Synching address book across two computers

Why aren't the changes on my second computer showing up when I sync our main laptop to .mac and then tell the second computer to update itself from .mac? I make a lot of changes in address book and want the computers to "match"

Hi
There are several third-party solutions. When I was without .Mac I used Address-O-Sync. You can find others on versiontracker.

  • Best method to synch addy book from two computers not networked together?

I have two Macs, un-networked, and two diff. operating systems. 10.2.8 and 10.3.9. What is the best way to synch em' up on a regular basis? Thanks.

first let me say i dont know if there are any compatability issues with address book in 10.2 and 10.3. I suspect there may be. If not…
get a .mac account - which of course costs
You could alternatively buy some syncing software ( unfortunately there doesnt seem to be any freeware syncing options) and use sometype of transfer medium (usb thumb drive?)

  • Problems sharing across two computers on home lan

I must be doing something basic wrong. The instructions for sharing a downloaded digital edtion sound very easy in the help manual but following those directions I am not able to share a book across two computers on my home lan.
Both computers have been authorized by my user id. When I open the menu item on Library menu/Authorize computer
I'm told the computer is authorized and my UID is shown. However when I attempt to `add' the book I get a message saying:
    > This document cannot be opened on this machine.
    > Please contact the site where you obtained the document
    > to download another copy.
I just bought the book today not more than 2 hrs ago
The `knowledgbase' help for digital editions is completely useless and returns no hits regardless of what I type in the search field.
What else do I need to do to share a book across two home computers?

    Harry
You shouldn't need anything else. The common problems (after you have gotten past the authorization) for sharing are:
    - You copy over the .etd file instead of the .pdf file.
    - You copy over the .pdf file from /Digital Editions/ebx_backup instead of /Digital Editions. (My best guess, given the error message).
    - The file was purchased with only rights to view it on a single machine.
The not so common and more worrisome case would be if the License was not being correctly written into the file after you purchase it.
I would suggest that after verifying you are copying the correct file, you should open up a web support case, so that Bentley can track this, and help us gather all the correct information so we can figure out what is going on.
    Sorry you're having problems

  • Sync address book with two different google accounts

Im trying to sync my address book with two separate google accounts. I understand how this works normally through mail preferences and have it working with my personal email account but my university's emails are through gmail as well and i wanted to sync the same address book with me other gmail account. Please help, any info is much appreciated!

I've only found workarounds for this. It amazes me this isn't available, but I've seen a lot of chatter about this throughout the web. The best temporary solution is synching your iPhone with Google as an exchange server and then synchronizing that with your computer through iTunes. Assuming you have an iPhone.

  • Two address books and two iclouds on the same computer?

is there any way to have two seperate address books and two iclouds on one computer and/or one ipad2?  i have the icloud synched for the macbook pro, ipad and my iphone 4s, but curious if my wife can have icloud and have seperate calendars and contacts.  i don't want her to get my contacts and calendar synched to her iphone 4s.  thoughts/suggestions anyone?  appreciate it!

  • Is it possible to Have a Catalog sync across Two computers over the internet?

Is it possible to Have a Elements 12 Catalog sync across Two computers over the internet?  I have a laptop I use in the Field when I take pictures and a Desktop at my house that I use to Edit the Photos.  I would like the Catalog Synced across both computers.  IE I download pictures from the Camera onto the laptop and they automatically sync over to the desktop then when I edit the pictures on the Desktop they go back to the laptop.
    Is this possible?
What would I need to have it work?

You could put the pictures in the field on your laptop
Send them to Dropbox from your laptop
At home, when you are on the desktop, access the pictures from Dropbox and put them in a folder of choice
Enhance the pictures in PSE, then send them to a destination folder, to preclude overwriting the orginals
Populate the organizer from the destination folder
This requires that you install Dropbox (free, with quite a bit of storage) on both machines. I have the app on my ipad as well, and it synchs perfectly (no catalog, however).
One advantage to this type of work-flow would be that you can get rid of the non-keepers and save the pictures that you fixed at home, prior to any organizer machinations. The old axiom: It's a virtue to be selective.

  • Technical question:  Is it possible to work on the same Lightroom catalog across two computers and have the catalog sync? If so, how??

    Technical question:
Is it possible to work on the same Lightroom catalog across two computers and have the catalog sync? If so, how??
Here's a little more information on what I am trying to do.
I have a desktop computer with 4tb worth of pictures that has Lightroom and Photoshop on it. I also have a laptop with Photoshop and Lightroom. I would like to be able to edit those same pictures with their current edits that are currently on my desktop on my laptop. If this can be done, I'm sure I need to be on the same wifi network for my laptop to be able to access my desktop's photo library. I am technically savvy enough to map a network drive, but how do I get my two Lightroom catalogs to sync when I make a change on one of my computers? Would i be working only on one catalog? Or two separate catalogs that would need to be manually synced to the other computer? Would it be beneficial to put my lightroom catalog on something like dropbox?
I'd appreciate any information or tutorials if someone knows how to do this.

I do this by having my LR catalog and photos on an external drive that I swap between the two computers.  I am on Windows and have the same drive letter assigned to the drive on both computers.
Because the photos are on a portable drive I back up the portable drive to another hard-drive every night or after important work, because portable drives are susceptible to damage or loss.

  • How to synch address book?

    how to synch address book?

Fixed this.  I made each server individually searchable by my Galaxy.  Now I have three accounts that I can combine and scan as one or examine each individually.  Very simple.  Wish the Galaxy came with a real guidebook, not the flimsy piece of nothing that Sprint gives out.  Live and learn.

  • Synchronize Mail Across Two Computers

    Hey everyone!
I have two iMacs running 10.5.7 with Apple Mail set to download email from my own domain with a POP server. I have a gigabytes of locally stored mail that I would like to have synchronized to another, iMac also running 10.5.7. I don't have the option of IMAP, but even if I did, the gigabytes of saved mail would go over my quota.
I tried using Live Mesh, but it does not support files in the /library directories, and MobileMe does not support IMAP/POP accounts.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

there is no good way to keep POP mail synced across two computers. one time syncing is possible by exporting a mail archive and moving it to another computer but it's not something you want to do on a regular basis. the best i can suggest is to check the option in mail preferences->accounts->advanced to keep messages on the server after retrieval. this way you can download them to both computers.

  • Synching I touch with two computers

I would like to know if it is possible to synch an itouch with two computers, without losing the music that is on the itouch. FYI: First computeris no longer operational due to a virus...

You can sync with only one computer.  However, you can manage music with multiple computers.  See:

  • How can I synch my address books on two macs and also my Google contacts?

I have signed up for iCloud on my two macs, and I understand that their address books will be kept in sync.  But will the sync with Google that I have set up in Addressbook.app continue to work?

Selected under the Info tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes.
With such a question, you should spend some time with the user guide.

  • Synching Address Book with Apple Mail contacts

I have recently cleaned out and reorganized Address Book. I deleted dead people, replaced old email addresses, phone numbers etc. But the contact list that comes up when I click the Address icon after New Message is clicked is not the same email list as Address Book (though its icon is).
How can I synch the two? There is no pull-down "synch with Address Book" command.
    Grateful for any help

I looked and found Previous Recipients under Window (never noticed it before). But that is manually repeating what I have just done with Address Book. That took two days. I'm looking for a way to sync the two with one click

  • Merging Files (Accounts?) Across Two Computers

For the past 6ish years, my mom has used both an iMac G4 and iBook G4. Both are running 10.4.11. She has accounts on both computers with similar folder structures (i.e. Documents folder is organized the same way). However, although many the files within her folders are similar, some vary (i.e. The laptop might have a newer version of one file and another file might exist on the iMac but not the iBook). She is trying to collapse these two similar accounts down to just one account on the iBook.
Simply put, what is the best way to merge the two accounts onto the iBook so that the newest files are preserved but files are not deleted if they don't exist on the iMac?
I was thinking about trying to use migration assistant (but I don't have any experience with it and don't know if it can accomplish this). I am also wondering if it would work to use some sort of backup software to "backup" the iMac onto the iBook account but I'm afraid I'd run into problems with permissions.
Bonus question: Is there a way to merge the iPhoto libraries? I imagine this needs to be done separately from the general merge - she is just worried about losing photos and the computers have different pictures in their iPhoto libraries.

Hi Jake, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I was thinking about trying to use migration assistant (but I don't have any experience with it and don't know if it can accomplish this).
MA will copy everything, but to a new Account if the name is the same.
Is there a way to merge the iPhoto libraries?
For that one I'd use Import on one from iPhoto's File Menu.
For Mail I'd also use Imprt.
For Address Book, Select all or the ones not on the other one, Eport/Save as vCard, Import that vCard on the other one.
However, although many the files within her folders are similar, some vary (i.e. The laptop might have a newer version of one file and another file might exist on the iMac but not the iBook).
    I use Tri-Backup...
    http://www.tri-edre.com/english/index.html
Which has Synchronization as one of it's many options for just such a purpose, it can do it both ways or one way or the other way.

  • How do I share iCal Address book between two iPhones?

    I have 2 iPhone 4S and currently 1 iCloud & iTunes accts.
What I want to be able to do is share the address book, notes, iCal, reminders between the two phones so if i enter a phone #, email &/or event it is visible on both phones, imac @ home & on icloud.
Do I need an 2nd iCloud acct for her?
Also for apps, music, etc would I have to purchase twice for each phone?

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?
