Synced iPhone shows song titles but says "No Music"

I'm having a few problems upgrading to iCloud and understanding iTunes role in it.
I had hoped that all my iTunes purchases and other music files were now in the cloud (I'd sent em there from iTunes!) and I could now get them onto iPhone. I couldn't work out how to do this, other than Home Sharing. When I synced the old way by connecting to my mac, it appeared to copy all the files to the iPhone, and the titles are all there, but when I try to play the songs, it says "No Music".
I can't work it out!
Any ideas, or links to comprehensive guides to the iTunes / iCloud interface?

I can confirm this as well. My songs and videos and podcasts were loaded yesterday, but after removing from the dock after overnight charging this morning, the iPod function indicated that there was no content, even though the "About.." option in the iPhone settings showed all of the iPhone space was being utilized but also reported 0 songs and 0 videos. After powering the iPhone off (hold the sleep button until the red power off slider appears and turn off) and powering back on, essentially a reboot, all of my song and video content reappears. Maybe it has something to do with the overnight docking/sync and interaction with iTunes?
Hopefully others who experience this can find this post before they lose hope. Other than this glitch, the iPhone has been spectacular...like an artifact from the future.

Are you saying that the tick-box shown in my screenshot, isn't there? (Yes, this is iTunes 11 - I've turned on the sidebar and the Menu bar. So you can see, this is a CD in my drive that we're looking at.)
If it isn't, go to Edit/Preferences/General and turn on the tick-box box
You can show the Menu Bar (with Edit on it) by using CTRL + B

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. And then reboot your computer.
See if that fixes your problem.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
Some basic printer troubleshooting steps before worrying about a printer driver:
    1. Have you tried turning the printer off and back on?
2A. Is the printer attached with a cable?
If yes, have you tried unplugging and re-plugging both ends of the printer cable?
If that does not help, can you test the printer with another cable?
2B. If your printer is not connected to the computer with a cable, have you tried restarting your printer (assuming wireless connection)?
Have you tried restarting your wireless router?
    3. Have you tried restarting your MacBook? (Be sure to save your work first.)
    4. Does the printer have ink? (Doesn't usually generate a 'communications error' though)
    5. Have you updated OS X or the program you're trying to print from recently?

  • Why only videos on iphone can be deleted but not the music or sync photos?

Why only videos on iphone can be deleted but not the music or sync photos?

Because that is the design of the iphone.
Music and photos are added/deleted via the sync process.

  • HT203164 Why won't the song titles transfer with the music when I burn to disc and play on another device?

Why won't the song titles transfer with the music whaen I burn to disc and play or copy to another program?

Thank you, reducing the image size worked! I had used a low res file before, and with success decided to increase the resolution/size, and then it didn't work. the image did appear in small preview in the export panel, but wouldn't burn when all was said and done. the dimensions you gave worked fine. unfortunately, it makes the image a little bit fuzzy, but i dont think i can do anything about this. at least it burned it in there. thanks!

  • Song Name in iTunes shows Artist & Song title, but ID3 tag is Correct

I recently recreated my entire music library on iTunes (6000 songs) by adding the entire MyMusic folder. I noticed that all the song titles had the Artist name then song name (this caused problems when I did a sync with my iPod). When I went back into my iTunes, if I played the song, the Song Name would change back to the Song Title (without artist), but I don't want to do that with 6000 songs. I wiped it out again, and started to add 1 folder at a time, and it seems to be fine, but again, I don't want to do that for every folder.
Does anyone know why it does this when I add it all at once, and how can I prevent it. All my ID3 tags are fine (I've changed a bunch with MediaMonkey). Should I try a different tag editor? Any ideas?

iTunes labels the songs by the track name only.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced-
Uncheck *Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library*.
The files will remain where they are and not be copied into the iTunes music folder.
Uncheck *Keep iTunes music folder organized*.
This will leave the file names alone.

  • Trying to sync ipod - all songs erased but still showing in itunes

I've had my ipod for two years, no problem, just went to sync and everything on ipod was erased, but everything still appears in itunes. Getting the following error message: Songs on the ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist. But they do exist...any ideas?

Hi, Thanks for replying. I created a smart playlist but when I went to change the ipod settings in itunes, "ipod options" did not come up in the menu. All I have is open, eject, sync, transfer purchases and reset warnings. Any ideas?

  • ITunes won't show the CD in the library and won't show song titles

Finally, after about 6 hours I was able to download the new version of iTunes for my daughter's Nano. Now when we load a CD ready to import into iTunes it won't show up in the music library column at all. I had the old iTunes for an iPod mini on another computer - all I did was put the CD in the drive then iTunes would read the song titles and show the CD in the library column, then I'd import and all was good. This version will not show the CD in the library column, I have looked at advanced preferences but can't find out what's going wrong. Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE help? This is very frustrating!!!! I'm supposed to be on holiday and relaxing!!! Happy new year to all you fellow Nano haters!

Are the CD's you are trying to install store bought CD's?
What you might try doing if the CD drive is not showing up under the source is going to file and then clicking on Add to Library within iTunes. Find the CD inside of My Computer and trying to add the music.

  • Two iPhones showing in iTunes but I only have one

I had to get my original iPhone (bought 9/26) replaced because it kept mysteriously turning off. I now have two iPhones showing up in iTunes. Ones says "iPhone" and one says "Lisa's iPhone". ANy way to combine these and get rid of one of them?
    Thanks.
    LIsa

    Lisa,
Where are these two iPhones showing up? Is it in the left-hand Source List of iTunes under the Devices heading? Or are they showing under Edit > Preferences > iPhone?
If they are both showing under the Devices header in the Source List, what happens when you disconnect the iPhone? Do both disappear or only one?
If they are showing in the Preferences window, then that is actually a record of the different backups iTunes has made for each iPhone. If the preferences and settings on your new iPhone are how you would like them, then you can remove the old backup.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Syncing iPhone with one Mac but not another

I have a home Mac and a work Mac.
I want the iPhone 3GS to sync with my home Mac, and it does so perfectly.
Sometimes I'm at work and I need to charge the phone, so I plug it into the work Mac, and it launches iTunes and attempts to sync with it (which, if I let it continue, would erase all my loaded stuff). I always stop it manually.
I see the option in iTunes checked for "Always sync the iPhone to this Mac" (or something like that). If I uncheck it, it fixes this, but next time I go home, the iPhone doesn't sync with the home phone because this option unchecks itself at home too!
So how do I make sure it syncs to the home Mac, but does not erase itself when plugged into the work Mac?

From the user guide, page 16, http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
You may want to prevent iPhone from syncing automatically when you connect iPhone to a computer other than the one you usually sync with.
    1. Turn off automatic syncing for iPhone: Connect iPhone to your computer. In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar, then click the Summary tab. Deselect “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected.” You can always sync by clicking the Sync button.
    2. Prevent automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods: In iTunes choose iTunes > Preferences (on a Mac) or Edit > Preferences (on a PC), click Devices, and select “Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods. If this checkbox is selected, iPhone won’t sync automatically, even if “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected” is selected in the Summary pane.
    3. Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar."
I use option 3 without any problems.

  • Downloaded 8.0.1; help about shows 8.0, but says I'm up-to-date.

I updated from FF 8.0 to 8.0.1. I rebooted the PC. If I click "help>about" the response still shows 8.0, but the text beneath indicates that I'm up-to-date. What happened to my update?
Using: XP Home Edition, Version 2002 with SP 3 on a HP Laptop.

8.0.1 only contained 2 fixes for the Mac OS, so 8 and 8.0.1 are identical on PCs.

  • Strange song titles after transfering backup music to iPod through iTunes

Hi, i recently lost my iPod classic(80GB) which i have been using soly as a music player. Luckily i had made a backup before i lost it. I then baught a new iPod classic(160GB) and *transfered my backup to my new iPod through iTunes*. This workded fine, except that *alot of the songs titles have been changed to something like: AYFV, GGVE, YVOB etc* ( i transfered my backed up music directly to my connected iPod, not putting them in the iTunes Library first )
I have about 9000 songs on it, and i dont know how to find many of the songs i like and love. I remember most of my songs by its Tittle rather than Artist or Album. I have a Samsung Galaxy with SoundHound downloaded... but scrolling through 9000 songs to find the 'corrupted' titles and changing them kinda throws me off
Why has this happened? What can i do about it? How can i prevent this from happening in the future? Can i back up my playlists as well?

Most media files contain some form of tag which records details such as the title, track number, artist. etc. If you import such a file into iTunes then iTunes will read the tag data from it and list the data that it has found. For files which don't have a tag, typically those in .wav format but .mp3 files don't have to have tags, the only information iTunes has when it imports will be the filename.
Although the tag can record much of the metadata (data about data) of the file, certain information such as ratings, playcounts and playlist membership is stored in a database. There is a database for your local iTunes library and a database on the iPod. Putting the media files onto the iPod in their XXXX.<ext> format *is not enough* for them installed into the iPod's database. Despite your description above, if you were able to restore your iPod backup to a new device, then you must have backed up and then restored the whole drive, not just the Music folder. If you still have the whole image and a compatible device then you can do this again.
When iTunes places media on an iPod it uses the F00-FXX folders and XXXX.<ext> filenames in a scheme called a hash table. The details aren't important, but it is a way of efficiently relabelling files with much shorter filenames that won't clash with each other. As a by-product it also discourages casual piracy from the iPod's drive since you don't know which file is which.
If you only have the media files then, as you have seen, the best you can do is import them into iTunes. Those which have tags will be correctly reorganised. Those without will be given their current filenames as their track names and placed in the Unknown Artist\Unknown Album folder. I would suspect that most of these files will be in .wav format in which case you will have to listen to and rename them one at a time. If however there are files in .mp3 or .acc format then you may be able to build tags for them using MusicBrainz Picard Tagger. iTunes won't detect any updates you make with third party tools, but I have a script for that called UpdateTagInfo.
Given how easy it is for an iPod to be lost, stolen or damaged it should not be relied upon as the only place for your media. It makes much more sense to to maintain your library in iTunes on your computer, then sync that library to the device. Instead of backing up the device, which takes ages each time and limits you to replacing it with an identical device, back up the library.
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

  • What's the dif  "sync only checked songs and videos"&"manually manage music

Can someone please explain the difference between "sync only checked songs and videos" and "manually manage music and videos"
It probably makes sense to someone that uses many iTunes features but I just download podcasts and music.

Okay , I had "*Manually Managed*" checked in the summery and had restored the iPod to get rid of some videos that wouldn't go away. When I went to Music and checked *Sync Music* Selected Playlists, etc. it appears that the *Manually Manage* box in the Summery un-checked itself.
    Interesting,
So just to clarify ; When *Manually Managed* is checked you can only drag things into the device from your library (outside the device), using the Music tab within the device will negate this ?
