Synching 2 iphones to same itunes

we have always had 2 iphones with sep profiles and a single iTunes account on 1 computer.
Every time we connect a phone to the computer we get the message that the device is synched with a different iTunes library and the option is either to erase the current iPhone or cancel.  Not a good option for us.  Therefore, never did synching.  Anyway around this?

Creating a second user on your computer is the easiest way. But you'll have to make sure that autosync is disabled in iTunes before you connect for the first time. Then transfer your purchases, back up manually, and restore from the manual backup again. Make sure to have at least one contact and event listed on your computer, syncing to an empty address book will erase your contacts on the phone.
This is also covered in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there to copy other media, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How to update software on multiple iPhones using same iTunes account?

How to update software on multiple iPhones using same iTunes account?

    SeanB15 wrote:
Here are more details on my situation which should help clarify things...
I purchased three iPhone 4 models back when they first came out (for my family) that all share the same iTunes account for access to apps and music, but each phone/user still has his/her custom contact list, email accts, and select lists of apps and music from the one iTunes acct library.  The problem is (as I understand it) that I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct without wiping out the separate contact lists, etc. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates and still be able to manage separate contact lists, etc. If I go this route, I assume we will lose all the apps on phones #2 and #3 that we have been "sharing"... correct? Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. Hopefully, one of you can help me??
we have 2 iphone 4's synced to the same itunes account for apps and music since the day we bought them, but each has a different icloud acct. they have both been updated on the same itunes account with every update that has come out since we bought them in december of 2010. nothing on either phone has ever been lost or duplicated. having said all that, maybe i'm missing something here, but we have had no problems. we do have itunes setup to sync manually. i do believe i'm a piker compared to lawrence finch, but i'm just telling you what happens in my house. maybe check with apple? is there a store near you?

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Is there an option of synching Iphone with two itunes on different mac books ?

is there an option of synching Iphone with two itunes on different mac books ?

You can't sync it to two computers.
But you can plug it into a second computer and add things or take things out of apps (under the app tab, scroll down).
Also you can take photos off on a second computer.
There are a few things you can do on a second computer.
    But not a sync.

  • IPod touch + iPhone on same iTunes account?

Just curious if I can have an iPod and an iPhone under the same iTunes account? We've had an iphone for a few months now, and just recently got the iTouch, but the apps I downloaded to the iTouch (via wifi) were taken off the iTouch when I synced up last night.

Yes, you can. But you can't sync either an iPod touch or an iPhone to more that one computer, so if you were synching either with a different computer, anything on the iPod/iPhone will be erased if you sync to another computer that doesn't have the same content. So make sure everything you want in your iPod touch and iPhone are in the copy of iTunes to which you wish to sync. If you buy something directly on the iPod or iPhone, don't let it sync until you use the "transfer purchases from iPod" command under the iTunes File menu to get those apps into iTunes.
If you've lost any apps, you can download them again without extra charge. I'd suggest using iTunes so you don't have to use the extra "transfer" step. Just go through the purchase process and eventually it will tell you that you've purchased the app already and can download a zero cost.

  • Synching iPhone to two iTunes accounts

I have two iTunes accounts. One contains all my music for my iPod and is on our home computer. The other is on my company laptop. I have synced my iPhone 4 to the account on the laptop (so it syncs my Outlook info for business). I want to move the music from the iTunes account on my home computer into my iPhone. But if I try to manually move the music to my iPhone, it tells me that the phone can be synched to only one iTunes library and asks if I want to erase the iPhone and synch with this (my home computer's) iTunes library. How can I get the music from the one iTunes account either into my iPhone or into the other iTunes account? If I elect to "erase this iPhone" and synch with the iTunes library on my home computer, what exactly is erased from the iPhone? Just whatever music I might have in the phone (I have none)? Or does it erase everything in the phone (i.e. apps, etc.). Thanks so much to anybody who can help.

"Copy to an external hard drive?"
Yes, or dvd,cd, flash drive, etc. Where is your backup copy of your computer? It should have everything on it. You can use it to move everything.
"Second: Could I sync my iPhone to one computer just for music and to the other computer for other purposes (apps, Outlook calendar, etc.)? "
    Hope it helps.
You can sync itunes content ( music/apps/vids/etc) with one computer and you can sync contacts/calendars to a different computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble synching iphone 3 with itunes

Hey, I just got a new macbook pro a few weeks ago and I've just tried to synch my iphone up with itunes like i did with my old laptop but itunes dosn't seem to pick up the device. Just wondering what I can do to try and fix it?
    Thanks

Do you have a backup of your iPhone on your old laptop? If you have or in case you dont need your data and settings on your iPhone so much you can try to reset all the data from your iPhone. Everytime I faced problems like that I've done so and my mac had no problems finding the freshly restored iPhone.

  • Is it possible synchronize 2 Iphone whith same Itunes account

    Hello,
Is it possible, without losing data, to synchronize a 3GS Iphone and a first generation Iphone from the same iTunes account. The 2 Iphone version are 3!
    Thank you in advance

Yes, you can sync as many as you like.
They are different devices and can be set up however you like.

  • SYNC 2ND IPHONE TO SAME ITUNE ACCOUNT

My husband and I both now have Iphones. He currently has an Itune account on our laptop. I would like to sync my new iphone to the same account on the same laptop. When I plug mine in am I going to uninstall his??

No, there is no install/uninstall with an iPhone.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When syncing iTunes content and transferring photos with another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
You can sync multiple iPhones and/or iPods with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on a single computer. There is no limit for the number of iPhones and/or iPods that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on a single computer.

  • Confused about syncing both an ipad and iphone to same itunes?

i own an iphone 4 and have tons of apps and music on it, i just got an ipad, do i sync it with the same itunes? i dont want all those apps on the ipad b ut the music and photos i do?

There is no device limit for the number of iPods, iPhones, and iPads that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer.
Each device can have its own sync preferences with iTunes, and iTunes will create and maintain a separate backup for each device.

  • SYNCING RINGTONES ON TWO IPHONES ON SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ?

i have been trying for ages me an the missus both have the iphone 3gs ios 4 operating system i have all the ringtones on my phone but when i go to transfer to her phone either one or none appear......
i have home sharing on.........as we all use the same account for our ipod touches an iphones even the shuffles....
but i CANNOT get itunes to or her phone for that matter to recognise that they are on the same account and all i want to do is share them with her..............
    any help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
    i need you

Yes. She can just download it from her iPhone as if she were purchasing new and the iTunes Store will notify her that the app has already been purchased and allow her to download it again. If by "same iTunes account", you mean the same iTunes Store account, there shouldn't be any problems. Otherwise she'll have to sign into the iTunes Store using the account under which the app was purchased.
Alternatively, she can copy the app from your iTunes library to hers (if hers is separate) and sync from the computer.
    Regards.

  • Syncing an Ipad along with 2 iphones to same Itunes library

I thought apps, etc. were synced and backed up per device but the last time I synced my phone, itunes was trying to put all of my wife's IPad apps on my phone. is there a setting somewhere to control this? do you have to being very manual with the syncing process?
we used to have a separate desktop profile on our computer that my wife used to sync her iphone and then I had one as well. now we run from the same library.

I believe the default setting is for iTunes to sync all apps in the library. With your wife's iPhone connected go to the apps tab of the iPhone screen and deselect sync all at the top, then you can go down the list and check only apps you want on that iPhone. Same deal for all your iDevices.

  • Three iphone on same itunes

I have all my iphones and ipads on the same itunes account.
I just gave my son my old iphone and restored to new but all my info is still on it. Does it needs its own itunes account?

    1. Set up contacts on PC as desired,(backup contacts just in case you'll have to try again)  go to iTunes info pane, select to delete contacts once on your phone und sync.
    2. Make sure you have all desired apps in iTunes. Deselect all your duplicate programs on your phone and sync. Your programs will be removed from your phone, but not in iTunes. After that select the apps you want to have on your phone and sync again. iTunes remembers your purchases, so you can download them again without paying a second time
3.Did you activate your account on the new computer in iTunes? Did you transfer your purchases from your phone to your new computer?

  • Can 2 iPhones be synched with the same iTunes and Account

My husband and I both have iPhone 3G's. We just upgraded to the iPhone 4's which are set to be delivered today. We both download app's to our phones using my iTunes account. I have mine synched to my PowerBook and back up regularly. He has never synched his computer with anything, back it up or upgraded to the latest software. Can I synch his to my Powerbook to back it up so that I can do the transfer? Or will it erase all of my information?
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks all!

    It'll blat your information.
The iTunes/iPhone model is single user, so if you have many devices, they all share the one set of info.
There is a way - if you set up a separate user account on the Powerbook for your husband, he can have his own iTunes/iPhone setup, which will take care of his contacts etc. (One important point - when his PB account is set up and *before syncing his iPhone*, create a single contact and a single appointment on eth Mac's Address Book and iCal in his account. That forces iTunes to synhronise, instead of deleting all his phone data, which is sub-optimal)
If you want to share the iTunes media (music etc), you can move the iTunes library to a shared folder (one that both his and your account can see)
As an alternative, you could set up a MobileMe account for him, and sync to the cloud - that would avoid setting him up as an account user on your PB.
He really should back up his stuff. iPhones are great, but they're not indestructible
