Synch iPhone to new copy of iTunes on a new iMac

I have a new iMac and plan to migrate manually all my iTunes information from an older Mac. I don't belive the iPhone backup files will be coming over.
We have two iPhones a 5 and 4 that will need to synched up. Each phone is fully loaded and operational as we would like.
How do I best establish the new relationships for each iPhone and get backups occuring on this new iMac? I am fearful of the new computer and new iTunes wiping out all the customization and data etc on each iPhone.
Thoughts apprecaited!

What do you mean by 'registered it on iTunes' ? You've authorised your account on your Mac's iTunes via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option ? And you've copied your library onto the Mac ?

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

  • Copy contacts from iPhone to new iMac

I have just bought a new iMac running Yosemite. I want to transfer contacts from my iPhone address book to my new iMac. I have tried going via iCloud but iCloud does not seem to be synching, doesn't appear in iTunes etc.

On the iPhone you need to have Settings > iCloud > Contacts on.
On the Mac you need to have Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Contacts on.
That should be all that is needed.
You don't need to have iOS8. If you have logged into www.cloud.com and the contacts aren't there, then the problem has nothing to do with the iMac (or at least that part of the problem doesn't).
If it isn't working between the phone and www.cloud.com then I would be sure to perform exactly every step in Get help using iCloud Contacts in the section titled "iOS" all of the way down to the section titled "OS X Lion or later."

  • Synch ipad to (new) iMac

My iMac harddrive crashed completely and had to be replaced.  It was not backed up.
I am rebuilding my content on the new drive but i can't seem to fully synch my iPad and iPhone music, apps and photo albums in iTunes.  When I try, a message comes up and tells me they are synched to my prior library still and all that stuff will be erased from my iPad  / iPhone prior to re -synching with a new one.  I can't synch to the old library because it is dead.  How do i get these devices to to be friendly with my "new" iMac?

  • How to sync iphone on new iMac, coming from Vista, without loosing data?

    Hello people,
I'm in an awkward situation as i think most people are when dealing with this kind of problem. I searched the forum for something like this but with no success.
So my question in detail is: I came from a PC world, with windows vista and now i'm a new Mac fan. Bought a new iPhone and loved the device so much that i had to try some Mac notebooks and iMacs to see what's what. And guess what after 1 month i ended up with a new iMac...and so far i love it even though i still have alot to learn in OS X. Since i had my iPhone 3G synced with my old PC with ITunes i can't sync now with my new iMac without loosing everything on it, including photos, applications, music and other stuff.
So how can i sync it without loosing that data????
I googled on the net for an answer and i found some answers to a method that would allow to further sync my iPhone and still keep the actual data in it. In other words make iTunes ignore the existing data in it, but i found it rather too much of a hassle, having to modify strings of data in some files in the Library.
Also i found another method but that might work only from a windows machine to another windows machine, with itunes library exporter.
So knowing my situation what would you do?
PS: IMHO syncing to erasing all data is NOT an option. let's say that i would venture in creating new photo albums to sync them, and put the music back but what about the apps? I bought so many of them and some with vital information/settings that i could simply not bare having them deleted.
    HELP PLS!

App settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app are not stored with the application in your iTunes library. 3rd party app settings and data are stored with the app on your iPhone and included with your iPhone's backup - which is created and maintained by iTunes during the sync process.
Once again - you need to transfer your iTunes folder and library from your PC to your Mac. In case you missed it - your need to transfer your iTunes folder and library from your PC to your Mac. All apps downloaded via iTunes or via your iPhone should be in your iTunes library. App settings and data created and stored by an app are stored with the app on your iPhone and included with your iPhone's backup.
When syncing with another computer - even with the same iTunes library and iTunes account, your iPhone will be erased of all iTunes content but iTunes should create a backup of your iPhone first - which includes settings and data created by a 3rd party app. You can always manually create a backup for your iPhone with iTunes on your Mac before syncing.
Your iPhone will be erased of all iTunes content first, followed by selected iTunes content via your iTunes sync preferences being re-transferred to your iPhone. If any 3rd party app settings or data is lost, you can restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.

  • Can't sync iPhone to new iMac

I follow all the knowledgebase advice: I've authorized iTunes on the new iMac, I've unchecked 'auto sync' in Preferences. I connect my iPhone directly to the computer via USB. I right click on the device and select 'Transfer Purchases', iTunes gets to the 'Transferring Purchases from iPhone "x" Waiting for changes to be applied' and then hangs. I've even tried 'erase and replace', and again it hangs. I'm stuck. What do I do?

I can't sync my iPad either. Help!

  • How to transfer from iPad and iPhone to new iMac

I just purchased a new iMac, my iPhone will not sync or does not display in iTunes. Can I transfer songs, media and photos from my iPad, iPhone and iPod to my new Mac? Also, on my crashed computer (with no back up drive) has all my iTunes purchases, how do I retrieve them again from iTunes?
    Elizabeth Eggert

    Elizabeth,
on your new iMac start iTunes and log in to the iTunes Store (Store menu) using the same Apple ID as on the broken old Mac.
Then authorize this new Mac and select the iTunes Store. On the righthand side, you should see a section labelled Music or similar and below that a link to your purchased items. Clicking that link sends you to a list of all items purchased with your Apple ID.
    Good luck, Andreas

  • How to transfer music from iPhone to new iMac

My wife just got an iMac. She has had an iPhone for about a year or so. She wants to transfer the music from her iPhone to the iMac so she can then do new downloads on the iMac and keep it and the iPhone in sync. Photos transferred without problem. Apple says the music cannot be transferred. Any suggestions?

The iphone syncs one way for music, it is not a storage device.
The itunes purchased music can be transferred by File>Transfer purchases in itunes.
The iphone can sync with one itunes library at a time. You need to transfer you old itunes library - from the old computer, to the new imac, then sync.

  • Contacts/Calendar from iPhone to new iMac...

I have a new iMac and moved everything over from my Windows PC to my iMac except for my Outlook contacts and calendar which are on my iPhone already.
Can I have my iPhone simple sync with my new iMac and have it transfer my contacts and calendar over to my iCal and iMac Address Book? If not, what is the correct way to do this.
    Thanks,

Check that you are adding them to your iCloud contacts and not to 'on my mac' contacts on your mac address book.

  • ITunes does not 'see' iPhone in new iMac

I am not sure if I should post this in the iPhone Forum or here ... but I just bought a new 21" iMac and used the Migration utility to copy all my data over from my MacBook. It seems to be fine and everything is working correctly BUT ... when I plug in my iPhone it does not show up in iTunes. I did go into iTunes and "authorize" my new computer ... buy it still does not see my iPhone.
I am sure there is a simple answer to this but I can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks for your help!!

Check your System Profiler and see if the computer is recognizing the phone in there (if it's not, try a new cord). If it is, login to another User account and see if the iTunes in there sees the phone. If it isn't,you might try reinstalling iTunes.

  • Synching IPhone on new PC  (w/o backup)

    Hello,
Nearly a year ago I purchased my first IPhone (Hurray… ), (3Gs) and I am very satisfied with it every day since.
    However, I have one problem:
I synched the IPhone with ITunes on the PC I used at work back then. Since July I don`t work for that company anymore, and did not have the chance to create a backup disk of my ITunes data. Since then I did not synch my IPhone with ITunes on my private PC, because I don`t want to lose my saved Emails, contacts, pictures, etc… .
Question: Is there any possibility to synch my IPhone on my private PC without losing my data (i have no backup...)?
I am thankful for any help,
    Alf

  • Cannot Synch iPhone on New 8-Core Mac Pro

I have had my iPhone since the first day they went on sale in June 2007. It has performed flawlessly for me and continues to do so. I have been using the iPhone with a white iMac purchased in March 2007. I have never had the slightest problems with synching my iPhone on my iMac under first Tiger and now Leopard.
Yesterday I purchased an 8-core iMac with Leopard installed. The 8-core is running beautifully. I used Setup Assistant when I booted up my Mac Pro for the first time to transfer my data, applications, etc. from my iMac to my Mac Pro. The transfer appeared fine for over 3.5 hours with the blue progress bar going all the way to the right. Then with "one minute remaining" the process hung and went unchanged for 1.5 hr. I called Apple Support. They told me to shut down and then reboot the Mac Pro. I did and it booted up fine. I found that some of my applications had to be reinstalled and I did so. These apps then ran fine.
However, although iTunes ran fine on my Mac Pro and my music library appeared just as it should, I got the following error message when I tried to synch iTunes with my iPhone: The iPhone "My Name" cannot be synched. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation!". This is in spite of the fact that my account is an administrator account.
Once again I spent 3 hours on the phone with Apple Support and went through two levels of iPhone support. In the end they could not solve the problem. My final Apple Support person recommended an archive and install. I have now completed the archive and install. I am still experiencing the same error message when I try and synch the iPhone.
I am desperate to solve this problem, and I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.
One more piece of information. My iPhone does appear in iTunes when it is sitting on the dock. The synch does begin before this error message appears. Furthermore, when I select the Info Tab across the top after selecting my iPhone under the devices on the left, and I make any changes and click "apply" the iPhone synchs, finishes synching, and does so with no error messages. However if I then hit the synch button again, I get the behavior described above with a failure to synch and the given message.
I thank you in advance for any help that you can provide to me. All suggestions are welcome.
    Tom

I have the same problem and I was getting very frustrated with this because when the alert comes up it gives you no idea of where to look for a solution BUT I also just found a website which helped me resolve the problem. I just did it and everything is fine. The iPhoto is the culprit here and you have to reset it's permissions and privilages.
    Read on and happy syncing!

  • How do I transfer music from my iphone to new imac

I've just bought an imac and which is empty of itunes and would like to transfer the music from my iphone to the imac. Can anyone help please?

If you don't still have your PC (copying content between computers) or your content on a backup that you can copy the music from then you will need to get a third-party program for your computer to copy it off your iPad - iTunes will only copy iTunes purchases.
