Synch my ipod touch 4 with a new hard drive

I have a new hard drive - the old one crashed - how can I synch my ipod touch 4 with the new drive?

= Transfer iTunes puhases to the new computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music using third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
- Make a backup of he iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup.
If you are in the USA you can also redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How can I restore my iPod touch data to a new hard drive when the old one crashed

My computer crashed and I want to put the contents of my iPod Touch back on the new hard drive. How do I do this without accidentally Syncing and copying over my data? The vast majorioty of the music on my iPod is my own from DCs I own.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.

Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

  • Is there any way to get my photos FROM my iPod Touch back onto a new hard drive?

My Mac crashed last Friday. First timeIs there any way to get my photos FROM my iPod Touch back into my new hard drive. The iTunes sync only goes one way from the computer to the iPod.
It syncs the photos taken with the iPod (really an old iPhone 3G without phone service) but not the folders which I synced from the old hard drive to the iPod over the past year.

    thank you for the tip.
Yes, my computer was backed up. for reasons way too complicated to go into here, these particular folders were not part of the backup.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • How to get music off ipod touch 5 and onto new hard drive

    Help.
My PC crashed. I have an itunes acct. I was able to back up most music to external hard drive - except that which was more recently purchased by son through his ipod touch 5 (that he got for Christmas.)
I see that ipod touch 5 will not open as an external storage device in order to download and back up songs to external hard drive or flash drive...
I have a new laptop. Itunes is not yet installed on it.
I am afraid that if I do install the Itunes - then he plugs in his Ipod to sync - he will sync to an empty folder - thus erasing his songs...
    Is this right?
Or do my libraries still exist?
I would really feel most comfortable if I could just get the songs off of his IPod and into back up before I install ITunes on the new laptop.
I can always re-import the songs back into Itunes, can't I?
I am not too computer savvy - please consider in reply.
    Thanks all!

"I see that ipod touch 5 will not open as an external storage device in order to download and back up songs to external hard drive or flash drive..."
Correct.  The iod touch is not a backup/storage device.
"I am afraid that if I do install the Itunes - then he plugs in his Ipod to sync - he will sync to an empty folder - thus erasing his songs..."
    Also correct.
"Or do my libraries still exist?"
Your library will only be where you put them.  You shoudl always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer.
Copy everything from the backup copy to your new computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  Without syncing - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • Since i have upgradet my ipod touch 3g with the new 5.0.1 version,  i can`t upload music or pictures or apps or anything else. the synchronize button is gray and allows nothing. the i tunes version is the 10.5.3 ... please help me!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Lost a 2 hard drives, have 7 k photos on a touch that I need to load on IMAC with a new hard drive, how do I do it.  Just never went from a Touch to iMac.  I have the cable hooked up and then what, I don't want to mess up,my last chance to save 7k pics!

Lost my hard drive and also an Ipad, but have 7 k photos on a Touch that I need to load on fixed IMAC with a new hard drive, how do I do it. (There were more photos than the 7k, but they were saved on other drives, thank goodness).  7K pohotos on the Touch are no where else, must be saved!  Just never went from a Touch to iMac.  I have the cable hooked up and then what, I don't want to mess up,my last chance to save 7k pics!  New Aperture and IPhoto on IMAC with no other photos loaded on the new hard drive yet.

I'd ask in the iTouch forum where there are more iTouch users there than here and they should know how to off load the photos.  It might take a 3rd party app.

I recently had to replace my hard drive and lost my iTunes library.  When I try to transfer the content from my iPod to iTunes on the new hard drive (same computer), it would only let me transfer iTunes store purchases. How can I complete the transfer of all the content on the iPod back onto the computer?

  • Hi, I have a macbook pro with a new hard drive installed. My WD external drive backup on time machine now wont let me access the files. I get a prompt saying 'you do not have permission to access the files'

hi, I have a macbook pro with a new hard drive installed and restored. My WD external drive backup on time machine now wont let me access the files. I get a prompt saying 'you do not have permission to access the files' After my new drive was installed I plugged in time machine and it started backing up. I paused it when I realised that it was running for more than a few minutes. I now realise that it probably started backing up the new hard drive all over again. Which makes me think that the original back up must be on the WD back I cant seem to access it. Any ideas would be helpful.

If you are trying to recover photo stream photos, they are only held in iCloud for 30 days.  All you would be able ro recover is photo stream photos from the last 30 days.
If you have an iOS device that still has the photo stream photos one it, you can save them to the camera roll by opening the my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Once in the camera roll, they can be imported to iPhoto on your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t use iCloud. There's an iCloud Support Community where everybody uses iCloud. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/icloud/icloud_on_my_mac

  • Syncing with a new hard drive

    Hi,
My laptop crashed recently and a new hard drive was installed. I had everything backed up on an external hard drive, so I just had to re-install itunes and transfer over my music. However, now when I plug my ipod into my computer, it will charge, but the ipod is not recognized by the computer so there is no option to sync my ipod with my itunes. I want to put my new music on my ipod!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Be sure to not select the Erase and Sync option!

My hard drive on my IMac died, so I have a new hard drive.  I want to sync my Ipad(which has the files I lost when my old hard drive died) back with my IMac. How can I sync my Ipad with my new IMac hard drive without erasing my legacy files on the Ipad at the same time?

Copy everything from your backup copy of your cpomputer to your new hard drive.

  • How do I restore my bookmarks and favorites from the Firefox servers using my recovery key with a new hard drive?

I set up Firefox sync before getting a new hard drive. My understanding is that my favs and bookmarks would be stored on Firefox servers and could be synced to any of my devices.
However, now that I'm trying to restore to my new hard drive, it appears that I was supposed to sync previously with another device. I do not remember that explanation previously. I thought that my data was in the cloud and could be pulled at any time.
I have my recovery key. Can you help me?

I don't use Firefox sync, but my assumption was the same as yours. Have you tried the steps in the last part of this article?
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer How to sync Firefox settings between computers > What if I'm not near my first computer?]
Do you still have access to your old hard drive, or a backup of your old hard drive? You often can retrieve your bookmarks, saved passwords, settings, add-ons, and so forth from that. If you have access, a volunteer here can describe the process in more detail.

  • Hi, I have a late 2008 iMac with a new hard drive. How do I install Mountain Lion from my bootable USB flash drive.

How do I install Mountain Lion to a new hard drive without having the recovery partition on it.
I have the USB flash drive with software on it but when I switch my Mac on all I have is a white screen & a flashing question mark.
    ATB,
    Steve.

Did you use LionDiskMaker or DiskMaker X?
Boot the machine with the option key down until you see your bootable USB stick.  Select the latter, and reboot.
When the installer boots up, you will first need to choose Utilities and Disk Utility. Select the target HD device name and then the partition tab. Select 1 partition, name it Macintosh HD. Format is Mac OS Extended, and option is GUID. Apply. Exit Disk Utility and return to the installer, which will now show your newly partitioned HD as available for install.
When OS X is installed and all updates applied, press shift+command+U and run disk utility again. Verify/repair permissions and verify the boot disk.
