Synch on different computer

Hi can i charge my nano on someone else's computer? When i plug it in - it says synching - i dont want other peoples music on it!! Thanks

It shouldn't sync content from another iTunes library, even if it says "syncing" on the screen.  If your iPod is set to Manually manage music..., I think it will appear in that computer's iTunes, in the sidebar under DEVICES.  You can Eject it from there but leave it physically connected.  Then, it will charge, but no one can manually add content to your iPod.

  • Centro: Datebook /Calender will not synch when I do a Hot Synch from Different Computer Sites

I have 3 different computers I synch my Centro with. When I do a Hot Synch, the datebook/calender sync is completely bypassed and therefore data never gets shared. I have tried adjusting the configure function from the desktop; however, it seems to be related to the Phone as it will not sync with any of my computers. Is there a switch on the Phone I can turn on or off to enable the Datebook synch?
    Thanks.

  • IPod losing all playlists when re-synched with different computer.

Last year I placed my entire ITunes folder in an external drive to make more room on my then-Windows system. When I did this, all the music transferred over but none of my playlist folders were imported. When I then went to synch the IPod with the folder, none of the playlist folders showed up and I had to recreate them all over again, which was not a happy time.
Now I am forced to do it all over again with different machine thanks to a hard drive dump on my desktop. All of the music is on the same external drive. I have a number of playlists on the IPod but at present they don't show up on the music screen, which is expected seeing as I haven't synched the IPod yet with the new program in the laptop.
How can I synch the IPod with the program to insure I don't lose all those playlists again? My thanks for the assist.

I need to switch to a different computer to synch my iphone.  Will I lose information?

    To gdgmacguy:
You can authorize the computer! Top left corner, you wil see file, edit etc. Click sotre> authorize this computer, than go to edit> prefrences> devices, under back-ups click where it says to prevent auto sync when devices is connected. than you can connect the device, and theoreticall you could transfer purchases by right clicking on the name of the phone, and back up by the same method.

  • Use an external hard drive - want to connect to a different computer...

    Hi, pardon my ignorance but...
I keep all my ipod music on an external hard drive since I only have my work laptop, but the programs are on the computer. I used to never have a problem accessing itunes through my work laptop once I plugged the hard drive in.
The last time I synched my ipod there were about a dozen songs that I got a message "Some of the items in the itunes library, including..., were not copied to the ipod 'My iPod' because you are not authorized to play them on this computer". Some of the songs were explicit content, some weren't. Some I bought on iTunes, some were loaded from cds.
If I take my external hard drive and plug it into a different computer what will happen? Is there a way to get those songs back on my ipod? Again, sorry for not being too saavy. I have a 30GB video iPod.

+yes, when my external hard drive is plugged in, it lets me play the songs...+
So, were you expecting them to play when the exHD isn't plugged in? Because they won't!
Also, you need to have the exHD plugged in before you even start up iTunes, or your library file will get messed up.

  • HT1212 What is the IPad was not synched to a computer and is disabled?

We had a student that entered a passcode incorrectly and disabled the iPad. However, this iPad was set-up through wi-fi and was not synched to a computer. How do we re=enable the iPad?

You will still need to connect it to a computer's iTunes - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode in order to reset/unlock it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

  • I lost all my contacts after my friend( who normally syncs/updates from my computer) updated her phone on a different computer.

My friend and I normally sync and update our iPhones from my computer. I have already updated to the iOS 5. But just the other day she updated her iPhone from a different computer. I did not realize this until I went to text someone and saw that their was only a number and no name in my messages. Then a few minutes later they were all like that. So I checked my address book and noticed I had no contacts, except I had all of my friends contacts.  Some how she deleted all of my contacts. She even deleted them from my back up somehow. I am wonder if this has to do with iCloud. I had my contacts backed up on there. I even tried restoring from back up from a few weeks ago and it did nothing. This is frustrating, and I want to know how to stop this from happening again?

have you not been using your phone as intended?  You should have been synching your contacts with iCloud, Outlook, or Address Book.
Synch your contacts back from one of those applications.

  • How many times can you connect ipad to a different computer?

I have an Ipad 1 and when connecting it to my new laptop (not Mac) it told me the device could only be connected one more time to a different computer. Are there limits on Ipads as to how many computers or times we can connect them to? Is there any way to reset this or not?

When it comes to apps, this is right, unless you use the Windows version of iFunBox (the Mac version, not even the latest version, doesn't work for direct IPA transfer). However, you can transfer / sync music / videos from several computers using third-party tools (without jailbreaking!!) with tools like SyncPod / FreeSync.
You may want to read the section "A side remark: put music / videos / other media on your iDevice without iTunes" at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/ios-contact-management-duplicate-removal-impor texport-etc-tips-and-tricks for more info.

  • How do I use time machine backup to restore onto a different computer

I am trying to troubleshoot the best way to back up my Mac.  I have been a mac user since 20009 and always used a time machine.  The two times I have needed it for backup, my computer did not read the portion the backup was.  You could tell under disk utility the space was used.  Just before the need of backup, it was backing up.  So, I am wondering if I  need to use a different method.  I lost all of my Christmas 2015 movies.  My computer did some weird thing with passwords and it needs some resetting I had to do with the support team on the phone.  The support person could not figure out how to access the back up on time capsule.  I noticed the password resetting made my computer name different by putting a 3 behind the name I assigned it.
One thought that has crossed my mind is can you use the time machine backup and open it up on a completely different computer? If so, I should have been able to someone access my information.  I would like to know the answer and how do it so I know in case this ever happens again and so that I can rely on this expensive back up machine I have purchased two different times on two different computers and never been able to actually use.

Are you running Yosemite.. because it is the cause of loads of problems.
As to opening the TM backup from another computer.. yes you can.
Please read our TM expert Pondini.
    Q14-17 on restore here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Particularly as you will see Q17 and it will reference the prior info you need.
I have gone through this with several people.. and I have a post showing a manual file location and restore.
Can't access old files on time capsule
But not from Yosemite.. it has its own bunch of bugs.. as mentioned. Good luck with those.
I also strongly recommend people use a secondary backup method.. there are excellent third party.. I use Carbon Copy Cloner.. it is reasonable price.. $40 based on standard rsync.. and will create either bootable clones to a local drive or sparsebundle on a time capsule etc.
The bootable clone is the ideal way to recover files. since it is based on a simple computer reboot and then access of files that are in exactly the same place as you left them.. TM backs up in a most complicated manner.
See how tm works here. The top couple of articles and how it is different to clones. As Pondini suggests.. using both is no bad thing.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html
This is also useful for yosemite.. it is not working as TM used to.
    Find files in Yosemite.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6681850?searchText=time%20machine%20yosemit e#27139370
While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
I am not sure why your previous use of TM failed.. In the midst of all its problems it does still work ok.. as mostly people can recover stuff they do.. albeit it needs a lot more messing than is typical Apple.

  • Backing up iPhone to different computer

Right now, I backup my iPhone and my wife's iPhone to her Lenovo netbook.
We don't have any music, videos, etc. purchased through iTunes.
The only thing we have is about 10 ringtones that I made.
Is it possible to start backing up our iPhones to a different computer without any repercussions?
Abviously I will need to transfer the ringtones I made to the new computer, but other than that, is there anything that wouldn't allow something like this to be done?
Is there anything that needs to be done as far as "disassociating" the iPhone's from the old computer?

    anyone?

  • Ive had tunes downloaded on my PC for over 4 years. Currently when I login to my iTunes account it only lists 1 song on my playboard. I should have over 1000. When I log in on a different computer I can see the complete song list. Any ideas what to do?

Ive had iTunes downloaded on my laptop for over 4 years. Currently when I log in to my account there is only 1 song listed on my song board, when I should have over 1000. When I login to my itunes account on a different computer, or my kids login on there ipods and ipads, my songs are listed and available. I have unistalled and re-installed all the apple software as described on the Apple help page, but the same thing is happening when I reistalled.. • With this new itunes I see you can download old song from other p.cs if they are listed in your itunes with a could next to them. How do I make it so I see the songs on my new itunes on a different computer?

When I first downloaded itunes 11 I saw all my old song that are on another computer listed in my itunes list on my laptop with a little cloud with an arrow in it next to the songs from my old itunes. When I updated to 11.1 the cloud icon stayed in the top part of the itunes list where you can click name, artist, all that to organize you itunes list but the songs from my old account were gone. I can't remember how, but some how I tuned the songs back on, if you will and all my old songs repaired with the clouds next to them. Well my boyfriend has the cloud smiple in his organize list thing, but no songs from his old itunes list of a different computer like me and he wants those songs back. I have been trying for hours to re-watch the itunes and icloud tutorials but because of my slow wi-fi I can't get the videos to load and they keep freezing my itunes so I can't even shut it down without restarting my laptop, so I need some help on remebering how to make the old songs show up in his itunes. Can anyone please help? By the way we both have Windows 7.

If you go to settings>music there should be a setting to show all music. Turn that off, and the cloud purchases should disappear. You may need to restart the phone to take efect

  • How to save Final Cut Pro project to an ftp server to then open on a different computer

Hello, I work for a graphic design firm that also does video production for businesses. We are using Final Cut Pro X in our office which has an FTP server connected to all office computers.
What we want is to be able to have on employee start a project in Final Cut Pro X, save it to the server; then have another employee open up the same project and continue working from a different computer.
Right now, we have a lot of our Final Cut files saved to the server, and the files will show up in the server on the other employee's machine. BUT, we scroll in the server to the file for the Final Cut Pro project on the other computer, and the file is grayed out, unable to be opened on the new computer.
I've tried right clicking and choosing "open with Final Cut" and Final Cut does then open, but right before it opens the project within Final Cut, a message comes up saying "The document could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro," which of course, I see no way to do that from within Final Cut Pro.
I've also called Apple Care, they reminded me that we can't have one project open on two computers at the same time, and that's fine. We are willing to close the project on computer one to then open on computer two.
If you have an answer let me know. We don't want to have to load onto an external hard drive to then load onto the other machine, especially since we have a server ready to go.
    Thanks for your help.

You can share projects via the ftp server, but you need to:
    1) Have all the media in identical events on each editor's machine;
    2) Set up the project  and share the entire folder for that project first;
    3) Afterwards, you can share just the project file itself
You CANNOT work directly on projects and events stored in the ftp server.
See Steve Martin explain how to do all this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-ga7fxKh8
