Synch Issue - no disk in drive message - do not disconnect on IPOD

During synch I get a message:
"Windows - no disk
There is no disk in the drive - please insert a disc into Drive F"
Drive F is a usb port and there is nothing in it. I thought maybe a song had F: in the title - found two and deleted them from the library, but problem still there. ITunes say synch complete -IPOD says do not disconnect, so have had to reboot IPOD to disconnect. Synch is okay and all files updated okay. Any help?

Hello,
Well, thanks at least for confirming that I'm not alone. I've done a lot of research on the internet with folks having trouble syncing their older ipods and even ipod touches with the latest version of itunes. Hopefully Apple will read these complaints and address the issues in future versions.
Thanks.

I plugged my ipod into my computer to load up new tunes and it froaze on the time I dad connected it with the message 'do not disconnect' on the screen. Despite disconnecting and reconnecting it and ensuring it was charged up it will not operate. The 'lock' symbol is showing at the top of the screen even when I have moved the lock switch. I have been using my ipod for several years with no similar fault. What is the problem/solution?

I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to restore the iPod from backup

    Hello Harrywahi,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with your unresponsive iPod classic.  I found a resource that I think would help in a situation like this.
I recommend following the steps in this troubleshooting assistant:

  • IPod Sync - No Disk in Drive message

    Hello,
When my iPod completes sync-ing, I get the "Windows - No Disk" error message, stating "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive."
If provides the drive letter involved and offers one to Cancel, Try Again, or Continue.
Note: File Explore does show the iPod, w folders, listed as the drive prompted for. If does correctly sync that files. Also, once one ejects the iPod, file explores, correctly, no longer lists that drive.
The event log simply records this as eventID 26 repeating several times.
Microsoft's support site states the following for the eventID:
    Explanation
The program could not load a driver because the program user doesn't have sufficient privileges to access the driver or because the drive is missing or corrupt.
    User Action
    To correct this problem:
Ensure that the program user has sufficient privileges to access the directory in which the driver is installed.
Reinstall the program to restore the driver to the correct location.
However, I do have privileges and the application has been reinstalled.
Ideas what is triggering the prompt?

I have seen two suggestions for fixing this issue:
    1. Microsoft's
This is specific to XP, and your profile shows you are using XP.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196/en-us
    2. An old post in another forum that said "I un-installed iTunes and then went to C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Applications Data\Apple Computers\iTunes and deleted the iTunes preferences file. I did the same at C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Applications Data\Apple Computers\iTunes. I then re-installed iTunes."
Neither of the above worked for me.
What did work was very simple: with the iPod connected, on the Summary tab, check the "Enable disk use" option, then click Apply.
    Hope this helps.

  • No disk in Drive Message

When I run Itunes I get the message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \device\Harddisk\DR5" .
It appears over the itunes screen but it won't let me do anything and I have to exit through Task Manager..  Any Advice how to solve problem.  I have all the current versions of Windows 7, itunes etc.  I had a similar problem a while ago and had to uninstall Itunes and reinstall. This just started about two days ago.  Thanks

Were you able to resolve this?
I tried fixing the same problem today and could not seem to find the correct file to delete. I reinstalled several times, trashed the pref files, trashed the temp folder items, even used the Windows Clean Uninstall Utility and no dice.

  • There is no disk in drive - message won't go away

Wene i Tunes starts it displays a panel saying "there is no disk in drive, insert a disk in the drive" . Options are "cancel", "try again" "continue"
NO matter which option I choose the message comes back again and again making it impossibe to do anything in the applications.
I can't see any reason why it should be looking for a disk
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • After update to version 1.1.1 getting the message "Do not disconnect"

I updated my nano to version 1.1.1. After the update the message "Do not dicsonnect" doesn't disappear. I couldn't remove safely the nano from Windows XP and can't see it in iTunes. Restarting the updater doesn't work. Resetting nano doesn't work. Every time I connect the nano to my USB port I get the same message.
    Any ideas?

  • PSE7 External hard drive rename does not disconnect files but...

I am running Vista, and keep my pic files on an external HD (Drive F:).
Occasionally I would run into the issue that my EHD would get bumped to the G: drive (because I would plug something else into the USB port). When I would open PSE6 Organizer with the drive designated as G:, my files would show as disconnected. I could either search and reconnect all the files each time, or just remap (am I using that term correctly?) the drive back to F: and reopen the organizer and it would find them fine. I understood how to fix this problem in PSE6. I also assumed if I wanted to change my EHD designation, that would be the way to do it.
Here's the issue: I've upgraded to PSE7, converted my catalogs, and all is well WHEN the drive remains as F:. I want to remap my EHD to the W: designation (to solve the bumping to a different drive letter name issue). But now in PSE7, if I change the drive letter to anything other than F:, and then open the Organizer, the F: designation shows up as a 'ghost' (greyed out, and read-only evidently).
I can still view the files, edit them, print them, and if I try to reconnect like before, it tells me there are no disconnected files! I CAN'T move the files or folders, create new folders, add folders to watchlist, etc. (by right-clicking in the folder location view). Incidentally, the properties for each file lists them as on the W: drive, but clicking on a file points to a 'ghost/greyed' folder under the 'ghost' F: drive in the folder location view.
HOW can I change the drive designation and get the organizer to update the thumbnails to point to THAT drive designation, so I can work with all the files and folders like normal? Am I stuck on the F: drive forever???!!!
    Thanks!

John, Thanks for the reply. Here is what I get when I run the utility with my EHD set to F:, which is where PSE7 knows most of the the files to be. (I do have some occasional files on the internal C: drive.)

OKay, I KNOW there is a wrong drive letter in the catalog, but when this happened in PSE6, I could just reconnect files and go with the new drive letter. That's actually what I want to do here (as painful as it will be to reconnect all my files!) I'm tired of my EHD drive getting bumped around to different letter designations (and causing problems like this), so I'm trying to set it to something far out that won't get bumped.

  • -48 error message & iTunes not copying to iPod

    Hi there.
When hooking up to iTunes with my iPod (5th Gen) iTunes throws a -48 Error. I've wiped the iPod with disc utility and it's still happening. Also it starts copying files over yet stops and shows a -5.5MB or 35MB copied.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks

    Nick,
It would be interesting to see if this error occurs when syncing music to the iPod in a new user account.
    1. Create a new user in System Preferences > Accounts.
    2. Log out of your current user account.
    3. Log into the new user.
    4. Import a couple of audio CDs into iTunes.
    5. Connect the iPod.
    6. Restore the iPod.
    7. Configure the iPod to sync all the music from the library.
    Does the error appear?

  • I was cleaning up unwanted  music on my ipod and now finished get this message "Do Not Disconnect" and it won't do anything else now ?   Need help? name is Tom

I had bought this quite some years ago but would like to now update it and now have hit a glitch. I need help without loosing all my downloads ?

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Do Not Disconnect message does not go away!

I just purchased my IPod Nano and every time I recharge it on my IBM Windows XP Pro, I get the message "Do Not Disconnect". When I try to eject from Itunes, I get an error message that tells me that "another application is using Itunes" and hence cannot eject. However, I do not have any application open. This "Do Not Disconnect" message doesn't go away even when my battery is fully charged. Can someone share some insight on how to make this problem go away?

The answer could be as simple as you have your iPod enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely remove Hardware icon or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Help with first use of nano - continual do not disconnect message

    Hi,
I have connected my ipod nano for the first time to my computer - a message advises me that i am not using a hi-speed port and i have the message "do not disconnect" - my question is will the use of this port eventually start up the installer of itunes etc and if not will i damage my ipod if i disconnect it from the computer?
    Many thanks
    Angela

    Hi Angela!
When your iPod displays "Do Not Disconnect", it is not safe to just unplug it right now (yes, it certainly could damage future connection ability from your iPod to your computer if you simply disconnect it right now).
You'll need to first eject your iPod before it is safe to disconnect it.
You can eject your iPod through several ways, including the Safely Remove Hardware program, found in the System Tray Icons in the bottom-right area of your screen. Select "Apple iPod" and click on "Stop".
For more info on this subject, see if these Support articles help you:
