Synching audio from GarageBand to video in iMovie

I'm a musician, and I'm recording a song in GarageBand. I'd like to make a simple music video of me singing with guitar, but that requires that I be able to synch the audio I've recorded along with the video. In other words, I want the words in the song to come out of my mouth at the same time. Anyone?

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
* DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
* Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
* Cinematize >60$
* Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
* Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
* connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

    Hi Life93,
    What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • Audio from Flash CS3 Video overlapping

    audio from Flash CS3 Video overlapping
    help stopping the FLVPlayback instance (which has an instance
    name of theVideo) when another button is clicked!
    How do I stop flv playback when user clicks a navigation
    button ...
    Excuse me in advance for asking about a topic that may be
    very popular!
    I'm using the attached code to go from the main stage to one
    subset of .swf files (loaded movies) and I apparently have no
    problems with overlapping. Hell, the files even seem to unload
    themselves correctly. Then, when I go to my second subset of .swf
    files (with the exact same AS3 structure), which has a Flash Video
    file (made by the FLV Playback component), I get into an
    overlapping problem associated with the audio.
    How can I stop, cancel, or unload the audio when the file is
    clicked away from (the user selects another button on the main
    stage)?
    Code attached. Please let me know if anything else is needed.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Jntspecialty

    I have tried to clean up code and do this right.
    I need help referencing (storing the value in the variable
    "stopsoundoverlapReq") the "flvplayback instance AFTER theVideo is
    instantiated (ie, the frame that contains theVideo has rendered)"
    correctly.
    Also, now I need help with the name of my nav bar button's
    method followed by parentheses, which should include the
    appropriate method parameter.
    On my main timeline, I tried to clean up the code and use:
    var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =
    stop("videopage.swf/MovieClip(ldr.content).theVideo");
    Then for my nav bar button on this same timeline use:
    any_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, stopsoundoverlap);
    function stopsoundoverlap(event:MouseEvent):void
    stopsoundoverlap.stop(stopsoundoverlapReq);
    The 3 errors I get now are :
    1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant:
    FLVPlayback. var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =
    stop("videopage.swf/MovieClip(ldr.content).theVideo");
    1061: Call to a possibly undefined method stop through a
    reference with static type Function.
    stopsoundoverlap.stop(stopsoundoverlapReq);

    var stopsoundoverlapReq:FLVPlayback =
    stop("videopage.swf/MovieClip(ldr.content).theVideo");

    I Want To Transmit Audio from Mic and Video from WebCam on Another Computer. I have used AVTransmit2.java file and AVReceive2.java file for Transmission and Receiving but They Transmit Only Video On Another Computer on a network without any error. Any One Help me How Can i Transmit both Audio & Video at the Same time ????????
    i m using This Command for Transmittion
    java AVTransmit2 vfw://0 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2 10000
    and this Command For Receiving
    java AVReceive2 192.168.0.1/10000 192.168.0.2/ 10002

    Excuse me foro my bad English but I speak English like Tarzan.
    To trasmit both video and audio I created a MergingDataSource wich incorporates video and audio data sources. Then I created a Processor with this DataSource and a RTPManager for each track of the processor. It works.

  • How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

    How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

    Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
    Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
    If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
    You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
    Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file.

  • How do you convert the audio from a mpeg4 video file to mp3?

    How do you convert the audio from a mpeg4 video file to mp3 format?

    Probably the easiest way to do this is to download a free media convertor. Most will be able to convert video into audio files.

  • How to I synchronize video from Imovie and audio from garageband?

    I recorded the audio in Garageband and the video thru my video camera. I then captured the video in Imovie and attached the audio to the project from garageband. I can't seem to be able to synchronize both.I clicked on the green area and clicked "trim" and when the waveform appeared, I moved the handle back and forth, but video and audio never synced. I also went to my project and tried to pull the video or the audio back and forth, but it also never synced.
    What are the steps to take to achieve this?

    If you want the video and audio to automatically sync, Final Cut Pro X is the tool of choice, but it is more expensive than iMovie, and it has a big learning curve.
    With iMovie, you can still do this by showing the wave forms and lining them up visually. There is a nuance that in iMovie, you must have video. You cannot have sound that exists outside a video element. For you, this means that if your GB track is the same length or longer than your iMovie video track, you cannot shift it side to side. This is easily fixed by adding some dummy clips before and after your video so there is room to slide the track back and forth. You can find these "Black Background" clips (and others) under the Maps tab.
    I recently had to sync up some audio with video. Here is a post that explains in detail how I did it. It may help. Unfortunately, in my case, I was syncing the audio from 2 cameras. This is easier than syncing video with an audio track, but some of the tricks may still apply.
    If anything still does not make sense, please ask.
    One more thing. When you have an audio track like one created in GB, it is not simple in iMovie to delete a chunk of it and delete the corresponding video at the same time. Once again, this is a task better suited for Final Cut Pro X.  It is possible to export your movie to the Media Browser and then continue editing it in GB, so that may be an option for you.

  • Record Video in iMovie 09 with Audio From Garageband

    Hi guys,
    I'm trying to record a guitar video using iMovie 09 and am having a few problems.
    I plugged my POD X3 into my Mac and opened up Garageband, I imported the backing track into Garageband as I wanted to record myself playing over it. I set the audio in both System Preferences and Garageband preferences to have the audio input and output coming through the POD X3.
    I hit record on iMovie and I got the sound of my guitar perfectly but no backing track! When I tried to import the backing track into iMovie I can't get it to sync up... Anyone have any ideas?

    ???? Why are you hitting record in iMovie?? It has nothing to do with GB!
    I thing what you want to do is: Import the backing track into iMovie and place it in the project as needed.
    To record yourself in iMovie, use Voice Over:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-voiceover
    Otherwise, record yourself as an instrument in GB and export the combined backing track and yourself to a single audio file (i.e. Share to iTunes - uncompressed - and your recording will be available directly from the iMovie media browser). Place the combined file where you need it in the iMovie project. This gives you that advantage of having access the GB amp modeler and stomp boxes.

  • Can you add audio from a movie to an imovie video of still images?

    Does anyone know how I can add a sound clip from a movie to a video created in imovie?

    The easiest way to separate the Video & Audio is to drag the muxed file to the Timeline. The exact position does not matter, but I'd choose a place where you can see the Clip that you will wish the "borrowed" Audio to go with - your "target" Clip. Once on the Timeline, Alt-click the Audio, to unlink it and then drag to an empty Audio Track near your desired target. Alt-click on the remaining Video of your source Clip and delete it.
    Now, you do similar, should your "target" Clip have its own Audio, that you will want replaced. Alt-click on that Audio and delete it. Now, I'd turn off Snap and align the "borrowed" Audio to the "target" Video Clip. Once you have it where you want it, turn Snap back on.
    The secret is the Alt-click to separate the Audio and the Video. Make sure to use this, especially if you want to delete one stream, as they are still linked. They're muxed, after all. I find this keystroke combo easier than using the Link/Unlink.
    Last, if your "borrowed" Audio will fit into the area on the Audio Track, where you deleted the "target" Clip's Audio, you can then just drag your "borrowed" Audio to that Audio Track, or you can leave it where it is. The choice is yours and is just a housekeeping task anyway.
    As I do a lot of Track specific work with the Audio Mixer, it is not uncommon for me to have similar looking Audio on different Tracks. With Audio Mixer, you apply Track Keyframes and Effects to the entire Track and not to the Clip. If one does nothing but Clip Effects and Keyframing, this will not matter.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do I start with audio first and add video to Imovie as the song plays?

    I want to start an Imovie project by adding video from my Isight camera to audio that I have put down first. This way I can sync my video to the audio in real time. When I have audio that will play, I am unable to add the video because the Isight camera will not record when the audio is playing. As well, when I record with my Isight camera the audio does not play.
    Any help to this new user would be helpful.

    Syncing the video to the audio could be tough to do that way, but this might let you do it:
    1. Drag your audio clip to the Finder desktop. iMovie will copy it there. (The entire source file of the audio clip.)
    2. Double-click on the audio file on the desktop to open it in QuickTime Player.
    3. Play the audio in QT Player as you record with your iSight in iMovie.

  • Warning: Audio from iMovie08 projects broken in iMovie 09

    I had 6 active projects when I upgrade. Three of them seem to be fine, but the other three dropped their audio tracks that I added. Of the three good ones, all three use audio tracks that are simply drop-in songs from iTunes -- where I selected the audio via the iMovie08 media browser.
    Of the three with issues, one of them had a custom audio track that I'm not sure I can replicate, so that may just be lost.
    The other two were simply songs I dropped in from iTunes via the iMovie08 media browser. The songs show up in the projects pane, but with a yellow exclamation point. When I click play, the movie plays fine, but with no audio.
    So, in these two projects with broken audio from an iTunes track, I simply deleted the broken link and re-dropped the same song in. Now the audio is back, but after about 20 seconds of playing, the movie gets choppy, and playback starts freezing though the audio keeps rolling. I haven't tried export, so I don't know if this impacts the final product, but it does make it unworkable to review my projects.
    Has anyone else had this issue -- where the audio link breaks and, if you fix it, it seems to mess up the video somehow.
    I put this up here both as a request for help, and a warning to others -- back up your projects before upgrading, check each project carefully for the broken audio issue, and if the audio is broken, don't think that just dragging the audio back in will fix the issue.

    I spent some time on the phone with apple today troubleshooting this issue. my projects would freeze the visual while running the audio. They had me download a short movie from apple.com (any .mov file will work). close all apps including imovie. go into home folder/movies and drag the imovie events and imovie projects folders to the desktop. this essentially erases all the info in imovie. then open imovie and make sure there is no content inside. once confirmed go to file/import/movies and import a .mov file you know is clean (i would suggest a short one to keep from spending a long time). when the movie shows up in your library select a clip and put it in a new project. does it play both audio and video? if yes the problem is with your clips. if no you have faulty software and will need to replace ilife. go back to home folder/movies and drag the imovie folders on the desktop back. it will ask you if you want to replace existing folders. say yes or continue. if the clip you tested earlier played fine you will have to reinstall ilife and rebuild all events you want to work.
    this is a pain but it works. mine is back to normal.

  • Can you extract the audio from a music video?

    Some of my favorite songs were purchased from Itunes as music videos. (Because they are also my favorite videos.) Now I'm trying to figure out how to move those songs to the iPod +without having to buy the songs as just songs!+ It's been very frustrating. "Create iPod or iPhone version" doesn't convert to anything useful for a Shuffle. How do I extract the audio from the video?
    Or do I have to buy the same music over again?

    Hello RoyFeni,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Can you change the music video's *Media Type* to Music from under the Options tab of the *Get Info* window for the track in iTunes?
    I'm not sure if you can, but hey its at least worth a try. It's all I have though.
    Otherwise, this is not possible via iTunes. The only way you would be able to extract the audio is through the help of some third party application. Not sure how simple or complicated the process is.

  • Cp6.. Audio from FLV Slide Video keeps playing

    I have a project with several slides in a row that have flv videos with audio.  I used the multi-slide/sync video.. not event video to install the video on each slide.  Here's the problem:
    Say I'm watching /listening to the video on slide 1, when I use the playbar to advance to slide 2,  the audio thats attached to the video on slide 1 continues to play, and the video on slide 2 also starts.   So, I'm watching the video on slide 2 but hearing the audio from video 1 and video 2.  This does not occur when with mp4 videos.   I am using a standard playbar.  This does not happen in CP5.5 with the same project.  Any Ideas?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your replies.
    Nimmy, Yes, I did have transitions applied.  Changing to “No Transition” did resolve the issue.  This was one of a series of  Captivate 5.0 projects I’m updating.   I just confirmed that the second one in series had the same issue when updated in Captivate 6.  Again,  changing to “No Transitions” resolved the issue.  I also, opened both of these projects in Captivate 5.5 and republished – the transitions work perfectly in Captivate 5.5.
    Vikram, this issue occurred on a Win 7 PC,  the videos are not split across separate slides, as reported above, I can duplicate the issue across several projects now.   I did try different FLV.  I was incorrect in my original post about MP4’s not having the same issue.   The project with the MP4 videos did not use transitions.  When I applied a transition,  the same issue occurred.
    This is one of several Captivate 6 issues that’s causing me to reconsider using it.    It has several new features I’d like to use but its eating up a ton of time, none of which is billable.    I’d suggest that if you can… create/publish any new projects in Captivate 5.5 then open in Captivate 6.  If everything works as expected great.  Otherwise, you have a fallback position in Captivate 5.
