Synced iPhone w/ new MAC and not working

I synced my iPhone with my new Mac about a week ago when I first bought the MacBook, I'm a first time Mac user.  I bought a song on iTunes today and wanted to transfer it onto my iPhone, but it's not letting me transfer, am I doing something wrong? Any help would be great, thanks!

What do you mean "not letting me"
What did you try?
What happened?
Error message?
What did it say?

The problem is your friend's music does not belong to you.  It is owned by your friend.
I'm afraid you cannot do what you are trying to do.  Restoring the iPhone is what you would have to do.
In the future, put your music on the computer and transfer it to the iPhone, not the other way.

  • HT1212 Restoring on a new computer that the ipod has never been synced to is not working.  Old computer is broke and trying to sync to the new one is not working.  Help!

Passcode has been disabled and the computer it was synced to is no longer working.  We have tried to sync to the new computer and it is not possible.  Exactly what are the steps to do this.  All our apple products are on our account, therefore, apple support should be able to see that there is nothing "suspect" going on.  It is driving me insane not being able to reset/resync, whatever it's called when your locked out.

Place the iPod in Recovery mode and connect to the computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Syncing iPhone with one Mac but not another

I have a home Mac and a work Mac.
I want the iPhone 3GS to sync with my home Mac, and it does so perfectly.
Sometimes I'm at work and I need to charge the phone, so I plug it into the work Mac, and it launches iTunes and attempts to sync with it (which, if I let it continue, would erase all my loaded stuff). I always stop it manually.
I see the option in iTunes checked for "Always sync the iPhone to this Mac" (or something like that). If I uncheck it, it fixes this, but next time I go home, the iPhone doesn't sync with the home phone because this option unchecks itself at home too!
So how do I make sure it syncs to the home Mac, but does not erase itself when plugged into the work Mac?

From the user guide, page 16, http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
You may want to prevent iPhone from syncing automatically when you connect iPhone to a computer other than the one you usually sync with.
    1. Turn off automatic syncing for iPhone: Connect iPhone to your computer. In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar, then click the Summary tab. Deselect “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected.” You can always sync by clicking the Sync button.
    2. Prevent automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods: In iTunes choose iTunes > Preferences (on a Mac) or Edit > Preferences (on a PC), click Devices, and select “Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods. If this checkbox is selected, iPhone won’t sync automatically, even if “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected” is selected in the Summary pane.
    3. Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar."
I use option 3 without any problems.

  • How to sync contacts, music, and movies from iPhone to new mac and unsync from old PC?

Hi, I know this question has been asked a lot but for some reason I could not get a clear understanding of what everyone was talking about and my situation might be a tad different.
So I already had an iPhone that was synced to my dell PC. I just got a new macbook pro retina and now I'm trying to transfer my contacts, movies, and music to my mac from my iPhone. However I keep getting a message that says if I sync to this mac then all of my stuff will be deleted from my iPhone. (I am now aware that they mean only iTunes content, but those are still important to me). I still own my PC but there is no way I can connect my PC and Mac together. Is there a way possible that I could "unsync" my iPhone to my PC and sync it to the Mac without erasing the stuff from my iPhone? Are there other methods of syncing my iPhone to my new mac? My last question is that is it possible to transfer purchases from my mac to my iPhone even if it is or isn't synced to the PC or erased of content?
Hopefully this sounds coherent, and thank you all in advance for your help. I'm new to all of this and I really appreciate your time.

It is designed so syncing is one way only (with the exception of iTunes Store purchases) computer to phone.  You need to transfer the library from the old computer to the new one so the phone is syncing back to the same library it used to or else it will request you erase the phone.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
You can use  flash drive for copying, breaking it down into chunks if necessary but making sure they get re-assembled correctly again.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Authorisation of an old account on a new mac, Password not working, no longer have access to that email address, and security question not working. But I do have my mac authorised! ...is there anyway to copy or get authorisation info off it???

    Please help me!!!!
I have got a new Mac, I am trying to share my itues on it as well as my old mac, I have had two itunes accounts in my life, one is current now (this account) one I have not had access to the email for years. Since I have bought music off both accounts, I wish to play it all on  both my macs. My Old mac has both accounts Authorised fine and all is good.
My new Mac, I have thios account running fine, but keep getting prompted for the password for my old account, I have no idea what my old password is, I have not had access to that email address for 5 years, and for some strange reason the security question isn't working eaither.
Since I do still have one Mac where it is Authorised, Is there any file I can copy accross or anyway to get the password out of the OSX 10.6.8 for my old account.
Secondly, is there anyway to roll both accounts into just my current one.
Many Thanks in advance for your help.
    Steve

I too am having this same problem but I have not seen ANY solutions for it. Looks like Apple is ignoring it!!!!!!!!?

  • My iPhone is synced to an old computer, how do I get it synced with my new one and not lose all the music?

I recently had to rebuild my hard drive. When I try to sync my iPhone, the iTunes app won't recognize the phone and gives me the option of erasing the content on the phone and syncing to the library that it currently has. I don't want to lose the content on the phone but I do want to add content from the current library. Any suggestions? Or am I screwed?

    Two options available to you.
Option 1:  If the computer your previous sync is available then you can do itunes home sharing.  Transfer the files and then sync to the new computer.  Setting up home sharing http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620
Option 2:  If the computer you were previously syncing with isn't available AND you purchased the music via itunes you can transfer the purchases.  Transfering purchases http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2554

  • How to sync iPhone with new Mac without losing all my iTunes?

I have recently got a new MacBook after my old one crashed... but I have been told that anything not bought would be lost when I sync my iPhone with my new Mac... I have already transferred the bought songs etc... is there a way (cheap or free if possible!) to transfer my music and videos to my iTunes library on my Mac?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
    Option 1:
If you have purchased a new Mac from an Local Apple store, I'd advise you to bring in your old computer along with your new one in, and have them assist you on transferring. (Assuming your computer doesn't not even power up)
    Option 2:
If your computer can be powered up (seeing the Apple Logo), and your hard drive is fine, then you can connect the two computers by using a Firewire cable, and then transfer the music files by drag and drop.
         http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
    Option 3:
There are 3rd party software that you may purchase used to extract music from your iPhone, but it will have to be done at your own risk.  You may Google for extracting music from iPhone for a start.

  • Upgrading from old Mac to new- how to sync iPhone with new Mac?

    Hi all,
My dad is upgrading from an old iBook to a nice new iMac. He has spent quite a few days tweaking his new iMac and importing old files and folders. The one thing we haven't yet done, though, is iTunes. He has an iBook G3 that he syncs his iPhone with, and he wants to be able to "move" his whole iTunes setup to the new iMac so that it picks up right where the iBook left off, without needing to reset the iPhone.
One thing to keep in mind is that the iBook had a tiny hard drive and thus the music files are actually on an external hard drive. I was wondering how to go about this feat. I read that using Migration Assistant deletes everything off the new Mac, so that's not an option at this point. Thanks for the help!

If you had use Migration Assistant to start with it would have been easier.

  • How to sync iphone to new mac without losing iPhone info

My Mac was fixed by apple care and they replaced the drive. Now my phone detects a "new" computer and watns of data loss. Please advise

You can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
You can e-mail the Photo library pics to yourself.  They will not be of the original quality.
You can import the pics taken with iphone as you would with any digita camera.
If you enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer, then when you first sync, you should get the option to merge the data.

  • Syncing iPhone with new MBP and/or iMac

I'm ready to upgrade my white MacBook 13" and I'm a new iPhone user as of Jan'10. My question is will it be painless to connect my iPhone to a new MacBook Pro or iMac and have iTunes recognize it? Would there be any complications maybe? Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Restore iTunes on your new Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer. Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • Can I opt to only sync iPhone 4 via iTunes and NOT iCloud?

I only use the iCal, Contacts, and Mail parts of MobileMe.  I sync all three via iTunes.  I don't need to worry about any web storage or gallery or other stuff.
Because my MacBookPro is early 2008, I'm leery of upgrading to Lion, even though it's needed for iCloud.  I don't want to deal with the decreased battery life or any downgrade in speed.  My iPhone 4 is running the most current iOS.
If I don't upgrade to Lion, I accept that I can't migrate to iCloud via my MacBookPro.
    Here are my questions:
    1.  If I don't physically initiate a migration to iCloud, will my .me/.mac mail accounts disappear or will I still be able to get my mail as usual using the mail apps on my MacBookPro and iPhone 4?  Will I have to change any of the imap server settings after June 30?
    2.  For my contacts and iCal, will I be able to continue to sync to my iPhone 4 via iTunes, so that I can pretend iCloud doesn't exist?  I realize any calendar/contacts changes wouldn't be immediately seen across all devices, but I don't need them to be--changes can wait until my next iTunes sync.
    3.  If I don't make any changes, will I be able to set up my iCloud stuff at a later date, after MobileMe is history?
    4.  If I simply MUST initiate a move to iCloud to "reserve my space" or whatever, is it something I could do via my iPhone or even on a newer computer at the Apple Store?
Basically, can I keep doing what I'm doing, postpone a Lion upgrade for now and ignore the move to iCloud, or will I break the internet?
    Thank you in advance.

Yes - deselect them before you sync.
I'm assuming that you auto sync so if you do sync that way - go ahead and sync your iPad again. But don't disconnect the iPad yet. After the sync completes - click on the iPad name on the left side of iTunes - then click on the apps tab on the right. Uncheck all of the iPhones apps under the list of apps to deselect them. When you have all of those apps deselected - click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes. This will remove them from the iPad and iTunes will remember this the next time that you sync.

  • Please help me my iphone 4 switch off and not working

please help me my iphone switch off and not working

    Hello safaabh,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone would not power on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Syncing iphone contacts with iCloud does not work

I navigate to my iPhone 4 Settings and from there chose the option which is named iCloud
I turn OFF Contacts choosing to keep contacts on my iPhone and then turn it ON again.
I get prompted with the option to Merge my iPhone contacts with the ones I have on the iCloud already. I  click "Merge".
I wait until the iCloud service is turned on for my iPhone contacts.
Finally, I go back to the Contacts app on my iPhone and click Groups, which is there I assume because I have multiple email accounts linked to my iPhone. I refresh my contact list by clicking on the circular arrow in the top left corner of the screen on the iPhone.
Contacts I have recently added to my iPhone are NOT transferred to iCloud.
    Why is this not working?
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

Go on system preferences / iCloud and check if Calendar is turned on.
Then take your iPhone 4 and go on Settings/iCloud and check if the Calendar is turned on.
If both are on with the same Apple ID, it should all go fine.
You can go on iCloud.com, logon with your Apple ID and click on the calendar to verify.
