Synching 2 iphones to 1 computer?

Two part question:
1. Can two iPhones be synched to one computer via iTunes, with the contacts/events/etc. added in one iPhone showing up in the other after both are synched?
2. If the above is yes, can one of the iPhones be running 1.1.1 and the other 1.0.2? Has anyone tried this and found that there is no data loss or corruption with two different software versions?

1. Can two iPhones be synched to one computer via iTunes, with the contacts/events/etc. added in one iPhone showing up in the other after both are synched?
Yes. If both iPhones are synced with iTunes under the same OS X user/login account, each iPhone will be synced with the same Address Book contacts, iCal Calendar events, Safari bookmarks, iPhoto photos and selected iTunes music and video.
This can be customized as needed with each iPhone with select Address Book Groups, iCal calendars, iPhoto albums and iTunes music/playlists and video.
iTunes includes a preference setting to not automatically sync when any iPhone is attached.
2. If the above is yes, can one of the iPhones be running 1.1.1 and the other 1.0.2? Has anyone tried this and found that there is no data loss or corruption with two different software versions?
Someone else will need to answer this question.

  • HT1386 Synching multiple iPhones on one computer

How do I synch multiple iphones on one computer. Last time I tried, I wiped out the contacts on one of the phones, so I want to be sure not to do this again. I don't want to wipe out any data on either of the phones (contacts, music, etc). I also am not sure what iphone I have, I've looked in settings and can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

I understand that. What is the purpose of synching then?  Maybe I should have said I want to share music between the devices, but that is all. And I don't want to wipe out any of the music on one of the phones, which is what happened last time I tried to synch.

  • When I turned on iCloud backup now when I synch to iTunes it asks if I want to set up as new phone or restore from backup. Why?  I have been synching this iPhone to this computer fine since I got my iPhone 4S.

  • When I synch my iPhone to new computer, will it erase data from my apps?

Hi everyone. I recorded number of interviews using Voice Memos o iPhone. I want to transfer them to my Macbook but my iPhone is sync-ed with my old computer. To synchronize it with the new one, it says it will erase data from iPhone and replace it with the current iTunes library. My question is - will only iTunes data be earsed or everything on iPhone? In other words, is my data in Voice Memos safe if I go ahead with synch? I am backing-up iPhone to iCloud. I really need to transfer these interviews to my Mac, and have been trying to find an answer for a while...

im going through the same problem here please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 2 and my desktop computer is a W7 machine and I run Outlook 2007. When I synch the iPhone and the computer using a USB and iTunes new calandar and contact entries on the iPhone are not written to Outlook.

The problem seems to have started since I enabled iCloud and the two Apple devices keep beautifully in synch. I've probably just got some setting wrong but I'm a bit lost and would appreciate some help.
If I put a "new" calandar event in Outlook and then synch this does show up on the Apple devices so the problem is just one way ... if I add something on one of the Apple devices I don't get it to show-up in Outlook.
Many, many thanks for any help from London.

Thank you for being patient with a "beginner" :-) I have now realized that I had no understanding of how iCloud would affect things.
Calendar: On the iPhone I have set the default calendar to "From my PC" and now things are working ok. I have done the same on the iPad and this is also working ok. I accept that to keep things in sync I have to connect (by USB) to the PC but this is ok.
Contacts: I was about to make the equivalent changes regarding Contacts and have done so on the iPhone only to find that there is no "From my PC" on the iPad.
Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.
Would I be better off just getting rid of iCloud and going back to USB sync every now and then. This used to be fine for me. Perhaps I have been making things difficult by mixing iCloud with a non-iCloud device (the W7 PC).
Anyway, once again, many thanks for your patience.

  • I need to synch mt iphone to a new computer

how do i un-synch my iphone from one computer and re-synch it? please!! lol

Install the latest iTunes program version on the intended new computer.
In iTunes you can go into the 'Store' tab in the top menu bar (Mac OS X) and choose 'Authorize This Computer' for the new computer and likewise 'Deauthorize This Computer' for the old computer. However unless I'm mistaken, you can authorize up to 5 computers with one iTunes account therefore more than one is allowed.
    Important:
I would do a final iPhone Backup & Sync first. Then disconnect iPhone
Then wherever the iTunes Media folder is kept (which for Mac is the folder called iTunes within the Home User folder>Music folder> 'iTunes', copy this same folder to the new computer within the same location (if Mac), replacing any standard iTunes media folder which is created for first time use. By doing this you will be keeping all your iTunes media, songs, Apps, etc.
Run iTunes on the new computer and Authorize (as mentioned above from the Store menu tab) with your account details. Exit iTunes.
Now, not a lot of people would mention this, go into the following folder on the old computer:
Home User folder>Library>Application Support>MobileSync and then copy the folder named 'Backup' within to the exact same location on the new computer (for Mac computers). By doing this you are copying your iPhone's own backup data over to the new computer. The iPhone's backup data contains all data on your iPhone including things like all your Text message, App's user data i.e. App game saves and progression, etc.
Now run iTunes on the new computer and check to see all of your Music, Apps, etc. are all present and ok.
Connect your iPhone and try syncing but don't backup iPhone just yet and uncheck to stop iPhone automatically backing-up. You don't want to overwrite the iPhone backup that you've copied over from the old computer which is now sitting in the appropriate folder in the new computer, just in case there's problems and you need it clean. If your sync worked fine just like on the old computer with all the current info intact on the iPhone and in iTunes, then your all good to go. If the data on the iphone has changed, i.e. it has sync'd the music, apps, etc. but have lots App data and text messages and other settings; then perform an iPhone restore when connecting to iTunes and use the last backup (date and time) that you made from the old computer.
If there are problems then you still have iTunes and it's Media files kept for now on the old computer to resort to, until you succeed.
If all above went well, then you can Deauthorize iTunes on the old computer and your good to go. Try and keep separate backups of your iTunes media folder & iPhone Backup folder.
Hope that helps, but please do get a second opinion in case I have got anything wrong and/or at least keep backups of those folders I mentioned.

  • HT1420 I am trying to sync my iPhone to my computer with a new Apple ID that Ive just created because the original account has been applied on too many computers. iTunes is not allowing me to transfer my purchases with my new account. Help!!

I am trying to synch my iPhone with my computer, and new Apple ID. My iPhone is synced with another computer, but i have changed the Apple ID on my phone and authorized it on my computer. However, i can not transfer my purchases on to my new account. I have updated my phone, authorized the account on both my phone and my computer. And i do not wish to wipe my phone clean, because there is but one song on this new account. How do i transfer the music on my new account?

All content bought/downloaded from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it and it can't be transferred to a different account - so you will need to authorise your old account on that computer if you want to transfer its purchases over.

  • De-authorizing itunes? Several of my authorized pc's have died, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

Several of my authorized pc laptops and desktops have completely died over the years, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

Deauthorise all to reset to zero, then authorize again.
    Following quote from Apple Support:
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

  • I am trying to retrieve music that I had from an iPad to my iTunes account. I'm using the same computer for synching my iPhone.  I'm logged into my iPad account, but can't retrieve music. It only recognizes my iPhone.

I am trying to retrieve music that I had from an iPad to my iTunes account. I'm using the same computer for synching my iPhone.  I'm logged into my iPad account, but can't retrieve music. It only recognizes my iPhone.  Does anyone know how I can get my music?  I know longer own the iPad so I don't have access to it, but I don't think that should be a problem.

So you had music on the iPad that is not in iTunes and you no longer have the iPad. Is that what you are saying? If that is what you are saying, iTunes won't "recognize" anything that was on the iPad, that was not purchased from iTunes. If the music was purchased from iTunes, you should probably be able to download it again for free as long as you are using the same Apple ID that you bought it with. Did you try downloading the music again?
Am I understanding what it is that you want to do? If I am understanding you correctly, you will find this to be useful.

I admit that I'm a little confused by your remark about being logged into your iPad account. You should be logged into your iTunes account.

  • HT4972 I replaced the computer I originally used to synch my iPhone. I get the message stating that my content will be erased, even though this is the computer I now synch with. Is there a way to make the update recognize the new computer?

I replaced the computer I originally used to synch my iPhone. When trying to update to iOS5.0, I get the message stating that my content will be erased, even though this is the computer I now synch my phone with. Is there a way to make the update recognize the new computer so that my content will be kept?

The best option is to copy your entire iTunes folder from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  This will allow iTunes on your new computer to recognize and sync with your phone without deleting content.  You will also need to copy over any other synced data not in your iTunes library such as photos synced to your phone, calendars and contacts.
If you can't do this, these articles will help you start syncing with your new computer with minimal or no data loss:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

  • The calendar week view on my iphone 4s starts on a Sunday.  I am synching with outlook on my computer which starts the week view on a Monday which I prefer.  How do I change my iphone calendar view to start the week on a Monday?

The calendar week view on my iphone 4s starts on a Sunday.  I am synching with outlook on my computer (pc)  which starts the week view on a Monday which I prefer.  How do I change my iphone calendar view to start the week on a Monday?  I am in Australia.
I have just noticed the other discussion points - mine is set to Australia.
Dear Apple - as the day that the week starts on can depend on country and religion - how about making it an option that the user can change????

I believe the week view on the iPhone is handled by the Region settings in the phone. I am not aware of any other manner to change it, as you can with Outlook.

  • Is there a way to synch an iphone to a new computer without losing contacts, music, and apps?  New HD on my macbook, never been synched with any other devices.  Thanks

Is there a way to sync an iphone to a computer that has a new hard drive without losing all the songs, apps, contacts, etc?  The computer has iTunes downloaded, but no device has ever been synched to it.  Sorry if this has been posted before, but if anyone could point me to the steps that I need to take it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your quick response...we don't have a copy of the old computer...Hard drive died one morning, I now have learned the hard way that what we did was really dumb, and am backing everything up  .  We were told that if we synched it with a computer that didn't have a library yet it would be ok?
The procedures that I have been able to get online:
    1. Go to Itunes library without phone connected
    2. disable automatic synching for iphone
    3. Connect iphone, back up
    4. then synch
    What do you think?

  • I have been purchasing songs on itunes for a year. I just got a new computer and I synched my iphone to it. I had over 100 songs, now I have only 10. Where did my music go and how can I get it back?

I have been purchasing songs from itunes for the past year. I have over 100 songs. I recently got a new computer and I synched the iphone to it. I can't find 90% of my music. Where is it and how can I get it back? I checked itunes under purchased and it only shows 13 songs. Please help.

You can only sync with one computer. When you synced to the new computer it would have erased it and synced what was on the new computer.
You always need to have a backup, an iPhone is not a storage device.
When you get a new computer you need to transfer your library before syncing
If you don't have a backup you may be out of luck
The only thing would be if you're in the US and have access to the iCloud beta to reload purchases
