erasing content

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 6 Plus towards the end of 2014. My iPhone 5 had always been synced with my former Windows laptop, however I upgraded to a Macbook Pro in mid 2014. My iPhone 6 Plus has never been synced with or even plugged into my old Windows, however I find now that when I try to sync music to my iPhone 6 Plus it will not allow me to do so without erasing my entire phone as a pop up claims my new iPhone is synced to my former Windows laptop, which is completely not the case. I have set up my iPhone 6 Plus on this Macbook, saved backups and installed updates with absolutely no problem until now. I refuse to erase the contents of my phone as I know I have never used the iPhone on the computer it claims I am synced with.
When setting up my iPhone I have restored from a backup of the 5 that was saved onto my new Macbook. The 5 had been synced with my Windows laptop, so is it because of using this backup that my phone cannot sync? Is there any way to avoid erasing my iPhone 6 Plus?

its saying it was previously synced with windows because of the backup. if you don't have anything synced from another computer then you have nothing to worry about. you can just erase because its only going to erase info that was synced from other computer and since you have no info it won't have anything to erase

  • Syncing without erasing with a twist help please

my computer crashed, big time the other day, deleting all my music and itunes. i downloaded itunes again, but don't have the time to go find all the songs i had on my phone and re-download, however it will not let me sync new songs without erasing dating, i have tried just sync checked items, but they do not go on to my phone.
how do i sync the new songs without having to delete or re-download my old ones (Over 4gb worth of songs.)
    please help

The iPhone is designed to sync iTunes media content (music, videos, etc.) with one and only one iTunes Library, and the sync is one way by design (from computer to iPhone). Connecting to a reformatted hard drive is like connecting to a 'new' computer and the content will be erased and replaced. You cannot transfer music from the iPhone to the computer with iTunes - the iPhone is not a backup device. If you have a backup of your iTunes library on an external hard drive, restore from that. Else, you may want to google TouchCopy.

  • How can I redirect iTunes to my ebooks after it lost track of them, so I can get back in sync without erasing the books (and notes) on my iPad?

What I need is for my books which are on my iPad to be synced to my mac, and not vice versa.
The iTunes library lost track of all of my media. Everything's still there and for songs its no big deal to simply reimport (from the directory which never moved, but which iTunes stopped pointing to for some reason.) But for my books, which have notes and highlights, I don't want to erase whats on my iPad and resync with the current state of my books on my mac

I will address your second question.
First, make sure your iPhone and iPad have absolutely identical Apple IDs.  If they do, use that Apple ID in Settings > iCloud on your iPhone to select the "Notes" option.  Lo and behold, all your iCloud notes should appear on your iPhone.

  • Needing help with syncing without erasing PLEASE!!

My computer had to be reset to factory settings. I re-downloaded itunes and attempted to sync my ipad but it says it will erase my ipad & replace with whats in the itunes since it is synced with another library. This is the same computer that it was synced with originally but as i said i had to reset it. I have transfered all my purchases but I have a lot of music and some movies that i didnt purchase that i would like to keep. I checked the manually manage music box but it still says the same thing. Can anyone help please???!!!!

    You should be able to:
Disable automatic syncing of devices (Edit > Preferences > Devices)
Backup the device to the new installation (Right-click device > Back Up)
Transfer your purchases into your authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in the apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • IPhone, iPod and iPad to MacBook sync without erasing data

I'm a happy owner of MacBook Pro now.
But I stuck with a problem of transfering my music, playliss, photos, apps and books from my iOS devises (iPhone, iPod and iPad).
I know that iTunes desined to avoid of syncing one devise with two or more computers to keep the copyrights. But I have many media I didn't purchased on iTunes, I had it from my CDs and DVDs. But I've got quite a situation that my old PC broke down and erased all its data. So I can't just sync my old laptop with the new one. So, how to copy files from my iOS devices to my Mac?
    Please, help!

If you copied your iTunes library from your Mac to your PC per the instructions included with this link, any music that was purchased from the iTunes store with your iPhone was in your iTunes library on your Mac before being transferred to your PC and the same for any 3rd party apps downloaded/installed direct with your iPhone, and you have authorized the PC with your iTunes account with iTunes, no iTunes content on your iPhone should be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your PC.

Not sure how restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup lost everything on your iPhone - with your iPhone being completely erased of all data unless there was a major problem with your iPhone's backup. No iTunes content on your iPhone is included with your iPhone's backup, and no photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are included with your iPhone's backup. All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and all photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer.
What isn't working correctly in regards to your MobileMe account exactly after which update?
With Windows, you can sync your MobileMe contacts and calendar events with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010. Do you have Outlook available on your PC and if so, have you downloaded the Windows MobileMe Control Panel to set up syncing Outlook with your MobileMe online calendar and address book?

  • No longer access to old PC, getting iTunes to sync without erasing ipod?

I mislaid my Ipod and have since changed computers and no longer have access to the old hard drive. How do I get iTunes on my new Pc to recognise the tracks on my ipod?

Easiest way would be to download a utility that does it for you.
For a utility, you should try YamiPod (http://www.yamipod.com).

  • Imac hard drive died and was replaced by apple.  Data lost but is remains on ipads.  Computer address is different so can't sync without erasing ipad data (which I need back on repaired imac).  How do I do this?

How do I transfer data from and Ipad/iphone to an imac with a different address then initally setup with?  Our hard drive died and was replaced free of charge by Apple, our data was lost on the hard drive but exists on our small devices.

Since Apple replaced the hard drive does that mean you have AppleCare? If so, call them. If not, you must have paid pretty good to get it replaced and so I would think you have some possible right to ask a followup question at the store that did it.

  • Hard drive crashed on my MacBook pro and had to replace drive and logic board.  When I connect my iPhone and try to sync I get a dialog box stating iPhone is synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?  How do I sync with iTunes without erasing?

Hard drive crashed and had to replace drive and logic board on my MacBook pro.  After Install tried to sync with my iPhone and a dialog box pops up stating "this iPhone synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?".  I checked the manually manage music and videos box because I don't want all my wife's pics and music on my iPhone.  How do I Sync without erasing what I have on my iPhone???

    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • Adding photos without erasing content

We manually manage my daughter's iPod on our main Mac, as far as her music goes. She now wants to add a few photos, which of course can't be done manually. I'm concerned that even though we have the 'manage things manually' check box still ticked, going to the Photos tab, checking the 'sync' box and attempting to sync a folder of photos will erase everything else. Am I correct in this assumption?

The remaining answer: I just switched my ipod to "manual managing music" and tried to add some photos I took today. I would have lost my pictures on the ipod if I had applied syncing the new ones, because I changed my Aperture library and the pictures on the ipod where missing in the new library.
So I guess you would not lose pictures if you have the same pictures still in your folder/library on your computer and just add a new folder to sync. But pictures not being present on your Mac and showing up on your daughters ipod will be deleted. Since you can't download the pictures back to your Mac, unless you use 3rd party software like http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/ , you can't sync without erasing the photos on the ipod.

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

I had my ipod synced to an old computer that I no longer have how can i get all my stuff on the new itunes without erasing it

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.
